OPEN — FOOD TRUCK RALLY

WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Peach Beach and the Boardwalk
WHEN: April 12th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
WHAT: A food truck rally for all our hungry selves.
WARNINGS: Sunburns?? Maybe.

THE FOOD:
With so many trucks, stands and kiosks, there's more than enough food to cater to everyone's tastes. Tables and chairs have been set up around the boardwalk, complete with patio umbrellas to shield customers from the sun and an excellent view of the ocean. It doesn't matter if you're a customer, a vendor, a swimmer or even one of the musical acts — it's hard to deny it's a nice day outside. The sun is shining, the temperature is pleasant, and the smell of delicious food fills the air. Vendors selling other wares and stands for face painting have also been set up around the area, so there's plenty to spend your money on throughout the day.

And for those poor, responsible saps who won't be able to join until later in the day (be it because they decided not to skip school or had to work a shift early in the morning), don't worry. The festivities won't end until 11:00 PM. There's plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, the food, and the beach.

Hope the queues don't stress you out, however.

THE BEACH:
The beach itself is equipped with a handful of volleyball nets. Some volleyballs can be found in the general vicinity, but should all of them be in use (or, you know, super duper squished), you can always bring your own — or buy them from one of the more opportunistic vendors in the rally. Those who are interested in making use of the nets are more than free to team up and get down to business. You all might want to be careful, however, to avoid accidentally smacking a passerby in the head with a badly aimed volleyball.

Or... a well aimed volleyball. It's okay. Nobody will judge. Probably.

Move past the volleyball nets and the sand, though, and you'll reach the waters. Today's weather is nice enough that no one needs to worry about getting dragged away by the tide, but just in case? There's likely to be a lifeguard nearby. That, or a good Samaritan. So don your best swimsuit and have fun.

THE MUSIC:
A small stage has been set out for the DJ and the live musical acts to do their thing. Music will be playing throughout the whole day, offering a nice mix of the latest hits and... questionable musical choices between acts. Some of the trucks and stands are outfitted with placards and flyers announcing this year's lineup, and there seem to be four (4) familiar names among the list:

Ainsley Menodora
Jade Wolf
A Lyrical Assassination
Yin Longwei

Feel free to grab a friend (or a stranger) and dance along to the music. Maybe relax after your performance. Or, contemplate throwing the DJ's equipment into the ocean when he plays the same diddly darn song for the 20th time in a row. It's not even the full version. It's only a infinite loop of the same 43 seconds. Please make it stop.

(We did say to be patient with the DJ.)

THE RAFFLE:
At 5:00 PM, there will be an intermission in the music in order to announce the results of the raffle. The tumbler drum is wheeled to the stage, where it's given one last spin before tickets are removed from it one by one. The winners will be called as their tickets are drawn, an announcer asking them to climb up to the stage via microphone. There, they'll receive their prize and will thus be free to gloat — or grimace at what they've been given.

The results are the following:
Dave Strider - Coupon book with $500 in savings at participating fast food restaurants.
Penelope Raban - $50 giftcard
Ranko Kanzaki - Novelty sunglasses
Izuku Midoriya - Free dinner for six (6) at some ritzy restaurant.
Ilia Trevelyan - A few dozen gourmet cupcakes, courtesy of The Confectionary
Noah Campbell - A selection of the latest games ÉcarlateSoft has to offer.
James Barnes - Two tickets for an hour's time at the Deadeye Shooting range, donated by Elizabeth Wolf.
Augustine Sycamore - $30 giftcard to Amazon, donated by Penpoint Productions.
Don Maxwell - Coupon for free slice of pizza with choice of topping and a medium fountain drink, courtesy of the Pizza Port.
Roxy Strider - A selection of character plushies from CUBEnix's flagship game series.
Minako Arisato - A month of free Zumba lessons at Dance!!! Studio
Enjoy your prize! And be sure to haul ass, lest the announcer decide you're absent and call someone else.

BONUS:
As the last few live musical acts play and the festivities begin to wrap up, it seems like this year's Food Truck Rally has come to a peaceful end. Most vendors have started to pack up in order to call it a night — save for two. Anyone who has been hanging around the local soft serve ice cream and açai bowl trucks might have noticed the growing tension between their vendors. It all comes to a head when, at the end of the rally, they both hop into the driver's seat of their trucks, rev their engines, and begin to race each other down the beach.

It's all too predictable when, in an attempt to avoid a prop that hadn't been packed up yet, the ice cream truck swerves and drives right into the ocean. The splash is big enough to soak anyone who happens to be nearby, the truck being pulled into the waters moments later. There doesn't seem to be any chance of saving the poor, innocent truck.

Almost appropriately, it seems like the DJ has time for one last song.

The haunting melody plays as the ice cream truck slowly sinks into the ocean, its mascot cheery and bright as it's all swallowed up by the water. The driver dog paddles away (thank god), but this is not the end of the chaos. On the other side, the açai bowl truck's driver momentarily turns to jeer at his defeated enemy — only to crash into a peach tree the next second. Anyone on that side of the beach might want to get the heck out of the way, because it's literally about to start raining peaches.
Welcome to the Food Truck Rally, everyone! The OOC post for this can be found over here, and a thread for questions is here. Mingle, don't drown, and try not to get a sunburn while splurging on food. Or totally let your character get a sunburn, if that floats your boat. Either way, I hope you all have fun!

[Lucy muttered and rocked back onto her heels—and grabbed the soda can while she was at it.]

Am not.

[It was more a token mutter than a real protest. She rubbed at her nose, even. See, she was fine!

Turning a bit pinkish on the side of her body facing the sun, but. Totally fine.
]
belligerentwarrior: (I'll deal with you)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-17 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[And now that her hand was free, Freya could de-cap her own drink and partake of it. She cocks and eyebrow at Lucy in the process at her protest, cheekily treating it as a real one.]

Right. 'Cause your ears are always that red. Last dye session not go well?
long_live_the_queen: (basically her face 99.9% of the time)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-17 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Her head drew back to her shoulders like a stubborn turtle.]

They're fine.

[Why did her roommate have to bring it up, her ears and...half of her face felt warm, ugh.

Lucy pulled the tab on the soda can irritably anyway. It did not, in fact, fizz all over her hands or face.

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-17 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, Lucy took the drink, so... success? Freya had a lot harder time reading her roommate than Minako seemed to. She propped her free hand on her hip.]

I know you know I'm teasing. Ease up a little.
long_live_the_queen: (are you for serious)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-17 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mumble, mumble. Lucy doesn't immediately respond, but took a drink instead. The cold soda was welcome, honestly.

When she replies, her voice has crept a bit closer to neutral instead of cranky.
]

How long were you here?

[It looked like Freya had been swimming. Was she just lurking in the water like a crocodile...?]
belligerentwarrior: (What a sweetheart)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[A shrug.] Since around noon, I guess. Didn't have anywhere to be today, so I showed up whenever.

[Or, you know, she could misinterpret that as a general question rather than a Lucy-specific one before she takes another drink.] If I knew you were gonna show up, I could've nagged you about sunscreen.
long_live_the_queen: (are you talking about my hat)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-18 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I was hungry after my shift this morning.

[Lucy shrugged too, glancing away. There were less noisy places she could have gone for lunch, and ones with less UV exposure. But she was here, regardless.

The teenager kicked at some sand underfoot, revealing...nothing much of interest. More sand, some anonymous bits of multicolored shell.

That kind of thing tends to happen after work, you know.

[Since Lucy turned away and seemed to stop doing anything interesting, Freya turn her gaze to the ocean.] Still, 's good to see you gettin' out more.
long_live_the_queen: (are you for serious)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-20 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[A huff.]

I get out fine.

[Like, maybe a few times that weren't work or food or roommate related. Definitely solid social interaction for a joyless stick in the mud.]
belligerentwarrior: (How's this make us lucky?)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-20 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
["Joyless stick in the mud" really hits the nail on the head. Freya tilts her head back and sighs at the sky before turning pointedly back to Lucy.]

Am I bothering you? I can go.

[There's no anger in her voice; only an undercurrent of exasperation. Some days (most days), talking to Lucy felt like trying to shake hands with a brick wall.]
long_live_the_queen: (another blank stare icon)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-21 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
You're not.

[Now that Freya brought it up, Lucy...actually didn't want her to go. It was odd to think about. But her roommate's presence wasn't unwelcome, most of the time. Freya wasn't too noisy, or pestered her with a lot of questions, and...was helpful, sometimes.]

I was looking for something.

[She kicked up another clump of sand (this one a bit damp) unintentionally at Freya's legs. At least it wasn't full of shells or wiggly things.]
belligerentwarrior: (How's this make us lucky?)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-24 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
[That catches Freya's attention. She tilts her head a bit, curiosity immediately prominent in her tone.]

Yeah? What's that?
long_live_the_queen: (are you talking about my hat)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-24 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
A shell. Pink, looks like a scallop shell.

[Lucy actually had one just like that in her pocket already. Would...all of that, happen again if she saw another shell like that? Would she see the rest of the memory, or would it remain like a broken off sentence in her mind?]
belligerentwarrior: (Chasing shadows)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-04-24 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[She takes another sip of her drink to keep back a joke about clams and Lucy's sociable nature.] Pretty specific. What for?

[But despite her inquiries, Freya's attention does turn to scan the sand.]
long_live_the_queen: (slightly less of a scowl)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-04-24 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
['Most likely to stay inside unless stabbed with a knife?']

Remembering something.

[There was a purplish one over there, a small, broken orangey shell there, a piece of plastic that way. But the only pink thing currently in view was Lucy's hair.]
belligerentwarrior: (How's this make us lucky?)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-05-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
["Looking to hang out with your cousins?"]

[After a brief pause, Freya's attention swung back to Lucy, observing quietly for a moment, before combing over the sand again. She stepped towards the water's edge, poking around with her foot. Beach-goers probably picked over the best shells so far.]

In a normal way, or that few-screws-loose kinda way we've all been getting the last few months?
long_live_the_queen: (murder does not cure headaches)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-05-01 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not crazy. [The girl's answer was immediate—as was her grumble at her own tone. Lucy's voice had marginally fewer sharper edges when she spoke again.]

Just. I want to know who the hell that was.

[Maybe finding a new shell and picking it up the same way would do it again? It didn't work when she just dropped the first shell, but maybe it was used up for the day.

Or maybe she was crazy.
]
belligerentwarrior: (I'm great you're great everyone's great)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-05-03 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
The latter. Got it. [She rolled her eyes a bit. It's been happening to her, too; Lucy didn't need to be so damn defensive about it.]

What kinda thing'd you see?
long_live_the_queen: (murder does not cure headaches)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-05-03 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lucy couldn't see her roommate's rolling eyes, but her shoulders twitched at the answer. Rather than engaging with that, though, she continued.]

It was raining. And cold. There was a boy there—

[Now Lucy did turn, halfway, and pointed at a spot on the sand a bit behind her.]

He seemed important. Like I didn't need to be reminded of who he was, but I can't remember his face.

[An uncomfortable shifting on her feet.]

I think...something awful was about to happen. And I couldn't warn him.
belligerentwarrior: (How's this make us lucky?)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-05-30 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not?

[Freya crouched, waiting for a small wave to pass her ankles before digging a shell out of the sand. It wasn't like Lucy described, so she tossed it back in the waves.]

Couldn't speak or something?
long_live_the_queen: (it's Monday)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-05-30 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Lucy watched the shell skip over the water, brows still furrowed as she chased memories.]

I guess. Like everything was half frozen.
belligerentwarrior: (How's this make us lucky?)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-05-30 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Freya turned to look at Lucy quizzically, silent asking for elaboration. "Half-frozen" didn't make much sense.]
long_live_the_queen: (murder does not cure headaches)

[personal profile] long_live_the_queen 2017-05-30 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I forgot how to say anything.

[Lucy shook her head; she was thinking too much about how cold she was.]

Did I hit my head, or something?
belligerentwarrior: (Chasing shadows)

[personal profile] belligerentwarrior 2017-05-31 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Freya tilts her head with a quiet sign, her features falling somewhere between neutral and concerned.]

I guess that sort of thing's possible. But if your head had it that bad, you probably had a slew of other things to worry about.
