[ Truthfully, it hasn't been particularly bad. But it hasn't been as if they were kids again either. At least not lately.
Noctis isn't used to living with someone else, at least not since he'd moved here to Recolle. It's been years since Noctis and Ignis had spent an excessive amount of time together, so it should be like old times, right? But it's somehow been different because of Ignis' place in all of this; a caretaker. A nurse. While Noctis hasn't been ornery or stubborn, he hasn't been the most upbeat about this either. Mostly awkward, because... Well... He's still adjusting his pride here.
At the very least, he hasn't been standoffish with Ignis. Nor distant.
By now, it's been a couple weeks since Ignis moved in. His room is set up, the kitchen is full of food for the both of them, and Noctis hasn't eaten out in weeks. Having Ignis around means that his privacy is a bit minimized here, but he's by no means without it. But he certainly hasn't gotten away with the same habits he'd maintained before. Not anymore. He's on a diet, he's on a schedule again, and worst of all? He's back on dozens of medications that Ignis maintains. It's right back to where he'd been as a child, but at least he can come and go out of the apartment.
It's morning, and Noctis had promised the night before that he would accompany Ignis to run errands for much-needed amenities and supplies for the apartment. He's got an alarm; multiple set, actually, and the first two he'd turned off in his sleep.
By the time the third one is going, Noctis is sleeping right through it. Snoring away. It's blaring loud, enough for Ignis to likely hear in the next room.
Guess who's gonna need to be reminded of his promise. ]

This whole sleeping in thing, however, is really getting tiresome.
Ignis can definitely hear the alarm from his own room, already awake and changed as he finishes tending to his bed. Once finished and exited, he glances down the hall to Noct's door, however he somehow has the mercy in him to allow Noct one last chance to wake on his own before he has to take matters into his hands. Again. Did he sleep this much when he was a child?
A few minutes in the kitchen has Ignis whipping up a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast, all neatly arranged on the counter. He pulls out a notepad to scribble down a shopping list, goes through the fridge and the bathroom one last time to check up on things, then finally returns to Noct's bedroom door. He knocks, then opens it.
Noctis is still asleep. Ignis enters and shuts the door behind him. Loudly.]
Noct, out of bed. Now. We're already eight minutes late and breakfast is getting colder by the second.
no subject
By the time Ignis comes storming into his room, Noctis is still snoring the likes of which sawing logs couldn't even compare. At the very least, the door being shut loud, surprisingly, startles him awake. One last snort before Noctis shifts in his bed. And then he's aware of his alarm. ]
Huh, wh--
[ With his eyes hardly even open, he reaches towards his phone and turns off the alarm, slowly rolling onto his side and squinting towards Ignis. His hair is a pillow-tousled mess, eyes practically closed, and his nose wrinkled. ]
Mhh...
[ Yeah. That's the sound of acknowledgment. Or at least an attempt. It's pretty clear that Noctis hasn't really registered what Ignis is saying or why he's in here. But he's half-asleep, so his brain doesn't muster up the energy to decide if he minds or not.
He pulls the comforter back over himself, mumbling as he lays back down. ]
Five...
Five minmnss...
[ A good little mumble. Sure that came across great. Good job, Noct! You deserve some more sleep! ]
no subject
He's testing his patience, which is very thin at the moment, what with the lack of caffeine in his system.]
Noctis Lucis Caelum.
[Full name. Yikes.]
Get up!
[He barks a little louder, one final attempt before he decides this is going to take a different sort of persuasion. Stepping across further through the room, passing Noct's bed, Ignis pushes aside the window's blinds to allow a burst of sunlight to filter into the room.]
no subject
Ignis snapping his name out like that with that final command startles Noctis instantly. There's a sound of protest as he shoots up from bed, bonking his head on the shelves of his headboard on the way. ]
Gh--!
[ His eyes open, then promptly shut in protest to the blinding light that spills in from the window. Noct's comforter falls off his shoulders, revealing the wrinkled, loose-fitting v-neck, completing the look with his hair sticking up the way it is.
He covers his face with the back of his hand. ]
O-kay, m'up, m'up.
no subject
Should I get the tap running in the washroom? Unless you'd prefer to lend the nest of your head to the birds outside.
[He's already beginning to fold up the comforter, though he doesn't leave the room just yet.]
The sooner you're ready then the sooner we may leave, finish up errands, and you may possibly return to sleep upon our return in a few hours.
no subject
Boy, Ignis is brutal. He remembers Ignis being all about schedules as a kid, but his memories are a lot fluffier and cuter in comparison to this hardened sass he's getting. ]
Possibly? I'm 21 years old.
[ He needs permission????
Noctis grumbles out that response, huffing as he turns to get out of bed. He groans as he rubs at his sore head and drags his feet to his dresser. ]
no subject
Exactly my point. You're a bit old to be taking naps.
[Once the comforter is folded, Ignis leaves it onto the empty half of the bed now that Noct has finally gotten himself up on his feet. He fluffs and straightens the pillows before straightening up and finally making his way to leave the room.]
If I catch you asleep again, I'll have a bucket with me this time.
no subject
Oh well. He’s tired.
Noctis doesn’t even acknowledge Ignis’ threats. He simply yawns as he shuffles his way out of his room, eyes still practically closed. ]
Mmh.
[ He opens up one eye, seeing that the dining table actually has plates on it? Actual plates. Not styrofoam. And it smells pretty good; he forgot Ignis mentioned breakfast.... He really got up early to do that? Noctis walks over to inspect, curious until he sits down. ]
You cooked.
[ Mostly an observation of surprise. He didn’t have to. ]
no subject
Unfortunately the scrambled eggs have had to go into the microwave to be heated up again, and Ignis eats the cold toast himself as he'd rather not put more into the toaster. He's flipping through his phone, waiting for Noct's arrival when he hears his footsteps and the voice that follows. Ignis adjusts his glasses.]
I'm not quite sure why I bothered considering the hour, but yes, I did.
[He reaches aside to pull out the chair next to him where Noct's portion is set out.]
Someone has to in this household. Now sit and eat.
no subject
But then he stops.
It’s weird. It isn’t the first time it’s happened like this, but it never stops being strange. The step forward that Noctis takes seems to be a step in another world entirely. Outdoors. Upon a large rock overseeing vast planes of mountain, rock, and dirt roads. All overseeing the feint skyline of distant towns. It’s midday, and there’s a tent set up with a small fire pit in the center, surrounded by foldable chairs and lamps. Noctis goes from smelling eggs and toast to something more akin to barbecue.
And there’s Ignis, seated at the fire pit where in the same movement he pulls the chair out in his dining room, he’s pulling at the foldable chair and insisting he sit and eat. What’s odd is that he isn’t irritated by the command; no, he finds Ignis’ persisting and mothering to be endearing. Like he’s been doing it forever.
It happens in an instant, and Noctis blinks back to his actual reality with a look of complete confusion. Ignis was there too? With them?
He shakes his head, blinking a bit before sitting down beside him and taking his plate. ]
Ah... Right.
no subject
Odd... Ignis hesitates before he speaks.]
I assume we'll be out long enough that we can easily take care of lunch, however if there is anything in particular you'd like prepared for supper then let me know so I can make the proper purchases.
[Ignis takes his spoon in hand but pauses.]
Are you feeling all right?
no subject
The thing here is he’s okay with it. Very okay with it. The strange feelings are the only things keeping him partly silent, but Noctis felt this sense of... Gratitude. To Ignis’ actions but not just that. He can’t put his finger on what. But it’s almost suffocating. Ignis goes on about dinner, about Noctis voicing what he wants, and it almost hurts in a way.
He clears his throat, trying not to lose himself here. Ignis hasn’t fully been exposed to what Retrospec is capable of, and he wouldn’t want to make things weird. ]
I’m fine.
[ He prods his fork into his eggs. ]
Just uh... Remembered some things I should pick up.
[ Another pause. ]
... I’ll treat us to dinner. There are a few restaurants in the district you might like
no subject
Try to keep them in mind. There's a notepad and pen on the counter if you think you'll need it.
[Usually he's not one to take large bites, but considering how late it is, Ignis puts a bit more than he normally would into his fork so they can hurry things along. Two bites and a drink of water later, he speaks again.]
If it's what you'd like to do and we have the time, I wouldn't mind. [Honestly he should decline the offer. They need to use their money more wisely than that, but it's a consideration that Ignis greatly appreciates, not to mention it does give him an opportunity to better explore the city and spend more time with Noct outside of their apartment. Ignis has another bite of food.]
At any point, if you feel unwell, please tell me. I can return us here and simply take care of errands on my own tomorrow.
no subject
He should tell him. It might be easier for him if he gets a warning. A head start. That’s what Gladio had wanted, and Ignis is the type who needs to be hyper-aware of everything. He eats it pretty quick, surprised that Ignis managed to make scrambled eggs not taste bland and boring. He sucks down his water and gets up.
Ignis is fussing about him already. They aren’t even out the door. But he doesn’t argue it. ]
I’ll keep you posted. I’ve actually been feeling pretty okay last couple days.
[ He grabs his plate, bringing it to the sink, then grabbing his keys off the counter. ]
Ready?
no subject
The lack of verbal response and the silence that falls between them as they eat is something Ignis is starting to become very familiar with. Not that it doesn't bother him less, but he at least knows better than to engage in further conversation. Especially since it gives them ample enough time to actually eat and finish their meals. It's as Noct downs the last of his water that Ignis takes a few larger bites in order to finish up, and by the time Noct has the keys in hand Ignis stands and takes his own dishware to the sink. He'd like to wash them right away, but they're in a rush, so he'll just have to save it for when they return.]
I've my billfold at hand already, so yes. [He just takes a quick moment to pick up the notepad from the counter, peeling off the paper with his list and tucking it into his pocket. It's as he approaches Noctis that he pauses and actually offers him a sudden hint of a warm expression.]
I can tell that you've been doing much better. I'm relieved. [Ignis settles a hand on his shoulder, gently squeezing.] Now lets be on our way then. You don't understand how terribly I need a coffee.
no subject
Noctis smiles a bit softer. ]
Give it a few weeks. I'm sure something'll go wrong and you'll have too much to deal with.
[ A bad joke, but it's the truth. His health likes to keep everyone on their toes. ]
Yeah yeah, let's get your caffeine. We'll go to the shop we met up at.
no subject
We'll have none of that pessimism. [He's just recently gotten a break from being overwhelmed with stress, he doesn't want to be thrown off-guard just by the possibility of something going wrong, even if he is in fact fully prepared for it.
Holding the door open, Ignis waits for Noct to exit the room.]
Are you sure we're even allowed near the premises anymore? Considering the unpleasant tiff we threw.
no subject
Hate to be “that guy”, but I spend a lot of money there. Doubt they even remember.
[ Although he shouldn’t really be that dismissive. He knows. Noctis walks beside Ignis on the way to his car. ]
I uh... Actually apologized when I went back a few days later. Haven’t been since. That was my bad.
no subject
Tell me, how much leeway does a strapping young English chap receive in these parts?
[Because if all it takes is a few words of apology then maybe... he doesn't quite have a problem with making that location a frequent stop. Especially if it's a popular location for Noctis.
And. Well. In case any other matters pop up, he might need to learn the important skill of talking one's way out of unfortunate circumstances. People always love an accent, as he's steadily begun to learn.]
no subject
Probably enough to get away with the scene and a few phone numbers.
[ Because yeah, plenty of people are into the whole English accent here. Prompto is one of them. ]
Not that I’ve got experience to prove it.
[ Since he’s successfully ignored his accent and hid it behind something more American for ages now. Noctis hands the keys to Ignis when they arrive at his corvette. ]
Wanna take her for a spin? I’m too tired to focus on the road.
no subject
[Ignis gives a roll of his eyes but he can't help but laugh. It's very devious, but also smart. You can't exactly get away with that sort of thing when you're in a country where everyone speaks the exact same as you. But Ignis knows about these things very well in the states, movies and all that. People melt for accents, and he can't understand why.
At least he knows how to slide himself out of an argument or a problem where one arises and he doesn't mind using dirty tactics.
As the keys to the car are settled into his hand, Ignis takes a long look at the car before looking up at Noctis with a sigh.]
I'm your caretaker, not your chauffeur. [Yet Ignis doesn't seem to mind walking over to the driver side of the car. It's not like he can force Noct to drive, as much as it peeves him to allow him to possibly nap.]
no subject
Fine, I'll drive home.
[ He has a feeling Ignis won't like it; even Prompto gets on his ass about his driving habits at times. ]
Most people'd kill for a chance to drive this. It's custom.
no subject
Also, these cars with the driver side on the left are just odd. Ignis already feels at a loss before he decides to focus on fixing the rear view mirror.]
Don't fall asleep. I'll need directions.
no subject
[ He offers a shrug at the first part. He's fully aware of the fact, but he also has no concept of anything. Noctis wears a lazy smile as he pulls back his seat and leans backwards. ]
Take a left at the first light. It's right around the corner.
[ And then, he yawns, putting his hands behind his head. ]
no subject
So off they go, Ignis driving a tad slower than he's meant to, just because he feels kind of. Slightly nervous about driving the car. But they arrive with no mishaps, parking goes by without a snag.
Now whether Noct actually stayed awake.....................]
