[CLOSED] we pray for the light to reign
WHO: Akira Turner (Light Yagami), Akira Kurusu, Goro Akechi, Yusuke Kitagawa, Elliot Craig, James Barnes, Tatsuo, Eren Jaeger, Derek Matthews
WHERE: Light Yagami's Murder Palace
WHEN: December 10th through December 25th
WHAT: Akira Turner AKA Light Yagami's ego has amassed in the creation of a Palace.
WARNINGS: Violence, talks of crime, death, punishment, murder
[ Upon entering the Palace, characters will find themselves...in Recolle. That's right--the Palace is the entire city of Recolle, his true domain. But what was once a city is now a desolate landscape. There seems to be nothing for miles and miles around, but if one looks to the east, something glimmers in the distance. Characters should go towards that light.
The trip may be long, but it won't be uneventful. There are a strange plethora of humanoid monsters that characters will encounter. Luckily, most seem uninterested in engaging with characters, however if they are taunted or goaded into action, they have abilities that drain the life from attackers.
Finally, the source of the light begins to become into view. It’s a temple, a large gothic cathedral, consisting of stories upon stories. The architecture inside matches the same theme, dimly lit hallways made of stone. It’s a maze with large open spaces as well as winding corridors. At first it seems generic, but the higher in the structure characters go, there begin to be clear indications of just what this temple worships. Yes, even in a hall of worship there is a big fuck off statue of Akira Turner in the center.
More of those gangly creatures may make an appearance in the temple, but characters really need to look out for the worshipers, who will destroy non-believers on the spot.
There is one creature in particular who is depicted in a lot of the art and will even make a physical appearance now and then. It tends to hang in the shadows, but if you entertain it, it may entertain a question or two. Just don’t bank on it. ]

TASK THREE: High School Music Redux
[ The third block of the Palace consists of more hallways, but now more grand and open than before. There are several split off rooms that appear to be libraries or studies, but mostly they are different areas and rooms of worship. The number of Devotees (Shadows) is greatly concentrated in these rooms and they do not like being disturbed from worshipping the statues of their God. The Great Cathedral sits above, though only those who have gained true favor with the Light may go there. Your group does not have that favor.
Yet.
Pay attention to the patterns and whispers of the worshippers. Some may mention a heretic that has been locked up and away in the priest's quarters. Others will mention a gatekeeper that set their God free upon the masses to pass judgment, as any God should. Clues from both will lead to the same place:
One of the smaller rooms of worship, but less populated. Behind the preacher's podium is a door that leads down to a secret chamber. A chamber that looks much like Zee's Office. There they will find Zee's Shadow, dressed in the garb of a cultist priest, though his face is greatly disordered in a blackish mist.
Gain his knowledge and favor to be granted passage. ]

Even if he's almost immediately sorry that he did. He's getting way too many similar vibes to the tomb his group had visited the August before last. And when he catches sight of the massive cathedral above them? That's not creepy at all.
At least the hallways have started to widen, so it doesn't feel so cramped anymore?
Tatsuo gestures at the Cathedral in the distance.]
$10 says we're going to end up there at some point.
no subject
Well, he better be up there, then, because I'm starting to run out of patience.
[ He just wants to find Akira Turner and punch the smug superiority and murderous intent right out of him. Along with his teeth, preferably. ]
no subject
[But he's not really keen on just wandering around, trying to find the right path. He'd much rather ask someone for directions.
Tatsuo tilts his head toward one of the rooms.]
Maybe one of his flunkies knows.
no subject
[ James would really rather not talk to them, but Tatsuo's right--it's the easiest/most direct way to find out. So he enters one of the rooms and asks how to get up to the cathedral. The followers look down on him in both pity and condescension before one pipes up:
"Only those who truly devote themselves to His Greatness and have earned His praise can go up there." And then, snottily, as if James is too dense to get the point: "So, not you."
James walks out of the room, somehow looking even sourer than before. ]
Great. So even if they know, they're not gonna tell us.
no subject
Maybe we need to be a bit more... indirect. They may not say anything to our faces, but surely they talk among themselves. Let's try to... blend in a bit more.
[Quick, time to find some worshipers to knock out and steal their robes.]
no subject
[ James starts looking around at the small worship rooms, peeking through each one to see which ones open at the back of the room. Once he finds one that does, he creaks it open slowly, then snatches the nearest worshipper from the back row. With one hand over the creature's mouth, he slowly guides them out as if they're casually walking out, then shuts the door again behind him. ]
Here. [ He jerks his head over at Tatsuo. ] Grab his clothes.
no subject
Hmmm, I think these are more your size than mine. Can you find a smaller one?
no subject
Fine. Knock this one out so he doesn't cause a ruckus while I go get another one.
[ And with that, he goes sneaking down to another few worship rooms, now looking for not only a room that opens in the back, but also one where the worshipper nearest the door is smaller. It takes him a good several tries--lucky for him, there's plenty of these stupid rooms full of idiots--but he eventually finds one. James stealthily grabs them out of the worship room and, hand over whatever passes for their mouth, drags them over to Tatsuo. ]
How's this one look?
no subject
Yeah, that looks closer to my size.
[He gets this worshiper divested as well.]
We better hurry, before they realize their friends are missing.
no subject
Whatever. If anyone asks, just say they went to the little cultists' room.
[ He grabs the door for one of the back-opening rooms and pulls it open, waving Tatsuo in as he quietly enters. ]
no subject
But how to get these people to let slip how to get to the cathedral...]
Did you hear about the two strangers?
[That's subtle... right?]
no subject
Oh yeah. But they won't last long here. The gatekeeper will set the Lord free and then they'll pay!
Please, as if they're important enough for that. They'll just get locked up like the heretic.
Shh, who cares about them! What happened to devotion and wholehearted praying?
James lets his hand fall off his face and gives Tatsuo a pointed look. There's something here they can work with, for sure. ]
no subject
[Tatsuo raises an eyebrow in return. See? Never discount office gossip.
He's not too sure he likes the sound of this gatekeeper person, but the heretic sounds promising. The heretic would be opposed to Turner and his little mind minions, and thus could prove helpful to Tatsuo and James. If they could find where the heretic is being locked up and release them...]
Why do we even keep the heretic around anyway? They don't believe.
no subject
A cautionary tale!
He must be converted. I bet that's what the gatekeeper's doing.
Well, I think he's being stored for a live sacrifice someday.
Ugh, stop trying to make live sacrifices happen, they're never going to happen! ]
no subject
I dunno, I think a live sacrifice would make a big statement. But... has anyone actually seen the heretic? Like... in person?
[Hopefully spitting on the heretic isn't part of the initiation ceremony...]
no subject
I have! Or, I think it was him, at least. He peeked out of one of the smaller worship rooms, just for a second. It was upstairs that way. The follower points in the direction of the room.
James coughs pointedly. That's a decent enough lead, as far as he's concerned, they should take their leave now and go find that room. ]
no subject
[Tatsuo nods his head a tiny fraction.]
Good to know. Though, I think I'm going to avoid him, personally. Don't want his filthy heresy spreading.
[And he tries to get up as casually as possible so him and James can make their exit. Only, one of the worshipers seems to think he's trying to slip out Mass too early.
Hey, where do you think you are going? We've got another six hours of devotion and you know there's no breaks.]
no subject
Uh, we just need to step out for a second to...relieve ourselves. Don't want to soil the holy robes and all. We'll be back in a minute.
[ And then he makes his exit before the worshipper can respond. Better to get out of dodge than wait for a potentially lousy reaction. He starts looking around in the direction of where the heretic is supposed to be, and spots a few rooms higher up in the tower that seem to fit the bill. He points it out to Tatsuo. ]
I bet it's one of those. We just have to take the stairs a little bit higher to get there.
[ And he wastes no time in starting to climb them. The quicker they get away from the suspicious worshipper, the better. Who knows if they'll give chase, after all. ]
no subject
[Tatsuo is right on James's heels, because he really doesn't fancy some six hour stint of kneeling and obeisances.
They're about halfway up the stairs when there's a bellow from below.
Come back here and purge your bodies of their weaknesses! Deny the limitations of your flesh if you wish to more perfectly follow the Light!
Oh yeah. They're definitely being followed.]
Well shit.
no subject
It's too big of a room to be the right one, though. So James quietly shuts it and moves on to the next silently. Better not to shout something to Tatsuo that will alert the worshippers in the room, even behind a closed door. ]
no subject
[Tatsuo meanwhile waits until the first worshiper chasing after them reaches the top of the stairs... then just shoves the guy down on the ones following after him. If anyone hears the multiple thuds or yelling... he can claim someone tripped ro something... right?]
no subject
He gets back to checking the rooms. On the last of the three rooms in this area, he swings the door wide open. It's the smallest worship room and, thankfully, it's empty right now. And what's more, the area of the room behind the preacher's podium looks different than in any other room he's seen so far. He doesn't know what it means, but it has to be another indicator that this is the right place.
He waves Tatsuo over. ]
Here, I found it!
no subject
[If they'd been real people and not figments of Turner's psyche, then he might have had some reservations about it. But they weren't real, so Tatsuo isn't going to pull punches.
He catches up to James and looks into the small room.]
Yeah, this looks different from the others. Worth checking out.
[He ducks into the room, because sooner or later, those worshipers he tumbled down the stairs are going to get back up.]
no subject
James sighs as he comes down from the energy of the chase and looks around. ]
...Okay. No heretic. Let's just start searching--they said he was locked up here somewhere. So maybe he's just being hidden.
[ Although he isn't sure where--there's not a lot of hidden nooks or crannies here. Still, he looks in the most obvious places first--in a cabinet full of relics and under each of the pews. ]
