Look, Tatsuo knows he's not dealing with August appropriately. And frankly, he kind of hates himself for dealing with it this way. Like, really hates himself. He knows he should ask for help, but he's never been big on asking for help in the first place. Beecause it's 'working' for now, at least, that's what he tells himself, even though it's like putting a bandaid on a wound that needs stitches.
[ OOC: If you have CR with Tatsuo and would like for your character to run into him at a bar, feel free to whip up a starter. Otherwise, this is a closed log. Also, restricted to characters 21+. Tatsuo does work with police after all. ]

Now and then. I've gotten to hear a few bands before they were really big this way.
[though... he rather doubts that applies to 90's revival bands]

[ Kath says this as she lowers her menu. She's currently judging in her mind whether or not she should get a drink as she says this, wondering if she'll be able to handle herself. ]
Before we start drinking, how did you get here?
no subject
[oh, hey, they have deep fried pickles on the menu]
How'd I get here? Uber. Makes it a lot easier to get home afterwards.
no subject
[ Yeah ok she'll probably get a drink with uber on the table here. ]
Good to know. I usually take uber or the bus whenever I need to get somewhere.
no subject
[he closes the drinks menu]
See anything you like?
no subject
[ She shrugs at his second comment, not 100% sure what to get. She's sort of sick of beer for the time being. ]
I'm not sure. What are you planning to get?
no subject
[ooc: rofl they somehow ended up talking about cars/transportation in two separate places, i'm dropping that line of convo here so i don't go and confuse myself]
I usually get an Americano. They don't always list it, but they usually have the ingredients.
no subject
I might give that a shot then. I usually get beer or something along those lines, so a change once in awhile would be nice.
no subject
Too bad this place doesn't carry sake. I was introduced to that recently and it's pretty nice.
[Tatsuo flips to the food portion of the menu. Best get some snacks so he alcohol doesn't hit him too hard.]
Want to get anything to eat while we're at it?
no subject
[ And how much do you need to drink to get drunk from it? ]
Probably.....Hmmm, these sliders look good.
no subject
Uh... there's probably about as much variety as there is in other types of alcohol. I had what I've been told is decent quality sake here. It was kind of peach flavored, which was interesting. It's in the same range as wine for ABV, so more than beer, but less than hard liquor.
[Then he snorts.]
Other me had some cheap sake. Kind of rough going down, but I'd still drink it over beer I think.
[Tatsuo flags down a waiter and orders two Americanos, the sliders, and some nachos]

She goes a little quiet when he brings up his "other self", the wording bringing up a certain feeling in her memories. Biting her lip, she can't help but wonder what it was her counterpart was drinking. For a brief second, Katherine's gaze is one of a person lost in thought, looking out in a direction with no intended focus.
Fortunately, Tatsuo ordering manages to get her attention. ]
Oh, thanks.
no subject
[Now Tatsuo is wondering if those little cups of sake even exist in this reality and if they're sold anywhere in Recolle.]
no subject
[ That would be a rather interesting experiment.
But now her thoughts are steering towards the woman her memories are coming from, and steering towards that feeling of separation. The people around her, the humans, feel...far, in a sense, not in distance, but in...some other way. Katherine attempts to drown it out with the music, but the feeling just persists.
Soon she turns her head to her companion for another distraction. ]
I never really got to ask you, but were you born in Recolle or did you just come here at some point?
no subject
[A song he remembers from middle school starts up and Tatsuo gets distracted momentarily, not noticing that Katherine is a little distracted herself. He almost misses her question, but it came during a natural break in the music.]
Oh, I was born here. My mom was from Japan and came to Recolle not long before I was born. So I've lived here all my life.
no subject
[ What was it like seeing everything you've grown up with change around you? ]
no subject
[ooo check it, the waiter brought over their drinks!
Tatsuo takes a sip of his before he answers]
It was normal? I mean, up until I got the app in May I didn't think anything was odd. I grew up learning about the Founders, but it was just your boring local history. You turned it out for the most part. I don't remember weird shit happening, and even if it did, I wouldn't have thought it weird because I was still asleep. So it's super weird for me now, because this isn't some city in a sci-fi show. It's just... home for me.
no subject
[ As she says this Katherine takes her drink and sips at it, savoring the bittersweet taste and the buzz of the alcohol. Tatsuo defiantly knows good drinks. ]
I can only imagine what it was like when it started changing. I've only been here for a few years now, so I guess I don't have it as deeply ingrained as you do. I mean, if this happened when I was back in San Francisco I might, but here...I'm still a bit of a new comer.
no subject
[Tatsuo shrugs.]
Honestly, it was probably similar to how it was for more recent residents. We were all asleep until we got the app. I didn't notice the whole chocobo thing until May, even though the change happened before that. But seeing each new change now, and seeing the way the people I've known for years continue to be oblivious to it all...
[Tatsuo takes a long sip of his drink.]
I think that's probably the weirdest thing for me. All the people I know off the app, still trapped in the illusion.
no subject
Its a scary thought, what with how everyone seemed to be ignoring the monsters and didn't even notice the app or its changes. Now more and more people I know are getting pulled into this: students, a couple professors, just people who up until a month ago had no idea what was going on.
[ Its a weird sort of paradox: On one hand, she's glad she's not as alone, but on the other, its scary knowing people you care for and love, her students, her coworkers, her sister, are being pulled into this.
That distress earns another sip. ]
no subject
Yes, and you're torn between being happy you can now tell them about all the weird shit they've been missing and mad that they've now been pulled into said weird shit.
[Tatsuo knocks back more of his drink]
I had my best friend, my little brother-slash-coworker, and another close friend [slash exgirlfriend slash best friend's exgirlfriend] get added this month. It has been... a trip explaining everything to them.
[oh look, his drink is gone... Tatsuo flags down a waiter to ask for a second one]
no subject
I'm sorry thats happened to you. [ She backs hers as well, basically emptying it passing her glass off for another drink. ]
I've...had a few people close to me pulled into this as well. Two people I know were nearly killed or badly injured during all the fighting. [ Alcohol tends to have quicker affect on her mood, regardless of how shitty it is: thus she's a tiny bit more loose-lipped at the moment. ]
no subject
Oh god, are they alright? Now, I mean?
[now that over a week has passed since the last monster was dispatched]
It kind of makes me think we should have some sort of plan in place. For the next time the city goes haywire on us.
no subject
And they really are. Last she saw her Lucy, she was piloting a giant robot kitten, and Magilou was...Magilou, which Katherine was starting to realize she was very fine with her in her book.
Still, she'd nearly lost a lot of people she cared about: both ones she's known for awhile and ones she'd grown close to in more recent times. ]
Some sort of system in place wouldn't be bad, especially with how there's a good possibility this is only the tip of the iceberg.

But at the same time, non-combatants got roped in either way. Kind of feels like all we can do is train up the fighters as much as possible, so that even if non-combatants are forced to participate we'd do better at protecting them along the way.
