READY: START Team Snow White roster: Davey Jacobs, Eleanor Lamb, Fang, Kasen Kanesada, Malik Ishtar, Mari Ohara, Riku, Ritsu Kageyama, Ryoji Mochizuki, Toushiro Hitsugaya, Yuri Plisetsky. The city's been under siege for what feels like hours. It's only on August 3rd that you learn it's been a matter of days. Monsters begin pulling Retrospec users through portals left and right, large gaping holes in reality that spit you out in any given location around the city. However, just as you think you're finally getting away, a large blue portal opens and you're snatched up. No amount of fighting and struggling will free you and soon the pressure is too great to ignore. Darkness fills your vision and the last thing you may remember is the sound of many bat wings... This is the Team Snow White Event Log. You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log. Please be aware you are responsible for reporting your own participation & objective completion efforts with links; the moderators will try to keep up with threads, but as we are currently running several teams with participation, we require you to keep us up to date! Because of course the animated talking rocks want us to play a game.

[Eleanor said this with the kind of quiet, resigned frustration that came from spending a week in a mine and then a week in a swamp and then a week in a haunted house.]

Right, okay then.

[She scanned the row of busts, adjusting her purse on her shoulder in thoughtful habit, and then pointed to the bust of a woman a few heads down.]

How about you, please?

[catsudon]

A pop quiz on what?

( HE FEELS LIKE THEY'RE SO SCREWED )

[recollecters]

[Somehow, the bust smiles. The woman that Eleanor points to turns her eyes toward the pair and peers down her nose at them. She clears her throat and asks the question.]

You enter a room with a match. In the room there is a stove, a heater and a candle. What do you light first?

[Yuri's question will receive an answer in due time.]

[She should've expected a riddle, but...really? Eleanor just sort of frowns, thinking it over for a few seconds.]

The candle. Because you can use it to light the stove and the heater. Assuming the heater isn't electric anyway.

[Did they have electric heaters in old swamp haunted houses?]

[catsudon]

... Wouldn't you have to light the match?

( asks... Yuri... because he's confused about what the hell they were just asked in the first place. )

[recollecters]

[Before the lady bust can respond, she freezes up and turns back into a statue. There's a flurry of whispers as the professor raises his eyebrows appraisingly.]

If you had gone with her answer, you would have failed. You would in fact have to light the match! To fully understand, you must exercise your mind and think of higher possibilities! Go on then. Another.

[Eleanor groaned.]

Oh of course it has a double meaning. I hate riddles. Why couldn't they have just asked us to fix their toasted. I can do that.

[She made a vague sort of 'ugh whatever' gesture at Yuri.]

You pick.

[catsudon]

( he pales, even as he leans forward and stomps a foot on the ground. he POINTS at the next bust, not really caring what it is, and shoots Eleanor a look. )

Do you have anything to make these guys go back to stone?

( HE'S NOT THE RIDDLE GUY. he is not the riddler. can they hire jim carey. is he on the phone the audience list. )

You. Next question.

[recollecters]

[Yuri are you okay. But the bust straightens up and stares at the two of them for a moment.]

One day, a man is found dead in a circular mansion. When the detective arrives he interviews the cook, maid, and babysitter. The cook said he couldn't have done it because he was preparing the meal. The maid said she couldn't have because she was dusting the corners. And the babysitter said she couldn't because she was playing with the children. Which of these people lied to the detective?

[Eleanor is slower to answer this time, even if her attitude isn't exactly any better about the whole thing. She narrows her eyes, tracing through the options slowly. Then she waves for Yuri to come over to her, so as to talk quietly enough that the statues can't tell her she's wrong again.]

...It's the maid, right?

[She asked in a whisper.]

[catsudon]

( Yuri is literally holding his hands in a circle and frowning. )

Gotta be. Can't find corners in a circle, right?

( He holds up his hands in their circle and hates that this is what his life has come to. Tortured by talking heads spouting riddles. )

The maid had to be lying about dusting the corners in a circular mansion. At the same time you haven't told us anything that says the other two were being truthful either. We don't know there are kids there, who is this guy if a babysitter is over, and what meal was the chef even preparing? This is stupid!

( Yuri is ready to Fight. )

The maid's just obvious about lying!

[recollecters]

[The same thing happens. The flurry of whispers, more impressed this time, and the bust they spoke to freezes up and returns to its statue form.]

The devil's in the details, isn't it? [The professor looks pleased.] Step lightly! Three more questions to prove yourself.

[And to save time, no matter which bust they pick they will receive a question.]

If 3 peacocks lay 5 eggs in 8 days, how many peacocks will lay 29 eggs in 76 days?

Isn't that just a math...wait.

[This time she felt clever for seeing the trick.]

Peacocks don't lay eggs, peahens do. Peacocks are boys.

[A beat.]

...I learned that at the zoo.

[catsudon]

( Yuri is of course trying to do the math when she speaks up, and he pauses, looking over at her. He had not, actually, thought about the fact peacocks weren't all just... peacocks. )

Wait, so why do we call them peacocks? Are they peabirds or something?

( Point being, he goes with her answer. )

This is like that stupid "if a rooster lays an egg on the top of the hen house which side does it roll off" thing. Ugh!

[recollecters]

[One bust down, two more to go.]

You, child, appear to be a pea-brain. [Yuri come now. But he's pleased with Eleanor's answer.] Stepping outside of your boundaries and seeing the world! Now that's how it's done.

[Their next bust...]

A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose among three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest?

[Eleanor rolls her eyes at that, crossing her arms.]

We're being insulted by stonework.

[There was something extra weird about that. But she turned dutifully to listen to the riddle. Okay this one was easy.]

Lions that haven't eaten in three years are dead so...

[catsudon]

Dust for brains. Three years is dead and decomposed enough not to be dangerous. Then again if there's a room full of assassins what a fucking money waste.

( they need contracts to kill right?
serves these theoretical idiots right. )

What kind of assholes starve lions to death? Ugh...

[recollecters]

[Yuri...

See the problem with that is while Yuri makes a good point, and that is the correct answer, netting them one more point, the professor doesn't like being sassed at.]

Is that so?

[There's the sound of a grate sliding open and suddenly a low, rumbling purr. From the shadows come two large, marble lions and they slowly begin to advance on both Eleanor and Yuri.

What now, guys?]

[Eleanor took a step back, eyes wide. Oh come on. She was so sick of this!]

We gave you the right answer!

[She pointed out, looking at the bust.]

And if you let your lions eat us, we can't answer any more of your riddles!

[catsudon]

( here stands Yuri, wide eyed. that purr... those graceful forms... )

These guys are so freaking cool!

( professor. please. you're just making him happy because fear hasn't decided to check in yet. )

If we answer all your riddles can we take one home, Prof? Please? Can we?

[recollecters]

--I beg your pardon? [The professor appears stumped suddenly, eyes glancing between Eleanor and Yuri. Between Eleanor's logic and Yuri's apparent lack of fear and inane question, he's not sure what to do. Perhaps the best way to end this game once and for all is to outsmart the professor himself.] That's preposterous! There's always time for knowledge and why would you take them home?

Not if we get eaten there's not! You'll have to tell your riddles to yourself.

[She doesn't really know what to make of Yuri's request, honestly, but she has to admit the stone animals certainly look impressive. Almost alive, really. In another situation she'd have been as excited as he seemed to be. But she was mostly tired.]

[catsudon]

What she said. You know the answers to your own questions. Where's the new knowledge in that? Plus look at these guys! They're awesome! I wonder if they'd like catnip...

( he's tracking them and keeping up that outward excitement; easy, because it's genuine, though he's also aware enough now that there's a real and genuine danger here. mostly from the Professor, which he's circling around to now and giving him that sharp, bright eyed look of a teenager who desperately Wants Something. )

Stone guardians are about the only kind I can afford. So, Professor, what'll it be? You need us alive to be learning anything from you, and I'd be happy to bring these guys home with me. With how weird things have been back in the city, I bet I could even bring them to the park so they could run around and chase the pigeons, or the chocobos or something. Lions deserve to be free. No one deserves to be caged in.

( let him have the stone lions PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE )

[recollecters]

The new knowledge for new generations! How can youth be so blind? [The lions seem to be circling Eleanor and Yuri and growing closer and closer. When Yuri starts to circle one lion stops and stares at him curiously before promptly roaring in his face.

Still not out-right attacking, but roaring.]

Your city means nothing to me, wake up! You must obtain knowledge to return to it and fix what's been broken! Spreading the wings of the mind is the only freedom people in this house receive. This house is cursed! Your city means nothing!

Answer me this then! "I can only live where there is light, but I die if the light shines on me." Without a light, how will you defeat me?

[Eleanor frowned, her attention mostly on the stone lions, one hand held up defensively towards the closest one, but trying to process the question.]

Okay so the thing is a shadow. But...how do you kill a shadow without light?

[This was probably something abstract, and she was standing here trying to think of a lightless shadow-ruining machine...]
