April Catch All with Derek Matthews [OPEN]

WHO: Derek and YOU!
WHERE: Varius Places around Recolle
WHEN: Varius times throughout April
WHAT: Derek is really busy in April
WARNINGS: Possible large amounts of alcohol consumption

April is a fairly busy month for Derek, he is trying to remember when he had this much of a social life.

I.A. Riding the Nimbus 2001 OTA

Even with being more social than normal, Derek still finds time to take his Nimbus 2001 out for a ride, usually at night. He can be found flying over the city. You can try to call out to him or if you have the mean, why don't you join him? Or challenge him to a race?

I.B. Taking a break OTA

Or perhaps you have caught him during a break and he is sitting on the roof of a building and you just happen to look up and see his feet dangling on the side. If you ask him what he is doing up there, he will gladly take the chance to show off his Nimbus 2001.

II. A. Run into Derek at a Bar OTA

Derek is no stranger to drinking. Retrospec still stresses him out, thus the occasional drink is in order. Besides, if it's after the 9th, he's recently found out his sister, Amanda, isn't on the app anymore, meaning she has "been reset." Derek does not take it well at all. Not as bad when his ex dumped him right after Christmas and move half way across the country, but bad enough that he will probably be visiting a bar at least every other night for the rest of the month. No promises that he will be in a good mood when you talk to him.

II. B. Run into Derek at Expressive OTA

On the nights that he is not drinking, he is at Expressive drinking some Earl Grey. With all the drinking he is doing at bars this month, at Jirou and Kenta's engagement party, and Alex's birthday party, he has to have some sort of control over his alcohol consumption. God knows he needs to drink a bit less. So, feel free to join him wit your own coffee or tea.

[ He nods. ]

Like a game of hide and seek, except with guns.

[ And then he cracks a tiny grin. ]

You want me to turn around and count to ten?

Five whole minutes? You could be halfway to Canada by then!

[ But yeah alright, fine, he'll turn around and let you get on with it, Derek. ]

[ James is, amazingly, playing it safe. Derek may be up there in the tree a while yet, because James is taking his time to try and puzzle out where he is. He's mentally calculating how far Derek could have possibly gone, factoring in walking speed and tree-climbing time, and figuring out the area where he's likely to be from that.

It's not exact, and he's no mathematician, but it gives him a good starting point.

He's isolated Derek to a particular cluster of trees, but he can't see through the foliage well enough to confirm. He'll have to draw his fire out to be sure. So, from behind a few bushes, James holsters the gun and picks up a pebble, tossing it along the ground right where the trees are. Then he makes sure to rustle a bunch of branches as he repositions himself to another set of bushes to watch.

Here's hoping Derek takes the bait. ]

[ James just barely manages to roll out of the way in time to avoid getting hit. Okay, noted, Derek knows his shit and he needs to revise his tactics.

But, he has managed to confirm Derek's exact position. James scoots his way over to the nearest tree and takes refuge behind it, keeping his eyes on Derek all the while--or the section of tree trunk he's hiding against, at least. It's good, though. If he can't see Derek right now, then Derek can't see him either. He takes the chance to go into full stealth mode--no visibility, no rustling leaves, no sound of footsteps. Everything seems to go completely quiet.

James, meanwhile, is sneaking his way over to a tree about 400 feet away so he can climb up it in peace. Screw this close quarters shootout crap. ]

[ Shit, he knew this was a risk. By the time he manages to crawl up a tree--surprisingly silently and deftly, for someone with just one arm--and peeks out around the corner of the trunk back to where Derek was, he realizes he's gone. So they're essentially in the same situation that they started.

Thankfully, in that moment, he catches sight of a bit of movement. Blond hair, fake wall. Almost certainly Derek. He doesn't hesitate--he doesn't have time to, when they're both in the middle of moving around. He takes aim and shoots immediately, unleashing two paintballs right for the wall he just saw Derek. Hopefully he reacted quickly enough to catch him off guard. He knows his aim is damn good at this distance, even with only a pistol, but he can't take it for granted that he really landed a hit.

He ducks behind the tree trunk again and waits for any sounds that might tell him what's going on. He's given away his position, and wants to know what comes next even if he can't necessarily see it. ]

i swear i didn't forget about this thread, i'm just bad at shooty strategies

[ James doesn't see the trajectory of the shots, only where they land--a clean line of paintball shots spattering across the tree branches near him. But, staring at the paint splatters, he thinks he can roughly guess where Derek must have been to shoot them all. Peeking out from the tree trunk, he spies a wall corner. He starts aiming to retaliate, but then pauses.

If he already fired from there...he's not likely to stick in the same place. He hasn't so far. So where would he go next? Everywhere around the wall is far too open and risky...but, he realizes as he cranes his neck a bit more, the wall does stretch a bit.

He has no guarantee that this isn't some trap Derek's laid to lure him out long enough to actually land a hit on him. But he's willing to take the risk.

He aims for the other end of the wall and fires, hoping he'll have timed it well enough that Derek will be along that edge by the time the paintballs get there. ]
