[ Leo gave her a thumbs up from around a couple of noodles. ]

I’m good to go! Let’s do this.

[She headed to the beach then, pretty much making small talk.

Once they hit the beach she piles out and throws open the door, noodles flying out everywhichway.]

Okay! Help me gather them up and let's get started!

[ Leo's excited to see where they can go with this, so he's quick to gather up as many noodles as he can without a car for how ridiculous it looks. They're nearly as tall as he is, but the beach has seen weirder things, let's be real. And once they find a good spot, he just dumps them all on the sand unceremoniously.

They can sort the mess out while they build! ]

So we just start at the bottom, right? If we anchor it in the sand, it shouldn't get blown away.

That's what I was thinking.

[She's out and rooting around in the trunk, picking through stuff until she digs out a trenching shovel. Holding it up, she tosses it out onto the sand, where it lands with a -shunk- sticking straight up.]

We can use that to partially bury the base. Get some wet sand in the...[tossing out a bucket.] bucket and lay out a triangle. That should be the sturdiest way.

Exactly! Man, you came prepared.

[ He wouldn’t expect much else of her, honestly. But! It’s time to get started, so he goes to gather the wet sand and hauls the bucket back. ]

So, we can either, like, cut one up for the base or use three of them. Depends on how big we want this thing to be. [ He eyes the pool noodles. ] I say go big or go home. What do you think?

I think I agree.

[Fishing in her pocket, she pulls out a long pocketknife and tosses it to him.]

I say we use three, but cut them to connect better.

[ Leo catches it easily and grabs a few noodles to get them started, already sawing into them as he speaks. ]

Good idea! So what do we want to do for the actual sculpture part? I figure we can just throw 'em all together and see how it goes, but if you've already got an idea, we can roll with that.

Nah, I was thinking the same thing.  Maybe some post-modern art nonsense.

[A squid or something.]

[ He laughs. ]

They’re going to be begging to put this thing in the MoMA by the time we’re done.

[ Aaaand with the base more or less done, he sets it evenly in the sand and goes for a neon green noodle. He sets it upright, in the middle of the base. ]

Build around this one, maybe? Or should we start from the bottom and build up instead of out?

[Pen nods, already grabbing a second noodle and her glue-gun.]

Build around it. Let's start with making a tripod leaning on that.

[ Leo holds the noodle up just long enough for her to secure the second one before he goes to grab two more. ]

One tripod coming right up!
