WHO: all you vidya nerds
WHERE: unspecific restaurant/bar place in tisse
WHEN: 5/20 (saturday afternoon, from 1pm to 6pm)
WHAT: small video gaming meetup!
WARNINGS: TBD
[you have most likely seen a pub's idea of marketing via calling the attention of a specific demographic: video gamers. the flyers and social media campaign mentioned the place and location, and if you didn't find out through that, you were probably told by a friend or family friend about the event taking place.]
[it's not that big of a shindig; the place is big enough to house a number of people, although most walls and tables now contain one of several video game consoles. one may find any company's consoles, from bentendo's new click, the xube180, vs4, and even older ones such as the miiu, and classics like the famicon and the sbes. the hosts of the event are willing to switch the games around depending on public demand, although the ones they've started with are the staple fighting, the racing, cooking, platform, and party games. one for everyone's taste, basically.]
[however, if there aren't any spots available to grab a controller--or if you need a break from the video games--you may also sit down and play any of the card and board games stacked on a table. while you're at it, feel free to order any drinks or food.]

[ See, the thing about someone who makes video games is that he needs to know what other people are playing, what kind of games is within the view of his target demographic, and the easiest way to do so is literally to show up at a party with a bunch of video gamers and let them do the work. Seto may or may not be standing in the corner taking notes about which games are currently being played, who's showing up at this whole event, the whole nine yards.
It's called Market Research.
Of course, that also means he's played through most of the games in this room, or at the very least, he's made sure that he's read through the strategy guides for those games that he hasn't played. ]
You're going about it wrongly. You have to go about the win condition in a specific way.
[ Having trouble with beating a particular level in a platformer game, or can't seem to beat That One Boss? Ha. He's just going to give cryptic advice when he can if he sees you struggling. ]
B: that racing game that looks suspiciously like Mario Kart
[ aka I am bad at fourthwalling ok just let me run with this and let me live.
Ok so he actually hates racing games, because these are the one type of games that he's not instinctively good at. Give him ridiculously long animated JRPGs and he'll probably beat them with his eyes closed, but party games like these???
He's actually really too much of a sore loser to actually play them properly, and every time a boost is used against him, he's probably going to curse underneath his breath.
So yeah, definitely a sore loser.
idk maybe you find him losing at games entertaining, maybe he's lost against you on fucking Rainbow Road, or you're just going to peanut gallery and provide commentary.
Either way, up for another round??? He'll take challengers. He's definitely changing the track to something Not-Rainbow Road. ]
wildcard
[ BRING IT. ]
B. as in don't B a sore loser Kaiba ;P
So why is he even here? Because he's curled up next to Kaiba with his chair scooted over as close as he can get it, with his legs tucked up on the chair (don't even ask how he managed this; for a six-foot tall guy he's remarkably foldable) and either his chin or his cheek resting on Kaiba's shoulder at varying points while they play. Sorry Kaiba, he's in a snuggling kind of mood after the earlier events of today.
And yeah, he can tell Kaiba doesn't like to lose. So when Fai's little green dinosaur dude somehow crosses the finish line first, he lets out a surprised squeak, grins, and tucks himself up against the grump again to watch the replay.]
You know, when I said 'take it easy on me,' you didn't have to take it quite so far~
don't tell him what to do ):<
Fai, please stop causing somewhat of a mental breakdown - he can't play video games properly if he has to hard restart some parts of his brain every time you curl up on him.
But then again he's also not really complaining...
please make up your mind, Seto, that just makes it easier for everyone. He also may or may not have growled in a super Offended manner when Yoshi beats Donkey Kong again. Also, guess who's skipping the replay to load another round of the circuit again? ]
You're a terrible distraction, and you're cheating. [ His grumbling is a lot less venomous than it should be. ]
poor grumpy boy :'D
...well okay, until he gets accused of cheating. Kaiba seems to unconsciously know all the best ways to encourage Fai's terrible behavior.]
Cheating?
[Fai grins lazily and leans even closer, so his lips are practically brushing Kaiba's ear, his voice a low purr.]
What, you mean like this~?
i have zero regrets
LITERALLY DROPS IT ON THE FLOOR JUST AS THE RACE BEGINS, SO HIS CHARACTER IS STILL STUCK AT THE START LINE.
And then he sputters, because god damn it Fai, you are evil and that lips against his ear plus the low purr combo is remarkably lethal enough to make Seto's brain short-circuit for a moment, especially since he wasn't really seeing that coming even from a mile away.
Thanks Fai, you broke him, you terrible person, you. These public displays of affection are going to murder him one day and you'll be the one responsible. ]
...... You're the absolute worst. [ This time it's said savagely, when he recovers, and as he dives down to pick up the controller once more.
YOU KNOW WHAT HE'S JUST GOING TO RESTART... ]
ngl I'm a little sorry for this one
A.
Yet still, he plays. )
... Do tell, stranger. How do I improve something I'm doing for fun?
( Generally, he's good at racing games and fighting games, but this RPG is entirely new to him. )

So he's just going to raise his arms in a kind of semi-mock surrender gesture for the moment before glancing over at the game that Tenmei is playing. ]
Difficult levels in games makes it a challenge, but it wouldn't be fun anymore if the difficulty level was set too high and made people ragequit.
[ He shrugs. That's the philosophy of his own games, at least. ] Some puzzles require you to think a little more... out of the box.
[ Random tidbit number one?? He'll provide more if you ask, Tenmei, or, you know, maybe you'll get lucky and he'll tell you the entire puzzle solution. ]
b
When Kaiba falls off the track of Rainbow Road for what is definitely more than just the second time, Ardyn can't help but make a remark at his ex-student's expense. It's all in good humor, though, even if Kaiba might not see it that way.]
I believe you're supposed to stay on the track, Mr. Kaiba.
[sorry not sorry]
b
Unfortunately that means he picks up a Blue Shell and it nukes Kaiba's kart straight in the wheels. ]
Oh, goodness.
[ What is this??? He didn't sign up for this giant flying first-place attack?? ]
FUCKING RACE ME BRO
Maybe we can race together?
[he speaks shyly, a whimsicality to his voice. he doesn't come off as a very competitive guy at all, in his pastels and with his sleepy eyes and easy smile.]
I'm a big fan of the series, but I never got much of a chance to play this version yet outside of the video game stores' demos.

( After some rounds of free-for-all fun, some people started to get serious. The "1-on-1, no items, plain stages only" kind of serious. There was enough space to play the casual way, as most moved to play competitively. Daichi, of course, couldn't let the chance slip by. So he's already fighting against some people using his favorite character, Mayro.
He's not a pro, but he knows how to play well. He knows a handful of combos and understands the 'neutral game'. But there's no time to explain the complexities about the game. He wins some, loses some, passes the controller, waits for his turn again to repeat the same process. It's fun, although some people can be really dense after losing. Or winning. But he just pays no mind to that.
He sits down in a free spot, the other conveniently empty as well - if anyone would like to play against him. )
b. or maybe some mindless chatter about rpgs, if that's up your alley.
Dude, I am sooo excited for the new game coming up. Not sure if you've heard about it, but it's called Personage Five. I didn't like the last one that much, but the gameplay was nice. Hopefully this will bring some new RPG elements and it's not necessarily all simple things.
( It's not like he doesn't like simple RPGs. But due his experience, he has enjoyed more complex releases rather than mainstream ones. He ain't a hipster, because he has enjoyed most recent releases as of late. But he'd like to see new things instead of the same things over and over. Though...
He can't say he disliked the social elements. It makes him feel related to the characters. Too nerdy, which is why he left it inside his head, rather than saying it loudly-- )
c. WILDCARD.
( hit me up with whatever. anything is good. )
b. rpg chatter is great
[ What, he's a video game developer, he's definitely going to nerd out about other video games, even those that aren't his own. ]
I just hope they're not going to have the darker elements for the sake of having them in the game. Although I have also heard they're retaining some of the more popular features from the previous instalments.
[ Any sane video game developer would do that, actually. ]
belated reply because having a busy life sucks.
[ There's a hum, fingers tapping his chin. ]
I mean, I think that's pretty cool. As long as it doesn't feel forced, I think they'll make a good game. I didn't like Personage 4 that much, but the gameplay was nice, at least...
[ The other releases were fine, though. So he has high expectations. ]
b
[ For some reason the year is really blatant and profound in his mind. Takumi hasn't played the series in quite some time. If he remembers correctly, Personage Four released when he only began in high school. Games after that seem like a blur with his family being tight on money.
Still, he hears about it from those around him at least. With the furrow of his eyebrows, he tries to remember the trailer he has seen around online. ]
It looks so edgy I might get cut, but the gameplay looks really cool in comparison to its predecessors.
takumean is here.
[ He played most of the saga around the same age. He remembers most things, but not the details. But this new release seemed good enough for him to talk about it. ]
Yeah, all the reds give that edgy look. But I saw some gameplays, it looks pretty neat and smooth. Not sure about the other things, though. I haven't checked. I may buy it when it comes out, provided I have the money.
[ Being broke sucks. ]
going to close counter your team
[ Jokes aside, he wonders what in the process needed an extra three years. So many things have changed... Including the upgrade of the console. Expensive.
Everything is expensive. ]
Broke, huh... I hope it's worth your blood, sweat, and tears then. Looking at the price tags of most console games hurt my soul.
[ And hi wallet. ]
say that to my 2 takumis, ike and nino.
Good one.
[ A smirk, then a cough, and finally a pause. ]
It's fine, I'm used to live like this, anyway. It gives my life a meaning.
[ He says all of that with a sarcastic tone. Of course he doesn't enjoy being like this. But that's college for you.
Sucks. ]
Luckily, I have my old VS3 -- they're releasing it for that one too, and it's 10 bucks cheaper, so... I'm saved.
okay so you're the actual monster
i am just blessed. thanks nintendo.

[ Lucian is here mostly because Makoto invited him to, and also because he figured it would be a good change of pace for himself. He's been too out of touch with current trends to be familiar with what's hot, so he'll probably be hovering around the consoles looking for anything that catches his interest.
No, don't suggest he play Surgical Team. ]
two
[ A while later he can be seen trundling along in a cartoony type of dungeon crawler game. He's not a very fast person so he'll hardly have finished the first part of Yggdrasil's Labyrinth in half an hour. Are those notes he's taking? Certainly so. It seems like he's taking it very seriously.
Feel free to offer peanut gallery commentary, or give him advice. What is games for older people.... ]
one
It's sort of a joke, indicated by the lilt in his words. But how is he not going to find something for the man who invited him along to entertain himself with? Ardyn isn't much of a gamer, but he's curious, and that's all the motivated he needed to attend this little meet-up.]
It should be easy for you, hm?
no subject
I could give it a try. The more exciting specialties are represented here, it seems.
[ He's a haematologist, which means sitting down and doing desk work. ]
no subject
[Desk work or otherwise, it's just as important all the same. After the console accepts the disc and loads up the game, Ardyn takes a seat nearby. He's eying the controller, which looks a bit unusual -- motion controls, was it?
someone help these old dudes ok]Something tells me you've a cool head under pressure, so I suppose that doesn't matter.

[makoto arrived at the event a little later than the starting time, hoping not to seem too eager about showing up too early. there's already a bit of a crowd and that much is understandable. at least, with his height, he takes advantage of it and starts searching for any familiar faces. he isn't very lucky and tells himself that it's still early.]
[being shy of nature, he heads towards a booth in a less busy corner. immediately, he's got a waiter offering him drinks and a menu to look through. although makoto is feeling hungry, he's extremely conscious that he's sitting on his own. busy as the place is, he doesn't yet feel brave enough to jump into any of the tables to start playing any of the games available. he looks around, recognises most of the games, and a small smile features on his face.]
[some minutes later, however, fingers scratch lightly at the cardboard on his hands, and he's not sure if he wants chicken wings or a burger...]
B. SOMETHING'S BURNING
[welcome to overcooked, the game that shows you how to expertly run a restaurant and where friendship matters very little when you're the idiot who let the rat take the onion you left on the counter, unattended, ruining the entire flow of onion soup production.]
[the shameful amount of zero stars reflect painfully on the screen]
Look, it wasn't my fault. We all had our roles, but we kept moving away from our stations!
[as if that kind of strategy works like clockwork in the later stages of the game.]
C. WHO CAME UP WITH THE RULES ANYWAY
[listen up]
[there is a reason why after a few hours makoto escaped to the bathroom, removed his contact lenses, and returned with his glasses on. it's not to blend in as a super nerdy kid. it's because he's getting serious.]
[why do you think he's won the past five games in a row on this racing/fighting/puyopuyotetris! game? he takes this shit seriously, and no one's going to take this moment from him. his confidence is at an all-time high, now that he's more sure of his surroundings and has managed to talk with some of the other guests of the event.]
[but maybe it's time for someone to really give him a challenge?]
[he looks around, wondering if anyone will step up.]
b
This is hell. ]
... Makoto. [ Mumbled, his tone a little off. ] I don't want to hear this from the person who kept giving us tomatoes when we asked for onions.
Re: b
[his voice cracks when he tries to squeak out a reply (but he perseveres)]
N-not my fault someone kept calling for tomatoes, too!
[too much was happening all at the same time]
no subject
We had a system whenever they switched it up. Onion, onion, tomato. Back to onion. Not constant tomatoes. [ This is the most he's said in like six years. He takes a huge breath, sighing in defeat. ] ... This is still better than the earthquake round.
