[Maybe you weren't even in line of sight of Shuji. Just about everyone has a reason to be out and about on a Saruday afternoon, and nobody wants their day interrupted by the ground falling out from under them. Maybe you don't even instantly recognize that the library entrance you fall into would be part of Shuji's subconscious and not anybody else's.

This is how things ended up for you today, unfortunately. Might as well take a look around and see if you can't spot the man himself.

[ john pauses at that. that's definitely weird.

... it does have his name on it, and this is--allegedly--a public library, even if there doesn't seem to be anyone else around. hmm. he pulls at that book, then, staring at its cover. if it's not too weird, he'll open it to its first page. ]

[The cover is a blank red, nothing to see here.

It shows a memory John probably still recalls - just from the other perspective.]

[ oh, goodness

that's... surprising. he didn't expect something so nice, even if the memory does take a turn at some point. it's one of john's fonder memories with shuji (as much as he cherishes them all), but still-- it's also something that's private, in a library!!

what if he doesn't move to put this book back and instead just tries to discreetly shove it into his jacket, what then. ]

[No one's going to stop him or anything. That probably won't have unfortunate side effects.]

well, john will probably shove that away... soon. he leafs through the rest of the pages, realizing he should probably get to what he was doing (finding something? someone...? it's so fuzzy); anything more notable to be seen? ]

[The pages show more memories - this one is next - and the more John holds onto it, the more he'll be filled with warm and fuzzy feelings about himself. The platonic love Shuji has for his best friend is real and powerful.]

[ wow. who knew how many of these memories were so embarrassing!!

and the warm and fuzzy feelings are... different; like something intrusive and foreign. not bad, just different. john's definitely closing that nad tucking the book away into his jacket. any other book titles that jump out at him? ]

[There's lots of recognizable names: Chuuya, Atsushi, Oda... Howard's is on a high shelf, it might be tough to reach.]

[ oof, that is many names. and john thinks that he could grab them all and run, except he can't he doesn't have a cart or the armspace and that's stupid, but howard's does get him to doubletake.

looks like it's time to drag a ladder over. if he can do that and climb it up, he'll be pulling howard's book from the shelf. ... but not opening it, just yet. is the cover red as well, anything to it? ]

[The ladder doesn't shake under him, but the moment he steps on even the bottom rung he'll feel uneasy.

The cover is red! They all seem to have pretty much the same cover.]

[ that unease that floods over him is unsettling, to the say the least-- heights aren't his favorite, but he's isn't scared of any ladders, so that's difficult to parse why.

... the unease is enough that he won't tuck it away, though. and even if he's curious, he won't open it after all; whatever's transpired can stay for howard and shuji to tell. he replaces the book just a shelf higher. ]

[The unease won't stop until John gets off the ladder, but let it be known that John is a good bean.]

[ so john's finally disembarking, replacing the ladder from where he's originally tugged it over. he knows that it's been time to leave. ]
