Team Cognac's access point is in the Recollé Subway System. Team members will find they can travel further in the subway system so long as they approach it in a group of two or more team members. Only Team Cognac team members can see or enter the subway system sublevels at this time. WEEK ONE OBJECTIVE

Once the characters enter the subway tunnels, they will find they are able to progress further than any other team could previously. There is still binary code on the walls and QR codes around, but none of those scan to anything at all. The binary code continuously changes. You may view the area map HERE. The terminal looks less high-tech than one would expect and rather like an ATM machine. It demands a > PASSWORD? You may have to investigate to figure out what that password is.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Turn on the communications terminal.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVE: Submit 10 separate monster battle threads. Each of these threads must be done in different team-up combinations (i.e. the same pair may not submit 10 threads to pass the objective).

The primary objective is required to "win" objective one; completing the secondary objective is optional and may allow team members to gain extra tools to complete next week's objective. Threads which progress towards either objective should be reported to this toplevel. Your primary objective cannot be completed solo, and will require you to work as a team! At least 10 of 13 team members must participate to pass. You must also solve the objective; be sure to communicate with your teammates and please let the moderators know of any drastic player action; everything is currently locked and to open anything you must alert the moderators in the appropriate top-level here!

Meeting up

[Mohammed should be thankful that the Retrospec app has glitched out, that the evil is defeated, but the messages that roll up his screen give him reason to pause. Something is happening in that subway station, the forbidden location, and this may be the one opportunity to learn something new about their tormentors.

He arrives at the subway station with Iggy in tow. The Boston Terrier has been a wonderful partner in fighting monsters, and he can't leave the house without him.]

[ Noah's seen enough horror movies to know that going down here isn't a great idea. It sounds too much like a horror movie, honestly. When he got the messages, he was real tempted to just turn his phone off and go back to brooding at home.

But Prompto reached him and insisted that they go check it out. So here Noah was, looking moody as ever, with two creatures flying behind him. ]

Oh, it is the fucking creepy abandoned subway. Brilliant.

WEEK 7, ROOM 7 (Tsuru, Mafuyu)

[ Alright, she said that she used to play around here a lot, but it was mostly running up and down the rails while the trains were no longer running-- a series of doors is something she definitely would have noticed, and subsequently tried to break into, so... Mafuyu peers around the terminal in the middle, giving up on keysmashing passwords, and heads to the door right across from it.

They've got to start with lucky number 7, easy. ]

[ this tunnel is in terrible condition... but all of these doors need exploring, and they're going for it. with his fireball companion following him, he stops next to her, flicking a thumb towards the door. lucky number 7, what can possibly go wrong? ]

WEEK 1, ROOM 6 (Mako, Mohammed, Prompto)

[Mohammed is no computer expert, and he doubts anyone here is skilled enough to find out the password on their own. It's not a likely solution, but there could be another way to access the terminal in the other rooms.

He heads into the left corridor and immediately notices the partially clawed open door. It's as if someone was trying to get in...or get out. It has better have escaped long ago.

If he had Iggy with him, he would have sent the dog to investigate the room first, but as it is, they will has to check it out themselves.]

I'm going in first, unless there are any objections. [He holds his thumb out as if holding a lighter.]

Wait-- I've got a flashlight on my phone. Let's at least look before we jump in.

[he's being sensible here, and, well, doesn't want anyone's head to get bitten off by one of those weird monsters.]

Week 1, Room 4 (Noah & Ami)

[Well they'd been asked to investigate the different doors. So here Ami and Noah were, standing in front of Room 4. Noah tries the door.]

Locked.

[He scowls a little annoyed, but then he takes a step back]

Step back, I got an idea.

[Ami (her right wrist casted and in a sling) steps backward as directed.]

Well, that makes one of us! Go for it.

Week 1, Room 3 (Fai $ Zoro)

[Zoro tries the handle to door three and finds no resistance. He shrugs back at his partner.]

Looks like it's open. [Which generally isn't a good sign.] Stay sharp. I'll go in first. [If there is a trap it's better he trigger it than the one who can solve the way out of it. Zoro takes the first step and finds his suspicions wrong. There is no trap.

The room just doesn't have a floor.

Zoro plummets a good fifty feet, shouting the whole way down. He hits the floor with a grunt and, miraculously, no broken bones. Huh. Weird. There's something else with him down here–a big bulky cube to his right–but he focuses on his companion first.]

THERE'S NO FUCKING FLOOR.

[he's so done with everything]

[Fai's natural inclination is to stick as close to his partner as humanly possible, given that he's a skinny wizard former stripper social worker with exactly zero fighting ability. So it's probably a good thing that Zoro goes on ahead a few steps, because otherwise Fai would have been right on his heels and falling right with him.

As it is, Fai's eyes go wide and his stomach drops as Zoro disappears from sight. He's too stunned to scream. He's seriously considering dropping to his knees and throwing up when... Zoro's voice calls back up.

...what.

Fai scrambles for the edge of the pit and peers down.]

What-- Where are you?!

WEEK 1, ROOM 5 (Pitou, Mafuyu)

[ Okay... Door 7 was a terrible experience all around, but Mafuyu got food out of that trial so now she's battle hardened and determined to make this work. She and Pitou head towards the door at the far end of the west corridor.

SHE LEARNED FROM LAST TIME and jiggles the handle. It turns easily, but ]

So, can you fight, or what? I dunno if you heard me screaming back there, but...

[ She's pretty sure she's going to be screaming. This entire place is a nightmare. ]

I definitely heard it.

[ But their tone suggests that it did not interest them or concern them much. ]

I can fight, I'm a competitive martial artist, but that depends on what we're fighting. Monsters are new.

[ They'd gotten thrown around by some of those virtual beasts at the convention, and while it had been fun the whole being manhandled thing was not amusing. They aren't so sure they're in the mood to have their pride hurt again today. ]

week 1, room he11

[prompto doesn't like this One Bit, but here they are, because zoro wanted to investigate and needed prompto to come with, for whatever reason. prompto is not happy to keep exploring the subway, not after the zombie scare.]

Dude, seriously? Why door 11? We totally skipped past all the others...

[he's holding onto his gun, pointing it down, keeping his guard up]

Then you should have stopped at one of the others!

[Don't question him, Prompto!! He's too busy fighting this door and after his horrible pit time is generally not. In. The mood.

He throws himself against the door one more time. It doesn't budge.]

... It's no good. Go back and pick one of your doors.

[He leans against the door to catch his breath, motioning Prompto down the hall as a red hot hook lowers right above his head. That sure is another splicer hanging above him, totally unnoticed.]

WEEK 1, ROOM 1 (Team Hot People Only)

[ Well, the sense of organisation here is limited and Laurent is finding some of the debating tiresome, so after a while walking around -- and with no system administrator turning up so far-- Laurent decides it's worth doing a more thorough exploration.

May as well start the beginning, right? He checks his phone one last time before approaching the first door, opening it and glancing around the dimly lit inside. As his eyes adjust enough to realise it's a maintenance closet they also adjust enough to realise there are....

Are those monkeys? He makes eye contact just as one flings something and immediately slams the door. The banana splats against the inside and Laurent closes his eyes, takes a controlling breath, then glances over at the nearest person to him. Which happens to be Grell.

Grell, give him strength, this place is really too much. ]

Monkeys.

[ Monkeys with no face who are throwing things. Just. Really? ]

[she'd seen a few when she had been battling through the city, aggressive little ones that had seemed more irritating than anything else.

the pipe she has is something she hasn't had leave her side, and she rests it on her shoulder.]

Let them out. We won't be able to get in until they're dealt with.

WEEK 1, ROOM 2 (Fuuka, Tsuru)

[ apparently, room 7 is nothing when compared to the horrors that await them in room 2.

after heading down the corridor, rindou and fuuka stand in front of room 2’s door. first, he presses his ear against the door, but hears nothing, since the monsters are probably waiting in ambush... and then he tries turning the handle — but naturally, it doesn’t yield. ]

It won't open... Here, you give it a try.

[As Fuuka tried to turn the handle, it simply would not move. Try as she might, she simply shook her head.]

It seems like it we might need something else to make it open. Do you think there's something around here that could work?

[Although, as she too leaned in closer toward the door, it seems rather odd that it's this quiet]

WEEK 1, monster battle (noah, mafuyu)

[ Room 7 was disappointing, but not 100% disappointing. Like... maybe only 79% disappointing, but the redeeming factor is that some of the food is edible and Mafuyu leaves the room to spread the word to everyone else on the team. Not before stuffing the stale cheeze-its and crackers into her backpack though, she'll just pretend those never existed and let everyone have at the rest of the stuff. ]

[Noah happened to be in hearing range, killing time while others finished their rooms, so he decided to go investigate, rounding the corner to where she is]

[every day they're here, Grell brings medical supplies with her - the first aid can't fix bones or reattach limbs, but there are things she can and will do for everyone involved. she can keep them relatively in one piece, as long as they make the effort to survive.]

[ Noah walks into the area that Grell's set herself up in, clutching a bleeding shoulder that got clawed up by some vampyrs. ]

WEEK 1, Monster battle (Noah & Fai)

[ It was starting to get late, but Noah wasn't in the greatest of rushes to get home. It was still pretty uncomfortable being all alone in that apartment. So instead he ordered food from a nearby restaurant and was currently chowing down on his third bowl of food - this time, curry.

What? He's a growing boy with a parasite arm.

Halfway through that bowl, he'll look up curiously as he looks down one of the halls, speaking to Fai who was somewhere nearby ]

You hear something?

[Even though Fai has always lived alone, he's liking the idea of going back to his own apartment less and less these days. Living alone doesn't mean that Fai does well on his own, and now it feels like a constant reminder of the people missing from his life. How broken everything is. He has half a mind to call up Jirou and ask if he can stay with him for a while, until the world returns to normal. If it ever does.

Right now, however, Fai has his mind set on something else. He's camped out in one of the subway halls, near Noah, with a pile of backpacks and a pile of supplies, and he's methodically portioning out each of the supplies into every backpack. He'd gotten the idea from his own messenger bag, which always has exactly what he needs in it. (Even if that's just a romance novel for some light reading.)

(No, he's not including romance novels in the team backpacks.)

At Noah's question he perks up, eyes wide as he scans the area around them.]

I... don't think so? I wasn't paying attention, I'm sorry. What did it sound like?

Week 1, After Investigating the Rooms

[With how easy the Imps were to take out, the party that went to Room 4 are the first to return to the hub area. In their arms (or sling in Ami's case), they have several jars of extremely pink paint, and they seem to have even acquired a new party member. Probably don't get too attached to him.]

We're back, our room had the letter "T" painted all over.

[He then proceeds to set down the pink canisters he was carrying, and sit down on the ground, pulling out his phone. Time to see what food places nearby deliver]

[OOC: Top-level mingle for discussing findings in the different rooms! Feel free to threadjack or respond to other players. ]

[ Mafuyu's still got one more room to explore, but she makes a pit stop at the hub with a handful of chip bags. She's basically got everything she needs to live down here, and doesn't exactly plan to go home all month. ]

The room across the entrance had a bunch of foodstuff in it. They all start with "C."

[ She's no help with actual password stuff, so she sets her stuff down to investigate what Noah and Ami had found- in particular the paint, in which she stares down at the open can for a moment. Gives into temptation. And dunks her entire left hand into it. ]

[Mako is 100% over the subway by now. He's taken to walking around with the pipe, and seriously considering why he hasn't gone home to get his gun. He has one too... he could be effective with it. Theoretically.

But being practically defenseless... means he's grudgingly taken to walking with others.

Including Zoro. Who... fell into a pit.]

How... did you survive that fall again?

[he needs to get caught up. But that question doesn't quite block out the murmur coming from a bit around the corner.]

[ the atm machine falls to pieces once they hit enter. but don't worry - that's a good thing. when the sides fall off - get out of the way, maybe - a platform is left behind. it flickers once, twice, and then there's the figure of a woman standing on it. there isn't any holographic blue light although she is a hologram; she looks as real as though she's standing there. she's maybe in her late fifties, with white hair twisted back in a neat bun, and spectacles firmly on her nose. her hands are in the pockets of her lab coat, and she's speaking off to the side - ]

- sector five, I don't want to have to tell you again. Oh? [ she focuses on the group, eyebrows raising. ] It seems I may not have to send the intern after all; I was about to give up the alternative asset plan for good, too.

[ her tone is brisk and business like, and she takes her hands from her pockets and reaches off to the side, coming back with some files she flips through. ]

Right. Cognac, then - I suppose I should have called you "Absinthe". Well, let's get to it: are you going to assist us in sorting this mess out or not? I haven't the time for anyone who says "not" at the moment, with all the - for heaven's sake, why is that with you?

[ the woman peers at the imp over the top of her spectacles and now comes that whole awkward moment that was discussed earlier, probably.

ground rules of npc interaction: for this thread i've rnged 2 names from your team roster to interact with her; i'll do this to speed plot-relevant convos along (if you're picked once you're off the rng list, and i will try to make sure everyone has a turn, and if i get through everyone - which i will do my best to do - i'll start from scratch). there will be more than one npc to interact with in the following weeks, although the good doctor is your "main" point of contact.

characters can talk to one another while they talk to her, if the peanut gallery cares to give advice, but i will only be responding to the two picked, and the tag order will be as follows:

as a note, the characters will be unable to tell any of the other groups about this conversation/the information gained from it until the other groups either clear their objectives or the time limit for objective 1 comes for a close. ]

THE INTERN

[ following this, maurice fitzwilliam is a contact member in the retrospec app for all team cognac team members. probably you should only bother him if you have something important to talk about or need help with an objective/monster; he won't really have time to respond to all small talk (if he/i have time he will thread some out) and probably isn't allowed to discuss the game plot that much, but he'll, you know, respond to texts or calls for monsters and objectives. he may prove to be a useful resource if they get stuck later.

maurice being a resource has been unlocked for week 2 as a result of the secondary objective being met. he will respond to objective-relevant things always, but may not respond to other things if there isn't time. ]

[ ring ring ring, it's a video chat call coming through, it can be one way if Maurice doesn't want to show his face, but it's Mafuyu's face on the screen, her voice LOUD and PANICKED and from the video, she's screening and yelling and running away from this monster of dark energy ]

WEEK TWO OBJECTIVE

Team Cognac's updated area map is HERE! They will find that the hall with rooms 8 through 11 is no longer a dead end, and can proceed through it; however, Noah Campbell is unable to enter this area at this time and has been pre-sorted into Team 1 by the NPC.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Split into two teams with separate primary objectives:

Team 1 must complete 10 separate monster battle threads. Each of these threads must be done in different team-up combinations (i.e. the same pair may not submit 10 threads to pass the objective). They will be tasked with clearing monsters out of Enprise.

Team 2 must resolve a prime malefactor situation with Ronnie.

[Mohammed may still be a bit upset about Noah, now that the doctor hates them and he's lumped in with the group known for being hotheaded and spiteful. He's not going with Noah, whatever he's doing. He has three new spray paint cans in case he has to set monsters on fire. He should set a monster on fire.

He'll head over to the unexplored areas with the other half, which immediately turns fruitful with a new, non-doctor face.]

...The subway still works? [Just by his appearance, Mohammed likes him already.]

TEAM 1 MONSTER BATTLE: Mako and Fai

[well, at least they're not in the subways, so it's nice to be outside in the fresh air. This time, sure, they were looking for monsters to fight. But at least this week, Mako has a gun, and they weren't in a confined space. So it's not going to be as exciting. He's pretty relieved, actually.

He hopes it'll stay that way, even if his sleeping schedule is completely messed up.]

So... um. Fai. Do you have any abilities?

[Fai isn't entirely sure how, out of all the people in the city, he got picked for monster hunting duty (when he was so stellar at that last week), but he's very thankful that he's actually remembered how to fight just in the nick of time. So maybe this won't go quite as terribly as the fight in the pit last week.

He smiles over at Mako as they stroll along (outdoors this time!), with his backpack of gear on his back and a long metal bo staff in one hand, currently in use as a walking stick.]
