It seems like someone is manually picking and choosing from a list of every Retrospec user who didn't disappear into the void, and several names queue up. > initialize support team CONFIRMED. The screen clears itself, and instead of the familiar retrospec logo, there is simply TEAM ETHANOL as a designation. the application will refuse to show anything other than a map, with one point highlighted in red. it is, of course, up to team members to decide whether or not they approach the access point. Team Ethanol's access point is in the Recollé Graveyard. Team members will find the grave of "G. Mahoney" will move aside to reveal catacombs so long as they approach it in groups of two or more team members. Only Team Ethanol team members can see or enter the catacombs at this time. Please see the Objective 1 toplevel for more information on what they can see when they travel further down the tunnels. This is the Team Ethanol Event Log. You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log. Important links to mod toplevels are: Mod Questions & Participation Reporting. [ Kiryu glances at the statues as well. What sort of fun flavor text awaits them...? He sure isn't gonna touch this thing until he's sure of what they're dealing with. ]

[ there are three statues on each of the three sides of the platforms. the ones on the left are human figures wrapped in shrouds, at a glance; the ones on the right are three stony-faced humans, each with a sword raised. ]

[She frowns up at her shrouded figures. A moment, and then she reaches up, covering one's eyes (or the space where his eyes ought to be, if it's covered by a shroud), waiting to see if that will do anything.]

[ Kiryu definitely doesn't have enough hands for this, but he'll try and cover the eyes of one of the statues on his end, too. ]

Unless... is this supposed to be the evil side?

[ Are they going to need one more person, or...? ]

[She jumps, but thank god, the statues don't move. Just speak, like that's not at all terrifying. But that . . . hm.]

What evil have you not seen . . . Something insidious? Something that's heard? That's invisible?

[ Well that's creepy. Kiryu shudders, but he keeps his hands on the statue he's picked since he might as well... ]

Is it asking us, personally? Like, uh, I guess I've never seen someone... commit fraud?

[ Kiryu, you might be taking this too literally. ]

[ kiryu may be on the right track! the statues are waiting for something that is literal and somewhat personal!

it may also require a philosophical bent of mind, however. ]

I've never witnessed a murder. Or . . . a robbery.

I've never seen sadism for sadism's sake. Is that more in line what it wants? I've never seen a mass murder.

[ Maybe something more personal or evil...? Kiryu's not exactly creative unfortunately. ]

I've never seen anyone... [ He almost goes with murder too but then some of his memories... maybe get kinda close. ] I guess kill a pet? That'd be awful.

[She glances over at her companion. The definition of stupidity (and insanity, she supposes) is that you continue to do the same thing over and over again, despite the results staying the same. This isn't working, so . . .]

I know a man who committed murder. But I haven't reported him. I have no intention of reporting him, either.

[It's not quite seen, but hopefully it counts.]

. . . and I've seen a fair few people shoplifting.

[ Ah... the hard stuff then. Kiryu goes stiff. The list of things he remembers now seems pretty long. He hasn't done anything too awful as far as he can picture, but he knows in his heart... he's not good.

He looks down. He'd been trying to keep it a secret. ]

I was a criminal, once. I don't remember how many things I've done or how many people I've hurt, but I went to jail on a murder I didn't commit. I took a killer's place and let him go free.

[ Yikes. Don't judge him, Ros. ]

[ all three shrouded statues move; their hands cross over their eyes. the stone tablet now reads "hear no evil". ]

[There'll be time enough later to think about that revelation, though Rosalind's eyes do widen as she glances over at him. But ah . . .]

Hear no evil.

[What evils has she heard that she's pretended not to? What evils has she heard of?]

There's my friend and his murder.

[She really shouldn't keep saying that as calmly as she does.]

I heard a friend from college planning to torment some teammate of his once, and did nothing.

[ Well, apparently they don't have to touch the statues at all. They just have to... air out their dirty laundry. Wonderful.

Kiryu frowns, but he's not going to just put the value of his secrets above what needs to be done. He'll do it. (And at the very least at least he knows Rosalind and Majima are close, so he's not telling a complete stranger.) ]

My boyfriend was a criminal, too. Here in Recolle, he stole things, cars, robbed places. His brother killed someone. He told me and I don't care. [ Kiryu... has way more secrets than one would think? The floodgates have opened, now. ] My dad, too. I like to pretend he's done nothing wrong and that he doesn't deserve to be in jail, but I heard him talking to his clients. I heard him on the phone all the time, talking to his clients. I knew his numbers didn't add up.

[ on the third side of the platform, the statues raise their hands to cover their ears. that leaves one side.

the tablet reads: speak no evil. ]

[And whereas she'd been just a little shocked at the revelation about Kiryu, Rosalind isn't surprised at all about the facts on Majima. But ah, that bit about his father . . .

Later, she thinks. For now: what evils has she seen but not spoken about?]

I slept with my assistant.

[Is that evil? It's certainly frowned upon, anyway, and it's something Ros has been struggling with all summer.]

And kept it to myself, though by all rights I should have told my superiors.

[She sure isn't looking at Kiryu right now.]

[ Now that's probably against regulation, isn't it. Kiryu never got involved with his teachers in college, but he's pretty sure that one's against the rules too. That said... ]

I won't tell anyone. About-- [ He can kinda guess it's Fawkes? But he can't be 100% sure, either. ] About that.

[ They can definitely talk later. About that. ]

And I didn't testify against my dad, back when he was on trial. I could have... but I would have lied on the stand. Saying it out loud would have meant I had to admit he was wrong.

[Oh, that's easy.]

I've said more than once that my undergraduates are idiots. I've happily insulted my friend's brother on multiple occasions, sometimes to his face and sometimes my friend. I've gossiped about my students to my assistant, up to and including viciously dressing down one particularly stupid and overdramatic one.

And I've lied many times about what it is I feel for said assistant.

[ Ironically, even after everything he's admitted, Kiryu's mostly an honest guy. Mostly. But he actually doesn't tend to talk about people behind their back? ]

I've played up my nicer memories to avoid talking about the harder ones. I've had people ask me if I remember what I used to do in my memories and... I've told them all I remember is being a real estate agent. I've lied to everyone except Majima and Yukine about that. Even to my cousin, I told him the tattoos were a coincidence. No one else knows I was in the Yakuza.

[ Goodness, but he does lie about those memories. ]

Uh, and I guess I've lied a lot at work lately, to my coworkers. I've called in sick to help Majima or just because I want to spend more time with him in bed.

[ the three remaining statues move their hands to cover their mouths. on the tablet, a silver key appears. as soon as either character picks it up, the room changes in a strange way; the sky and the statues seem to recede, until they are set into the walls. simple paintings, in a very boring room.

it seems this area is clear. they will probably need the key next week. ]
