OPEN ⟹ [that yelling art meme from the iron giant goes here]
WHO: Yusuke (
fabrefactions) and anyone in the area who likes the idea of chALK ART
WHERE: Outside Palettes.
WHEN: 7/15
WHAT: just chalk art. Also, pictionary and probably shenanigans.
WARNINGS: I'm willing to bet money someone draws a dick.

{ chalk art }
[ Anyone wandering past Palettes today might be forgiven for thinking the store itself had exploded out onto the street outside - there are boxes of brightly coloured chalks, some open, others still sealed, littering the paving slabs, and selections of cloths, water, and liquid chalk markers seem to be dotted around randomly.
For those trying to actually get into the store, not only is there an obstacle course of art supplies to get through, there's also Yusuke. And Yusuke is budging for no one. He's completely absorbed in what he's doing - streaks of chalk dust littering his arms and one streak smudged across his cheek, as he works on his temporary art piece with all the attention he'd give something permanent or on canvas.
To be fair to him though, he's keeping his work to a square no bigger than a large canvas, leaving plenty of street space for other people to join him and let their own creativity run wild. In fact, the layout seems to be set up with some thought to other people joining in... so why not go for it?]
{ pictionary }
[ Amidst all the chalk art, there is a section of pavement and chalk boxes just off to the side of Palettes itself that seems to haven been kept clear on purpose. Alongside the supplies for drawing, someone has left a game box propped up against the window of the shop, with the instructions for how to play Pictionary sellotaped neatly to the glass itself. There's even a little chalk board on an easel propped up in the same place.
So, if expressing yourself through the expressive and exciting medium of chalk art isn't your thing, why not indulge yourself in a nice, friendly and not at all frustrating game of pictionary?
But with chalk. ]
{ buy things }
[ When it comes down to it though, Palettes is still a business and still doing its best to earn money. And seeing as half the shop has spilled outside, there are a couple of little sales set ups near by. Selling chalk, pens, pencils, sketchbooks, like a literal high light reel of what the shop itself has to offer.
Maybe you've been inspired, and want to quit your job and design the next big thing in the world of art? Well, luckily for you, Palettes has a sketch pad for that. And canvas. And paint sets.
Everything.
Buy it. ]
{ wildcard }
[ You literally have access to all the chalk, art supplies in general and space to go buck wild and do whatever you want. Go wild, chalk the town red. Play some games. Have a good, good time. ]

[ He actually ... likes that a lot. The realism and softness of the scene, and the charming, colourful sea creatures that have been popping up to the sides of it. ]
I imagine it must be. There are some strange and beautiful things to be found under the ocean - scary as well, but there are things there that push the limits of imagination.

[Roji had figured his addition could be an inspiration piece, but Yusuke calling it a collaberation sounds so wonderful. He’s happy it all went over well! He smiles and crouches back over his ocean critters, adding to their numbers.]
Definitely. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the ocean...and probably way more species of animals we’ve never seen before.
[The latest addition is a jellyfish! A good animal to emphasize beauty and mystery with.]
Beyond that though, I bet the crabs would enjoy your beach, too!

Some of them have far too many teeth, but... still. I have to commend nature for adapting as it does.
[ WaFtY TeNtAcLes. They actually look very fun to draw... hmm. He plucks up a piece of chalk and shift to the opposite side of his beach scene. His own sketch of a jellyfish is different - but he's putting plenty of effort into the long wafting tentacles and seeming as though it is bobbing within a wave. ]
I hope so. Perhaps they do, already. The sketch is based off the beaches around the city, after all.

[As he’s saying that, he looks over to see what Yusuke’s working on... Ah! Oh no Yusuke’s jellyfish is super cute too.]
At least there’s nothing against us focusing on the cute ocean life!
[As for the topic of the beach itself...]
Oh wow, I hadn’t realized! I haven’t gotten to the beach as often as I’d like- work and all. But this makes it super tempting...

They say we know less about the ocean than space - which is eye opening, given that we co-exist alongside it in much closer quarters.
[ This must be remedied!! ]
I definitely recommend it - it doesn't cost anything other than travelling there and any snacks you may wish to take, and the views in the evening are truly wonderful. I had said I wanted to draw it, someday. [ He looks down at the main piece again. ] I hadn't envisioned it in chalk, but it worked out better than I expected.

It seriously looks great! I was blown away when I first saw it. It’s like a chalk painting!
[Yusuke’s pitch pushed the temptation even further, and he’s definitely considering a visit of his own. He takes another look at the painting as well.]
Is that a specific landmark that stuck with you on a visit?

[ Mm. He can remember it, both well and fondly. Even the part where a guy's hair got lit on fire, but he's not remembering that quite as much on purpose. ]
Everything about it was very beautiful. My company was good too, which helped but... the colours, the light reflecting off the water, the setting sun mirrored in the ocean...
[ Yes. ] Painting it in watercolours would be good too.

[He listens to Yusuke's description of his visit, smiling all the while. He can tell the trip had a very positive effect on Yusuke, and that's nice!]
Ooh, yeah, evening sounds like the best time to be there when you get colors like that! I bet the sun was a little less intense, too.

[ Yes, a photograph is a good idea. He'll take one in a moment. ]
It was muted, and yet alluring and alive in a way I did not expect. I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself. At least once, if not more times.
The sight may look different in different seasons - when the light is sparse in the Winter, or new and fresh in the Spring.
