OPEN — FOOD TRUCK RALLY
WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Peach Beach and the Boardwalk

WHAT: A food truck rally for all our hungry selves.

THE FOOD:
With so many trucks, stands and kiosks, there's more than enough food to cater to everyone's tastes. Tables and chairs have been set up around the boardwalk, complete with patio umbrellas to shield customers from the sun and an excellent view of the ocean. It doesn't matter if you're a customer, a vendor, a swimmer or even one of the musical acts — it's hard to deny it's a nice day outside. The sun is shining, the temperature is pleasant, and the smell of delicious food fills the air. Vendors selling other wares and stands for face painting have also been set up around the area, so there's plenty to spend your money on throughout the day.
And for those poor, responsible saps who won't be able to join until later in the day (be it because they decided not to skip school or had to work a shift early in the morning), don't worry. The festivities won't end until 11:00 PM. There's plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, the food, and the beach.
Hope the queues don't stress you out, however.
THE BEACH:
The beach itself is equipped with a handful of volleyball nets. Some volleyballs can be found in the general vicinity, but should all of them be in use (or, you know, super duper squished), you can always bring your own — or buy them from one of the more opportunistic vendors in the rally. Those who are interested in making use of the nets are more than free to team up and get down to business. You all might want to be careful, however, to avoid accidentally smacking a passerby in the head with a badly aimed volleyball.
Or... a well aimed volleyball. It's okay. Nobody will judge. Probably.
Move past the volleyball nets and the sand, though, and you'll reach the waters. Today's weather is nice enough that no one needs to worry about getting dragged away by the tide, but just in case? There's likely to be a lifeguard nearby. That, or a good Samaritan. So don your best swimsuit and have fun.

A small stage has been set out for the DJ and the live musical acts to do their thing. Music will be playing throughout the whole day, offering a nice mix of the latest hits and... questionable musical choices between acts. Some of the trucks and stands are outfitted with placards and flyers announcing this year's lineup, and there seem to be four (4) familiar names among the list:

Feel free to grab a friend (or a stranger) and dance along to the music. Maybe relax after your performance. Or, contemplate throwing the DJ's equipment into the ocean when he plays the same diddly darn song for the 20th time in a row. It's not even the full version. It's only a infinite loop of the same 43 seconds. Please make it stop.
(We did say to be patient with the DJ.)
THE RAFFLE:
At 5:00 PM, there will be an intermission in the music in order to announce the results of the raffle. The tumbler drum is wheeled to the stage, where it's given one last spin before tickets are removed from it one by one. The winners will be called as their tickets are drawn, an announcer asking them to climb up to the stage via microphone. There, they'll receive their prize and will thus be free to gloat — or grimace at what they've been given.
The results are the following:

As the last few live musical acts play and the festivities begin to wrap up, it seems like this year's Food Truck Rally has come to a peaceful end. Most vendors have started to pack up in order to call it a night — save for two. Anyone who has been hanging around the local soft serve ice cream and açai bowl trucks might have noticed the growing tension between their vendors. It all comes to a head when, at the end of the rally, they both hop into the driver's seat of their trucks, rev their engines, and begin to race each other down the beach.
It's all too predictable when, in an attempt to avoid a prop that hadn't been packed up yet, the ice cream truck swerves and drives right into the ocean. The splash is big enough to soak anyone who happens to be nearby, the truck being pulled into the waters moments later. There doesn't seem to be any chance of saving the poor, innocent truck.
Almost appropriately, it seems like the DJ has time for one last song.
The haunting melody plays as the ice cream truck slowly sinks into the ocean, its mascot cheery and bright as it's all swallowed up by the water. The driver dog paddles away (thank god), but this is not the end of the chaos. On the other side, the açai bowl truck's driver momentarily turns to jeer at his defeated enemy — only to crash into a peach tree the next second. Anyone on that side of the beach might want to get the heck out of the way, because it's literally about to start raining peaches.

Early in the afternoon, once Noah was able to get out of school, he can be found working at the stall. He looks a bit...different from normal, as like the rest of the staff, he's wearing the rather frilly uniform. In addition to the dress, he's wearing a wig, make-up, and some accessories - all to make it so he can pass as a girl at a glance. His name tag even reads as "Robin", his middle name, since that's more gender neutral. His boss didn't require any of this technically, but Noah felt it was probably the best way not to stick out like a sore thumb. There's a difference between not caring what people think, and painting a target on your back after all.
But forget all that. The weirdest part though for anyone who knows him? Is that he seems to be smiling and...polite?! There's a good reason for all this of course (he wants to get paid), but it can still be weird to be greeted with a smile from Noah when you walk up to the counter.]

[ B. On Break: Nearish the Confectionary Stall, late afternoon]
[When it's time for break, Noah heads to the nearest foodstalls to grab some food and then finds a quiet pinic bench between some stalls to sit down to eat and take a break from people. He's still in his uniform, but since he's not on the clock? He resorts to his usual scowling expression. If anyone approaches him, the tone of his voice is very far from the cheerfulness he was faking on shift. Nope, it's much more like his usual grumpy snarl. ]

[C. Off-Shift: Around the Rally, Evening. ]
[Lucky for Noah, he's able to get off in time to still have a few hours to explore the event. As soon as he's off, he heads to the nearest bathroom, changes clothes, and washes off the make up. When he comes out, he's wearing his more usual black male attire- the dress, wig and any accessories have been shoved into his backpack. Timcanpy, who had been sleeping in his bag, is now riding on his shoulder.
From there, he wanders the event. Anyone not on the app doesn't seem to pay Timcanpy any mind- at most they seem to not see him or assume he's just some kind of bird. Noah doesn't get it, but he's learned not to question it either. Instead, he's opting to try out whatever foodstalls he can. Or, he's looking around at the different shops are open (especially if any are carrying ÉcarlateSoft games). Or, he's simply wandering.
All in all, he actually seems to be in a pretty good mood, for Noah. It's hard not to be, when you're surrounded by food and you even won a prize in the raffle. There might be a good chance to approach him without getting snarled at.

Togusa had missed the festivities, intentionally so. Not only did he owe somebody a favor for covering for his sudden call-out, but he has just gotten a really good reason to not show off the beach bod. But when the call comes in at the end of the night that there are not one but two food trucks crashed down at the beach? Someone isn't getting off-shift anytime soon.
It has already ticked past 11:00 by the time Togusa is on-scene, trying to help set up barricades so they can keep the crowd back, and make room for the rescue vehicles large enough to cart an ice cream truck out of the ocean.
Togusa stands, arms folded, taking a second to stare at the tragic sight of all that soft-serve gone to waste. "This is easily, top ten, of the most depressing things I've ever seen," he comments. "So much for getting on that human sleep schedule..."

[This food rally is great, but you know what it also is? Crowded. The beach offers some breathing space away from the boardwalk, but you'll be hard pressed to find a spot to sit...unless you stumble across one of the volleyball nets just beyond the entrance closest to the rally.
One Minako Arisato has claimed it for herself, and with blankets lined up along the side, weighted down with coolers, purses, and food, it's pretty much a party for one too (if you don't count her puppy Koromaru). Her volleyball club team has abandoned her for that terrible DJ, she's afraid.
Are you a familiar face? Then she might beckon you over to play with her, just for ten minutes please, to ease her boredom while she saves the spot for her team. Not someone she knows? [It's so, so hot and Gintoki looks on towards the cool, refreshing waters of the ocean right past the beach with longing. Now, you might be wondering why he's so sad? Just go into the water, Gintoki! Live your dreams! Or so you wish to say. Unfortunately it's not that easy. One good look at him and you'll see that he's one of those amazing, great samaritans who volunteered to keep an eye out for the safety of the people in the water!
Just kidding, he was hired for the job and isn't being paid enough. It almost looks like he's trying to search for a reason to not play this lifeguard role anymore? Or at least find a reason to get into the water and relax without having to be a hero and save someone's life.
He's starting to wonder if there's any hope of a savior coming along, or if he's doomed to this hell forever.]
EVENING, FOOD STALLS; People who cut in line have no respect or sense of human dignity
[There's a lot of things Gintoki is bad at, and one those things is waiting. As a guy with little patience for long lines, it's incredible that he's managed to last so long with about 20 other people in front of him waiting to get food... but don't be fooled! He's only on his best behavior because his daughter is running around nearby.
That being said, he can only keep behaving for so long... and the fuse is pretty close to exploding when, after half an hour of standing in a grueling line, someone has the audacity to disrespect his person and cut in front of him?]

She visited stall after stall, knowing that she would eat enough to regret it tomorrow, and making sure not to order too much from any one stall. She wanted to taste a little of everything after all. So, anyone could find her with a single helping of something from one of the food trucks, moving to the tables or enjoying it as she walked, a small smile on her face.

Once on a beach towel, she finally doffed the cloak and let it rest next to her. The sun was setting, and she was looking up towards the evening sky reflectively. The week had been... eventful to say the least. Staying off of the network had not caused her to escape anything, and in fact it had been worse than any week prior, but right then all she wanted to do was watch the stars, an arm curled around one of her bare knees, the jean shorts and black one-piece she wore showing off pale, athletic legs and a flat chest as she watched up, not quite paying attention if anyone happened to come near.

[Lucy had been responsible today, okay. She had a fuckoff-early morning shift, and was honestly still a bit tired. But lunch had been a long time ago. And the apartment was feeling...a bit empty. So Lucy had changed out of her work uniform into more a comfortable shirt, skirt, and set of shoes, and quietly made her way over to the beach. It was noisy, as expected, but...not too many people were bothering her, which was nice.
And at the very least, she could get something nicer to eat this time. She was hungry, just...had to decide which stall (or truck, or etc) to go to first. Really, being this spoiled for choice was a welcome change. And there'd probably be at least someone Lucy recognized around here somewhere.]

[Afterwards, and after avoiding most of the volleyball nets lest accidental projectiles find her head, Lucy was languidly pacing down the beach near the water's edge. She'd taken off her shoes and was quite busy with important things like turning over broken clamshells with her toes, or investigating an interesting lump of driftwood, or seeing if that dead thing over there was really a jellyfish.
She's rather focused on the task, and might run into someone. Or step on them, or splash water in their direction, or any number of not-really-paying-attention things.]

Yato is especially excited today because he has oooone... ta-da! Stupidly expensive camera! Watch as he happily plays with settings and takes pictures of e v e r y t h i n g from close-ups of food stall wares (without buying a thing, of course) to faraway shots of oblivious beachgoers.
i) Maybe a random dude taking pictures of people in swimsuits with a high-power camera is creepy. (It is creepy.) Your character should probably stop him? Or at least question him a little??
ii) Maybe Yato knows your character and is trying to take a Nature Shot of them as they play on the beach! Or eat messy food truck food, everyone loves awkward eating photos right. He might not even care about your character and go straight for intimate shots of the food?
iii) Orrr maybe Yato is doing a reverse photobomb by running up to your character while they're distracted and taking a selfie with them. These are the most expensive selfies of his life!! Feel honored!! But if your character catches him as he runs up, then hey a normal photo together is just as good HE GUESSES.
B: Purple teardrops I cry
Later on in the day, Yato settles down under some vacant umbrella to look over the photos he's taken so far. He navigates the camera's display with an unguarded smile, nodding to himself over some especially well-composed shot or a picture of a friend. What a good purchase... His phone's camera was truly

But when he comes upon a selfie, he stops. Angles the camera a little? Squints and holds the screen closer to his face... Maybe the settings were weird when he took this picture, because it looks like he has a little blueeye. He is pretty sure blueeye isn't a thing. Automatically, he rubs at his eyes which is a huge fucking mistake because he's been running around the beach all morning and so now he's rubbed dirt and salt into his bright blue eyes.
Observe as Yato begins to cry bitter adult tears. ]

[ Ainsley and her family introduces themselves as the Musical Menodoras when it's their turn. Wearing a colourful paper flower crown that some of her students made for her to wear on this very special occasion, it certainly matched the… whimsy outfit that she's wearing. Looks to be handmade judging by the stitching and over-all design.
The family focus on playing American folk songs, the tune lively and sweet thanks to the strumming guitar, the twinkling piano, and Ainsley's honest voice. Though the themes and stories the songs tell are rather… morbid if you pay attention to the lyrics.
Go Tell Aunt Rhody is about telling a child to relay the news of an aunt's beloved geese being found dead. In the Pines is the singer asking a girl where she had gone after learning the news of her father dying a gruesome death. Wildwood Flower is, perhaps, a bit softer in comparison to the last two - a romance that ends on a sour note, the admired leaving the admirer behind and leaving them in despair.
The final planned song ends on a much sweeter note at least - They play Something Stupid with Ainsley's parents doing the duet with one another. When the song comes to an end, Ainsley surprises her parents with a party popper that she somehow managed to smuggle on her person. Her father is tickled. Her mother not so much.
After that they'll take requested songs - yes, even Wonderwall if you're being sincere - and thank those listening for being a wonderful audience before retreating. The family can later be found in the audience after their performance, enjoying the rest of the musical acts while seemingly enjoying each other's company. ]

[but the day's not complete without going onto the beach. moving away from the nets, she decides to forego the sports in favor of walking near the water, leaving her shoes to be picked up on the way back and instead enjoying the air and the breeze. sure, she's not in a swimsuit, but that doesn't mean the water's off limits.
the waves come up to brush her feet and ankles, and she's laughing, bright and free. happy in a simple way, it's enough that if she looks around and sees someone, friend or stranger, she waves and gestures that they should come down.

[It is, of course, customary to start one's day at a food-related event by stuffing one's face. To that end, Alicia's hanging around the trucks, looking for things to try that she hasn't seen before. There are at least a few such items, and for the morning she can largely be found with something or other. Notably she's careful about the fried stuff and anything with too much ice cream. But even she has weaknesses. The occasional dopey smile from something tasty likely isn't helping. Ice cream will happen at least once.]

[Once she's had her fill - for the moment, at least - Alicia turns her attention to the beach and the entertainment. She saves the stage as a thought for later, instead preferring to just keep to herself and go for a little jaunt down the waterfront with the sand between her toes. It's relaxing, despite the crowds, and she's happy to greet anyone she knows as she goes by. Eventually she'll settle somewhere, a big, thin towel coming out to set down on the sand and her things being set there before she plops down herself, fishing for sunscreen because she doesn't trust her skin not to burn. That done, she can be found taking in the sunshine for a little while, occasionally with a book in hand and her parasol open and wedged into the sand just so. Admittedly, the towel is big enough to fit more than just her on purpose: if she sees someone she knows, she'll wave them over to join her - it's too nice a day to spend alone, right?
She'll hit the water at least once before the sun starts to set, proving athletic enough as she swims a distance out from shore and tries to keep herself out of trouble, and at some point she'll wander over to the volleyball nets, but largely she's just taking it easy today. She will make a point of keeping her distance from the DJ and music stage - while the local acts are decent enough, she wants nothing to do with hearing a certain sitcom theme for a tenth time.]
[C | a horrible mistake]
[At some point late in the afternoon, Alicia must have dozed off. It's the only explanation for why, some time after the sun has set, she comes back to herself a bit chilled and with the salty feeling of a day beachside on her skin. Her things are all still here, and her parasol has kept the sun off her face, but somehow she has a feeling that something is off still-?
That is answered for her as the titanic roar of two food trucks fills her awareness, and she slowly shakes off the sleepiness to find the ice cream truck barreling past her, having just swerved aside to avoid something that hadn't been cleared yet. It missed her cleanly without issue, but as it hits the water and sinks to its engine block, it kicks up a huge surge of water back in the direction it came from.
Which is where Alicia is drowsily watching the ocean come to meet her. At the last, she gets her parasol shifted just enough to keep her bag and book safe, a towel going over them as a last-second and barely-conscious thought, before the wave slams into her, the force of the water pushing her into the ground back-first, where it's a couple seconds before she lets out a pained groan.]
Ugh... that'll teach me to fall asleep. I was having a nice nap, too...

Maya's in a pretty good mood regardless - the play was somehow successful enough even with running into every trip up it possibly could, and nothing TOO weird had occurred in the past day or so. Plus, her name finally went back to normal on the network! (Which meant that maybe now she could use it again rather than retracting herself in shame.)
Equally dressed for sun and fun, she slides up to where the actress is set up, waving hurriedly the whole time, as if Alicia probably didn't catch her from the initial exclamation or something.]

He'd lived in Recollé for over five years now, so he'd been to the food truck rally before, but it had usually been a passing fancy—an opportunity to sample some of the more interesting and unique food that the city had to offer before drifting off to do whatever fell into the next time-slot. Micah regarded this day as something different. He wasn't exactly the type to count down the days on a calendar for something, but with as much as he'd been off-handedly mentioning it lately, he might as well have been—that was about as focused and excited on any event he'd seen to date.
Having witnessed Micah eat before (and the eighth wonder of the world, which was the miniature black hole that was the pit of his stomach), the event was almost daunting, in a way, but he couldn't even get marginally close to denying his enthusiasm—it was nice to see him so interested in something (and more than a little cute). So the plans were loosely structured and agreed-upon, leading to this morning, when Micah had (with Hush rustling around excitedly in the back of the car) picked him up in front of the dorm and driven them down towards the boardwalk (Hush climbing into Morgan's lap before they had even left the parking lot, of course).
Once there, he felt like a rudderless ship being hauled about by a particularly tenacious tugboat, making right on his promise to sample literally one of everything. Scanning around to see how many trucks and vendors had showed up today, well, he's happy that Micah was the way he was, because that might've killed a different person. Though perhaps him avoiding the trucks that didn't really swing for vegetarian options might've helped...
Speaking of. Morgan catches an earful of that promise as he's standing in front of a truck, buying a drink and a plate of barbecue that he'd beelined for as soon as he'd smelled it.] Oh? [He turns to peer at Micah, feigning hurt.] I thought that was my job.
[To be honest, he's concerned Hush doesn't have the stomach strength of his owner and didn't really want him getting sick. The rest of him is just trying to get even for all the (dozens of) times Micah has sniped food from his plate in the last few months.]

He's nowhere near athletic enough to participate himself (or so he tells himself), and would likely just make a ton of clumsy mistakes. Better to just watch from afar...]

[He stares at the stage for a long moment, sure that he heard wrong. But the announcer repeats the name for a third time and...yep. That's his name. The walk to the stage feels like it takes seconds; one moment he's in the crowd, and in the next he's on stage in front of everyone.
He swallows and accepts the prize, a card detailing a free dinner at a local restaurant for him and five guests. Part of him is bursting with excitement while the other half is breaking into a sweat.

[It's a great day for Augustine to take a day off and enjoy the Food Truck Rally. Not only it's a great time to unwind and enjoy what the beach and food trucks have to offer, but it is also a great way for him to socialize with other residents without having to use the Retrospec app all the time.
But what is surprising for him is that he won a raffle that he joined as he only did that because he wanted to support the event. Although after checking the prize he won, he wonders what he will do with a $30 Amazon gift card.
However, he is completely focused on contemplating about his prize, that he is unable to see a volleyball headed to his direction. Suffice to say, he was quickly knocked out after that.

II. Enjoying the Music
[After he sees Ainsley's musical act with her family, he decides to spend the rest of the night going around and try to find someone to dance with him as well try to meet new people.]

[ until it was time for her group's turn in the show, it was hard to find Yin anywhere that wasn't somewhere around the stage. getting her kit set up took a lot of time considering it was literally have a drum set but she still needed help getting it all to the main event and then put together. there was little to no time for warm-ups or a proper sound test so she just had to jump into things and hope for the best.
Yin isn't the one to do the introduction, but she is the one who seems to put the most effort into getting the crowd going at the start. going so far as to pull her lead guitarist's microphone down and giving the crowd an earful of her boisterous attitude. ] Just look at everyone out here, being all lazy and — stuff. [ oops, family friendly mouth = ON. ] Everyone's all full of greasy food and sugary drinks. [ she points out at the crowd with her stump. ] I know everyone here wants to just plant their butts on the sand and pass out into a food coma, but guess what Recollé? The sun's still up and you all need to WAKE. UP! Because we're not done with you.
I'm Yin Longwei, and these punk mothers with me are none other than The Leftovers. If I don't see you banging your heads by the end, I'm gonna take 'em myself. You hear? [ with some protest, she gives up the mic and makes her way back to the kit. the guitarist introduces the bass player and the band member on the synthesizer, as well as their vocalist. The Leftovers are just a local group of friends who play with other groups or solo (like Yin) and on occasion find time in their schedules to jam out like this together when their other acts are busy with school and stuff. it shows in their varied appearances, backgrounds, and musical stylings.
Yin runs things from the back. with her custom drums she keeps up despite her handicap, but her feet work three times as hard on the midi pedals and the mechanical ones as one might expect. there is a flurry of footwork and vicious attention to the symbals, snare, and toms, that means even the most delicate of beats have to be delivered in swift, firm strokes. there's no time for playing to the crowd or showing off anything fancy with her playing; the sound has to speak for itself and she is completely devoured in her focus on each track.
the setlist includes covers of several hard and fast rock songs, coupled with a few equally intense original pieces that lack actual vocals and try to dazzle the crowd with crazy time changes and technical showmanship. a level of playing that pushes Yin to the limits of what she can do with her body and mind being in the state that it's in, but even her playing is lost in the noise of the other instruments all jockeying for aural attention.
it goes so far that Yin almost leaps back into one more at the end of their assigned set until a band-mate comes to the back and grabs her shoulder to snap her out of her daze. soaked in sweat and grinning like a maniac, Yin dons her incredibly classy cap and begins to break down her kit.
once that's all stashed away on May's boat, Yin can be caught hanging around the main stage a while longer, chatting up friends or just seeing who the other acts are and what they're about. sooner or later though, it's time to abandon that post and stalk out to the real show here... ]
2) I Hunger
[ nothing like a hard set to really get the appetite going. whether it's part of her payment for today's work, or just blowing more of her allowance, Yin isn't holding back when it comes time to chow down. the young woman's staring at a particular stand now. the menu is... experimental, to say the least. she turns her purple eyes to the nearest passerby that so much as slows down to look and grins. ]
Grilled squid and mango cubes on a stick. You in? I'll eat anything once.
3) Millions of Peaches, Peaches for Free
[ the first feeling is alarm. seeing the one truck end up in the ocean was sort of funny, but it also brought great concern with it. surely no one was hurt by it, right? Yin found herself racing away from the sight; almost repulsed by the rubbernecking as much as anything else.
but it's the truck that crashed into the trees that really struck her like a blow to the chest. Yin stopped running, stumbling dead-eyed toward the spectacle. a lot of things raced through her mind just then. horrible memories, words that never made it past her lips. but once Yin stopped at the trees and planted one bare foot in the squishy mess of a ruined peach reality came back into view. she reached down and picked up one fuzzy fruit, brushed the sand off against her "Girls Just Wanna Have Guns" shirt and then took a bite of it.
if she spots anyone nearby, she'll just give them a lopsided smile, lips smeared with juices. ] Don't just stand there. Do something.
