WHAT: It's a birthday party! Amanda is now 18! With Derek throwing in his wizard candy to make things more interesting
WARNINGS: none? Wizard Candy stuff?

It's March 17th and it is the most IMPORTANT first event of the year, at least in Derek's mind. With Amanda turning 18, Derek has tried to create the PERFECTA BIRTHDAY PARTY! Amanda wanted it small and family. So he invited only "family." Foggy (the cousin), Matt (honorary brother), and Tatsuo (also an honorary brother). His apartment is decked out in red streamers, a "HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY!" sign strung across the front of his kitchen. He had red party plates and cups, and red and white streamers everywhere else. He figured it was fine since the ones he had hung above Blaise's cat tree was entertaining for his cat.

A. CAKE AND CELEBRATION

The cake is in the center of the table with a box of 24 birthday candles next to it. It's huge and a bit gaudy, but Derek felt this was the PERFECT CAKE. If anyone is wondering, it's chocolate. There is also plenty of soda and water to drink.

B. PRESENTS

It's time to give the birthday girl her gifts!

C. WIZARD CANDY FUN?

So Derek figured a good way to pass the time was to introduce some of his close friends and family to the contents of a package he got from retrospec. It's wizard candy. If a person looks inside they will see that everything has been opened, meaning, Derek (and Chiyo) have tried everything first and didn't die. The contents are as follows:

*Box of chocolate frogs (8) (magical property- The frogs can move)
*Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans (2 boxes) (The flavors)
*Cauldron Cakes (3 cakes)
*Fizzing Whizzbees (1 opened package) (magical property- the consumer floats)
*Exploding bonbons (1 opened package) (magical property- they explode in your mouth)
*Sugar Quill (4 quills)
*Liquorice Wands (opened pack of 6, now 4)
*Pumpkin Pasty (3 pasties)
*Pepper Imps (one opened package) (magical property- the consumer smokes at the ears and nose)
*Peppermint Toad (one opened package) (magical property- the toad "hops realistically in the stomach")

If asked, Derek will tell you if the sweet has magical properties. Feel free to help yourself and experience a bit of magic!

BONUS: WHAT EVER ELSE DECIDES TO HAPPEN AT THE PARTY!

General mingling and what ever crazy decides to happen at the party. This also includes what ever happens once Amanda leaves to hang out with her friends.

[Derek grins when he hears the candy exploding in Tatsuo's mouth.]

[Tatsuo swallows a bit of melted chocolate and lets the popping die down before swallowing the rest]

Kind of like a bunch of pop-rocks. Except a bit more vigorous.

[Derek grins.]

I thought that one was kind of cool when I first tried it.

[Derek reaches over and grabs a Fizzing Wizzbee out of the package and holds it up for Tatsuo to see. It looks like a chocolate shaped like a fly.]

This one, a Fizzing Wizzbee is really fun.

[Derek pops it in his mouth and chews. As soon as he swallows it, he starts to float a few inches off the ground.]

Neat eh? It only lasts for a minute or so though.

[Tatsuo notices Derek is suddenly getting taller than him... looks down, and realizes Derek is actually floating. He takes a step back.... then steps back in to sweep his foot underneath Derek's floating ones.]

Are you trying to break my brain? This isn't scientifically possible.

[Derek smirks.]

It's magic Tatsuo.

[Derek points to the package of Fizzing Wizzbee's]

Try one. Or are you scared of a bit of magic?

You know, if it wasn't for the fact you're currently floating with no assistance, this conversation could have a very different meaning.

[Tatsuo does take one of those chocolates though.]

How do you know this will even work on me? I'm not a wizard.

[but apparently it does, because the moment he swallows the candy... his stomach gives an unpleasant squeeze as his feet start drifting away from the floor]

Whoa!

[Derek laughs at Tatsuo's reaction.]

See? Magic can be fun.

[Derek feels the magic of the candy wearing off and he is starting the slowly lower back to the floor.]

More like it can be mind boggling. What does it do? Change your molecular density somehow?

[that's the only scientific explanation after all, somehow becoming lighter than air]

[Derek's feet touch the floor again and he gives Tatsuo an incredulous look.]

You expect me to scientifically explain magic?

No! But it has to do something! What about countering gravitational forces? You're the sci-fi fan here!

Yeah, exactly, Sci-fi fan. Not Fantasy. Fantasy function outside the laws of sci-fi. I can't even make head or tales of this.

So you remember spells and stuff and how to do them, but how the spells actually do what they do.... no idea?

[THANKFULLY SINKING BACK TO THE GROUND]

[Derek shrugs.]

It's probably in Draco's magic theory textbook, which I have yet to get, if I'm even going to get it. All I have is his textbook on magical creatures, and it came to me mostly blank. I think the more I remember or the magical creatures in the memories the more the book will fill in.

Magical creatures? Like, dragons and unicorns and things like that?

[Derek nods.]

Pretty much. There are dragons, unicorns, hippogriffs, leprechauns... and a bunch of blank pages.

Like you have to fill it in as you go? Like a field journal?

I guess. The book isn't really think, but it still clearly has a lot of entries. How long do you think it could take to fill it in?

How would I know? It's your book. How many creatures did you see while out in the forest last month? I mean, we don't exactly have a lot of magical creatures around town.

I saw a lot of weird shit last month. That doesn't mean it's going to be in Draco's book.

So no giant man-eating rabbits where he's from?

No, just hippogriffs, these half horse, half eagle things.

So, somehow, if you want to see what else is in that book, you have to first get a memory of it the usual way?

[Derek gives Tatsuo a strange look. What is Tatsuo talking about.]

Usual way? If you mean getting a random memory about something, then I guess so?

Just seems like kind of a pain. Here's a book Draco owned, but you can't read it until you remember what's inside.

Right? Like what's the point of giving me the bloody book?]
