one. pumpkin patch princess

[ "game on!" is a chilren's activity center. more specifically, it's a children's activity center where rayne fairweather works, and they've got a pumpkin patch booth set up where kids (or adults, they're not picky) can come to paint or carve their own pumpkins, depending on age. rayne is doing a mixture of both, a curving design of flowers decorating the smiling face of her jack-o-lantern.

obviously every pumpking she does is happy rather than spooky.

so just as obviously she has a pile of candy beside her, in a variety of flavors. her "favorite" is "everything!!!!!" and as she finishes her latest artistic masterpiece she enthusiastically lifts the lid and pours out...even more candy.

good god. she's figured out how to game the pumpkin system. when you spot her collecting Way Too Much Sugar she beams, waving at the pumpkin. ]

Isn't this the best type of magic???

[ she's gonna get cavities at this rate. ]

two. the missing links

[ rayne can be found loitering around wiffle-waffle if you'd like to grab her for an item quest before she gets infected by like. everyone she loves and adores. thanks guys!!!! ]

three. monster mash

[ chronologically the first virus rayne gets hit with is the mummy strain. what does this mean? well. at night she looks gaunt and instead of extra bandage appendages? yeah, her hair is moving with a will of it's own, occasionally wrapping around her arms or neck or what have you in a mimickry of traditional mummy's bandages. then comes the merperson strain, with sharp teeth in a double-line and a fondness for water, iridescent scales going up her legs rather like fancy leggings, and creeping up her neck out from under her dress. third she gets hit with the harpy strain, her feet hooking into talons and not quite managing to pass themselves off as cute heels. those are definitely just bird talons. she's still changing, though not just now, but that's as far as she's gone for this prompt.

so the thing about the mummy strain she has? it makes her VENGEFUL, willing to chase down wrong doers! but the thing about the personality she has in general mixing with this at the start?

yeah. so. if you happen to litter, either on accident or on purpose, there will be a NEFARIOUS HISS as some long blonde hair wraps around your wrist and a VENGEFUL rayne stands there in all her monstrous glory, to say: ]

Pick that up! There's a trashcan right over there.

[ she can also be found getting VENGEFUL about other minor infractions such as jaywalking, not putting your grocery cart back in the cart corral thing, or failing to wipe your feet off before you enter some indoors location and tracking in mud.

she's got this monster thing down PAT. ]

b. singalongs
[ or maybe you hear a lovely song near the beach or the park fountain? rayne can be found sitting on a Scenic Rock at the beach or on the park fountain's edge singing to herself.

or, you know, LURING someone to her RUDELY. ]

[ it's her first memory, and the song loops in her head sometimes. ]

c. shiny that's mine
[ or maybe you've dropped, like, a penny. or something shiny. a treasured locket? a pen with one of those silver cappy things? if it gets dropped too near to rapunzel she'll immediately pick it up, clutching it to her chest and looking Determined if you come closer. ]

It's mine! [ it is not, but it's probably minor enough to let her have it...unless it's an IMPORTANT shiny thing. ]

KURT: FRYING PAN SCRAMBLE

[ okay, so. it's before rayne's infection and she's currently aware there are monster but also super aware she...does not have superpowers? clearly she will be getting her laser vision next month, but for now she pretty much has Fuck All in her skillset.

she DOES have a memory of knocking a dude out with a frying pan, however, so she very politely borrowed a frying pan from her cousin and when she has to go out late at night? she's gripping it firmly.

it...probably looks a little weird, a teenaged girl walking down the street holding onto a cooking utensil like it will save her life or something.

this sure would be a bad time to meet a monster! or a monster lookalike. ]

[It sure would be! With all of the weirdness spreading around, Kurt is trying to patrol around and see what he can do to help out. Wearing his X-Men spandex and a domino mask, he's also looking generally very blue, furry and demon-y.

He happened to be coming out of an alley nearby when he noticed the familiar girl walking along - alone and looking troubled, with only some kind of frying pan in her hand. Was she in trouble? Could someone be pursuing her? Kurt felt like he had to act fast!

So, with a bamf, he teleports right in front of her.]

Hi-! [He calls out quickly in greeting. He's about to say more, but I imagine he won't get the chance to!]

[ the thing is?? kurt looks terrifying? he's all blue and fuzzy and MONSTER-ESQUE and monsters have been chasing people and so.

she immediately swings the frying pan to CLANG!!! him.

DRACO: A MISSING PIECE OF SUNLIGHT

[ one of the most important things in the world to rayne is the pendant that she got with her sister, lucille. it's a sunburst when both halves are pressed together, and she's worn it faithfully every day for years.

but when she's running away from one of the unfortunately monster'd retrospec users (she escapes this time, thankfully) rayne finds that the comforting pendant at her neck isn't there when she reflexively reaches up to play with it.

exhaustion turns to horror and derek may come across an increasingly worried blonde searching the ground in the early evening. ]

[Derek is floating around the city, just looking for someone to talk to. It's lonely being a ghost. He hears a girl and she sounded upset. He follows her voice until he sees a girl with long blonde hair. He floats right up behind her and curves around to look at her face.]

since they have by now learned they have to head to pesgare, rayne is happily enjoying her first jaunt outside of the city...even if the reason they're going is less than cheerful. still, she gives elliot a puzzled look as they wander water-ward. ]

What's a hippocampus? I thought it was a muscle. Or is it a fancy hippo?

[Rayne is not the only person hanging out on the beach today, though she's certainly the most fishy. Penelope has been more or less hanging out there during the day, an umbrella to keep off the sun and a large cooler of food and drink, just hanging out being a glutton. She can't help it, being hungry all the time kinda goes with the problems she's facing.

Settled in, playing music from her laptop, she's been out there since about noon and it's getting on towards late afternoon when she hears a song. Not one she recognizes...but the voice she does recognize. Climbing to her feet, she starts walking towards the Scenic Rock, humming in harmony with Rayne's song.

When she approaches, it's apparent she's infected, herself. Small glowing lumps line her shoulder and back, pulsing with bioluminescent light like a deep-sea fish. The rest is a bit more subtle, the nature of her infections less apparent, though if Rayne looks closely, she'll see that there's a faint shimmer to her skin, and little spined ridges growing out a few centimeters from atop her ears.]

That's really nice, Rayne.

although she's also not fully 100% aware that the infections can mix and match, or she might be a little more cautious. but then again, maybe not. she's too friendly for her own good. ] I remembered it the other day - but I don't remember what it's from...

[It's not like Penelope is frightening, either way. Coming in at 5'3" tops, and maybe 120 lbs wet, she's more...cute...than anything. Plus there's the family angle.]

It came out of the blue? Then it's something tied to your past life. I've had a lot of memories like that, personally. Though, not a whole song yet. Can you sing it for me again? Maybe it'll jar something loose for me.

[ if only akutagawa were as positive and skilled in the art of candy exploitation as rayne... the only reason he's here is for a photoshoot, his staff mistakenly thinking the little red horns on top of his head, the pair of small bat-like wings, and the slender tail with a little spade at the tip are part of some cutesy costume he's wearing-- so, there are a gaggle of photographers following him around, much to his chagrin. if only this were an embarrassing costume and not some weird std-curse thing. akutagawa sort of wishes he looked cooler and more intimidating, like everyone else. why are there literal werewolves with claws and shit while he's over here looking like some kind of gay baby nerd?? UGH.

needless to say, akutagawa has never carved a pumpkin until now. even with the photographers guiding him, he's mostly staring at the pumpkin in his hands, turning it around as if observing the logistics of it, stabbing it-- just looking pathetic all around. these aren't going to make for very interesting photos...

thankfully someone notices rayne and all her spoils-- the endless mounds of candy, the beautiful and expertly carved and painted pumpkins... the staff member kindly approaches her, explaining the situation. their little star is too stupid to carve a pumpkin and is just being a little pissant about the whole process, so if she would be willing to lend them a hand, it would be appreciated.

akutagawa just insisted he knew what he was doing and is attempting to carve out the pumpkin's eyes without hollowing it out first.......please save him from himself ]

[ rayne, at least, definitely doesn't mind helping out. she's there to help out children mostly but...akutagawa looks like he sure could use, uh, a lot of help? she almost skips over and beams at him, way too friendly for her own good always and assuming he's wearing a costume as well. ]

[ that said it's mostly based on 3-A and can just be that if not, because Natalia, seeing that most recent display from Rayne is actually surprised on one level, but pleased on another. She laughs, clapping lightly to see the other putting on a display like that. It's impressive, if she's honest.

This far into things, the main things showing for Natalia are red feathers poking around in her hair and around her neck, snake-like eyes (though still red!), that she's not wearing her left prosthetic arm, and that her fingers on the right hand are webbed.

... So she would clap, but. You know. ]

[ it doesn't actually matter to rayne that natalia looks monstrous right now - after all, it's still natalia. even if there's any part of her that thinks maybe she should go (maybe there's a danger of further infection) it's still the girl she grew up with, looking up to, and rayne brightens up immediately and skips over to her cousin. ]

Thanks!! I just hate it when people make a mess...there's trash cans pretty much everywhere!

well, someone besides him. of course he'd figure it out. his favorite is konpeito, so naturally the one he made is filled to the brim with it... and then some. rayne has an incredibly assortment of it though, he's scooting closer, uwoah— ]

It really is...♪ I was, um, really worried that something really bad would happen this month, what with the really ominous message we got at the beginning of it...? But if this is all, then it's actually pretty neat... ♪

[ they both need to be stopped. arrested by the sugar police. or a roving horde of renegade dentists. they're going to get cavities??? and like, probably sugar highs. where are their parents!!

rayne just beams when tsukasa scoots closer, though, unaware that he is in fact the other member of the SUITS GANG, apparently two candy addicts. ]

Maybe they're just worried about cavities! [ no. the knowledge that cavities exist does not in any way impact how much of this candy she plans to eat, why do you ask? ]

[Vera had been at a food stall, painfully overdressed with a parasol slung over her shoulder. It did it's best to protect her pale skin from the harsh sun, but what little sunlight did touch the girl revealed a type of radiance that positively sparkled, both figuratively and literally.

The short girl moved to pay for her snack when a handful of change dropped from her wallet and scattered on the ground. Normally she wouldn't care much about something so trivial, but when the blonde descends upon the coins, she gives an irritated grunt. Who would be so depraved as to make a fool of themselves over loose change?

But then she gets a closer look at the girl, dark eyes following the lines of her face, and a cool smile crawls onto her face. Maybe she can make some fun of this.]
