Chata, OPEN

[Are you in Chata today? Are you outside of the grocery store today? John's hanging around, leaning against the side of the building with a clipboard in his hand. Starting a petition is…not quite what he has in mind, but he can bend it a little and maybe it'd count. Should anyone get close enough, he'll approach and grin a little, clipboard gripped firmly as he waves.]

Can I borrow a few minutes of your time?

Viea Village, OPEN

[Frankly, he's also a little bored and it's why he decides to commandeer a stall at the Farmer's Market today. The market's been quiet given the lack of people around, but today John's selling what appears to be…a bunch of baked goods. Tarts, cookies, pastries (no cupcakes, weirdly) and some candied apples.

For anyone passing by, he'll lean forward a little, nudging the tray toward you.]

Tribunal Terrace, OPEN

[John can also be found walking from the parking lot of the hospital, carrying a couple of large boxes from his car toward the front door. There appears to be a handful of art supplies hanging out of the boxes, but as he passes by he'll commentate.]

Mind getting the door for me? I could really use a hand. [He thinks he's funny. He's not.]

[ The burger also catches Daisuke's attention and he gulps--partly because he's hungry but also because the size is clearly overwhelming. ]


Yeah. [ He nods. ] One, two...

...three. [But he picks up the burger and begins to bite into it with gusto. This is maybe going to end poorly, but it's not like he can back out now!]

[ On three, Daisuke grabs the burger and gives it a big bite. He should honestly follow his own advice regarding pacing himself, but he's just so hungry and there's a large portion of food right in front of him.

... He'll do his best, but right now, he's chomping away. ]

[Pacing is for chumps!!! Especially this chump who's also not pacing and he's working on biting into his burger. He's eating his way in a circle, chomping down on it to make the burger smaller.

...this is semi-effective.]

[ By now, Daisuke has eaten half of the burger. That's not bad for such a short amount of time! Except... he's starting to feel full. Not like this. Not like this! He squints as he stares at the remainder of the burger. ]

Doing this makes me realize... how small of a stomach I have.

[He swallows, pausing for a moment as he eyes the burger with a look of sheer betrayal.]

...maybe we should have trained better...but we can't give up yet!

I feel so thirsty... but I can't drink water either. That'll make it worse! Can't give up!

[ Daisuke stares at it as most menacingly as he can (it's not much), before going in for another big bite. And another. And another. Chew, chew, chew. Swallow.

He looks up at the ceiling. ]

Can't... give up...

[windeity]

Just think about all the water you can drink when you finish it...wash away the salty goodness. [This is sad as he works on tearing the burger into smaller bites with his teeth to swallow easier.] We're almost there dude...I believe in us!

Almost there...!

[ He looks back down at the burger again and takes smaller bites than before. It's much less to pace himself and more so that he doesn't feel like he's cramming food into his stomach too much.

He eventually arrives at the remainder of a fourth of the burger left to go. What's left of the burger sits on the plate as Daisuke is leaning back into his chair. ]

Five minute rest... Just five minutes.

Five minutes might be five minutes too long. [Just kind of gazing at Daisuke's burger, he finds himself slowing down his chewing again.] ...do they count it against you if you take a break?

[sketchythief]

I think as long as you finish within the time limit, it's fine. It means I can take as many short breaks as I want as long as I finish my burger!

[ He says that, but when he looks over at his burger again, he doesn't feel so good...

He takes another bite anyway. ]

I'm not the dude of time...I don't even know how long we have left in the challenge. [But he does pause because...bluh...] ...we can still do this.

[ Daisuke looks at the timer and gestures over to it to so John can see it too. They have several minutes left, which is fine... Usually. But he feels that if he eats any more, he's going to barf.



So clearly, the answer is to finish the rest of the burger. Daisuke's expression is pretty blank as he continues to take bites out of whatever he has left, and he... eventually finishes. He only realizes that he's done once there's nothing left to eat. ]

How are you coming along, John...?

[He doesn't answer right away because as soon as he sees the timer he slows down. Daisuke finishes first and John's working on the last few bites, exaggerated chewing and slowly working before he swallows thickly.

Give him a few moments...

...Daisuke? I think I'm dying.

No, don't... die...

[ Even though he feels like dying too. But he must stay strong. He must stay awake and not throw up for the sake of both of them!! Just when did this challenge get so dramatic-- ]

You can't die on me, John!!

[ Though it sounds more like a quiet wail. ]

[Trying Their Best: A Daisuke and John story. He's trying not to faceplant into the table as he forces down the last few bites. It's with those words of encouragement though that...he...crams the last bite into his mouth and chews.

Swallowing it down, he waits a few moments before staring ahead of him as though he's wondering just why they chose to do this.]

...did we win? [Both burgers were eaten in the time limit...that's gotta count, he thinks.]

We... We did it...

[ Oh my god. Daisuke stares at the table, both plates empty. Nothing is left. He feels so happy, and yet... ]

We did it--

[ He feels sick. ]

[A slow and greasy death...]

...I never want to eat ever again though. But we won? That...counts.

We won... but at what cost?

[ Daisuke stays still for a moment. He can't throw this back up. He'd probably get that victory taken away from him if he did. At least, that's what he thinks anyway. ]

... I wonder if I should call someone to pick me up.

Lyft drivers exist, right? But if you puke in the back of their car they might charge you even more. [Mistakes were made.]

Let's ask the owner if we can sit here for a while...

[ He would normally worry about holding up the customers and taking up a table, but no such thought comes to mind when his body just wants everything out.

Gotta be neat. Gotta hold it in. ]

Cars move too much anyway...

I am...reasonably sure they will not kick us out. We did just win their challenge. [They better not kick them out???] ...ten minutes. I will give us ten minutes.
