[ This is no ordinary "hopscotch".

This is the king of all hopscotches. It stretches down a sidewalk of Viea Village, from her house down to the end of the block. It's monstrous, with various areas marked off in chalk as "dangerous" and "sea monsters, BEWARE!!" and all of that. Numbers are stretched out as well, connecting edges being thin bridges between the large spaces with actual numerals on them. Also, everything is either red, yellow, orange, purple, or white.

Essentially, Elizabeth had too much time on her hands, and now Goro's unfortunately been roped into this. He's Akechi in her phone, so he's the first name on her list... ]

...and if you land on any of the obstacles that would normally end your life, such as monsters or lava, you must return to the beginning. Any questions?

[......... Okay, so, um.

Wow.]

Where do I begin... is it, um, truly necessary to have all of these squares, Miss Velveteen?

[ ... So all Elizabeth really knows about Mari is that she loves horses because their noses are soft, and that Chocobos are good too but horses are better...

but this is obviously enough to think that Mari's definitely been around one or the either before, and thus she's a prime candidate for this square!! Hence: she's been invited down to the ~~horse~~ Chocobo stables-school-place in Apprassage for a ~special race~. The winner, of course, will get a prize, which she's promised to reveal as soon as Mari gets here, along with the rest of the details.

And once she is: ] We'll do three laps around the school's track, and the loser will treat the winner to an all-you-can-eat buffet! Or to food in general, whichever. I'd quite like an all-you-can-eat ice cream adventure, especially with this heat, but I'm not certain those exist...

[ Elizabeth's basically been hanging out by the fountain in Recollé Square all day, waiting for people to toss in their coins so she can ask them their wish. Most have declined to answer, because if they tell then it won't come true; others declined because it's not something she can help with.

So she's still here when Ann comes by, and this is it. She's decided she's getting the jump on this. She'll ask before anyone has the chance to throw in some dumb coin!! ]

Are you here to wish for something, and if so, what is it? I'll do very my best to grant it.

[ SOMETIME AFTER FISHING AND WISHING...

It's just luck that they have the same square!! And what better way to clear it than to do it together. Elizabeth's sort of going for a full-clear on this thing, okay, she'll opportunistically ask people about their sheets and match when she can—

For now, though, the question is: ] Do we go acapella, or do we find an instrumental version to sing...? I'm partial to the former, and it's more in line with traditional caroling... though I suppose this caroling is anything but traditional, seeing as it's both summer and not the usual song for it.

There's no harm in the option of both, Miss Velveteen. Surely you agree that an activity is twice as enjoyable if there's something to look forward to at the end, even if it's one you already enjoy in the first place.

[ for her part, she's picking a lovely white chocobo that looks sort of like it just wants to go back to sleep. she pretty much chose that one because she's never ridden a horse, much less an oversized bird, before, and thought its laid-back disposition might be easier to handle. ]

Be more cheerful, Akechi. This is a game designed specifically for such a thing.

[ She'll throw her yellow stone!! Ooh, that went rather far... She'll hop until she gets to it, humming as she passes Goro... and stops on thirteen. Lucky number thirteen. ]

Alright, better toss this time!

Way better, he's whistling softly as he makes way downtown, passing Elizabeth and narrowly avoiding one of the "back to the beginning" traps she'd planted, landing on eighteen with a smile.]

[ Oh, hers is even better. In fact, it's the best, and she carefully edges around a few pitfalls and stops just short of the first big boss monsters at square thirty-three: a chimera-looking creature.

... Which is not the best looking chimera, because Elizabeth is not an artist, but details. ]

[ ann is here! well. more like she's just passing by the fountain, and there happens to be a wild elizabeth sitting on top of it, granting wishes to those who desire it. she's caught off-guard by the question, and actually has to look around before she points her finger at herself. ]

Huh? Are you talking to me?

I...don't know, I don't really sing...

[ ann is so embarrassed right now? she's going to do it, but she's going to sing very, very quietly. um. sorry elizabeth. ]

[The gods favor her, it'd seem. Maybe he should've asked for luck over courage during Tanabata.

Well, it lands sixteen ahead of him this time, so he carefully dodges the various squares until he steps onto Elizabeth's

and then one past it, onto the boss monster. He stares down at it, then back at her.]

How, er, do we defeat this again?

No, I was speaking to the bird behind you.

[ it's not quite sarcasm, it's a little too light for that, but it isn't quite teasing either.

she nods though, gesturing idly with her hand. ] Yes, young miss, it was you to whom I was offering my services to. ...This time. If you have need of them.

Oh, there's no defeating this or any of the other bosses unless you pick up a sword and its subsequent upgrades from the treasure chests spread across the board, which you can only do if you land upon them. The initial weapon is at square 16.

The only thing for you to do is accept your defeat and return to the beginning... Or convince me of your magic powers. Magic, after all, needs no physical weapon, though a wand or staff to help guide its way helps.

[He shakes his arms out, staring determinedly at the chimera as he straightens them out, feet the width of his shoulders to root himself to the ground.

A pause, both for dramatics and because he needs words. Um. Um!!]

Oh god of thunder, heed my plea. [Good start.] Let all fall before your power! Strike down that which blocks my path! Lightning Strike!

[........ is that okay. he's glancing at her from the corner of his eye. how is that.]
