[ Considering Kiryu's most recent conversation with Grell was about remembering Majima dying, it's probably a little awkward to meet at Yamazaki's for lunch, for a double-date no less. I mean, it's definitely a little awkward, but at this point Kiryu will take awkward over existential dread or worrying about his boyfriend. He and Majima are gonna be okay, and it sounds like maybe they could all use something normal like awkward dates or a nice lunch to mull over the craziness happening in the city, anyway.

And so, here they are. Seated at a table for four. Our beloved losers. ]

So... Jim and Janet got married, huh?

[ Is this what passes smalltalk for in Recolle these days? ]

[The awkwardness is worth it, if it affords even the smallest bit of normalcy in their lives. A rare commodity as of late, something that seems to continually slip through their fingers with each passing month. And so, a double date it is, low-pressure, no stress. Two couples, just enjoying an afternoon date, nothing more.

Well. There may be mention of Retrospec in some form or fashion. As seems to be the case now.]

That they did. [His words are caught in the midst of something that sounds like a scoff, and vague apologetic amusement, idly adjusting the scarf around his neck. He's chosen a bright red today.] I'd say congratulations are in order, but I did send them a gift from their registry.

[Well. Sort of. It was... less than amiable, probably. Maybe a bit passive aggressive.]

So did Grell an' I, but we went back an' got a better one.

[awkward? Grell doesn't think so, but that comes of being at least somewhat fond for everyone else involved. this compared to last month is a breeze - easy to relax in the atmosphere that doesn't involve lurking death and stress.]

Yes, because we didn't think it was real, but then when it was revealed to be true, then I felt bad. Our mysterious overlords or not, love is something worthy of celebration.

...I'm not sure why there were so many rubber ducks in the Retrospec building.

[ Honestly a lunch date is pretty nice. There's no monsters, and even the audible/visible thought bubbles seem to have taken a break for the time being. ]

Yeah, I agree. Everyone deserves to be happy.

[ Jim and Janet... your stans are all here. ]

Maybe someone thought it'd be ironic to buy them a lot of ducks?

Mm.

[A non-commital noise. The romantic in him says that yes, they did deserve a proper sort of gift, but the part of Ardyn whose suspicions continue to linger on all things Retrospec, can't quite bring himself to admit to this. He certainly never went back and bought a proper gift to send. His vaguely passive-aggressive one would have to do.]

The mysteries continue to pile up all around us. Unfortunately, a multitude of rubber ducks is rather innocent in comparison to the rest.

Eh? There were rubber duck in there?

[ he missed this somehow ]

More than a few. But given their sense of humor and predilection for pranks, I'm sure that they were all found to be charming rather than just strange.

Whatever makes people happy, I suppose. I still haven't given up on the theory that Jim could be something otherworldly. Who's to say aliens wouldn't be fond of ducks?

That's true. I don't think anyone met Jim or Janet last month... I guess they were on their honeymoon but it could be something else, too.

[ Kiryu spoke with a talking dragon last month, Jim and Janet could be tiny mice and he wouldn't be surprised. ]

They did pick a pretty suspicious time to enjoy themselves. Do you think they went to some other Unreality where things weren't as crazy as here?

[Yet another non-committal noise as Ardyn takes a drink of whatever he's ordered. It's probably coffee, never mind the fact that this is a date night. Sleep is, apparently, for the weak -- and those prone to actually indulging in it.]

I hope not. That they can utilize whatever Unreality exists to suit their needs. Given how out-of-control the previous month was, this would reek of irresponsibility from them.

[Then again, perhaps assuming that Retrospec is particularly responsible is his first problem.]

Hm, I mean I guess if what they're sayin' is true we could all technically be aliens, right?

But I agree with Kiryu-chan, it was pretty fuckin' good timin' ta get outta dodge.

But according to everything we know, Retrospec doesn't like too much unreality, and that would seem like taking unnecessary risks. I'd put more on them being somewhere in the Mediterranean and laughing about our troubles than doing such a thing. For as bizarre as they are, I've not yet met a stupid employee.

And a technical alien is only barely worthy of the word. It being supposed truth or not, people are generally still human, so what does that say?

That's true. Maybe it was just good timing?

[ It's never just good timing, but Kiryu wants to believe... ]

I met a talking dragon in the catacombs, so there's probably some people out there who aren't human. And I guess we're all from different worlds, so by that definition, we're kind of aliens no matter what.

That all depends on your specific definition of the word.

[As is what often what someone in his field relies upon. Definitions, and their interpretations of them.

Still, he makes no further comment on whether or not some people should consider themselves human or otherwise. Instead, he circles around it for now.]

I know that we all didn't convene on this night to babble endlessly about Retrospec, but my team was fairly comprehensive when it came to note-taking. I have information to share, if you're all interested.

It might be worth talkin' about, I gotta admit I didn't find out much aside from what I read on retrospec after the fact.

Depends on how in depth we want to get, but my group brought a few pieces back with us - I wouldn't mind talking about it with you three rather than having everyone on Retrospec trying to say their piece over yours.

[shrug. it's more that she trusts them all to be sensible and not going to snap into some panic the minute someone says something they don't like.]

Yeah, we just found out that Wendy, the woman who was working with us, was from a world that couldn't be restored. That's why she got picked up by Retrospec.

[ Kiryu didn't really pay attention to the rest, he was a little busy... ]

And our team dealt with what appeared to be the founders of the city. Putting us through all manner of trials before they decided it was necessary to help us.

[He recalls what they were told, and what Minako had recorded down.]

They were memories that were... bound to the bunker, somehow. They had also helped fight the unreality in the past, from what we could gather.

So if they're helpin', why are people still so mad at 'em?
