VALENTINE'S DAY EVENT - BLIND DATING [OPEN]

WHO: Anyone and everyone! Even those who didn't sign up for the event!
WHERE: Anywhere in Recolle
WHEN: Valentine’s Day - Feb 14
WHAT: The log for the blind dates event! Awkward dates and disasters within.
WARNINGS: None!

It’s finally the fated day: Valentine’s.

Some of Recolle’s citizens might be going out, spending the day with their loved ones, while others might be sitting in bars, crying into their drinks. For a number of “lucky” ones, they might have gotten dragged into a blind date!

The Narukami twins have done their jobs. All the matches have been released. Partners have been assigned. Messages have been sent out. Now all that needs to happen are the actual dates. So, run free, everyone. The entire city is there to be their playground. They can go on their own respective dates, join up with other couples, spy on others, sabotage some, anything is fair game. After all, it’s not really fun if someone’s not crashing on another person’s party, right?

( ooc: As promised in the OOC sign-up post, here is the IC post for all the blind dates and related events to occur. This is an open mingle post, so multiple threads can happen anywhere and everywhere. Indicate if the thread is closed if you’d like to keep it private, however! Feel free to use the post as a general mingle as well. Anything is free game here! For any questions, please direct them over here and we’ll try to get back to you ASAP. Have fun! )

Hopefully Chloe isn't too close to the door , because a few minutes later, Peridot positively throws it open, looking out of breath like she'd ran all the way - because, as it so happened, she had. For all the times her scooter to blow a tire...

She spots Chloe nearly immediately, and straightens like a rod. She hadn't had any idea what to expect from their date. Chloe was nice enough, but since when was Peridot interested in nice people? What if she wanted to go to an art museum or the opera? What about the advice Jade had given her? What if Peridot is too charming?

Slowly, like she's pedaling a bike in her brain, she looks over at Chloe and squeaks, "Hi!" Before reaching into her jeans pocket for a folded up piece of paper. Yes, jeans, but at least she managed to put on a button-up blouse as well.

"Um...this is for you?" Thoughtful gifts are a part of a date, right? So she holds out the piece of paper. "It's a picture of us overtaking the world!"

The door missed Chloe by about six inches, which caused her to jump back with a start and stare almost aghast. Seeing the girl there, panting in the entrance like that made the dark-haired florist almost wide-eyed, coughing into her hand while she tried to make sense out of the situation. Well, she'd definitely expected this to be interesting on some level, hadn't she? At least there hadn't been fireworks yet.

"Hello to you!" she said in that light, confused accent, blinking and feeling her pulse start to slow down slowly. She reached out a dubious hand to take the gift from Peridot's hand and offer some chocolate truffles in the process. "And... uh, these are for you as well. Minako was making them, so I brought a couple... and..."

Elephant, room. "You did not just run all the way here, did you?" What did this picture look like?

The keyword is always "yet" when Peridot's involved.

As she continues to catch her breath, Peridot takes a few of the chocolate truffles. Food? Food is an acceptable gift for a date?! If she'd known that, she would have brought them a bag of Doritos to share. "I see! I'm sure you are a competent baker and these won't give me food poisoning for sure." She grins. It's supposed to be a honest compliment, even if she doesn't know anything about Chloe's baking skills. Geez, this is already hard.

"No, no, not all the way here! Just from where my bike broke down." She wilts just a hair at that.

The picture, for it's part, looks like a drawing of Peridot and Chloe frolicking across a diminutive Earth while some smaller stick figures are bowing or are on fire. Oh, dear, that's a little violent.

"This is... lovely, thank you," she said, smiling in the way that mothers smiled when they put macaroni drawings of Godzilla destroying peasants on the refrigerator. Slightly disturbed, but ... proud?

It was probably for the best that she hadn't thought of food in that case. Chloe smiled and laughed at that. "I've tried a few myself. Minako did a wonderful job making them," she said, trying not to look a little horrified at the thought. "And I sincerely hope that your bike is properly secured. I wouldn't want you to have had too much trouble because of me."

She motioned once the hostess came up. It seemed that their table was waiting, having nothing to do with the disturbed looks of a few of their fellow patrons. Nothing at all. Chloe was now convinced that this would be an insane disaster.

Peridot grins at Chloe's approval. It was a good drawing - she knew that. She's just relieved her date had the common sense to see that as well!

"Oh, the bike'll be fine. I sent my roomba-copter to take it back to my apartment," she says matter-of-factly, like there's nothing unusual at all with this statement. She trots after the hostess next to Chloe, perfectly unaware of any stares she may be garnering as she goes.

"Most people think roombas are only good for cleaning your room, but that's where most people are wrong! Um - what do you think about roombas?"

Roomba Copter? She knew what a roomba was, and had one in her apartment. Privately, she made a mental note to hide it if she ever brought Peridot home for a visit of any sort. That would almost certainly end poorly for the roomba. The idea of a roomba copter, after all, was a little odd.

"I would think it would not be strong enough to lift an entire bike? But they are useful to have around?" she said as they were being led towards their seats and put up in a small booth, tucked away where their conversation wouldn't disturb anyone else. The Maitre de wasn't going to take any chances. Chloe asked for water and turned towards Peridot with a bit of curiosity.

"You like to transform anything electric, do you not?"

"Oh, it's not just one roomba. It's several of them working together in a little fleet of drones!" There are few things that Peridot cherishes more than the sight of robots working together to do her bidding. It almost brings a tear to her eye.

Peridot slides into her seat, perfectly slouchy but somehow hunched at the same time, like a lazy cat ready to spring. "And I'll take a Mountain Dew with Mountain Berry Powerade. Just do it!" She adds as the waitress gives her a quizzical look and retreats.

"Oh sure, but why stop there? There's plenty of fun to be had transforming mechanical and chemical things as well! I like when I can combine all three. Most people are content to master one form of engineering, but not me!" She drums her fingers absently on the table. Fortunately, talking about herself comes pretty naturally to her. It's when she has to do not that that she struggles.

... oh, well, that made sense? But it did create the thought of countless roomba flying through the air with a scooter beneath them. That visual was definitely unusual, wasn't it? She blinked at it and then put it out of her mind for the moment. "Yes, perhaps with enough it would have the power."

"And I suppose that you might be right there. I am not especially skilled outside of botany, so I would not know much," she said, shaking her head. "But how do you mix something of the chemical with the mechanical? Does that not end badly usually?"

[personal profile] gemgineer 2017-03-02 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Why yes, it usually does!" And she sounds completely ecstatic about it. For her, even an experiment gone wrong is an experiment gone right, because theory can only take one so far sometimes. If she wants real answers, she has to test things, and well.

Explosions are quite a bit of fun.
true_noir: (Ummmm...?)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-03-02 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"You say that so enthusiastically. What is good about an experiment gone wrong, if I may ask?" Chloe said, her eyes widening a little. Peridot was ... well, if she was being honest, she was starting to think the girl might be a little touched in the head, or perhaps a lot touched in the head.

"Is it not hazardous?"

[personal profile] gemgineer 2017-03-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Because that's the most surefire way to know that something doesn't work, obviously! And come on. Isn't that obvious? What's the fun of science if there isn't a little risk of losing life or limb involved?" She grins, rather maniacally. Not everyone understands her methods, but she doesn't care. It'd taught her a lot more than her governess ever had while she was growing up - not that she's about to get into that with Chloe.

"You can't spell hazardous without 'do'!"

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-03-07 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"I... have never heard that spoken of in quite that term. I must say that at the very least, you are extremely brave." It was the most positive spin she could manage under the circumstances. Peridot certainly didn't have any healthy fear of her own mortality, now did she?

"Now, what is it that you hope to learn from these experiments, other than if the machine works properly? And have you ever considered this program, battle bots?" She'd seen a single episode. It seemed right up someone's alley.
