WARNINGS: Fire??
ONE

Souji hasn't been feeling easy since the night of the prom. It wasn't the prom itself that got him feeling so disembodied with himself (in fact, he had a great time being crowned Prom Princess and all) but rather, it was something else entirely. It was this feeling of "something" residing within him, as if he suddenly wasn't just Souji Narukami anymore but instead, Souji and who knows what.

Obviously, he hasn't spoken a word about this to anyone. Why would he? No need to bring on unnecessary concern and besides, this is something he should handle on his own. It can just be another one of his secrets, just like the strange voices in his head and the floating cards that he sees...

As a result, Souji has been trying to be as secretive as possible about his newfound powers. Well, as secretive as you can be with another being living in your soul, but you know, you make do. You make do by going to a semi-secluded area behind a few building and try to figure out how to summon said new monster. It's honestly just as hard as it sounds.

The first few times, almost nothing happens at all. A card engulfed in blue fire appears, Souji crushes it, there's a brief half second of an oversized monster, it disappears, rinse and repeat. Thanks to a certain memory, there is a faint sense of familiarity with the summoning process, but it doesn't suddenly endow him with the experience or knowledge that he needs to continue. All he can do right now is to practise with what he knows and that is to just summon the damn thing.

Sure would be a shame if someone walked around that corner and saw Mr Blue and Flaming Demon...

... or it'd be a greater shame if someone turned that corner at the wrong time and accidentally got hit by a spell.

Over the next few days, Souji has been diligently practising with summoning Mada, slowly learning the type of skills it possessed and how to direct it to use said skills. It certainly isn't an easy task, quickly draining Souji out and having him nearly pass out a few times. One doesn't simply become a Persona master in just a couple of days and for someone as inexperienced as him, there's bound to be some accidents.

Accidents involve fire or silencing spells.

Don't worry, the fire might just barely miss you or just catch a tiny bit of your clothes so don't worry about any serious injuries, but that silencing spell... don't worry, it'd probably wear off.

... eventually.

THREE

Remember how Souji nearly passed out from draining himself of all energy with this whole Persona nonsense? Well, it just about happened now.

Souji at least had the common sense to try and sit up against the wall right before he just suddenly dropped dead from exhaustion, but he slumps over to the side, actually kind of looking like a murder victim. It's quite terrifying, really, but hey, if you're looking for an opportunity to take his wallet then now is a good time.

[Accidents do happen, but fortunately for both of them this is more a happy accident rather than something upsetting. You see, Yukiko had just been walking along home, minding her own business. It's early evening and she's just been grocery shopping, headphones on, bobbing her head along to her favorite band when she turns a corner.

And WHARRRRRRRGARBLE right into a blast of fire.

It hits her full in the face, like whoa!]

[ Well, that's one way to find out these teenagers can take fireballs to the face without even flinching (okay, there might be a tiny bit of flinching) but Souji drops everything to immediately rush to Yukiko's side. ]

Yukiko--!

[ oh my god oh my god oh my god he's too young to go to prison like this ]

[Was that fire? Seriously? She just kind of stands there, feeling a little warmer and...actually quite peppier than before.

When Souji comes rushing up, she tilts her head to one side.]

Souji? What's the matter?

[See, it hasn't registered yet.]

Did it get warm, or...?

[ Mada has disappeared by now and Souji stops in front of Yukiko, just... staring at her because he could have sworn that she just took a direct fireball to the face. He's very confused (but also very relieved at the same time). ]

I... didn't you get hit? With fire?

Is...that what that was? There was this flash, but...that's all I remember.

[She just remembers a flash and feeling warm.]

What happened?

[ How does he explain this without it being like "well, I hit you with fire with the new monster in me but you're okay so wtf"? ]

I was... practising with some fire and I could have sworn that I hit you, but I don't see any injuries or burns on you.

[ "Practising with some fire" sounds weird but not as weird as "practising with my fire god". ]

You...were practicing with fire.

[Oh boy, she's starting to put this together too.]

Which means you have power like your brother and I. And you...hit me.

[ ... wait what ]

[Her fingertip begins to glow, with little difficulty now.]

I've been practicing for a month.

[ He looks down at her finger with widened eyes. ]

A month... [ He then looks back up at her. ] You must have better control over it then.

[The fireball winks out...]

I have some. But you...that flash. You hit me?

[ A... aha, back to this... Souji immediately gets flustered. ]

... Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm pretty sure I hit you. With fire.

[burningblossoms]

But I didn't feel anything...

[Maybe you're safe? Maybe...]

[ Please don't execute him, Yukiko. ]

... Could it be because you have the same power?

[burningblossoms]

If you mean calling my guardian angel into being, then yes.

[Gears are turning. And she's getting mad...]

Why are you practicing here, and not somewhere further away from people you could catch on fire?

[ At least Souji has a fire-absorbing Persona... Yukiko's fiery wrath will not harm him. ]

I thought this was isolated enough from everyone else, but clearly not. I'm sorry. [ This is a genuine apology, Souji even bows his head slightly. ] I... didn't know where to go.

[ Look, suddenly feeling like someone else is taking up part of his soul and whatnot makes a kid freak out, okay? He doesn't know Recolle well enough to find a place that's far away from everyone. ]

[Wait till she regains her Darkness spells...]

Souji, walk with me to the B&B and then I'll take you out to my practice spot. We can actually discuss this there, away from the sleepers. The people who aren't...on Retrospec.

[ Yukiko, no, why are you doing this to him? What are some fire attacks between friends? ]

Why the name "sleepers"?

[ That's new to him. ]

Well, it feels like we're waking up. To new abilities and memories. And they don't know anything about it. Yosuke and I came up with it.

[Sounds good, huh? Much like the fireball she's going to toss at you.

Though it begs the question why only those on Retrospec are affected. What makes us so special?

Anyway... how did you find this practise spot?

I was down at the beach, and noticed there weren't any people around. It's just off the water, in a clearing in the forest.

I avoided the beach because I was afraid it'd be busy during the summer, but this is a good find.

I hope you don't mind if I come here to practise as well.

[ Being near a body of water is probably good if he sets any more people on fire... ]

Honestly I thought we could probably train together, anyway. See if we can figure out the strengths and weaknesses of our...um...guardian angels.
