MAGATUS

READY: START.

On the morning of the fourth at 9am, you'll find yourself gathering at the Recollé Zoo and Aquarium. Many of you will find yourself partnered up and with a name in mind, and awaiting in front of you is a large bus with the Retrospec logo on the hood. A text comes through not long after, Zee's name attached.

I'm no Ms. Frazzle, but I think this bus will do the trick. Hope you packed a book or something.

Upon boarding the bus you'll find that's it's equipped for a longer road trip. There are snacks, books, video game consoles, and even a few beds and bathrooms. Just as well, seeing how you're going to be traveling north of the city, traveling through the woods for about seven hours. As you travel, the sky begins to change colors and the temperature drops toward the end of your journey. Outside the window you'll see a mountain range and snow on the ground, and stars streak across the sky as you enter the beautiful region of Magatus.

Permanently semi-dark with beautiful colors streaking across the sky, Magatus is filled with rivers, grass, coniferous trees and snow-capped mountains. The temperature is quite frigid, so travelers will need to bundle up!

The region known as Magatus is fairly open and while there may not a huge population like Recollé, there are small clusters of buildings and homes that characters can find by exploring this region. There is roughly 1,500 square miles to cover in the area claiming to be Magatus and some parts of this region may experiences changes in weather including heavy snow, ice, and blackouts.

Most of the towns are quaint and friendly though most people appear to mind their own business. If spoken to, they will explain that they’ve been enjoying their time alone and away from the hustle and bustle of city life, though it may be a little hard to know if this is actually true. Some of the younger ones will say they’ve lived here their whole life, but most will shy away from the topic of where they came from. Shops that can be found seem to range in the realm of basic general stores, hardware stores, mini foodmarts, and weaponry. The Magatus people truly live a simple life.

The true nature of this region doesn’t seem to come out until nightfall, however. As the light fades and the sky darkens, the colors brighten above and the sound of wolves begin howling nonstop. Depending, you may even hear the sound of snarling and growling, quick footsteps crunching through fresh snow and irritated barking. The townspeople know better than to stay out at night when the wolves run and the shadows dance, and they would advise that anyone from out of town take cover.

Too bad they won’t invite you in. You’re on your own out in the wilderness.

This is the Team Four Event Log! You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log.

Remember, your activity to qualify for your two free memories and one item is supplying at least 30 comments spread over the three objectives per group (minimum of 5 comments per objective!) with at least three members of your groups. You will not be eligible if you do not participate in all three objectives somehow, and you will not be eligible if you only stick with your preferred partner!

People who are paired with partners will experience some of the following:

-Telepathic connections, but only the thoughts you don’t want your partner to actually hear. You can also use this to influence your partner’s thoughts.
-Color fades when you’re not cooperating, it brightens when you are.
-Cause and effect. If something happens to your partner, you feel it (i.e. if your partner trips somewhere, you’ll feel the effects.)
-Timers. You and your partner will have a countdown embedded somewhere (hand, foot, chest, whatever) and if you don’t complete your missions and see each other before the timer runs out, consequences occur.

These are not required and you may play with these as little or as much as you want!

[ Yu makes a small noise of surprise, catching the ice as best as one can catch a hunk of ice. With a stare at it and a shrug, he'll gently press it to his neck and get to his feet.

At least they were in the lodge when they were taken -- Yu, at least, finds himself glad he hadn't put on his heavy winter gear yet. Even this long sleeve shirt feels oppressively hot in this atmosphere. ]

It's an unreality twist. So... no, we're not. We're somewhere else.

[ Yu will take a few steps forward onto the path, and can't help the flicker of a smile at the way Sanji's heart stone barks at him. Sanji will get a warm, fond feeling in return that seems to say yes, yes, I know.. ]

If this is anything like the last time, then there's a task here we need to complete.

[Don't you dare dere at him, Yu, he's still mad.

It's also hot as fuck. Hissing out a sigh, Sanji loosens his tie in one gesture, only barely finds relief from that, and so is halfway to unbuttoning the front of his dress shirt by the time he responds to the group. Thank God he left the scarf and jacket back in the lodge.]

Well, we got a path to follow. And it looks like there's something in the distance.

[A tower, perhaps? It's far enough away that it's true height is debatable, but it's there, and that's what counts]

[ well that seems to be helping, at least? no one wants to explain to the folks back home about the time Yu took a full on lava bath. ]

They do say that looking for landmarks is important if you're lost. [ He thinks. ] So yes, that sounds like a good starting point.

...

But no more lava diving, please.

[ He lost about seven years there, thanks Yu. Also, Sanji. What are you doing. No??? ]

[ Yu looks at Sanji,

considers for a moment,

and then hums a verbal shrug and strips off his own shirt in one smooth motion. He proceeds to tie it around his waist like a tourist at Disneyland, but, look, getting transported into a -- volcano? planetary core? you know, whatever -- is no reason to ruin a good shirt. ]

Alright. [ Continuing to press the ice to his neck and his hands. ] Let's get going, then. [ To Yusuke, with a bit of a crooked smile: ] No promises, though.

[Sanji is doing the Lord's work, Yusuke, and apparently Yu is going to follow his shining example. But no seriously, it's hot, Sanji is not going to die from heat stroke in the name of decency.

Though he doesn't tie his shirt around his waist, instead tossing it over his shoulder like a makeshift cape. Cracking his neck some, he dabs the gathering sweat off his forehead before complying with Yu's order. Time to hoof it, gentlemen.]

Ten bucks says some bullshit monster's gonna be guarding whatever we're heading towards.

[ Yusuke, on the other hand, is not removing his shirt. Luckily he too had shed his layers back at the ski lodge, but he's fine to keep clothed for as long as he feels he can. He might regret this in about five minutes though.

His first thought is that he should probably sketch all of this - a lava filled network of tunnels and caves is not a site one can easily just wander up to in the real world, and neglecting this chance would just be a disappointment later. Unfortunately, he doesn't have his sketchbook with him. And if he did and pulled it out here, he feels like the paper would explode into flames immediately.

Plus, y'know. There are character studies to be sketched here as well. He'll go with that. Leave him alone ]

If there is something worth taking there, then it'd be no fun if there wasn't. Assuming, of course, that our goal here is theft.

[ Look man. Yu is a swimmer. Has been for almost a year now. He is ripped.

(I hear Yu Narukami has an eight pack. I hear Yu Narukami is shredded.)

Yu's focus is, of course, entirely elsewhere. He's pushing his hair up off his forehead as they walk. The ice is already gone, obliterated by the heat around them faster than his own body heat could melt it. The path is long and winding, and on all sides there's only heat and fire... ]

I think the bigger threat is dehydration... we'd better be careful. [ If they lose too much water, it'll go badly for them. ]

As for that... it could be something, or someone.

[ he's thinking of how they had to save poor joanne last august. no telling yet if it'll be an object to steal, or a person to steal away. ]

[Well, y'know.

Sanji's doing well for himself, too.

Though at Yu's concern, Sanji turns a glance over his shoulder, directed at Yusuke.]

Oi, real talk for a sec. Would it take a lot of effort to keep making us ice to drink?

[It's not a question of if Yusuke will do it, but rather how long they can reasonably count on his powers before the exhaustion hits. Because let's face it, Sanji knows of everyone present, his power set is the least helpful.]

[ Yeah. He's noticed, Sa~~tan~~nji. GeEz. Yusuke blinks, a little like being spoken to has snapped him back to attention out of a daze. Ffff.

[ He's aware of how draining it can be, but he... can probably handle it, little and often. Given some time in between to catch his breath. ]

We can try it, and I'll let you know if I feel too drained?

[Sanji will be watching vey carefully regardless, so he assumes Yusuke won't get far if he tries to hide his fatigue.

... Though since he is still looking over his shoulder, he continues as the three of them pick up their pace, headed in the direction of the tower.]

You know we got a ways to go, right? You're gonna cook in that damn shirt if you keep it on.

[It's a statement born of concern, though Sanji is careful to wrap it in practicality -- and thus allows himself the stray thought of how he certainly doesn't mind if Yusuke joins them in walking around half-naked, it's for his own good, Sanji doesn't mean shit by it--

Thoughts which... might filter through his connection with Yu. Um.]

[ Yusuke glances down at his own shirt, then back up at Sanji. ]

I should be fine for now. My temperature tends to run cooler anyway. If I’m struggling I will shed some layers.

[ While he’s not too fussed about his figure, there is something a little ... well, it makes him hesitate to join the others in shedding layers when he’s surrounded by what is apparently the new cast of Gladiators 2018. Muscles everywhere. He just has uh... skin and a naturally pronounced rib cage. Sexy.

It would make a nice contrast though, but as he’s established he can’t paint here... there’s not much point. ~~Sorry Sanji.~~ ]

[ ah. ]

[ The last time he was around this much UST he was hanging out with Yosuke at prom during that time they were both trying to convince themselves they didn't have the dokis. ]

[ TIME TO PRETEND NONE OF IT IS HAPPENING.

Except he ends up thinking it's at least a little cute, and that's a thought he really doesn't want Sanji to hear, so, enjoy that, Sanji. ]

Just don't push yourself. We don't know how much longer we'll need to be in this place.

[ And the path is long and winding. Even when he was expecting it, he's still a little dismayed by how fast the water from the ice evaporates off his skin and hair. But they make some progress, the thing in the distance slowly resolving itself through the shimmer of the heat into a high tower.

And then the path explodes in a tiny volcanic eruption! Prompting Yu to leap back with a yell. ]

[Sanji wasn't going to press Yusuke into it, he's (surprisingly) not that kind of asshole -- but um he hears that thought, Yu, prompting Sanji to shoot the other a disapproving scowl. WHO IS CUTE? Not him. Definitely not him. Bite his ass, partner.

... That yell, tho. How unsightly. Sanji doesn't even flinch, just glances over Yu's shoulder with a loud, teasing tsk.]

Watch out for any gas or debris. That shit can reach speeds of about 155 miles per hour.

[He says. Casually.

While staring at the path that has been dynamited away.]

[ Yusuke goes from slightly bemused glancing between Yu and the now-glaring Sanji, to jumping slightly at the mini-eruption and suddenly missing floor. Y i k e s. ]

R-Right... so we're contending with extreme heat, exploding floors and whatever else is lurking around here.

[ goody.

With a small sigh, he leans cautiously forwards to peer at what's left of the path, hopefully without getting lava'd in the face. ]

I could make a bridge, but it would likely melt while we were stood on it. But... [ He stares at the high tower, wavering in the distance in waves of pure heat. ] We are going to have to cross this.

[ ... is Sanji a geologist or something and he didn't know ...

Well, anyway. With a gesture and a snap of blue light Yu will bring Mada back out. ]

I can carry us across. My energy is fine for now, but I can't do it indefinitely.

S'not really any need.

[Sanji jerks his thumb at Mada, indicating he means the Persona isn't necessary. And why, pray tell?

WELL:]

I can just jump it with one of you on my back. We're gonna need your Personas later, so better you guys keep your energies high at the start.

[It's just pragmatic in Sanji's mind. Why waste resources when he can easily take them over the distance? And especially as he doesn't have a Persona, that cuts down his overall flexibility.]

...

[ ... uh. ]

Not that I’m doubting you [ but he’s doubting you ], but that’s not going to wear you out unnecessarily? And that’s not an insignificant distance...

[ just trying to avoid a lava bath, over here. He’s vulnerable to fire, unlike some people here. ]

[... Y'know, if they want a demonstration, that's fair. Won't stop Sanji from shooting Yusuke an extremely flat look before he

jumps the entire distance...

Didn't even bother taking his hands out of his pockets, either, like this is insultingly easy for Leggy McLeg over here.]

Satisfied? [Calling over the broken path] But fine, if you don't feel safe, take your damn Persona over here, then.

[ wow ok you show off.

Yusuke just folds his arms and gives Sanji a incredibly flat look. ]

Doubts aside, do forgive me for voicing my concerns about casually jumping over active lava before I leap head first into the idea. Most people I know don’t make a habit of it.

[A statement that manages to be both casual and a little scathing, though after another irritated glance shot in Yusuke's direction, he nods his head in a "well get the fuck over here then". Whatever gets the job done at this point.]

[ He doesn't doubt Sanji in the slightest, but this argument is stupid.

So Mada is just going to pick him and Yusuke up, carry them across the lava, and deposit them safely on the other side. ]

Sanji, if we run into another obstacle like that, I'll trust you to take us across. For now, we should keep going.

[ OKAY, CHILDREN? ]

[ oh. Oh. Okay I guess this is how he's crossing the lava now. He freezes, clinging to Mada's until his feet hit solid ground - and stumbles a couple of steps forwards as he catches his balance.

In the distance, now no longer hidden by such an intense source of hot air and distortion, he catches sight of the entrance to the looming tower and large figures prowling around in front of what looks like a door. Before he can really ascertain what they are, or how much of a threat they could be, there's a flash and distortion around his body and his outfit shifts from the more casual clothing he'd been wearing to something a little more... dramatic.

There's a moment where he pauses, twisting around to catch sight of the tail attached to his belt, and twisting his wrists around to study the gloves on his hands. And then he reaches up and tugs the mask off his face because while he might run cool, it's far too warm for a mask. ]

We should be careful. I don't think those creatures are friendly.

[ He still doesn't have complete control over this odd summoning method, but he knows enough to guess that it has something to do with nearby danger, or threats - to himself, or that he himself represents.

...

... and then there's another clatter, loud enough to Yusuke to jump a little in surprise, as an assault rifle pops out of midair and clatters to the ground. Yusuke, helpfully, just stares at it. Good hustle, guys. ]
