eins. SET UP
[ While some people might be lamenting their middle square and the oddly specific problems it poses, Mari is thrilled with hers. It's going to be her first real, actual debut as a DJ. Which means, of course, she needs to make sure people come. It would be horrible to hold a party and have no one there to dance, but luckily for Mari she's got tons of resources at her disposal. It's nothing to create some fun fliers and hang them around town in the days leading up to the event. Different fliers have different designs ranging from the truly weird to the kind of cute like she's trying to cater to several different tastes. but the information is all the same: Recolle Square, Friday July 14, Dusk, DANCE PARTY.

Mari's there ahead of time, of course. She's "borrowed" some employees from her family to help her set up all her music equipment, lights, and set out tables. Smiling (and slightly confused, but never the less enthusiastic) NPCS set up tables full of glow sticks and various kinds of glowing accessories (necklaces, bracelets, rings) in bright colors although Mari seems to have brought with her two purples for every other color.

There's a table of refreshments, too, manned with a few more of those NPCS diligently watching the table to make sure nothing gets tampered with. Almost everything is in a bottle or a can, though. Sealed and non-alcoholic and it better stay that way. There's some "food" too but it's mostly candy, especially those candy necklaces and ringpops for some reason. You might get lucky to snag something like a bag of peanuts but the sugar rush here was clearly not thought through.

Mari's fretting a little bit as she works to set things up, this is her first real set ever, of course, and you might catch her as she flutters from place to place, double checking that everything is absolutely perfect.. It'll be great.

zwei. DANCE EXHIBITION

Hallo Recollé!!

[ At dusk, just as promised and as people (?) are filling it, Mari greets everyone. she's dressed a little bit not like one would expect for a DJ, because her outfit is a little flashier than that. she's also not standing behind the turntables yet. ]

We have something special for you tonight!! Let me introduce Li-Na and Kanan, two beautiful ladies who I am going to help show you something great.

[ Mari's philosophy is that getting one bingo space done is great but multiple bingo spaces are even better, so that "something great" is a dance routine. mari starts the music and the three of them take their places.

the dance choreographed entirely by li-na and mari's happy to help her shine, letting li-na take the center. they'd learned it pretty quickly, but she's pretty sure she's got the hang of the steps. she wants to do the best she can for li-na, it's a big day for her, just like it's a big day for mari's debut as a dj!! their dance is a mix of beginners pop dance move and some more classical ballet, showcasing a lot of what li-na does best.

making multiple dreams come true in one night. now that's really special. ]

drei. PARTYING PARTYING & AFTER

[ after the their exhibition dance, mari heads to start the set. she flicks a switch and the square lights up with colorful lights she'd placed all over, which shine nicely now that it's getting dark. mari's set is part music part light show and everything she's picked out is meant to have a good beat. if it were up to her, the set would be 100% techno, but dance party means including everyone so she plays a little of everything, really.

this hodgepodge of random music would probably be awful under any other circumstance, but mari manages to make the transitions between the songs pretty smooth, and the genre shifts don't feel abrupt or anything. she's constantly full of energy, spinning with the ease of someone who has been doing this for awhile, not the fear of someone doing this for what's ostensibly her first time. it's not all skill, it's mostly just confidence and sheer enthusiasm. and she's got both in spades.

the party goes on well into the night and she keeps playing music until the crowd looks too tired and ready to go home. she's totally wiped after, but still smiling for all she's also sweating up a storm as she oversees clean up. the square is a HUGE MESS after everything. there's streamers and confetti all over the ground and maybe that hadn't been the best idea, but.

but she's really, genuinely happy. and that'll sustain her no matter how long it takes them to clean everything up. ]

Well, horses! Before the chocobos! But I until recently I thought horses weren't real anymore. It's kind of complicated, but I haven't had any problem with the chocobos since I realized the mistake.

For some reason which is grumpy Irish bodyguard absolutely cannot understand Laurent is, indeed, going to turn up. Faolan stays by the door, after glancing around to check for possible murderers or kidnappers, and takes up the position of silent and slightly angry looking sentinel.

Laurent, practiced at pretending like Faolan doesn't exist, ambles in with white shirt sleeves rolled up and sunglasses pushed up into his blond curls. ]

If this turns into some sort of extortion attempt you should know that I'm not an easy target.

[It's impossible to miss something like this, frankly. Not when there's music and festivities filling the night, lit by the glow of thousands of articles of glow jewelry and serenaded by the pulse and rhythm of exceptionally good dance music. And really, at first he'd mostly only come out as a curiosity, having seen the fliers circulating around town during his daily activities, but now that he's here, it's hard not to want to take a little time to just lose himself in the night and the rhythm.

He's been trying to do that more and more, lately — ignoring tomorrow in favor of today, living in the moment and trying his best not to think of the consequences that might follow. And soon enough he's indulging, decking himself out with glow jewelry in as many varied colors as he can get his hands on, eager for the point when nightfall hits properly and his distinguishing features blend away into the night, cloaked behind the cover of darkness and the glow of his jewelry, so that all that's left are the trails of his movement as he sways and twists to the rhythm.]

[ Emil hasn't been to a dance party in awhile, but it's hard to pass up when it's free, in the middle of town, and not on a work night. He's so excited to just let go and have a good time, and here in the dark it doesn't matter that he can't see green or blue, because everyone's a shade of black and neon yellow and orange.

He doesn't recognize the person dancing next to him, but they're such a fluid dancer that Emil warrants a closer look. ]

[ it's easy to spot fawkes, so when the party starts winding down and it's easier for her to get individuals' attention, she waves him on over to talk to him. ]

[She's been coming to Recolle Square quite a bit these past few weeks. First it had been thanks to Prompto, but more and more she's been finding it's a pleasant place to sit and read, especially during the summer. There's few enough people that nobody bothers her, but enough that she can occasionally sit and people-watch when she needs a break.

So imagine her surprise when she finds the square being cleared out. Glowsticks, lights, music equipment . . . it's not such a surprise to find Mari in the middle of all this.]

Putting on a party, are we?

[ You know she didn't even see the flier or anything, she just happened to be out at night (her new red eyes only being able to endure the night without putting sunglasses on... and she happened upon the square and thus happened upon the dance party. The forty year old 5' woman had entered the crowd, joined in, and generally just made a show of herself.

She could have knocked out some bingo squares, right? But the thought didn't quite come to mind for her. Instead, she just adapts to the mood.

... Man, these are kids though aren't they, none of these drinks are alcoholic. It's actually with that thought in mind that sees her lingering here after people are starting to disperse. The organizers will stick around after, right? She's curious about the blonde who'd been up on stage. ]

[ mari sticks around until the bitter end, playing music and then leaving some stuff running quietly while she goes to start helping out. she catches sight of a very pretty (and short) woman and goes to talk to her - she'd been having a good time as far as Mari could tell ]

Li-Na has to remind herself to smile as Mari introduces her and Kanan. Normally she tends to go for a serene expression just before she dances, an aura of dignity. But this isn't ballet, not completely. This is something mixed, to matched how she feel inside, like she's standing with one foot on either side of a stream. She's not sure if she's done this properly, if the moves will convey the meaning of the song the way she wants them to...

But then the music starts and, like always, Li-Na is compelled to dance. The audience fades from her mind as the music takes over. Suddenly, she is aware of every inch of her body, from her toes to her fingertips. With each breath she takes, she draws more and more of the music into her, and her blood sends it rushing all through her body.

Some dancers long for the glory of the solo spotlight, but Li-Na loves dancing as part of a group best, so having Mari and Kanan on either side of her keeps get from getting nervous as they do the first sequence of moves.

Mari has known for a long time that she wanted to be a DJ. She loves music, loves the energy of the crowd, loves seeing people smile together and dance together. But dancing on stage with Li-Na and Kanan is completely different. She thought this was all just about helping out Li-Na, but as she starts to move (trying hard not to forget any moves... 1...2...3...4...) she's surprised by how amazing it feels to be dancing with other people on stage like this.

It's a different energy than being in a crowd at a club, of course, and she hopes that people enjoy it, but there's something really special about sharing this space with other girls and seeing them get the spotlight. She's so happy for Li-na and Kanan, and for herself, also, but mostly for the other girls. It's enough to make her not worry so much about the steps.
