VALENTINE'S DAY EVENT - BLIND DATING [OPEN]

WHO: Anyone and everyone! Even those who didn't sign up for the event!
WHERE: Anywhere in Recolle
WHEN: Valentine’s Day - Feb 14
WHAT: The log for the blind dates event! Awkward dates and disasters within.
WARNINGS: None!

It’s finally the fated day: Valentine’s.

Some of Recolle’s citizens might be going out, spending the day with their loved ones, while others might be sitting in bars, crying into their drinks. For a number of “lucky” ones, they might have gotten dragged into a blind date!

The Narukami twins have done their jobs. All the matches have been released. Partners have been assigned. Messages have been sent out. Now all that needs to happen are the actual dates. So, run free, everyone. The entire city is there to be their playground. They can go on their own respective dates, join up with other couples, spy on others, sabotage some, anything is fair game. After all, it’s not really fun if someone’s not crashing on another person’s party, right?

( ooc: As promised in the OOC sign-up post, here is the IC post for all the blind dates and related events to occur. This is an open mingle post, so multiple threads can happen anywhere and everywhere. Indicate if the thread is closed if you’d like to keep it private, however! Feel free to use the post as a general mingle as well. Anything is free game here! For any questions, please direct them over here and we’ll try to get back to you ASAP. Have fun! )
beastenderblood: (Well that's horrifying)

It all worked out!

No but for serious, once they're away from the horrified workers who probably didn't deserve all this, Vella is stopping Ryoga and checking every piece of him for injuries. Which doesn't make sense but jesus that was a lot.

"Good golly, are you alright?"
momentaryspring: (Ryoga: sigh)

"Yes," said Ryoga, clearing his throat a little for good measure. "More importantly, your cupcakes are safe."

Yes that was the important part. He thrust the passes at her. "Here. You can have these. I rarely come here, anyway."

Ryoga was outwardly fine, and apparently was taking all of this in stride...?
beastenderblood: (Huh. Weird.)

Ryoga.

"...Thank you Ryoga. That's... kind of you." She slowly grabs the passes, like she's afraid he's gonna fall over any second.

"So, I've now called you a dumbass and almost killed you with my cupcakes. Like, if you wanna bail, I'll get it." Because jesus dude, we're five minutes in and this was a lot.

"No, it's fine. We've gotten this far." Besides, in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't as though almost choking to death at the movie theater was all that out of the ordinary. It probably happened all the time. HA HA HA.

"Let's go see the movie. Although I admit I haven't seen any of the earlier installments."
beastenderblood: (Glad someone doesn't want me to die)

"Alright. As long as you're enjoying our date."

But she's gonna keep a goddamn close eye on him and be right next to him in case he slips on an empty soda can.

"I've seen a couple myself- Lieutenant US is pretty good."

Enjoying it? What an odd thing to worry about. After all, it was a blind date setup, and they'd both be lucky if they got out of the theater unscathed.

The previews were beginning as Ryoga picked his way among the seats and found a couple of empties. "You're not a bad baker, though I didn't have much time to taste that cupcake."

Vella's philosophy on life really came down to enjoyment. What results in the most fun? For herself, specifically. Which is probably why her sense of fun isn't impeded by sassing and beating up others.

"Oh, thanks. I'm from a big ol' baking family, so it comes with the territory."

"Really? You're the second girl I met lately who's into it. Your family doesn't run a professional bakery, does it?" Because that really would be a coincidence.

The previews had begun, and onscreen a human skull was crushed under the foot of a skeletal-looking robot shooting lasers and stalking past a store display. On its elbow, the robot carried several large paper shopping bags.

"Chopping Mall," the narrator was saying. "Where shopping costs you an arm and a leg!"

"Sure do. Tartine Treats downtown, its pretty rad." Gotta push the family business. "What was her business?"

Vella looks absolutely delighted with that trailer. "Oh that's metal."

"Homura Bakery. But they specialized in Japanese traditional sweets." Ryoga nibbled at another cupcake.

"Supposedly, that movie was having some issues with its rating. I believe I read that it was because of one scene where a woman's head explodes." The next preview seemed to be a run-of-the-will werewolves versus vampires movie.

Where did they come up with this stuff?

"Ohhh, gotcha." The business competitor.

She can't help but bark a laugh at that description. "Oh that sounds awesome. Brain splatter and everything?"

Werewolves are alright, but Vella is pretty disinterested in the vampires.

As the actual movie rolled around, Ryoga quieted down to watch, though a pair of teenagers several rows down were sporadically throwing popcorn at each other. There was also an older man a row or two down with a hacking cough, watching a predecessor film called Mssr Mordred on his cell phone. The current film was something of a remake of the original Mordred.

Frankly, all the mind-bending special effects were giving Ryoga a bit of a headache, and there was not enough punching. However, he did appreciate the action, and also offered Vella a cupcake (though presumably she knew what they tasted like, it only seemed fair since she had none).

There's only so much magic flinging a movie can do before you start to get bored. Plus the confusion of where the characters are and what they're doing in these mirror worlds gets... a little overwhelming.

So she pretty much zeroes in on those teens and old loser. People are watching a movie, punks. Maybe she should throw something at them.

Oh, a cupcake! "Thanks." A polite whisper.

One nice thing about the movie was the main protagonist was played by Lugh Lorrie, who rather than follow the original source material was instead depicting his character as a Vicodin-popping, cynical jerk of a former physician. He crabbed about, occasionally smacking someone with his cane instead of bothering to use the magic he'd been learning.

The teenagers were now alternately kicking each others' seats, though, which was kind of annoying. "Hey! Quiet down!"
