WHAT: Majima regains losing an eye but he's going to keep doing all his normal stuff to prove he's just fine. Prompt highlights include: playing mahjong! fighting dudes (poorly)! working! and a bonus mmorpg prompt. Some people just have an eclectic taste, what can I say?

Prologue (read this and then choose your own adventure from below)

[ Sometimes it's hard to know what to do in situations, especially once you got past the "things I need to do to take care of myself." Like if you wake up one morning and you're suddenly missing an eye, there's certain things you need to do. Make sure you're not still bleeding, try and cope with the fact you're blind on one side. He goes to the drug store to buy an eyepatch to keep people from having to look at that mess. He calls Kiryu, because that feels like a thing he's supposed to do. And then...

The biggest question in is mind is how he's supposed to warn everyone. What, send out a mass text btw i lost an eye don't panic and receive back a million panicked texts? No thanks. On the other hand, not saying anything and showing up to meet someone seems like its ripe for a slew of why didn't you tell me this before, which becomes increasingly more real the longer he goes without seeing people. It was the sort of thing people wanted to know so they could be worried. But Majima didn't want the fuss.

Finally, he decides to just keep going on with his life. Given the discussions he'd had with Kiryu, the lack of an eye thing was clearly part of his old life, so it's not like he stopped living. Or stopped fighting. Or stopped doing any of the important shit he did. Besides, he can't even remember what happened to it in the first place. No use crying over spilled milk...

Thus, he resolves to go about his week in the manner he is most accustomed to and you can find him around town, treating everything like it's Just Fine, in one of the following places:]

Mahjong @ The Asian Community Center

[Majima has to admit, regaining Japanese had made playing Mahjong ten times better. For one, he doesn't have to keep second guessing himself on the tiles when they don't have western numbers printed on them and that's pretty sweet. Plus, now he can gossip with the Japanese aunties.

The NPC aunties are pretty shocked about the state of his face but he waves them off and lies and says he fell or something, and besides, he can still play Mahjong so that's all that matters. He's just as enthusiastic, enjoys himself just as much.

If you happened to stop by the Asian community center for some reason other than Mahjong, maybe you'll get to see him hanging with the aunties and playing, or maybe you were invited after talking with him about it so he can teach you. Watch out, though, because they'll give you a real run for your money. Maybe you should ask to play in pennies or just chips.]

Fighting @ Utsuki Dojo

[Easily the most frustrating thing about this is what it does to his ability to fight. He can't go participate in cage matches like this because he'll get his ass kicked. He didn't regain the ability to do things with skewed depth perception and a blind side, only the fact that now he's got those issues.

At least he can go to the dojo where Tatsuo works. He doesn't go regularly, but he's been off and on quite a bit over the years - mostly to visit Tatsuo. It's a good place to spar with someone and work on actual technique instead of just the half-technique half-punch people really hard that he fights with in his matches.

What he really needs is sparring partners. Someone who will try to put him on the floor and won't baby him because of his missing eye. He's gotta learn how to fight in spite of it, how to keep it from being a weakness.

He's determined, at least. And that's a key trait in a time like this.]

Let's Shine Our Best @ Club Sunshine

[If Goro Majima looked like a punk in a tux before he lost his eye, he looks even worse now. Like he's a little out of place in his classy club, a thug who is probably a bouncer and definitely not the owner. Majima can't very well stop working, and he can't just give up and give into expectations. As with most things in his life, he figures if he just tries to handle it and acts like everything is fine it will be. Pushing through things has always been his preferred form of taking care of situations, and this is no exception. If anything, he's resolved to be more charming and more polite like he's aiming for "exceeds expectations" marks.

His coworkers can run into him before they open for the evening, working just as hard as ever to get things ready not a care about his new eyepatch. He won't shy away from talking about it, but he's definitely not bringing it up himself! This may not be the best way to deal with this, but it's his way of dealing with this.

Of course customers will meet him under different circumstances. He'll try not to break his business-character with anyone, but maybe a situation like this is worth actually talking about. Maybe...

No matter what, though, they're all going to shine on together. Having the right attitude is definitely key here.]

BONUS: Last Fantasy XIV

[It's funny, the way how things develop. How a stranger on Retrospec can ask you to play an MMORPG that you say you won't get that deep into but then a few months later you're part of an Free Company and leading new friends into battles for glory and honor. It's fun. It's addicting. Majima plays a catgirl.

In the middle of all of this drama, it's nice to log on and just spend some time messing around in a fictional universe. The irony hits home that he'd made one of her eyes white, now, but he just leans into it all that much harder. So what if Goronyan is blind in one eye?! Goronyan is a badass summoner.

Badassery aside, Majima's always in character and his character is always about helping people. Need a res out in the field? Do you look like you're just dying? Hell yes he's gonna drive by cure you. If you've got the little leaf that marks you're a new player maybe Goronyan will approach you to try and help you out, or maybe you're just surprised someone's in a free company named after Retrospec.]

Fell down -- [ majima sighs. he's been feeding this line to npcs a lot today but mafuyu will get it, right? if he tells her the truth? that's not traumatic at all to tell a child is it? ] Nah, forget it, I woke up like this 'cause of all the memory bullshit.

[ Memory bullshit don't punch people in the face either, so this is only not traumatic yet because Mafuyu doesn't get it. ]

So, what happened? You woke up from a bad dream and slammed your face into the corner of the bedside table?

[ Because honestly, she can see it happening and that's more horrifying than a black eye. ]

[ it comes out a little shorter than he intended, and he does feel kind of bad for that, so he tries to start again more calmly: ]

[ That sounds defensive and a lie, but Mafuyu bites back a retort while he tries to explain. She's heard about people getting back powers, but she's really only seen it in action with one person. ]

Yeah? So your eye can shoot laser beams or something?

Fuck, that'd be dope.

[ they're going to get distracted like this ... ]

But that ain't it. It's like...rather than getting a power, I got the opposite of a power. Retrospec took something from me.

[ he's realizing, a little belatedly, that telling a child about losing an eye is probably wrong... her other dad is gonna be Disappointed when he hears about this

[ Okay. This could be as mild as eye color like everybody's been making such a fuss about earlier this month, to something mildly concerning as his eyesight, to something absolutely horrifying as an entire eye gone missing.

The only way to know for sure is to ask, but Mafuyu can't seem to find the words.

So instead, she reaches up and makes to tear that eyepatch right off Majima's face so she can see for herself. ]

[ quick as a flash, majima moves to try and grab her wrist and stop her from doing that. it has definitely, finally caught up with him that he probably should've just gone with the convenient lie instead of the difficult truth. ]

Don't. Ya don't wanna know what it looks like.

I want to see.

[ She was just kind of curious before, but now she definitely wants to see if Majima's so set on her not looking. She pulls her wrist away and doesn't try to take another swipe at the eyepatch, but fully expects Majima to show her despite the warning. ]

Is it gross? Bloody? Does it hurt?

Yeah, it's fuckin' gross. If it wasn't I'd let ya look at it!

[ he lets her go but hm yes he doesn't seem to be showing her i cant imagine why ]

It doesn't hurt, though. It's just like it's always been this way.

[ If it's always been this way, she can only imagine that it's not a weeping open wound anymore, but yeah, a missing eyeball will still be gross no matter if it feels like it's always been like that.

How dare Retrospec take people's eyes though, as if color isn't enough? ]

...You can't seriously be okay with this though?! I'm going to find this Jim guy and scoop out his eyeball.

I'm pretty sure it's got nothin' ta do with Jim. Kazzy an' I have been comparing memories an' we have a lot of each other. In all of his memories of me, I was missin' an eye. It must've been how I was, back then.

[ That's not fair, Mafuyu hasn't seen anybody she knows in her memories, neither somebody as close as Kaz and by association Majima, or her own family in Yato. ]

Who poked your eye out back then? Was it Kaz?

[ the intonation suggesting that this is something that definitely ran through her mind in the past five minutes ]

[ he shakes his head. he may not know who did it, but the scars make it pretty clear that she's right, it was probably cut out. ]

Nah, Kazzy's too pure for that shit. Ya really think he could cut a guy's eye out?

I dunno. It might've been a freak ninja star accident.

[ Mafuyu's almost poked people's eyes out with her ninja stars when she first got them, even if she would never do it on purpose. ...Honest. ]

Kinda get the sense it wasn't a fuckin' accident, but maybe.

It's got to be Kaz, then, 'cause no one else can get close enough to you to stab you in the eye.

[ her confidence in him is just so obvious and pure it gets him to actually smile. he has no idea how it happened, only that it looks bad. he can't know who caused it or how or any of that, but the fact that mafuyu thinks he's so capable touches him a lot. ]

[ A smile and a thank you...! She's so unused to either of those, she ends up just staring blankly at Majima for a few seconds as if waiting for the catch. But that doesn't come, so she shifts awkwardly and stares back up at that eyepatch. ]

So... Are you going to pop a glass eye in there or what? Then you can wear sunglasses and stuff during summer.

[ it wouldn't be a bad suggestion, in other circumstances. but with his particular ones... majima shakes his head. ]

Think I'd have ta cut it open to be able to do that.
