[While the first thing he'd done when he'd gotten back in the afternoon was make chocolates for his friends and Akira, there's still a great deal of time between then and the night, when he and Akira plan to meet up for a nice date...

...so he texts Sena and asks him out for sushi, because sushi is a good in this world and fuck if they do not need something expensively tasty to wipe off the past week and a half. His treat.

Sure, the best sushi place in town closed down with the rest of the joint shit getting pushed together, but this place isn't that bad. It's just sort of standard. And off a conveyor belt, so it's not as high class as Goro'd like it to be for the most beautiful boys in the world (them) but it's fine, it's fine, anything tastes like heaven after hell.]

Ah... I don't think I've ever been so happy for the cold before. I'm sure the novelty will wear off, but it certainly was nice walking in it after being close to the mantle. Were you alright, Secchan? Such a drastic change in temperatures would give anyone a headache, but I was worried about you in particular.

Yes, I do. I... wasn't particularly fortunate in that area of my life, for different reasons. Was it the same for you?

Wasn't it the same for everyone? I don't think anyone would have a childhood that's always full of nice, happy memories.

[ he wishes that they're seated at a booth instead of a counter since he doesn't want anyone to overhear but the sushi is too good to pass up, ugh ]

Mine was't as traumatic though. It wasn't too big of a deal.

Mm, that was one way to put it. Which was why when I was scouted, I all but leaped at the opportunity to stand out more. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I think it's admirable you grabbed your chance when it presented itself to you. And I'm glad you did, too, because I'm certain I would never have met you, befriended you, any other way; fate is interesting in that way. [A sheepish smile.] See, I only took it up so I had a reason not to go out with girls, since I was, ah, a little too noticeable... though the money to help my mother was a tidy bonus.

I've never known my father. He left my mother alone and pregnant with me, and... well, you know. That sort of thing isn't very favorably looked upon by the older generation, no matter if ours might not care two licks about it now. I can't say it wasn't a very exciting time, nor... traumatic, or anything like that, it just was what it was. I deserved most of what I got though, aside from what came about due to my circumstances. I had a cheeky mouth.

[ he can totally relate not wanting to go out with girls, tbh. so annoying. but sena lends an ear to goro's familial woes and think that... they really aren't that much different after all.

You still are too cheeky, though. [ points that out first. ] For me, it was just a typical story of my parents not being around too much when I was born. I was often left to the care of my other relatives or maids or whatnot, and when they said that we're moving to the US, I was really looking forward to it because I'd thought that we'd spend a lot more time together.

[ chuckles darkly ] I thought wrong. They were much busier than ever, but at least they gave me free reign of pretty much everything in our house and so long as I update them with whatever I've been doing, they'd be okay with it. They're... always okay with it.

[ ... ]

But it's because they don't really care about what I've been up to.

[He really does, he can't deny it. Goro listens, leaning on a hand, and sighs.]

I'm going to offer my mother to you, hearing something like that... She cares far too much for one son to handle on his own. Even if I had something similar once we moved here -- I was left in the care of my aunt and uncle for a great deal of time -- Mom always did her best to leave a space open for me, which is why I learned to cook. One less thing on her mind, and more time to spend with her.

[... He's lucky in that regard. Akira's family is distant in the same way, hardworking and leaving their son to his own devices for the most part, Silver and Liz are used to being self-reliant too. Goro feels like the only one who's a momma's boy, but that's fine.]

Have you ever done anything outrageous to get their attention?

[ hmm. ] Taking up music in college is one, since they'd probably expected me to become a full-time model instead of getting a degree. I was already blessed with a nice voice and I wanted to prove to people that I can be more than just a pretty face, but...

[ yeah. he's contemplative but not too sad, though that's because he's all but accepted this. ]

It's fine, it's fine. [ waves a hand that's holding the chopsticks ] I don't really need my parents' approval anymore since I can barely contact them outside the city, so I'm free to do whatever my heart desires. I'm not really a criminal though, so I'm not sure where to start.

I thought you meant a deep, passionate love for certain things? Modeling's practically my life now but nowadays it just feels so draining... But maybe because it's routine; that I haven't changed things up ever since I took the job up.

Elizabeth does seem to have the flair for theatrics... [ like the oddball that she is ] But I'm still not sure about that, Akechin. The modeling world is already taxing enough; the entertainment industry will just eat me alive. It's almost the same as becoming an idol, and I still don't know how to deal with my memories as it is.
