MAGATUS

READY: START. Many of you will find yourself partnered up and with a name in mind, and awaiting in front of you is a large bus with the Retrospec logo on the hood. A text comes through not long after, Zee's name attached. I'm no Ms. Frazzle, but I think this bus will do the trick. Hope you packed a book or something. Upon boarding the bus you'll find that's it's equipped for a longer road trip. There are snacks, books, video game consoles, and even a few beds and bathrooms. Just as well, seeing how you're going to be traveling north of the city, traveling through the woods for about seven hours. As you travel, the sky begins to change colors and the temperature drops toward the end of your journey. Outside the window you'll see a mountain range and snow on the ground, and stars streak across the sky as you enter the beautiful region of Magatus. Permanently semi-dark with beautiful colors streaking across the sky, Magatus is filled with rivers, grass, coniferous trees and snow-capped mountains. The temperature is quite frigid, so travelers will need to bundle up! The region known as Magatus is fairly open and while there may not a huge population like Recollé, there are small clusters of buildings and homes that characters can find by exploring this region. There is roughly 1,500 square miles to cover in the area claiming to be Magatus and some parts of this region may experiences changes in weather including heavy snow, ice, and blackouts. Most of the towns are quaint and friendly though most people appear to mind their own business. If spoken to, they will explain that they’ve been enjoying their time alone and away from the hustle and bustle of city life, though it may be a little hard to know if this is actually true. Some of the younger ones will say they’ve lived here their whole life, but most will shy away from the topic of where they came from. Shops that can be found seem to range in the realm of basic general stores, hardware stores, mini foodmarts, and weaponry. The Magatus people truly live a simple life. The true nature of this region doesn’t seem to come out until nightfall, however. As the light fades and the sky darkens, the colors brighten above and the sound of wolves begin howling nonstop. Depending, you may even hear the sound of snarling and growling, quick footsteps crunching through fresh snow and irritated barking. The townspeople know better than to stay out at night when the wolves run and the shadows dance, and they would advise that anyone from out of town take cover. Too bad they won’t invite you in. You’re on your own out in the wilderness. This is the Team Four Event Log! You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log. Remember, your activity to qualify for your two free memories and one item is supplying at least 30 comments spread over the three objectives per group (minimum of 5 comments per objective!) with at least three members of your groups. You will not be eligible if you do not participate in all three objectives somehow, and you will not be eligible if you only stick with your preferred partner! People who are paired with partners will experience some of the following: -Telepathic connections, but only the thoughts you don’t want your partner to actually hear. You can also use this to influence your partner’s thoughts. -Color fades when you’re not cooperating, it brightens when you are. -Cause and effect. If something happens to your partner, you feel it (i.e. if your partner trips somewhere, you’ll feel the effects.) -Timers. You and your partner will have a countdown embedded somewhere (hand, foot, chest, whatever) and if you don’t complete your missions and see each other before the timer runs out, consequences occur. [ eren sits himself down when he finds the comfort in doing so, legs propped up and arms loosely around them. he might’ve expected that, he would’ve done the same thing, he’s done the same thing— it’s in those moments that you don’t know what else you can give.

so, he’s quiet for a minute, watching the dim lights of nature that push through glass. ]

I didn’t feel it. [ if that’s what she’s worrying about. after a beat: ] Did you know you could do that?

[Amelia looked very skeptical about that. The taste of iron in her mouth was a distinct memory, as much as the feeling of having too many limbs and claws was.]

Regardless. My behavior was reprehensible.

[She fiddled with the strip of meat in her hand instead of looking down at it. Her soft, very human hand.]

Only in dreams.

[Dreams where she saw her shadow as something else.]

You’ll only get that when you control it.

[ he speaks from experience; although his words are curt and unmeasured, they’re honest and hardly sugar coated. he sees the look in her distant eyes, and he can’t help but to feel something pull at his chest: he sees the desperation in himself. choosing to dawdle less and get further to the point, he continues with certainty. ]

—And I want to help you with that.

Amelia stared at him, brows furrowed, like he'd just casually admitted knowing the winning numbers to the lottery. Implausible, but earnest.]

...are you serious?

[ . . . it probably did sound pretty odd at first. while a military man, he’s still young, and amelia had enough age on her to be his mother. he didn’t want it to come off as arrogance, or assume he had the answer to everything— he was still learning just as much as anyone, and aware he had a ton more steps to grow.

but an opportunity ignored is already sentenced to failure. if he could help with something– ]

As far as I know, I’m the only one on the network that can match your size. [ he doesn’t need to remind her of the rest; and he can hold his own, he’s proved it. ] . . . And I know how you feel.

[ he pauses, giving a glance down at some of the jerky he had gotten for himself. he could feel it. he knows it. and the best thing that happened to him was to have willing friends help him with his own troubles. ]

Down to doubting my humanity.

[...this seemed wrong. All backwards, like a hair growing back on itself. This was something she should be asking her peers, not...some boy her son's age.

But her peers had no answers for her. Her peers couldn't do what he could, let alone what Amelia herself was capable of. And now there was an even greater wedge between herself and them--one with scales and teeth, and so far from human there was no doubt whatsoever.

This form felt right. And so did the dragon's shape. So which was she?

Amelia was silent for a long moment.]

How long have you been able to do that? Becoming a giant.

[It wasn't a yes, it wasn't a no.]

[ eren had wished that he had what he was offering when he received the ability, but quickly dismissed the thought when reminded that, while not completely appropriate for the task, willing friends to help were what made him get through his own confusions and loathing. he doesn’t mind the answer being retarded, they were far from home with other objectives still on the rise.

still, it wouldn’t hurt to keep the option there. what’s more, he’s serving the people his uniform prides. ]

Since December. Only really found out in January. [ that doesn’t make much sense, but. ] I had memories of it before, they just— didn’t make sense. Especially when I hated them.

[She needed time to think. Accepting his help would be a further acknowledgment of what she no longer was. Simply rejecting it would...well, the consequences were obvious.]

And how long did it take you to...stop disliking that part of yourself?

[A part of Amelia found such distaste bewildering--the dragon represented power, and strength, an amazing ability. Yet the rest of her mind refused to let go of the ground she once stood on: she was Amelia Wagner, she was an architect--not...that, a creature spun out of rage.]

[ it’s all a matter of perspective, one that eren hesitates to respond to, not out of doubt, but out of complexity and putting that into words. there wasn’t a set time for anyone to accept anything— there was just time, and the right amount for each person. ]

The time it took to focus on what I could do with it instead of what it was. [ which does make him shift the slant of his head. ] It was different for me now than from what I remember. Your time’s gonna be different from mine, and your memories too. If you want it to.

[ because if she didn’t— she could also ignore it. a rather dumb move, in eren’s eyes, but a free and important choice all the same. ]

[Amelia listened again, and was quiet again.]

...I suppose that was an unfair question to ask.

[There was power there, beneath the anger. There was greatness. Just as there were...unwelcome questions about what she, fundamentally, was.

But she'd kept Eren waiting long enough.]

Yes, I will accept your assistance.

[ —heh. ]

Great. [ he’s actually relieved, for her, to hear that. he wants to help, he really does. ] I don’t know how much time we’ll have here, [ with these objectives; they could be called at anytime. ] but I will. In everything I can.

[ they could start by exploration through talk, of course. ]

Do you remember what triggered it when you transformed?

Anger. But this is hardly the first time I've known that.

[Being around so many loud, annoying voices was irritating, yes. But that was hardly a reason to...snap like that. A chaotic fury had boiled up in her chest, free of reason, tearing loose out of its container.]

This form felt too small.

When we get back, we can use the woods— see if it’s just anger.

I figured out I need an injury and a solid goal to shift. And that I have limits. So we’ll figure out yours, too.
