Izakaya Drunkenness [OPEN]
WHO: Derek, Tatsuo, and Anyone else who is sad Japan lost Asia Cup 2019
WHERE: Some low key Izakaya in Tribunal Terrace
WHEN:Early to late evening (after 5pm) Feb 1, 2019
WHAT: Japan lost Asia Cup and Derek is being a supportive friend and helping Tatsuo mourn
WARNINGS: Drinking, alcohol, drunken crying, which will probably carry over into the Retrospec post

Derek, like any other ardent soccer fan, was following Asia Cup very closely. He check in on the game during lunch and was later sad to find that Japan lost. Due to Tatsuo being one of his close friend, his only choice was to support Japan and he was really hoping that they would win. Sadly, his hopes were replaced with disappointment. Of course, no one was a sad as Tatsuo. The look of forlorn sadness made Tatsuo look like a puppy that had been kicked multiple times. This only meant one option: Cheer Tatsuo up by taking him out for sake and food. What else was there to do? Tatsuo was there for him when Japan lost and then France's win in FIFA, so the only logical solution was to do the same for Tatsuo.
Instead of doing work he looked up an Izakaya, and sent out a text through all of Retrospec:
Due to Japan's loss in Asia Cup today, I mourn in the solemn moment for anyone else that was supporting Japan in hopes of a victory. I, as a supportive friend, am dragging Tatsuo to [insert name of place] Izakaya in Tribunal Terrace after work (after 5pm) and will probably be there for many hours. All others heart broken due to the result of the cup are welcome to come and join us in drinking sake, eating various food (yakitori, curry, omurice, yakisoba, etc.), and supporting each other in this sad loss. May Japan win next Asia Cup!
A bit of a dramatic text, but when is Derek never dramatic?
When 5pm hits, Derek drags Tatsuo to the Izakaya and starts ordering food. The establishment is small and quaint, but Derek heard the menu selection and food was excellent. And the place had good ratings on google.
If you come by, you will see Tatsuo and Derek probably on their 2nd or 3rd bottle of sake with various plates on the table. Join them and experience what it will be like to be around two very drunk CSI. Not there yet... but they will be.

[Derek reaches over and pours Tatsuo some sake into a glass until it starts to overflow into the class it is setting in.]
There ya go mate. Drink your sadness away.
[He then nudges a plate of chicken yakisoba towards him too.]
But don't forget to eat.
[He then picks up a stick of grilled chicken hearts and starts eating them off the stick one by one.]
II. OPEN TO ALL
So, you've decided to join the two blokes who are fairly drunk who are upset over a soccer match. Good choice. Derek will see you and open his arms wide with a goofy grin!
"Come! Join us!"
He lowers his arms and reaches for an empty glass and start to fill it.
"Japan's opportunity for a 5th Asia Cup title has been horrendously taken away."
Once the sake starts to overflow into the cup below it, Derek stops and offers the drink to you.
"Drink, in honor of the great battle fought by the country of the rising sun."
This is of course said with a really straight face.
II.
And among the three of them, Bakhura is probably the only one who is, at least for now, being a committed Egypt fan himself. Still, he's not entirely unsympathetic, having an avid interest in Japanese media himself, as well as in the cheap meal his empathy is going to be affording him tonight.
"I thought you said you weren't going to be giving me any alcohol?"
Re: II.
I knew that...
[He drinks the sake until the glass is half empty.]
Then order what you want. We have some food still, but if there is anything you want just order it. And something without alcohol. Tatsuo and I are strictly drinking sake tonight.
no subject
I'll start with whatever you've got left of that yakisoba there... [ he'll help himself to a plate, piling the noodles with the front of his chopsticks the improper way. ]
...though to be honest, I'm surprised that either of you have the energy to eat after a loss like that. If The Pharaohs had lost like that, I would have just crawled into bed and slept the rest of the day away.
[ And crawl into bed and sleep the rest of the day away is exactly what he did the moment he had a chance when Egypt had been knocked out of the World Cup a few years ago -- Salah had so much promise and yet... ]
no subject
We could have crawled into bed and cried, but then we'd feel sad. Food and drink is the answer when you are sad. Booze to numb the pain and food to make it last longer.
no subject
[ The drinking age in this country baffles Bakhura even though he was born and raised here, being acquainted enough with his parents' families' culture to know that it's only 18 in Egypt - at least for beer.
Not wanting to get into that debate in the middle of what was supposed to be a party, however, he'll start shoveling some yakisoba into his mouth as if to emphasize his point. ]
no subject
[Derek points a finger at Bakura.]
You have one more option... chocolate.
no subject
[ Bakhura is visibly shuddering at the thought, the cheap and bitter taste of that mass-produced monstrosity on the tip of his tongue. Even though he's grown up in the United States, he knows there's better options out there. ]
Since you seem to be an advocate for the kind that actually works as a pick-me-up, though, have you got any on you?
no subject
[Derek stands up and walk over to the counter, talking for a few seconds. He comes back and tosses a box of Pocky at Bakura.]
There ya go. Japan's finest.
no subject
Pocky...? That's more biscuit than chocolate, though.
[ The wrap is tearing even as he's "complaining", and before long, said biscuit is in his mouth. ]
no subject
Says the kid whose already eating it.
[Derek reaches over and takes one out of the box and sticks it in his mouth.]
We're in a Japanese izakaya, what kind of chocolate were you expecting?
no subject
Haven't been since the end of October, actually.
[ Because you know, 3-4 months is a long time to be a Legal Adult, and being a Legal Adult and actually being An Adult are totally the same thing. ]
no subject
[Derek picks up a yakitori and then slides the plate over to Bakhura.]
no subject
[ He'll snatch a few yakitori for himself before Derek can take the plate away. ]
no subject
[Derek takes a drink of sake and then coughs.]
It makes me a proper adult. Done university, graduated with two degrees, I have a full time job, paying off my loans, I rent my own apartment, and I own a cat AND an owl. You?
no subject
But if being younger than you is enough to mean that I'll always be a kid to you no matter how old I get, then being older than me is enough to mean that you'll always be an old man to me no matter how many accomplishments you have.
Meanwhile, I still have plenty of time to worry about all of those things even though I'm legally an adult, at least two of which aren't going to be on my list once I graduate.
no subject
A kid a kid. Accept your fate. Call me Sensei!
[He then swings an arm around Bakhura's shoulder. With is free hand he grabs a piece of Tamagoyaki and attempts to shove it in Bakhura's mouth.]
Eat, eat, eat!
no subject
Not if you're going to call me a kid, عمّ.
[ No, he's not going to translate that, because his mouth is full right now and that's rude. ]
no subject
[That's what that sounded like to Derek.]
Don't you mean Nom?... But yes, it is yummy isn't it.
[Derek reaches over and grabs another tomagoyaki.]
Here have another.
[He places it on a plate in front of Bakhura. He then grabs a stick of yakitori and places that on the plate too.]
Oh you should also tries these...
[And then Derek just keeps placing pieces of food on Bakhura's plate... yup... he's getting pretty drunk...]
I
Oops.
[He sips a little of the sake before setting it back down, wiping the spill up with a napkin, and reaching for the chicken skewer.]
Technically you can't drink sadness away, Derek. Pretty sure that's what my uni bio professor would say.
Re: I
Why don't we perform an experiment and try to prove him wrong?
Re: I
Because alcohol poisoning is bad? How about I just eat my sadness away instead?
[srsly Derek, are you trying to kill him?]
Re: I
[Derek holds up his phone with a message from Mariko.]
Mariko says it should be pretty. Though I'm not sure her definition of "pretty."
Re: I
You can get a tattoo if you want, but I think I'm good.
Re: I
[Derek looks at the phone screen then back at Tatsuo.]
What's Mariko's favorite flower?
Re: I
[Tatsuo shakes his head]
Nope. Not happening.
Re: I
Re: I
How about you get a tattoo of Blaise and Bronte?
Re: I
One does not put a tattoo of their pet on them. It's a girlfriends name... or flower. Which I have neither. Thus it is now thrust upon you to fulfill it my friend.
Re: I
People totally do too get tattoos of their pets.
[and Tatsuo will google 'tattoo of my pet' right then and there to prove Derek wrong]
Look. Some of them even look decent.
Re: I
This isn't about me, this is about you and you're need for a tattoo. You're highly more qualified for this experience compared to me.
Re: I
No. Stop projecting on me. You want a big old tat on your back of Bronte. Face it.
Re: I
[Derek pushes Tatsuo's phone out of is face and back towards Tatsuo!]
Accept your fate!
II
...Ah, the offer is tempting, but at the end of the day, Rean is a boy scout.]
Sorry, gonna have to refuse you on that one. Only 20, remember? But I'm with you in spirit.
[He digs out his wallet (attached with a chain to his belt loop, like a 2008 emo kid), then pulls out a five dollar bill and sets it on the table.]
As promised. To the land of the rising sun.
[So serious... these dorks.]
Re: II
I guess I'll have to take one for the team and drink this one too... but YES! To Japan! May they win the next OLYMPICS!
[Derek takes a few gulps of sake.]
no subject
Playing along, he puts a hand over his heart in agreement.]
Indeed.
...Aren't they hosting, too?
no subject
[Derek tips the glass back again.]
Which means they will have home field advantage! They must win!... or... at least get 2nd... right after England.
[Derek knows where he true loyalty lies.]
no subject
[Rean's just going to slip into a seat.]
I mean, I'm from here, so I guess by that logic I have to hope we get the bronze. Doesn't sound like a bad top three, though!
no subject
Since when has the US team ever been good?
no subject
I can't say you don't have a point, but come on. I feel like we have to at least pretend to have hope.
no subject
Whatever helps you sleep at night dude.
no subject
Tatsuo slowly sips a cup of sake, before turning to the person next to him.]
Nine goals! The man made nine goals. I mean, sure, four of them were against North Korea. But still!
[There was an entire conversation that preceded that comment, but it happened entirely in Tatsuo's head.]
