Mingle | What Just Happened?
WHO: Everyone
WHERE: Sandiego Foundation Building
WHEN: September 9
WHAT: A place for IRL meetups and discussions in conjunction with Souji's network post. Also, a swanky private office to hang out.
WARNINGS: N/A for now
[On the day Mohammed is certain most of the Retrospec users will not have work or school, he reserves a large portion of the Sandiego Foundation building thanks to the help of its namesake. He spends all of Saturday there, as he was the planner and thus has the responsibility of overseeing the even.
A table has all kinds of food and snacks, including curry, and another table has a few board games. He's not expecting everyone to stay here all day, but it doesn't hurt to add some incentives.
Office rooms are available for presentations and meetings, and despite all efforts to spy-proof the rooms, there will always be a strong likelihood Retrospec will find out anyway. If anyone needs a more private area, Carmen has provided an address to a discreet building some distance away. One will have to ask around for the information - they don't want to risk displaying the information if Retrospec can't see it.]
((OOC: Toplevels for specific team-related stuff are up, but feel free to add new toplevels as needed))

TEAM ABSINTHE DISCUSSION

First of all, I'd like to request that a person from each team take the time to do a write up like mine...it's good to have a record of this, and it'll be easier for any new Retrospeccers to be able to read these again in the future in their own time. But anyways-- feel free to ask any questions.
no subject
I believe that, in general, Absinthe dealt more with the idea behind the Founders of the city. Our group had the pleasure of dealing with Clarence Vanderweele, or some specter of him. Unfortunately, he was likely the least helpful of the lot where information was concerned.
Regardless, I suggest everyone take a look at Minako's printouts. If you have any questions, we can fill in the details accordingly.
no subject
We ran into a mad scientist slash surgeon Vanderweele in space I guess? Why does anyone with that name never sound that pleasant.
no subject
[He points out a part of Minako's print out, even though it's a moot point. He's ready it over like ten times by now.]
There is mention of the Founders tasking their children to fight the unreality, as well. It's unlikely it's only a coincidence.
no subject
[ honestly this wasn't a huge contribution, but he did figure he should bring up the doctor as long as they're on the topic of founders... ]
no subject
[She smirks a little as Dave mentions their shadiness though.]
"Vanderweele had a hand in founding Retrospec, otherwise known as 'shady organization extraordinaire,' so that's not a surprise."
TEAM BRANDYWINE DISCUSSION

[ Legs cross, and she kicks her foot a little. Sunglasses indoors. ]
Brandywine got assigned to a door in the basement of the university, one which doesn't seem to be there anymore. Inside there were a whole bunch of scifi looking generators and a lot of side rooms - and at the far end of the hall was a terminal. We dealt with a bunch of monsters to get the terminal's power on again, and once we did we got to talk with Mahoney. She assigned us to find their chief of security named Baroque, who they'd lost in the storm.
Several more monsters in rooms and keys later, we got to this big sprawling impossible library and found the guy chained up. That got us on another key hunt, where we ended up falling into the stories of several books until we resolved them to get the keys. Once he was unlocked, Baroque thanked us for the help and we were on our way to fix up the city.
[ She shrugs, it wasn't a lot of information - unless the others got more she was less aware of ]
When we were going, Baroque mentioned that the director of Retrospec's changed how things are working now as compared to when he started, that none of us would have been allowed in where we were under the previous administration.
TEAM COGNAC DISCUSSION

Team Cognac was sent to the subways to turn on a terminal. We had to fight some monsters to recover the password, and the rooms are what I would expect for an abandoned subway system.
The second week, we were split up. Half of our group fought large "anomalies" - monsters, essentially - while the group I was in worked through puzzles in the subway system. The train was headed by Ronnie, a Retrospec employee, and solving puzzles removed those anomalies.
The third week, we went through some rooms, solving more puzzles. However, we were told that this was part of the entrance exams employees and interns take, and the subway tests are Jim's domain. This map [Slides the paper closer] was a reward for completing everything.
Now, this is what I heard from Mafuyu. Ronnie is in charge of the subway lines, but it's also in charge of "other paths". He described some of the strange things we ran into during the precious weeks as being in "other spaces", which might be a reference to other dimensions. After all, the monsters were not part of "reality" or "our world". If the subway is a link to these worlds the Recolle Project refers to, he could be someone overseeing the links between Recolle and those dying worlds.
...There's also the fact that being alive prohibits us for working for Ronnie. I don't know why this came up, but the other interns don't have to be dead as a prerequisite.

Far as Ethanol goes... like we've said, Wendy told us that the books some of Ethanol found were books of dead people, from worlds that don't exist anymore. She's the last one from hers. It's probably true for more than just her, too, because I'd asked earlier about their hiring process-- she told me most of us don't fit the profile, and "having nothing to lose helps".
[he pauses there, long enough for a quick sip from a flask pulled from his coat. he's not providing drinks with kids around, but like that'd stop him from having his own.]
I also asked about the other weird shit that's been happening in the city, and she confirmed those were all unreality too. Just not as big or bad as last month, and apparently sometimes they can control it to change the effects. Sounds like that's what was going on this month, from what she said in that post.
If anyone else from Ethanol wants to add to that, go ahead.

I have photographic evidence of those books and records saved in my phone if you need them, and copies have been backed up in a cloud just in case something happens to this. Wendy said that the language that's used in these books are some sort of a "company code" that Retrospec employees only know. It's basic stuff for them, apparently.
[ waves his phone on his hand. if you are curious, he will let you take a sneak peek of them - but not before scrolling past a selfie of himself and a certain fat pony. yep, horses definitely are real. ]

The only real relevant information we got from our stupid ass adventure was that we found a bunch of maps. Some were of Recollé but the city was a lot bigger than it is now. And there were maps of other cities too, and a lot of them had the Retroshit logo on them, so I guess they also had locations in those places.
[ look it seems like retrospec may not be As Bas As It Could Have Been, but as karkat's group did not interact with any of the npcs at all, he's still eh about them. ]
There was also some note that basically said that Retrospec was fucking up, and that whoever wrote it was hoping that the new management at the facility here could get everything under order again before it gets destroyed like all the other worlds. We didn't talk to anyone from the company, we just dealt with nautical themed boss fight after nautical themed boss fight.
no subject
We also experienced this world changing our bodies by giving us gills that allowed us to breathe underwater, but I suppose that isn't exactly news to some people in this city.

[ he just gives naoto a look, one that basically says "don't say anything more about week two" ]

And so when Ritsu had typed out all his info, it wasn't only for ease of typing over speaking. It was a shield to protect himself from the traumatic events at the end of their journey. His better judgment told him not to come here, but Ritsu steeled his resolve that to prevent disaster from happening again, one should never skimp out on opportunities to gather knowledge. It was much better than playing along with things being "okay"--temporarily, no doubt. ]
Alright. We should have a copy of the Retrospec blueprints, if anyone would like to look over them; with this stretch, it seems to even the grounds of the city boundaries. They can easily keep us closed off from reaching them, with high-tech architecture that can shift walls and stairs. In addition to the common assumption they can keep track of our location at all times, meeting them again while catching them off-guard is unlikely.
... Additionally, I'll do my best to answer questions about what I've typed out in my summaries.
[ ooc: Notes from Abi's questioning! Q&A. ]

[Fuck mosquitoes.]
A ghost jeep took us to the most boobie trapped jungle temple known to man, and we assembled fragments of a beetle to escape the temple before it collapsed and journey into a magic fantasy kingdom. We befriended a dragon and went home, but before that, we got some information.
We found four crests that I believe belong to the founders: a wolf, a rabbit, a fish, and a bear. There was also a letter from one C. Vanderweele saying that all's going according to plan in preserving the planet as it is, and that retrospec's...
[Hang on, let him grab his notebook. This is hard to recite from memory.]
"Retrospec has completed settling its roots and they are in the interview process to ensure that things will go according to plan to rebuild as they need to."
There were newspaper articles, too. They were talking about a decline in Recolle's population, and how some big name families were dying off and coming to an end.
[Because that's happy. He rolls his shoulders and shuts his sketchbook.]
My other group members should have the original copies of this stuff. I just took notes.

Tell me about the dragon. She used to be...human, correct?

Relevant bullshit: we had a skeleton in the first room that belonged to James Halliday - and found a resume from the same dude. In the lab we found a bunch of stuff about like...experiments - there was a were-llama??? Literally - and notes on the topics, and we learned about some scientists who did bullshit and killed Halliday - Vanderweele and Dew.
At the end on the way home we fought this evil monster mech thing and retrieved a flash drive from a dead body. Surina told us how to load it and translated it for us - there was "The Recollé Project" for the label, and it had a map of the city. She confirmed that our memories and items and abilities do belong to us and that it wasn't so much a "reincarnation" as it was a "Reconstruction". "Bringing forth buried information". Which Souji and I covered on the earlier post since it seemed important. She didn't really say more about what was in the files, but I don't think she felt like she was lying.
Other shit...Souji and I talked to some coyotes who cheated at cards, and they didn't like Surina - and she didn't like them. It kinda sounded like her world got destroyed and she was holdin' on to pieces of it, though...?

Do you have any more info on the scientists? The other Founders they might've been aligned with, or whether they were all on their own?
no subject
We didn't get any info on the Founders at all. I mean...one was named Vanderweele, but I don't think it was Founder Vanderweele? Since I am pretty sure that is the dude who we heard briefly as we escaped the labs.
