CLOSED - PRANKING TOGUSA W/ FYNN

Every now and then, Tatsuo thinks that maybe this prank has gotten slightly out of control. But then he remember how much work he and Fynn have put into it (all the hours at the public library printing page after page), and it just seems a shame to not do it at all. So here they are, at the asscrack of dawn, hoodies pulled up to cover their features, at the staff entrance to the crime lab. Hopefully, Togusa won't think to check the log-in records for the crime lab or any of the cameras... at least not right away...

Tatsuo swipes his keycard; there's a soft buzz and then the sound of the bolt retractng. Once the door shuts behind them, he leads the way through to when the crime lab connects to the police station, grabbing a handful of latex gloves from a nearby table as he passes by. He holds out a couple to Fynn as he swipes them into the station.

"Okay, we've probably got a couple hours before anyone from dayshift is even remotely likely to show up. And remember, no fingerprints."

OPEN - GUN SAFETY/SHOOTING LESSONS (7/22)

If Tatsuo isn't standing by the counter at Deadeye, it means he's in the range showing someone how to shoot. Otherwise, he waits for someone to recognize him from the app or inquire about the gun safety class. A small gun case sits on the counter next to him, as well as two sets of safety glasses and protective earmuffs.

[prompto had read tatsuo's post on the network... and decided not to comment to it. he's learnt his lesson about anyone being able to read whatever he posted on retrospec. so, instead, he makes his way to the shooting range and looks around for the man in question.]

[he approaches, seemingly shy and looking very out of place, and taps the older man on the shoulder]

...hey, Tatsuo. Sup.

[Tatsuo is chatting with the girl behind the check-in desk when Prompto taps his shoulder. He turns and gives the younger man a smile when he recognizes Prompto.]

Hey Prompto. Here for my 'safety class'? Please say, yes.

[he flusters at the easy way tatsu just asks about it without making it a fuss about him being there.]

[it's mostly from shame?? rip]

A-ah... Yeah, actually! I thought I might give it a shot-- haha, puns, huh...

[if Tatsuo knew what Prompto had been up to...]

[he does notice the way Prompto is a bit more subdued than usual though]

Hah, well, alright. Just sign this waiver here and the safety class is $5 to help cover the cost of renting the lane.

[he takes the paper with a nod, and signs up... bringing out his wallet to pay up the five buckaroos]

[he hands it all back to tatsuo]

Uhm... so, is it okay if I -- uh, brought my own gun?

[Tatsuo tucks the paperwork into a folder, then picks up the small gun case from the counter and a cardboard box of supplies from the floor.]

No, in fact that's better. That way you can continue to familiarize yourself with it.

[he tilts his head in the direction of the makeshift classroom]

[prompto can only feel blessed that tatsuo isn't asking too many questions or acting like a concerned parent. it was a good choice to come here, he thinks.]

[he heads on over to the makeshift classroom, and as he does, from his backpack, he pulls out this guy. he doesn't hold it from the handle, but sideways, rather, not quite sure how to hold a gun, really.]

Uh... I got this recently.

[Tatsuo makes sure the door is shut firmly behind them before he takes a look at Prompto's gun.]

Whoa. That is an unusual piece. May I?

[He puts what he's carrying down on a table in the room, then he holds out his hand. He has never seen a gun like this before and he has a feeling his other-self hasn't either.]

[ Kiryu's not huge on guns but he is huge on supporting his friends. And Tatsuo's a cop so he should probably learn this stuff? The yakuza definitely use guns, so it seems natural that Kiryu will end up using one eventually too. Better to know his stuff than to just randomly pick up a gun and start mis-using it. ]

Hey, Tatsuo. Can you lend me a hand?

[ He's really only used an air rifle before. Or so he thinks. ]

[Tatsuo isn't that big on guns himself, but if he wants to get that QR code, he has to get this done. Granted, he's still trying to complete the task without 100% complying, but hopefully his work around will still count.]

Oh, hey Kaz. Yeah, what can I do to help? They didn't send you one too, did they?

[Tatsuo pokes the gun case next to him with his elbow.]

[ Kaz looks down. This is just a piece they gave him so he could try. ]

Oh, no. Not yet, anyway.

[ A LITTLE CONCERNING, KAZ. ]

I'm not sure how to load the ammo or anything. The guy outside showed me how, but I only saw him do it once.

[Not yet? Yes, that is concerning Kaz. But Tatsuo doesn't comment, because everyone is dealing with these stupid memories in their own way.]

Uh, that could be about anything. 22 is the size of the ammunition, of which there are more than a few different variations in the amount of gunpowder inside.

[ It's a semi-auto. A revolver would be way too police-like old fashioned for Kiryu. ]

Oh, I guess I always just thought of them as pistols.

[ Pistols = one ammo, revolvers = a different ammo maybe??? ]

[Alright, time for a crash course in handguns!]

Ammunition is pretty important, so it's often the first thing someone mentions when describing a gun.

What you've got there is a semi-automatic pistol, which is different from a revolver.

[Tatsuo points to where his two revolvers are sitting on the ledge.]

Both types are made for different sizes of ammo. It just depends on the model of the gun what it takes. Mine use what's called .38 Special.

[ technically, he's still exhausted, but he's made a commitment, he's already promised to make this trip down to the shooting range.

by the time he arrives, it's easy enough to spot Tatsuo in the firing range, teaching someone how to actually fire a gun properly.

it's fine, he can wait - so kaiba watches him for a moment, before he sits down at one of the chairs at the waiting area. ]

[As Tatsuo and his latest student exit the range, Tatsuo spots Kaiba in the waiting area. Once he reassures his student they did just fine and bids them goodbye, he makes his way over to Kaiba. It's sort of interesting, the different roles Kaiba has that Tatsuo is aware of. Seto Kaiba the game developer, putting on the con in only a handful of days. Seto Kaiba, the boyfriend of his friend Fai. And Seto Kaiba, the guy who ended up with some of his memories.

Right now, only the third is of any interest to him.]

Hello. We can talk in the back. They're letting me use a spare room as a sort of classroom.

[ the only reason why he's not dozing off is because he's still looking at his phone, fingers flying over the keyboard as he composes emails, messages, anything to catch up on what he's missed during his short stint at the hospital.

when Tatsuo approaches, what he does is slide his phone back into his pocket and stand up, extending a hand towards Tatsuo for a polite handshake. they haven't met in person before, but he's heard enough through the Retrospec grapevine to at least form some kind of first impressions.

Tatsuo seems reasonable enough a person. ]

Ah, that's fine. [ at the very least, he appreciates the privacy. ] If nothing, at least I'll walk away from here knowing how to shoot a gun, I guess. [ he gestures. ] Lead the way?

[Tatsuo returns the handshake, his grip firm but still polite.]

Right over here.

[Tatsuo grabs his things from where he temporarily left them on the counter, then leads Kaiba over to the room he's been doing the basic instruction in. Plenty of insulation in the wall to keep the noise from the range down. But that also means any noise from inside the room is harder to hear.

Tatsuo set his things down on a table and turns to look at Kaiba.]

So. Any further ideas how we're going to get things switched back the way they should be?

[ he follows Tatsuo into the room - when he situates himself on one side of the table, Kaiba automatically takes a place on the other side of the table, standing behind the chair, his fingers gripping onto the backrest lightly, mostly for support, although the casual way that he carries himself is supposed to mask it somewhat.

stubborn to a fault, this one. he shakes his head. ]

No. I mean, I've heard from the others that a mutual understanding works, but everyone seems to have kind of. Stumbled upon it on their own.

[ he shrugs. ]

If all else failed, I was thinking maybe, if you taught me how to use a gun, and we ended up using the same gun, it would count. But like I said, trial an error, unless you have any other information from your friends.

No, I haven't heard anything definitive either. So we might as well give your idea a shot.

Alright. So what I have is a Smith & Wesson Model 36.

[Tatsuo unlocks his gun case and removes one of the revolvers inside. He grips the gun by the barrel and offers the other end to Kaiba.]

These were standard police sidearms for decades, and with good reason. They're compact, have good stopping power, and they shoot well.

[ the only sign that the pun is acknowledged is the fact that his lip is curling upwards a little bit, before it goes back to his previous almost neutral expression.

when Tatsuo removes the gun from the case, Kaiba's eyes narrow slightly, almost as if analysing and committing to memory how the gun looks - he's always been a more visual learner than anything. he'll also nod when Tatsuo finishes his explanation, reaching over for the gun, his fingers closing around the handle in a firm grip.

even as he tests the weight of the gun in his hand, there's still a slight frown on his face - he's read about them, certainly, studied manuals, even, but somehow, actually holding one in his hand feels different. ]

I assume this is the one you trained with. Is it yours?

[ he knows better than to point a gun at a person, whether it's loaded or not. so, when he turns to point the gun at a blank patch of wall, his stance is almost textbook-perfect. almost. ]
