WHAT: It's a birthday party! Amanda is now 18! With Derek throwing in his wizard candy to make things more interesting
WARNINGS: none? Wizard Candy stuff?

It's March 17th and it is the most IMPORTANT first event of the year, at least in Derek's mind. With Amanda turning 18, Derek has tried to create the PERFECTA BIRTHDAY PARTY! Amanda wanted it small and family. So he invited only "family." Foggy (the cousin), Matt (honorary brother), and Tatsuo (also an honorary brother). His apartment is decked out in red streamers, a "HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY!" sign strung across the front of his kitchen. He had red party plates and cups, and red and white streamers everywhere else. He figured it was fine since the ones he had hung above Blaise's cat tree was entertaining for his cat.



A. CAKE AND CELEBRATION

The cake is in the center of the table with a box of 24 birthday candles next to it. It's huge and a bit gaudy, but Derek felt this was the PERFECT CAKE. If anyone is wondering, it's chocolate. There is also plenty of soda and water to drink.

B. PRESENTS

It's time to give the birthday girl her gifts!

C. WIZARD CANDY FUN?

So Derek figured a good way to pass the time was to introduce some of his close friends and family to the contents of a package he got from retrospec. It's wizard candy. If a person looks inside they will see that everything has been opened, meaning, Derek (and Chiyo) have tried everything first and didn't die. The contents are as follows:

*Box of chocolate frogs (8) (magical property- The frogs can move)
*Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans (2 boxes) (The flavors)
*Cauldron Cakes (3 cakes)
*Fizzing Whizzbees (1 opened package) (magical property- the consumer floats)
*Exploding bonbons (1 opened package) (magical property- they explode in your mouth)
*Sugar Quill (4 quills)
*Liquorice Wands (opened pack of 6, now 4)
*Pumpkin Pasty (3 pasties)
*Pepper Imps (one opened package) (magical property- the consumer smokes at the ears and nose)
*Peppermint Toad (one opened package) (magical property- the toad "hops realistically in the stomach")

If asked, Derek will tell you if the sweet has magical properties. Feel free to help yourself and experience a bit of magic!


BONUS: WHAT EVER ELSE DECIDES TO HAPPEN AT THE PARTY!

General mingling and what ever crazy decides to happen at the party. This also includes what ever happens once Amanda leaves to hang out with her friends.

[Derek hugs Amanda from behind and holds a box wrapped in shiny red wrapping paper with a big white bow on top in front of her face.]

Happy 18th birthday Amanda.

[Derek kisses the side of her head and hands her the box. When Amanda open it, she will find these dancing sneakers.]

C. Wizard Candy

[Derek picks up one of the boxes of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and shakes near the person standing near him, offering them to try one (or two).]

Oh, thanks.

[Tatsuo accepts one of the beans and pops it in his mouth.

After a moment, a small frown forms on his face.]

Are you sure those aren't expired, Derek.

[Derek holds up the box to reveal the name of the candy.]

Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. Apparently they mean every flavor. What did it taste like?

[Please tell me it was vomit or boogers!]

[ She makes an exaggerated gesture, sticking her tongue out of her mouth and cringing at the kiss. Still accepts the present though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ She's not sure what to expect, and eyes Derek a bit skeptically as she shreds off the paper, rips open the box and--!! ]

Wow, you were actually thoughtful. I was halfway expecting a prank.

[Derek grabs her around the middle, hugs her, and starts trying to swing her around.]

You honestly think I would give my favorite sister a PRANK on her 18th birthday! Why you...

[Derek takes a step back and pretends to take the box away from Amanda.]

Maybe I'll just keep these shoes for myself then?

[ Matt puts out his palm for Derek to drop a jellybean into. As he lifts it to his mouth he pauses and sniffs it instead. He frowns and tilts his head. ]

What flavor is this supposed to be?

I'm not sure, these all called Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and from what I can tell, they mean EVERY flavor. When I tried one I got liver. That was sort of red, but yours is a different red that I haven't tried.

[Foggy tosses the jelly bean in his mouth without any thought and starts chewing. He hums thoughtfully and gives a content smile.]

Damn! These are some high quality jelly beans! Where did you get these?

Tatsuo is giving that cake a one over. It's just so... busy. How many decorations does one cake need? On top of that...

"Even with five us, I don't think we're going to be able to finish it..."

At least not in one go.

Once the cake has been sliced and passed around, Tatsuo holds out a gift bag to Amanda.

"Happy Birthday, Amanda. Welcome to adulthood."

Inside the gift bag is a sturdy, but stylish, water bottle.

c. wizarding candy

Tatsuo gets a bit curious about all this candy Derek has provided. Particularly the chocolate frogs. Just how accurate will the frog be anatomically? Or are they just cartoonish figures?

So he's not prepared when the frog suddenly jumps out of its packaging the moment he opens it.

"Wha--What the hell?"

[ She snatches the bag, quickly pulling the water bottle from within. She grins - seems like it's a hit! ]

Hey, thanks Tatsuo. You come up with this by yourself?

I figured keeping hydrated is just as important with dance as it is in karate. The trick was figuring out where to buy one.

[Derek sees the frog jump to the floor. Well, that won't do will it. Pulling out his wand he points it at the escaping frog.]

Wingardium Leviosa!

[The frog starts to levitate and rises, wiggling in mid air.]

Here, now you can grab it. They move by the way.

[Tatsuo does grab the frog once Derek levitates it close enough]

I almost don't want to eat it now. The wiggling makes it mildly disturbing.

[not that it stops him from ripping a leg off and popping it in his mouth]

Foggy was just looking over the candy options when Tatsuo opened the chocolate frog. When something goes flying out of the package he startles, "HOLY SHIT!" Foggy covers his mouth immediately out of habit whenever a teen is around until he realizes it's an eighteen year old Amanda of all kids and he shrugs off his mistake.

"What the?" He stares at the chocolate frog where it landed. "Is that supposed to be candy?"

Tatsuo can't help but snicker when Foggy covers his mouth. You can always spot the teacher when there's a child or teen in the room. Or at least the teachers that don't believe in swearing in front of them.

"I think so?"

He quickly bends down to grab the frog, catching it mid-hop.

"The wrapper said chocolate..."

A. Cake

[ She's been good. No excessive indulging, staying on top of dance practice-- bu that cake looks so good. The additional sweets on top are the first to catch her eye - her proverbial sticky fingers going in to swipe them. ] Hehehe-- It's my birthday, I can do what I want.

C. CANDY

[ ...And as if stealing cake-topper candy wasn't enough, we have this. Wow, she's certainly going to be in a sugar coma after today.

She tries a chocolate frog, which promptly hops out of its packaging and onto the floor as it tries to escape. Amanda takes after it. ]

Hey, move aside, I need to catch that frog!

[Not that Derek is NOT OK with Amanda taking the candy off the top but there is an order to things first. He picks up the box of candles and opens it.]

Can you at least blow out some candles first?

[Derek starts putting some candles on the top.]

It's tradition for goodness sake! Don't you want to make your birthday wish?

[broomdance]

No. [ She pops a macaron into her mouth. ] I don't even know what I want to wish for.

[ Matt can hear the frog approaching. It takes an extra second for him to react what with frogs jumping out of candy wrappers being strange and new to him. He grabs an empty cup, thinking he might be able to catch it if he's fast enough and able to pinpoint its location but when he turns back to face it the frog leaps onto his arm. ]

[broomdance]

Matt. Don't move. There's a possessed chocolate frog on your arm.

[ As tempting as it is to bulldoze ahead and just grab it, she doesn't want to accidentally knock into Matt if he starts moving. ]

Holy- This thing is the size of a wedding cake! You going to fill up on toppings and leave the cake for the rest of us? That's so very generous of you!

So will candles be in use and the song sung or has the birthday girl declared this a no-singing-to-her event?

[ He had a conversation about this with Amanda earlier. ]

[ Matt asked his niece for suggestions while he pondered what to give Amanda (she helps him out with descriptions anyway). He doesn't know what she owns already the way he can practically recite the list of sneakers Tatsuo has collected over the years. In the end the colorful bag he hands her contains a duffel bag and a jewelry box where she'll find a pair of pizza earrings. ]

There are gift receipts in there too in case you want to exchange something.

[ He's sure to mention to her when she opens it. ]

[When Derek invited Matt to Amanda's party he wasn't sure if Matt would actually come. They hadn't really talked or hung out after Derek apologized to him back in January and did that silly conversation about Leprechauns over the network towards the beginning of the month actually count. So when Derek gets the chance he approaches Matt. He wants their friendship to mend, he want to be able to joke with him again and become a person Matt can turn to again eventually.]

Matt, thanks for coming. Your gift was thoughtful and I'm know Amanda appreciates you coming. [A beat.] I-I appreciate you coming.

[Derek's hands clench at his sides in nervous anticipation.]
