[Fireflies all around]

[Kuramochi finished unhooking everything after the power went out. At least he didn't try to play anything before the power went out or he would have been pretty upset. He wonders if there's any other place that has power. He grabs his phone, gives a quick shout that he's going outside to check, then walks outside.

The first thing he notices are the fireflies. He's used to seeing them during the summer, but not this many. He tries to ignore it as he walks out of the complex to see if the power is down for everyone when he notices that they're following him. He looks around to see that the fireflies are following others too. What's going on? It makes him wish he had a jar to catch them in. At least it would give him some more light to use besides his phone. He'll keep an eye on the fireflies. It's weird for them to follow him and others around too.

He can't be the other one who notices this, right?]

[NEITHER DOES KURAMOCHI. DAVE'S PLAN IS THE BEST RIGHT NOW

Just give Kuramochi a moment here while he tries to adjust to being on a chocobo. Once he stops leaning to the left and finally adjusts himself he rides over to Dave.]

Okay! Let's go on three!

[He hopes he doesn't fall off this chocobo.]

One, two, three!

[ dave is too well balanced to fall off but. he has like no experience here and will go slowish? ]

[Kuramochi is a little unbalanced at the start. He's better once he finds his balance and goes around the track at the same speed Dave is going. The thing that keeps surprising him the most about the chocobo is the way that their feathers move when he goes around the track. He knows that chocobos are the animals that they have in Recolle, yet he remembers horses. It feels familiar yet not familiar at the same time.]

[ it does not feel remotely familiar to dave, who had no memories of chocobos being a Thing ever due to being app round one but LIVE AND LEARN.

anyway as they approach the finish line he will try? to speed up? ]

[Kuramochi notices the way Dave speeds up, he speeds up a little too. His competitive nature coming out as he goes to try to win. Well, he doesn't really care if he wins it's fun to see who's going to win though.]

Okay, there are a couple of nice places that you can draw. There are some places that are away from town if you wanted a quiet place to draw.

[Going on deliveries Kuramochi has gone to many different places that is much quieter than the main city. Places he goes sometimes just to take a walk or to relax for a while.]

I can show you around, if that's alright?

I could work with either or, but I suppose it would be nice to know some quiet places.

[ Not that he doesn’t have quiet places to draw at but maybe he’ll discover something new. ]

Great! Let's see where are we?

[Oh, that's right, he just walked from the drugstore so they're in Chata. Let's see they're not that far from Apprassage there are a few nice places in between the main cafe and restaurants that he goes to from time to time.]

If we turn around and go back towards the drug store we'll be on our way to the closest cafes in Apprassage. From there I can show you a way where we won't run into many people. I'm pretty sure it's pretty busy right now.

[The back way always helps him when he wants to maneuver around the crowds.

Oh before we begin my name is Kuramochi Youichi. It's nice to meet you.

Oh, that sounds nice.

[ He would look up toward the sky to see where the sun is, but he really doesn’t like it since the color disappeared. ]

Mine is Takao Koutarou, it’s nice to meet you too.

[Everything does look different without the color. Kuramochi looks forward for the color to start coming back too even if getting blue and green back freaks him out a little. Well, that's something he can think about a little later. Kuramochi grins before he checks his phone to make sure he hasn't missed any messages before they set off.]

Okay, we start going back towards the drug store. It's the closest one for me to go to whenever I need something. The path I take home sometimes is one behind the cafe that serves different sandwich combinations. I've gone there a few times it's not too bad. So, um, do you draw as a hobby or are you a professional artist?

[ Why ever would it freak him out. ]

A sandwich shop, then? Or do they sell other things as well? Ah, you could say it’s both. I do it professionally, but I also do it during my free time when I’m not working.

[It came back so fast it took him by surprise. He'll probably be calm when the next changes start happening.]

Yeah it is, though sometimes they can combine different parts of a sandwich if that's something you want. They sell regular sandwiches with a soup of the day but can offer something different too. Something like chicken with turkey or corned beef with ham and other things like that.

[He normally doesn't go for the more unique combinations. He tries to keep things simple.]

Really? That's pretty cool. What kind of things do you draw?

Oh? I see, that sounds interesting.

[ But he’d probably not try it out on his own. Normal sandwiches, maybe, but it’s a bit further away from his atelier than the seven-eleven he usually goes to. ]

All sorts of things, but a lot of people, most of all. Humans are interesting to draw.

[ He’s wondering how much of that is “alien”, because is he even human? Was he before? Is he, any more? ]

Oh yeah I got to figure out how to make sure that it still stands up.

[Well, that's something they can figure out when they get there. Kuramochi hums as leans down to pack down more sand.]

Mine has been going pretty well. Right now I'm on vacation from my delivery job and giving tours at the school. I just got on this Retrospec network and heard that it's pretty strange.

[It's something that he's slowly getting used to.]

I guess if we make a solid enough base...? Sandcastles aren't my specialty, though.

[ But she'll sure try, adding some water to pack the sand in place. ]

That's cool. I wanted to help out at school but too but I haven't had as much time... I can't believe we forgot about blue and green, you know?

Hmm, that should make it easier for it to stand. I don't know how long it will last if we can build it up and make it last for awhile then I think we should be good.

[He does appreciate the help and goes to pack some more sand in place.]

I probably won't be able to give as many tours once I go back to work. I'll have to see what my schedule is though. Yeah I can't believe we forgot that either. When the color came back I thought something was wrong with my eyes. Now it seems natural to have blue and green again, pretty weird isn't it?

Do you think we have to take a picture of it or something?

[ They could probably do something with perspective if that was the case... but that might be cheating. Either way, this is gonna take hard work!! But the sand is nice and it's beautiful day even with the gray sky and gray ocean... ]

Yeah, it's very strange. It's like, obviously those colors exist, you know? [ She shrugs. ] What kind of job do you do? I'm working at the aquarium this summer.

Hmm, it didn't say, though we should take a picture to make sure in case it needs that kind of proof.

[They might have to take a picture if it looks like the castle is going to start to wobble. It's not going to stop them! It is a nice day out even if it would be better without the gray ocean. It still looks so weird to see the sky and ocean now that he remembers that blue exists.]

Right? Now it feels so natural. Oh, I'm a delivery boy for one of the nearby restaurants in my neighborhood. The aquarium sounds nice, I haven't been in a while. Do alot of people come around during the summer?

Just in case, it might be worth it.

[ That's definitely another concern. If the tide comes in and takes away their beautiful sandcastle... it'd be too sad. ]

Oh, cool. Which one? [ She giggles a bit. ] Yeah, lots of people come in for the AC during summer break. It's a little less hands-on than the beach when it comes to meeting up with ocean life.

[ She's an ocean nerd, don't get her started. ]

Yeah? I haven't done anything too ridiculous yet, though from what I heard about the network it's only a matter of time. I didn't know how strange this Retrospec is. It's my first time being on the network.

[He honestly finds everything so suspicious already when it comes to this network.

This isn't a bad way to get introduced to it. My first weird thing was shrinking to smaller than a bug.

I'm majoring in English at RU. What about you?

I'm a third year at Recolle High School. I'm going to college next year. Can you tell me how it's like? I've been told that there are some differences, but what are they?

[He may also be nervous about college, though he's pretty sure that's natural.]

There's a couple of things, but I think the biggest one is that you have to be a lot more self-motivated. It's way easier in college to skip a class because you don't feel like it that day and tell yourself that it's one class so it doesn't matter, and then do that a bunch of times until you've failed that course. Don't do that.

[Don't be like him.]

[Youichi isn't the only one ready to spend some time in air conditioning. After his time at the beach then before when he raced he welcomes the break. It's not long before he gets ready to go meet Mao at the Towers. Kuramochi walks inside and it doesn't take long for him to find Mao.]

Hey! This place looks busier than normal doesn't it?

[ Mao nods as he starts away from the wall and into the crowd toward Youichi. ]

Yeah. You'd think with the great weather more people would be outside but I guess it's too much for some people.

[ Like him and Youichi for example but shh. ]

So do you have any idea what kind of stuff Jim registered for?

[They deserved some cool air.]

I've been trying to figure it out, but I have no idea what Jim wants. I don't know who this Jim is either. He has something to do with retrospec right? Now that I'm not somewhere hot I can look up what Jim wants. Does he have his registry online somewhere?

[Not to mention he's frustrated much faster when he's hot.]

Yeah, he's the... [ Mao's about to say something really rude until he remembers chances are Retrospec will pick it up. Literal spyware. ] The dude who does all their PR even though he's really terrible at it. You'll get to know him soon enough.

I'm sure his registry's online somewhere, or else the Towers probably has somewhere we can access it. I have no idea what his taste will be like, but probably not cheap. [ Couldn't be that easy. ]

He sounds like quite a guy. [Kuramochi wants to say he sounds like an asshole. He's trying not to cuss out loud too much when he's around in public now. Still, he sounds like an asshole.]

Of course it's not cheap. [It couldn't be that easy.] Well we're here we can go see if the Tower has something around that we can look it up.

[It's also an excuse to stay in the cooler air longer.]

He's something all right. [ Something in Yoichi's tone tells Mao that he got what he was trying to say. It'll be clearer soon enough, unfortunately.

Mao nods and starts half looking around for some kind of terminal they could enter Jim's information into to get his registry. Hopefully they don't need his whole name... ]

Not bad! I got a volunteer position working at the convention next month so I'm looking forward to that. Are you going?

[He hopes they don't need his last name. If they do then maybe they can look it up online, but one think at a time.]

That sounds great! Yep I'm going! I have some money saved up too so I'm going to see what I can get this time. I might go by the video gaming room if I remember. Are you looking forward to anything at the convention?

[ Chances are Jim's just found a way to get every other Jim, Jimmy, and James erased from the registry. The guy's a piece of work. ]

My friend Anya's having her debut concert there, so that's the biggest thing for me. [ He looks impossibly proud. ]

I'm curious about all of it, though. I'll probably look around while I'm working and figure it out from there.

[Kuramochi forgets about the registry for a moment to give his biggest smile.] Me too! I can't wait to see her perform. [He's really looking forward to it and can't hold back his excitement over it.]

Yeah I'm going to be wandering around a bit. If you want to meet up let me know and we can do something.

[His mind goes back to that Jim guy as he wonders what a guy like him would want?]

It's going to be the highlight of the con, I'm sure of it.

[ Mao can't think of anybody who wouldn't be excited to see Anya perform. It's going to be amazing. ]

Sure! I'll text you when I'm off, I have mostly morning shifts so I'll have the afternoons free. If there's anything you want to see specifically, though, don't wait up or anything.

[ It's hot. It is hot as hell, and Koushuu is not going to bake in the apartment building, even if he's been in hotter places before while his dad was still part of the army. But he has to - pause for a second, when he sees all of the fireflies.

Of course a lot of people seem to ignore them, or just not notice them, because they probably... don't realize it's weird. Like everyone when they were shrunk. But at least one familiar face does, and he heads towards his equally as confused senpai. ]

Have they done anything besides - [ He gestures around them, in greeting. ]

[Kuramochi turns to Koushuu as he shakes his head.]

No, they just follow you around. They only follow certain people around though, I think they only follow someone if they have retrospec. I don't know why there are so many around us. It's easy to ignore them, at least between the two of us there's some light around here.

It's always something with this stupid app. [ Koushuu rubs the side of his neck, batting his other hand at some of the bugs as they float around them. ]

Have to wonder if this is where all of our power went to, with them all buzzing around like this. But you're right, at least we can see.
