It was a common occurrence to find Gladio out running with his dog, Rufus. Even more common, was the chance for someone to either catch him before, during, or after his daily hospital visits. Sure, as a cop, he was well-aware that having a very predictable pattern could be dangerous, but then... his pattern was only as predictable as his daily life itself. Some days, he went to the hospital before work. Some days, he went after. Some days, he used his lunch break. As for his off days, there was honestly no telling when he'd make it -- just that he would. Because he always went. It was the promise he'd made her (Acacia Amicia, his mother) on the very first day he went to visit... and it was a promise he'd move heaven and earth to keep, so long as he kept some form of control over his body.
On that day, he was going to be spending more time in the hospital than usual.
If any curious passerby decided to finally approach him, today was the day... though he'd be found either leaning against a wall, sitting in the waiting room, or pacing. He wouldn't be the first to say anything to anyone, even if he did know them. His mind was clearly on something, though he wasn't letting it show on his face whether it was something bad or not.

Drinking wasn't something he often did a ton of in one sitting, but he could be found grabbing one at a bar from time to time.
Most nights, he'd be slowly sipping one a beer... but some nights, he could be found going through a few drinks. On the former nights, he'd pleasantly greet anyone who happened to catch his eyes or even approach them to chat. On the latter nights, he was much more friendly and outgoing, tossing an arm around anyone he was past a first name basis with... or maybe offering to buy them a drink or two.
Whichever was the case, the bar was a place to catch him laughing or joking; perhaps he'd be there just for the socializing... or maybe he was there to catch some sports. Sure, he wasn't a big sports person, but it could be kind of hilarious to watch how into the games people could get. Whether fans of a losing team or winning team, people could get pretty damn rowdy (and... he was also there to be a voice of reason for those who got violent).

Something he hadn't made news for even those he was closest to, was that he was building a cabin (not that he made it a secret, of course; it would have been possible for a certain few to catch on to the fact).
Gladio could be found on every single off day (and sometimes on days he worked a shorter shift than usual) at a cabin -- well... the start of a cabin? Most times, he'd be there with Rufus -- his dog would be running around, usually chasing a ball or chewing on his bone (which he seemed to just love pushing through the dirt first).
For anyone approaching, they'd have to deal with Rufus practically trying to tackle them to the ground in excitement... unless the person knew the... "password" (saying "down" or a hand, palm facing Rufus, lifted to the chest in a gesture for him to lie on his belly/sit -- whichever the dog feels like at the time). While Gladio did have Rufus trained to listen, the dog was harmless towards harmless people who had no ill intentions. He wouldn't be hurting anyone beyond jumping on them for attempted snuggle time...
As for Gladio himself, he would be working hard to get the roof finished -- he was currently ensuring that it was weatherproof.

[ Of all of the many, many things Ryoga would never do, admit to wanting to give up first was not one of them. HE WAS READY, COACH. SUB HIM IN. ]
Although... perhaps we should report this?

If not for the fact that he nearly fell out of his tree, he might have been laughing about the whole thing. But, instead of laughing, he's flinching ever-so-slightly while yanking a large splinter from his finger. Damn it, of all the things...
Anyway, he totally followed after them, carefully avoiding the raccoon they did an A+ job at pissing off. Without bothering to hide his presence, he firmly drops a hand on each of their shoulders, leaning in so his head is level with theirs. ] Don't bother. I was there for the whole thing.
[ Totally staring right at you, Prompto, as he says those last two words. ]
sorry for skipping the order but when will this opportunity ever come again
Auuugh! Who...?
I SHOULD HAVE REFRESHED
screamyelp dies out when he turns around and sees that it's--one of those cops. gladiolus...? that's probably his name.]A-aw, man! Don't do that! You scared Ryoga!
[and totally scared him, too]
...are you also investigating the monster? [LIKE I TOLD YOU]
Re: I SHOULD HAVE REFRESHED
[ Okay, this was worth every moment of nearly falling out of a tree. Gladio is smirking very obviously as he lowers both hands back to his own sides. ]
Yeah... sure. Only your friend, here, had the crap scared out of him. [ Then, the smirk is gone as soon as he's asked that question. ] The hell...? Do I look like I have time for paranormal crap?
[ ...Yeah, he's just going to fold his arms over his chest and take a moment to think. And to look from Prompto to Ryoga. ] I just came out here because I happened to be passing by the area. And to make sure no idiot kids were wasting time they could be using on studying, to get even more involved.

What happened to your hand?
no subject
[and he does that by turning to ryoga, side-stepping away from gladiolus so he can face them both]
Probably found what we were looking for and punched it away.
[those Guns; impossible not to see them and to not be jealous]
no subject
... [ Oh.
Right.
His hand. He'd forgotten all about it, but he is glancing down at it... ...right as it's mentioned that he probably punched away some legendary monster. ] Gotta say, I kinda wish it was something that awesome.
[ Not only is he smirking, but he's trying very hard not to laugh here. ] Afraid the truth about my hand is way less exciting, since it just involves me bein' in a tree.
tagging order??? whats that
[consider this a very dramatically pronounced, head-shaking in disbelief question:]
Why? Why were you in a tree?
[you crush his imagining, this is what you get]
no subject
[ For what other reason would a suspicious guy be in a tree that's right there was no other reason. ]
no subject
That's the creepiest thing I've heard.
[how the turn tables]
no subject
... :| ]
The hell makes you think that? I'm a cop, not a creep. I had my reasons.
[ ...Sigh. ] Fine. I figured I could put some idiots' minds to rest by doing my own investigation.
no subject
[ Well, that did take guts. Ryoga looked at Prompto. ]
Are you two friends?
no subject
Nah, I know him from the police station. Anyway, did you find anything?
no subject
Yeah. [ To them knowing each other from the police station. Gladio properly focuses his gaze on Ryoga and nods as his means of an official greeting... of sorts. ] Officer Amicia... though most people just call me Gladio. It's easier to remember.
[ And as for that other question, he's casting a glance at Prompto, faintest of smirks forming as he says in an overly casual tone. ]
Sure did. I found two idiots gettin' chased by some of the wildlife around here. [ Caaaaaaaasually just glancing at his phone now. ] Wonder how many comments I'd get from posting a video of somethin' like that...
[ Did he really catch that on video? Is he just messing with them? The world may never know. ]
no subject
[ If it sounded like Ryoga was a little iffy on the likeliness of this particular idea, it was only because he was. Gladio didn't seem very... officerly. Watching teenagers getting chased down by aggressive animals, then posting a recording? ]
Wouldn't that get you an official reprimand?
no subject
[prompto is quick to offer, because... well, it's fun to finally be able to tease gladio, even if prompto knows he could get his ass handed to him]
[casually side steps behind ryoga]
Besides! I didn't think you cared about online popularity?
no subject
[ No, he's not actually upset -- the very belated swat towards where Prompto was once standing will possibly make that clear. But, there is a certain... look(? feeling? something in-between) in his eyes. Something's there that might just reveal that that's the last thing he could ever want to be.
Looks like Prompto found one of those sore spots -- congrats. For once, he's the one ruffling Gladio's feathers. The older man folds his arms over his chest, just slightly gesturing with one hand as he responds. ] It's called a joke. Anyway, soon as I saw it was you guys, I deleted the video. Don't got the space on my phone for crap like that.
[
Too many pictures and videos of his dogbut, anyway... ] Besides, you're right: the last thing I care about -- or have time for -- is online popularity.no subject
[prompto grins, shuffling on his feet and managing a playful punch to one of gladio's biceps. damn, son]
It's probably a good thing you don't care about it, 'cause you and an Instagram account would rack up so many followers! [basically, you're the type of attractive both guys and girls want on their feed; one for aesthetic, the other for-- you know. anyway] Kudos to you on your resolve!
[prompto is not a single bit worried that gladio would do anything to in any way put them in danger or trouble]
But say, were you following the tip I gave you? Ah~ I feel a bit safer knowing the cops are onto this... Right, Ryoga?
