Names scroll by on the screen. and look, there goes yours! It seems like someone is manually picking and choosing from a list of every Retrospec user who didn't disappear into the void, and several names queue up.

The screen clears itself, and instead of the familiar retrospec logo, there is simply TEAM ETHANOL as a designation. the application will refuse to show anything other than a map, with one point highlighted in red. it is, of course, up to team members to decide whether or not they approach the access point.

Team Ethanol's access point is in the Recollé Graveyard. Team members will find the grave of "G. Mahoney" will move aside to reveal catacombs so long as they approach it in groups of two or more team members. Only Team Ethanol team members can see or enter the catacombs at this time. Please see the Objective 1 toplevel for more information on what they can see when they travel further down the tunnels.

This is the Team Ethanol Event Log. You are free to toplevel and thread as you choose on this log, but only team members may utilize this log. Please be aware you are responsible for reporting your own participation & objective completion efforts with links; the moderators will try to keep up with threads, but as we are currently running several teams with participation, we require you to keep us up to date! [don't let anyone die, baren had told him, so- here chuuya is, because while he believes sena when he says he'll be careful... well, there's the whole monster magnet aspect to consider, now. he's pretty sure sena should have a bodyguard of sorts, and nui doesn't seem like a combatant either even if she did stab a bear.

probably also a bad idea for these two specifically to go off alone, honestly.

he stops inside the doorway when they enter, one hand on the hilt of his knife just in case anything pops right out; when it doesn't, chuuya takes another couple of slow steps in, peering across at that gate.]

The hell...? I thought we were still underground?

[ well. after many a lecture from his close friends, sena has certainly learned his lesson about throwing bombs all willy-nilly underground. and it's really for the best, since they didn't bring a healer with them in this little trek into one of the rooms, and all sena has on him aside from the sword he borrowed from amelia is a box of bandages.

but... ugh. of all the people he has to team up with, it's YET ANOTHER ORANGE-HAIRED MIDGET (sorry chuuya) and the girl who had kicked him while he was down and pretty much enabled him to become monster bait. this really is annoying.

the largeness of the room does distract him from thinking any more of that, and the gate that apparently shows the outside world is just as intriguing. ]

Probably a mind trick. We ARE fixing unreality, after all.

[ a shrug, and goes further inside the room to check if there's any other rooms that branch off here. ]

I'm gonna go investigate on my own. You guys stick with each other.

You're really committed to this hero role, aren't you, Sena? After everything that happened, it's really kind of...cute.

[Nui still has her riot shield from fighting the bear outside in the graveyard this time. She's actually dressed for the occasion, too, and she's packed a couple of household extras. Nothing like the weapons and powers everyone else has, but with a shield and the axe from Amelia's stockpile (how come she got to go into a room with loads of weapons?????), Nui at least feels better equipped to handle this batshit insane foray into the underground.]

You'll call for us if something happens and you get into trouble, right? [Not that she cares.

She turns to Chuuya.]

If he wants to go off on his own, we'd better let him! We can stick around and look at this room, I guesssss, or go over there? [Probably smart to clean out all of these front chambers first, and they're a smart group!]

You're our monster bait, and you want to just run off by yourself?

[sena... but chuuya sighs after a moment, waving him off.]

Fine, fine. We'll stick close in case you find anything you can't handle, maybe this room'll give us some idea of what we're looking for in the other ones.

[he gestures for nui to come with as he heads on in to check the place out, adding as he glances back at her-]

Don't go too far, alright?

[is he assuming they may need to rescue sena? probably.]

That's the point, right? To lure them away from you guys.

[ rolls his eyes at nui's hero comment because bleh, if anything he's the goddamn villain of this story. he stalks on then, waving the two off as he picks a random door to investigate with. there's another riddle here, something about the more you take, the more you leave behind, and crosses his arms together in deep thought. ]

Some of these doors have those riddle things, by the way. [ he calls out to the two of them. ] Just be on your guard as always.

[ turning his attention back on the door, sena closes his eyes and thinks real hard. what could this mean? ]

Why can't these things give out clues or something? What a pain. Uh... Does it have something to do with food?

[ no dice. what the hell. ]

[Having only been attacked by wailing siren bears and not given the chance to solve puzzles or anything of the sort, Nui's a little jealous. Cute girls can be intelligent, too, you know!

Sure, they won't leave Sena too far behind just in case he draws in more than he can handle with his stupid martyr complex, but that doesn't stop Nui from strolling around the main chamber's front half, hopping up stairs and looking at doors while they wait.]

It sure would be nice if we could just get outside again through here, wouldn't it?

[She glances back at Sena to see if he's still having riddle problems. Nui definitely isn't afraid to shout across the enormous room;
she sure has the lungs to do it.]

It'd be convenient, yeah, but there's no way they'll make it that easy on us.

[he stays relatively near as he checks things out himself, wandering near enough sena's chosen door to read it, and... wandering right back over to nui. chuuya lowers his voice as he leans in.]

Hey. Do we tell him, or do we give him another couple chances first?

No need. I think I got it.

[ he was pacing back and forth in front of the door and that gave him an idea. ]

It's "footsteps", isn't it?

[ see? he's not entirely THAT stupid. ]

I think he heard you! [Nui giggles. Maybe Chuuya was trying to stage-whisper thing, but it didn't quite work.]

You're doing amazing, sweetie! [She waves at Sena, eyes scrunched closed as she grins.]

But, hey, maybe, what about "time?" Like, the more time we take trying to open the door, the more time we leave behind us?

[Only she can make what's probably a genuine suggestion sound like a passive aggressive drag.]

Yeah, yeah, I figured out that much.

[jesus how good are this kid's ears, next time he's just going to text from directly next to nui like a true millenial does

but anyway:]

I'm with her on this one, that was gonna be my suggestion too. Majority rules, right?

[give it a shot sena, he's just going to be heading over to the gate to give it a closer look. possibly those pedestals are important?]

[ ok but deep inside he does appreciate their help despite their uh, differences, but he's gonna act like a spoiled brat anyway because yeah

but ugh, he's being too hotblooded lately, even though he can never see himself as a hero like what nui says. what is going on? ]

All right, I give. Is it time for this door to open, then?

[ he grabs ahold of the sword by his hilt just in case this one actually works. ]

[She, too, is about to investigate the dragon pedestals, following Chuuya's lead, when Sena decides to take their advice and give the door another answer. She's still ostensibly leaning over the pillars to examine them, but she cocks her head to the side to listen to the door open and any subsequent sound.]

Still okay, Sena? Do you need mom and dad?

[She can't see the, uh, ninjas, so it's still time for jokes.]

Since when are we mom and dad...

[he's only 23, he's too young for this life?

chuuya turns toward the door to squint over at it, and... is that movement over there? it's hard to see, but-]

Hey, c'mon, I think that might be a yes.

[even if he isn't positive, he assumes it's best to be safe and send backup when it's not needed as opposed to carrying poor sena back.]

[ the door opens and hoLY FUCK OKAY SUDDENLY 15 NINJAS COME STREAMING OUT OF THAT ROOM AND CHASING SENA DOWN ]

Guys--!!

[ yeah okay normally he can make do with one or two with his sword despite the lack of experience, but fucking fifteen?! he does lure those fuckers towards the center of the main room so that chuuya and nui can see what's happening (like the good bait that he is), and sena unleashes his sword to slash one of them across the stomach. that's the easy part, but can he really take out all of them on his own?! ]

WHAT THE HELL, SENA?

[Nui brings her riot shield around front immediately. The axe she has is really heavy, and swinging it with one hand (having never picked up an axe in her life) won't be the most effective method of fighting. Still, she turns back from the dragon statues and jumps down the short display of steps, getting closer to provide Sena with some support here. She keeps her head well below the top edge, eyes somewhere around the "Kuma" level.

She should just know when to quit and run away, because clearly she isn't needed at a time like this--]

Will you try not to get yourself stabbed?

Holy shit--

[well. attracting enemies was not remotely an understatement, was it?
chuuya hasn't used his qr-given ability on more than one or two things at a time before, but if there was ever a good time to find out how far he can push it...

chuuya takes the opportunity to try, moving closer before he stretches a hand out and focuses on several of them in turn. one at a time, nearly half of them slow down, their eyes lit up green-- chuuya's are too, for the moment. when they don't immediately act, though, he realizes he might have to give them a push when there are this many.]

Hey, you wanna kill them, right? But there's not enough for all of you. Your friends are gonna get there before you, and then there's not gonna be anything left.

It's your prey though, isn't it? I know you guys saw him first-- so are you really gonna let them take what's yours?

[apparently, no, they're not. the ones with green eyes leap back into action to attack their newfound enemies and take out the competition! so have fun with that.]

[ holy shit, what did chuuya just do? sena watches these ninja suddenly turn on each other and start offing themselves instead and, grinning, leaps in to the fray and easily takes down one, two, three of those fuckers. huh, this is actually easier than he thinks now? he can certainly get the hang of this, though he desperately needs some experience first before taking more of these on his own. like in those video games.

he turns to nui and nods. what is she waiting for? ]

Is that ax just for show, Harime? This isn't some cosplay contest you know, come on...!

[Holy shit Sena's getting a little bloodthirsty.

Nui's mouth hangs open for about thirty seconds before she shakes herself back into activity. It would be nice if they could just let the monsters fight themselves to death, but the jealous ones seems to have the advantage of envy-induced rage.]

You're just saying that 'cause you know you wouldn't win! Let's see what we can do about these monsters with the green-eyed monster!

[Shield dropped chest-height a little optimistically, she sidesteps behind one of the jealousy-enabled ninjas and starts hacking at any armor openings she can find: neck, shoulders, hips. The truth is, with her limited skill and strength it takes a while to do any damage even when the axe blade gets between the slats. It's practical to keep swinging, but it probably looks like she has some kind of vendetta.]

[chuuya, meanwhile, will be back here slumped against this nice sturdy column for a bit because god, that's more tiring than he expected. his head is killing him and he definitely needs a while before he can fight again.

he doesn't want to be useless, though, so after a bit of watching them he calls out--]

Hey, Sena! Soften 'em up a little, would you-- you go after them once he's got them hurting!

[definitely sounding kinda out of breath there, though. he's going to keep letting them deal with it unless they look like they're in trouble.]

Got it!

[ he can follow instructions at least - he stands back, letting them beat each other up first before going in for another kill while narrowly avoiding the attacks they keep throwing at each other. he is so not made for physical combat at all, really: aside from his complete lack of experience with a sword of all things, sena's figure is way too wiry... which is appropriate for a model with a meticulous diet but not so much when you're literally fighting for your damn life.

soon enough he gets tired as well and pulls out, head turning at nui to see how she's doing. ]

You still alive there?

[ teasing, but he'll help her out too if she needs it. despite being exhausted as fuck at this point. ]

Sorry to disappoint you, cutie!

[She's dismembering her second ninja right now. Once that one falls, she looks up at what remains, arm trembling from holding her weapon and swinging it for too long.

Then she looks back at the two guys who are just gonna TAKE A NAP, SHE GUESSES.]

I knew girls had more stamina, but... [Her shield definitely gets clipped by a wayward attack as one ninja goes after another and she goes flying a good ten feet.]

Shit-- that's why you don't take your eyes off them!

[chuuya shoves himself away from the pillar, gesturing from sena to nui; he's done enough fighting that he can tell sena's tired too, so now that chuuya's at least had a minute to rest he'll push himself into the fray this time.]

Make sure she's okay--

[his own knife isn't tiny, but it's not like what these guys are packing. one ninja knocks away another's blade, and chuuya snatches it up, keeping his own in his off hand as he goes after what remains of the ninja clusterfuck. he's gonna be slower than usual, he can tell, but with them fighting each other he thinks he can manage.]

[ despite everything, sena drops what he's doing and sprints to nui's aid, carefully propping her up. hope she doesn't brush off his sudden chivalry like what vera did last week. he'd totally get the picture and drop it.

is she bleeding, though? gravely injured anywhere? sena knows nothing about first aid either but he's pulling out the bandages and gauze from his fannypack, delicately checking if she's broken anything, etc. for all his bravado and known prickliness, he'd still fuss over the most annoying people just because. ]

If you're still in one piece, tell me. Or at least nod once or whatever.

[See, he gets to play the hero after all...what a joke Sena is, really.

Nui took a pretty solid tumble back, but nothing seems to be permanently damaged. She landed on her tailbone and won't be sitting down right for a month; there are a couple of long cuts in her legs where she scraped them open on something. If anything, she just seems dazed from the impact. Stars would be circling her head if this were some kind of cartoon.

She's constantly fighting the urge to tamp down expressing what's wrong.] I'm fine, I'm fine... My wrist's a little banged up... [It hurts to hold the shield aloft, but like hell she's going to give it up.]

[while sena checks on her, chuuya works on stabbing some ninjas-- how many are even left is it enough for him to get rid of them

yeah they've been fighting each other for a bit so I'm gonna say so in the interest of Exploring. a few have probably killed each other by now to remove the excess of ninja.

he at least knows where to strike to hit vital points, so now that the remaining ninjas have helped wear each other down, he'll use his blades to finish off the last stragglers; chuuya's not getting out unscathed either, though, especially as the last one can actually give him its full attention. someone might wanna backstab that sucker when they're done over there.]
