[ Anyone wandering past Palettes today might be forgiven for thinking the store itself had exploded out onto the street outside - there are boxes of brightly coloured chalks, some open, others still sealed, littering the paving slabs, and selections of cloths, water, and liquid chalk markers seem to be dotted around randomly.

For those trying to actually get into the store, not only is there an obstacle course of art supplies to get through, there's also Yusuke. And Yusuke is budging for no one. He's completely absorbed in what he's doing - streaks of chalk dust littering his arms and one streak smudged across his cheek, as he works on his temporary art piece with all the attention he'd give something permanent or on canvas.

To be fair to him though, he's keeping his work to a square no bigger than a large canvas, leaving plenty of street space for other people to join him and let their own creativity run wild. In fact, the layout seems to be set up with some thought to other people joining in... so why not go for it?]

[ Amidst all the chalk art, there is a section of pavement and chalk boxes just off to the side of Palettes itself that seems to haven been kept clear on purpose. Alongside the supplies for drawing, someone has left a game box propped up against the window of the shop, with the instructions for how to play Pictionary sellotaped neatly to the glass itself. There's even a little chalk board on an easel propped up in the same place.

So, if expressing yourself through the expressive and exciting medium of chalk art isn't your thing, why not indulge yourself in a nice, friendly and not at all frustrating game of pictionary?

[ When it comes down to it though, Palettes is still a business and still doing its best to earn money. And seeing as half the shop has spilled outside, there are a couple of little sales set ups near by. Selling chalk, pens, pencils, sketchbooks, like a literal high light reel of what the shop itself has to offer.

[ gamzee’s all over this . . . in the form of working on his piece all day and into night time, maybe taking a nap somewhere on a bench, and soon enough, insomnia kicks in and he’s at it again. during the day, those who come across this half of the street will be met with an optical illusion. no facepaint for him today, so it might be odd to see a clean faced gamzee— he holds phone up. ]

[ Well, honestly Nanashi isn't the most artistic person on the block. He's terrible at drawing so ...the only thing he can produce is stick people.

[ okay but. here's a tale: before yusuke began dating sanji, sanji drew him a shitty joke cartoon of an egg called jimmy that he barely tried to make look good, and yusuke gave him sincere and honest critique to the point that the cartoon lives on, and is being artistically improved on each time it is drawn.

Is this your first attempt at drawing with chalk? [ Yusuke it is literally a stick figure. ] Personally I found that more abstract scenes are easier to work with in chalk - less minute details and more focus on the general composition.

Do I usually look that frowny? I had not realised.

Ah, thank you. I'm still fairly new to using chalk, so I'm trying to put in some extra effort.

[ while souji won't spill his bottle of water all over yusuke's chalk art (probably), jouhei will. he's actually walking by with a cup of coffee when he accidentally trips over an uneven sidewalk. he doesn't go falling, he manages to catch himself after a few steps, but his grip on his cup was loose. it goes flying out of his hands and then... all over yusuke's chalk art :') ]

[ jouhei goes from staring at his dropped cup of coffee to the ruined chalk art and then to yusuke. there is a prolonged silence before jouhei finally speaks ]

[All the excitement outside of Palettes pulls Roji right in as he's idly passing through the area. All the painting he had to do a few months back got him more interested in art, and the idea of doing a little chalk art sounds pretty appealing! He hasn't done anything like that since he was a kid.

Grabbing some pieces of chalk here and there, he takes a look at the existing art on the ground...and stops at Yusuke's beautiful piece.]

Wow.

[His awe kind of escapes out of him- he's just really amazed by what Yusuke's done with simple chalk! After a moment or two of contemplation and an idea having come to mind, he crouches down nearby.]

Is it okay if I do some art over here?

[He's addressing Yusuke. He's not sure if Yusuke plans to add to his piece and he doesn't want to end up in the way of that.]

[ Coming out of his art zone in 3... 2... 1... ]

Oh, certainly. I'm not going out of this section here, so the rest of the pavement is yours for the taking.

[ He's glancing over at Roji, noting he has a box of chalk already. But he does take a moment to reach over and pull a fresh box of colourful chalks towards himself, and then he's holding it out. ]

Take these as well, if you like. We've--[ And he glance around at. Well. All the chalk boxes everywhere. ]-- definitely got enough supplies.

[Wow, that was some serious concentration. Roji smiles when he gets permission and starts rummaging through the chalk he picked up, but then Yusuke hands him some more.]

Oh, thanks! [Ah-] Double thanks, actually! I’ve got the perfect idea.

[He takes a little bit of both from the sets of chalk and gets to work. He’s drawing...some ocean life. Octopuses, crabs, squid...maybe a clam or two. Did he get inspiration from Yusuke’s painting...? Entirely possible. Either way, they’re not too bad. More on the cutesy side than anything.]

He's used to this from Yusuke, they're mochis. This time though, this is not to bug Y-mochi to eat by R-,E-, or K-mochi. Kazuki's kneeling down next to Yusuke, staring at his work in awe and confusion. first things first though. ]

Oi, Yu-su-ke! I'm taking one of your oranges.

[ He's talking about the orange bit of chalk leftover from his work on the sunset piece, not fruits. ]

Yusuke's hand reaches out without looking, and picks up his orange chalk. He's still using it. Don't be rude. Once he has his precious chalk safely away from the thief, he nudges a fresh pack of chalk at him.

There's a whole orange in there. Just for Kazoozooki. ]

I'm still using the ones I have one, so I would prefer if you did not.

[ Chalk isn't really his medium, but the concept is sort of the same... layers. So he's busy working on his own orange skyline, pausing when he realizes he's sort of

[ Yusuke glances up from his work, but doesn't seem to be overly concerned by the way Tsukasa's artwork is creeping all up in his space.

Oh. He hadn't even noticed they were that close. But, a glance is enough for him to see something of how their artworks are starting to bleed into each others... hm. ]

It should be fine.
