TEAM YZMA LOG
READY: START Team Yzma roster: Carmen Sandiego, Dave Strider, Elizabeth, Emil Vasterstrom, Juzo Sakakura, Lucy/Kaede, Penelo, Seto Kaiba, Shouto Todoroki, Souji Seta, Yato. The city's been under siege for what feels like hours. It's only on August 3rd that you learn it's been a matter of days. Monsters begin pulling Retrospec users through portals left and right, large gaping holes in reality that spit you out in any given location around the city. However, just as you think you're finally getting away, a large blue portal opens and you're snatched up. No amount of fighting and struggling will free you and soon the pressure is too great to ignore. Darkness fills your vision and the last thing you may remember is the sound of thunder... This is the Team Yzma Event Log. You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log. Important links to mod toplevels are: Mod Questions & Participation Reporting. Please be aware you are responsible for reporting your own participation & objective completion efforts with links; the moderators will try to keep up with threads, but as we are currently running several teams with participation, we require you to keep us up to date! Please read each of the toplevels and instructions!
The schedule for Team Yzma is as follows: 3RD: Objective 1 posted (9PM EST) | Objective 1 part twoObjectives will be given in mod toplevels to this post with instructions; please check the log currently for Objective 1 to see how this will work. |
Week 3 | Dark Blue Biome, AKA Bikini Bottoms | Pento
And here I thought we'd be playing basketball.
[She tugs on the jersey and flashes Seto a grin.]
C'mon. This won't be so bad. I'll drive.
no subject
At least we have a vehicle. I think some of the rest are going on foot.
[ poor dave and souji, at least? HE WOULD HAVE LIKED A SPACESHIP BETTER. he starts flicking at buttons to boot up the vehicle, watches it as the lights come to life.
he laughs. ]
Ever driven a submarine before? I'll swap with you later.
[ split the work and all that. ]
no subject
Well I'm under the impression that we're going underwater, so lucky us, huh?
[She hops into the pilot's seat and settles in, getting a feel for the controls.]
And no, but I've handled drones and taken some pilot's classes with Dad before the accident. You work the grabber arm, and we'll swap later.
[Pressing a few buttons to get things started, the boon arm begins to shift and lower them into the water, sealing the hatches with a hiss.]
Let's get this going!
no subject
The great blue beyond beckons. [ told you he was a nerd. ] Alright. [ adults working together in a team, this will be fine. ] Too bad you don't have your video camera with you, this would probably make a pretty good episode for your vlog.
[ anyway! not to get distracted, but once they're lowered into the water and Pen kicks the vehicle into drive, Surina speaks through weird telepathy things? It says something when it doesn't weird Kaiba out as much as it.... probably should. ]
... Ocean floor, apparently. Guess we're going to have to go deeper than this.
no subject
[She rolls her eyes and starts everything up, the rotors whir and she reaches into her bag to pull out...] Who says I didn't bring anything along? I have my go-pro. It's got juice left. I charged it and my portables back in the waiting room, so let's roll.
[And she is just going to put that on and hit go. Because he's right.]
Deeper. Well, I guess that means it's going to get real dark soon.
[Flicking on the lights, she heads down, down towards what she's going to guess is the continental shelf.]
You know, somehow this is less terrifying than that lab...
no subject
[ also to be fair he's not exactly very surprised by the fact that pen still has her go-pro with her. you do you, pen. ] ... I should have expected this.
[ and while Pen is navigating through the continental shelf, he's going to keep track of the radar and also be the one conversing with Surina! Pen can probably hear their conversation telepathically though, everything is fine. ]
Alright, so there's one piece in a volcanic vent, another one in a trench, and a third one in a cave.
[ makes a face. ] The vent is an active one. [ another sigh. ] Right, looks like I'm going to have to get out of the vehicle to get the piece, actually.
no subject
[Pen listens quietly, but her head jerks up to look at him when he says he's got to get out.]
Get out? The water pressure will crush you like a tin can. Hell, I'm not sure you can even open the lower hatch without crushing the ship. How the hell...?
no subject
Eventually, he'll just have a very put out expression on his face when it kind of. goes nowhere because sphinxes are cryptic why is everything like this, why is he suddenly an rpg character right now instead of the programmer. ]
She's being cryptic and just asked me to try. [ aka game mechanics are going to be in play here APPARENTLY so he's just hoping that he doesn't get crushed to death.
he points to where the vent is showing up on the radar - it's not a very wide trench. ] Guess we'll find out when we actually get there.
no subject
I guess so. Not like we have a lot of choice.
[Uh. Opening the lower hatch and hoping water doesn't come rushing in through the bottom?]
no subject
thank goodness he's already suited up, so by the time Pen pulls up to the vent, he's just about ready to go. when the hatch opens up, he's expecting water but also crushing sea pressure, and he gets... none?
what the fuck. thanks, unreality mechanics. ]
Nothing's happening. [ he still sounds apprehensive, but he's not about to look a gift horse in the mouth. ] I'm going in.
[ so yeah, that's a thing. it feels just like regular swimming, actually, which makes everything so much easier when he doesn't have to worry about ocean currents and whether he's going to get crushed by water pressure. it doesn't take too long for him to locate the chests, although there's multiple of them in the vent.
the locks are rusted enough to break with a sharp piece of rock that he's picked up from the vent floor, and it takes two chests before he locates the missing mecha piece! and because it's an active vent he's going to get out of there as soon as possible and head back to the vehicle. ]
One down, three to go. [ he'll call out, his way of announcing his return as he lugs the mecha piece back. ]
no subject
When he returns, she lets out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding and sags in her seat. There's plenty of reasons to be nervous, after all, and not just water pressure.
As soon as he's back on board, she's sealing the hatch and heading lower. WE HAVE TO GO DEEPER.]
Okay. Stow that in one of those storage containers and get ready. I've already got something on the radar.
no subject
Alright. [ the piece is thankfully not super huge so he's able to stow it away reasonably quickly before he's heading back up to the main cockpit, just as she's piloting the vehicle away from the vent.
he'll get into his seat and then glance at the radar. They still have some distance to go before they hit the trench. just how big is this biome anyway? ]
... It actually felt like regular swimming, just so you know.
no subject
[She puts pedal to the metal here, the engine whirring as fast as it can go, because look, this is freaking weird and she wants to get it done and over. As interesting as all this is, there's no reason she can see to dally or linger. The faster they solve this puzzle the faster the can go home.]
I'm starting the descent. Hopefully we can end closer to where we need to go so you're not fumbling around in the dark.
no subject
See if you can go close enough to pick up treasure chests or boxes of some sort - the piece from the vent was in a chest with a lock that I could break open with a sharp rock, so I have a hunch that it's possible that this second piece would also be in a chest of some sort.
[ at least they're going to be in large, open space by the time they hit the trench, so even in the darkness, the random blips of the chests on the sonar/radar screen aren't difficult to pick out. ]
Here. [ he points to a strategic point, right in the middle of the slightly scattered chests, so that it's not a super long swim to any particular chest. hm. they do show up as larger blips than the one in the vent though. ]
I'll go ahead and see if I can bring it back on my own first. If I need your help, I'll signal. [ there's probably some kind of flare light or something w/e he'll bring it along with him. ]
no subject
Right. Just let me know. I'll be here.
[No point in worrying too much, if the pressure didn't bother him up higher, it shouldn't be any worse here...so...]
no subject
when Pen unlocks the hatch, it's just as disconcerting to swim down to the chests, which are... significantly larger than the one in the vent. hm. at the very least, he's going to use the same sharp piece of rock to try and break open the locks of the chests first - and while the locks take a little bit more effort to break, he lucked out and managed to get the chest with the piece in it on the first try. puzzle piece uncovered, thankfully he happens to be in the path of the lights from the vehicle, so it's not difficult for him to signal for Pen to join him, at least to lug the puzzle piece back into the vehicle.
he'll also motion to the jellyfish that she's going to have to duck out of the way of on her way down. thankfully they're pretty easy to move around - he had no trouble with them earlier. ]
no subject
Ready to move on? I've already got our next target locked in, and it's a good ways up, out of the trench.
no subject
Of course. [ slides back into his seat. ] Lead the way, Captain.
[ the journey takes a while, although it's kind of obvious that they're on their way to a lantern fiah cave! and obviously, being as observant as he usually is, Kaiba absolutely notices the broken flashbulbs on the floor in the path of the vehicle's lights, as well as the fact that there's no other fish in this area of the biome besides the lantern fish that he can see just at the periphery of his vision. If he thinks that it's weird, he doesn't say anything yet.
at least until he starts hearing voices in his head because thanks, unreality mechanics allowing fish to communicate with him telepathically? what even is happening. he'll glance over at Pen, unsure. ]
... Please tell me I'm not hearing things.
[ does she hear it too... ]
no subject
Quick as she can make it, Penelope drives the submersible till they hit the cavern and...well, it's pretty impressive. Big enough for them, and with the current being as non extant as it is, it's an easy fit so in they go.
She frowns when something happens, voices and chatter loud and clear in her head. It's...]
You're not hearing things.
[She asks mentally if they know anything about their goal and the response they get back is kind of apathetic. Almost like they want to bargain. He'll definitely hear it and...]
Okay so...we need to tell them a story each. And they'll let us take the piece and take us to the next one. At least, I think it's the next one. They say Bruce has it and we need to talk to Bruce to get it.
no subject
telepathic fish isn't a thing that he's expecting, either, and well, he has a bad feeling about bruce but HE WON'T JINX IT by saying it out loud. ]
A story, huh.
[ that's... easy enough. after all the shenanigans of the past two weeks, all he needs to do is to tell the lantern fish the story of how he, liz and lucy escaped from the half-human half-llama doctor. there might have been a bit of embellishment there, but heck if i'm gonna write out the whole thing bc i'm a lazy rp-er and ty knows the entire story already. w/e. but when he's done, he'll gesture at Pen. her turn now. ]
no subject
The fish seem impressed though! And it's not long before they've collected the piece (Thank you fish) and are being led towards Bruce's lair. wherever that may be. Penelope's taken the time, just to be on the safe side, have learned to man the weapons on this sub. They've gotta be there for a reason, y'know.]
no subject
"However I too am lazy because I could write for hours and I'd rather leave it to Ty's imagination."
Y'all!!!
But okay, okay. The lanternfish are more than happy to assist in getting Pen and Seto to the lair of Bruce. After some time though they split off and leave the pair of them to continue onward. As their sub ventures forward they'll find themselves entering an area brighter and brighter, the luminescent glow overtaking everything. They won't have to travel for long before they find a large bench in the middle of a garden area, an octopus draped over it and enjoying the scenery. With his top hat, he seems content to be left alone.
The colors are almost too bright on the eyes, but they're just dim enough that the pair of them can see. Which. You know. Is good seeing how the octopus suddenly reaches forward with a long tentacle and wraps it around the sub, drawing them closer. From outside of the sub, they will hear:]
Haven't you heard it's rude to trespass?
no subject
As the sub gets closer and closer to what the fish keep calling Bruce's lair, Penelope gets just a little more nervous. She's played enough video games to know that bioluminescent things generally are pretty dangerous and they are underwater. The garden, however, is incredible. It's breathtaking, really. The exact opposite of what she expected.
Sitting up straighter in the pilot's seat, she lowers the lights a little so as not to make too much of a stir and disrupt the lighting. It's enough to have her making sure her go-pro's working, because she doesn't want to miss this. Or forget it.
When Bruce,( at least she presumes the octopus is Bruce), speaks up she clears her throat and sounds genuinely apologetic. Not because she's scared but because holy shit a talking octopus that is the coolest thing.]
Sorry. The...fish didn't exactly lead us to an entrance. [Is she trying to be funny? Maybe.]
We just came looking for a piece of a robot. Didn't mean to disturb you or...god, anything in the garden. This is amazing, by the way, I've never imagined a place like this.
[That? That's complete sincerity. This is so fucking unreal.]
no subject
but yeah anyway Bruce's lair is... definitely not what he's expecting mostly because when it comes to like. mastermind lairs and stuff he's more used to defaulting to conventions and making it dark and creepy places. with how lit up and non-threatening the garden looks, that's... not what quite he's expecting? maybe he'll use it in a game design next time, that would probably throw most people off.
also he's. got enough experience with weird unreality mechanics now so at least he's not freaked out by the talking octopus. these past two weeks were a ride. and while he'll let Pen take the lead on talking and negotiations because she's much better at compliments than he is, honestly, he does, however, cut in with this.
politely, of course, because the octopus has like an arm around the vehicle and that's not an ideal position to be negotiating from??? ]
We weren't exactly made aware that this was private property, I apologise. However, if you could please let go of our vehicle, it would be much easier for us to leave afterwards.
[ just saying. ]
You're Bruce, I presume? We mean no harm, really. Like she said-- [ gestures at Pen even though not sure if Bruce can see it??? ] --we were sent here to recover something and we were told that it could be found with you.
[ let's not even consider how the octopus can hear them talking Inside the vehicle??? ]
no subject
Thank you. Some of us are far more refined than ruling a kingdom with an iron tentacle. [He lifts his head...somehow.] My brother, you see. Very large kingdom, very poor ruling. This garden is my pride and joy, and you must be here for a piece of Surina's ultimate champion. [He scuttles off of his bench, dragging their vessel forward with him.]
It's been here for years. I'd been waiting for someone to take it off my hands! However, it does add a certain ambiance, if I do say so myself.
[If only because as he stops further in the garden, Pen and Kaiba will see that there's a flowerbed and a wild kind of glowing moss weaving in and out of the mech piece.] My flowers look so happy here.
