[ Mao's trying to scout a good location for his air guitar, uh, concert? Performance anyway, and it needs to be somewhere with a lot of people, so Freshens seems like a good place to consider. The more he walks around, though, the more it seems like he'd be more of a disruption here than entertainment. Plus, people are here to spend money on food, not fake music.

Luckily he's not completely without something to do--when he mentioned where he was going, his mom gave him her shopping list, too, so rather than slaying on air guitar, he's tugging a shopping cart free from the line of them in the corral. ]

[ Freshens is totally the place to be! If you need to shop, and who doesn't need to shop? It's got everything to fulfill all your daily needs and even more things that you don't need. That's what makes it the perfect all-in-one stop shop! It also happens to be Yosuke's part-time job, though he usually finds himself in the grocery section. (His least favorite.)

It's also unfortunately one of the locations of his bingo sheet. Actually, Yosuke is almost certain that it's on purpose and that just pisses him off more. Jim realizes he could get fired, right? Ugh, so unfair.

But he's getting close to a bingo, too...

He is lucky that as he's just returning a few stray cards to the main car corral, he sees someone he recognizes. ]

Oh, hey there! Long time no see.

[ Well, not actually, but Mao is a decent guy so Yosuke feels comfortable joking a bit with his greeting. ]

[ Jim probably does realize and he almost certainly doesn't care. It's hard for Mao to believe Jim is a real person sometimes and not just an AI built out of bad intentions.

He looks up when he hears a familiar voice, then smiles. ]

Hey, Yosuke! I didn't know you worked here. [ Unless the nametag is a personal thing but Mao's pretty sure he'd've noticed it before. ]

[ Can AI have bad intentions? Can they truly mimic the perverted and skewed desires of humanity to see others suffer through acts of embarrassment? Yosuke doesn't think so. He fully believes Jim is a real person--he's just a dick. ]

Haha, yep. The glamorous life of a part-timer.

[ Yosuke slides the carts along with the rest. ]

What're you up to?

[ Though he doesn't take his hand off the handlebar of the last cart... ]

Looking for anything in particular?

[ That's the more reasonable explanation, of course, but it's hard to maintain faith in humanity when one of them is so... Jim. ]

Beats being broke all the time. [ He's considered looking for an actual job but then the con came up for this summer. Maybe for Christmas money.

When Yosuke asks if Mao's looking for anything specific, he holds up his list. ]

I was going to try to do a bingo square but I changed my mind so instead I'm just shopping. Pretty regular stuff. Bread, eggs, paper towels... what do you know about vegetables?

It's true. I do have a little cash to burn.

[ Which he is actually fairly decent at saving. Being responsible with your money isn't very cool, though. ]

Vegetables? I actually spend most of my time in produce. I could help you out...

[ So he's doing bingo too...hm? ]

I've been thinking about getting a job but the summer's gotten kind of hectic. Maybe closer to Christmas though!

[ Because money is cool and Mao would very much like to be cool.

He's about to head to the produce section when he stops. Help? ]

Well if you want an in, I can totally give you a recommendation! It can get pretty crazy, especially during the holidays, so they're always looking for more people.

[ Plus it would be cool to actually like friendly talk to one of his co-workers?? So many of them he just kind of passes by... ]

[ Oh just do it, Yosuke. ]

Okay this is really weird, but--I'm doing that bingo thing and...because Jim is an asshole, I have to give someone a ride. In a shopping cart.

[ ... that's so cool?! Mao perks right up. ]

Seriously? That'd be great! Do you work here during school too?

[ Because he needs something else on his plate, but it'd be great to work with someone he likes, and he likes Yosuke.

Likes him enough that he doesn't even give him a weird reaction when he asks him to ride in a shopping cart. In fact, he laughs a little. ]

Dude, I have to do yoga at Munch & Crunch. This is nothing. But... [ No more laughing. ]

It's not going to get you in trouble though, is it?

Yeah dude, totally! I'm here all year, I just pick up more hours during the summer. I know the manager on the grocery side pretty well, too, so I could definitely be your in.

[ THE MORE THE MERRIER, BUDDY!

Yoga? Ugh, that's gotta be weird. Do you have to wear the pants and everything?

[ He doesn't do yoga, he just assumes that it's all girls. Which may be nice if he gets to watch them? ]

Well...yeah, it might. But I wanna know what Retrospec is up to, so if we're like...discreet it shouldn't be too bad, right?

[ Not at all. ]

That would be so cool. Just let me check at home but maybe starting sooner after the convention wouldn't be so bad.

[ Mao visibly cringes at the idea of wearing yoga pants. ]

I hope not, I already have to spend money on Jim's registry if I want to get that square. I'm just going to look up some poses and do them as fast as I can, hopefully without anybody seeing me.

[ No standing on his head for five minutes and hopefully minimal time with his butt in the air.

Mao hums a little at Yosuke's comment about Retrospec. ]

I hadn't really thought of it that way, I figured this was just busy work like getting a worksheet when you thought you were just getting to watch a movie. What do you think they could want out of bingo cards? And I promise not to yell or draw attention as long as you don't crash me into anything.

[ These bingo squares are definitely taking a toll on Yosuke's wallet too. ]

Oh man, I had to do that one too! Like, what's with this guy? We're not made out of money. But I hope that works out for you.

[ Yosuke sure as hell wouldn't want to be doing that one. ]

I don't know...I'm not gonna pretend that I think it's gonna be good, but I feel like we need to know as much as we can about them and their motivs. So...yeah, that leads me to asking someone to let me push them around in a shopping cart. Heh.

[ What is life... ]

[ Yosuke looks around as a customer comes by to pick up one of the carts. ]

Okay...let's see...

[ Yosuke pulls out one of the carts and motions for Mao to follow him, away from the main cart corral and around a corner towards the elevators. ]

Should we go into the parking lot? Might be more space.

If you see me on the news getting arrested for doing something weird in public, at least you can know that I got the square.

[ Of course he doesn't really think the yoga thing will get him arrested or he wouldn't do it, but the Munch & Crunch people are probably going to be pretty fed up with yoga by the end of the month. ]

That... makes sense. I feel kind of stupid for just doing the bingo without really thinking about it or what it's contributing to but there's got to be a reason, huh? [ Not that he blames Yosuke for that; if anything it's the opposite. ]

Don't worry about it, but if you are, it'll be evened out if I end up getting a job here. And yeah, that's probably for the best. Do you need to tell anybody you're going out or is this all right?

[ Again, glad to help but not if it gets Yosuke fired. ]

At least you wouldn't be the only one.

[ To think that about 6 months ago the things they're doing right now would probably be newsworthy. But nope, not anymore. Not with how the world is turning upside down. ]

Yeah. That's what I keep telling myself, at least. I wouldn't write off Jim being into it for shits and giggles, but there's so much that's fishy going on...

[ He sure hopes that there's more reason to it. Otherwise he's going to feel like an idiot. ]

I was just rounding up stray carts in the parking lot, so it's not like they expect me in the store right now.

[ They're kind off of to the side now, with few cars. Yosuke looks back and forth. ]

Alright, hop in!

Nah, jail'd probably be pretty crowded, which is why it should be fine.

[ He's pretty sure from talking to his brother that the cops have better things to do, too, but you never know. ]

I never thought it was all a joke, not really, but it does seem pretty suspicious. Even if it is busy work, it could be a distraction from something else they're doing. That'd made sense.

[ It could've been just a game and that's sort of how Mao saw it until just now. Doesn't mean he's going to stop with his card but it's got a different feel to it now.

Even though Yosuke led them somewhere relatively out of the way, Mao still copies that gesture in looking around before he hops into the cart. It takes a little maneuvering for him to get seated but he manages it, squeezed up tightly in the body of the cart. ]

There we go. Go for it!

[ Has he met Mako? Mao should meet Mako. Yosuke basically became friends with the guy after Mako threatened to arrest him. It was fun. (It wasn't fun, at least for Yosuke.) ]

Yeah...well, I guess we'll just have to hope that the worst they can do is make fun of our results here.

[ Famous last words right there. Remind him of this after August, buddy.

Still, the cart thing is the kind of thing that would objectively be fun if Yosuke didn't work at Freshens. He might find it a little exciting, though. They're definitely too old for this, but oh well. Time to go all out! ]

Alright, hold on!

[ And OFF they go! Yosuke starts running, needing a bit of a build up, but once he gets a good speed, the weight of the cart along with the force of his run really pick up speed. ]

[ Mako sounds like a treat. Mao's not keen to test the limits of the Recolle PD's nepotism tolerance. ]

That's my hope now, yeah. Send some embarrassing videos around the office, maybe slip some pictures into the yearbook next year and leave it at that.

[ Not even Mao is naive enough to think that's all it's going to be, though, not anymore.

Mao braces his hands on the edge of the cart as they start to take off and hey, with the momentum of the two of them they're actually picking up some pretty decent speed! ]
