CEDRIC; LADYBUG CATCHING

[Up until now, Minako and Cedric have really only seen each other at the gym, and their work out schedules are never quite so aligned that they finish at the same time. Which means they've never hung out after they see each other at their sweatiest.

But today, that changes! At Cedric's invitation, they're at the park and ready to go searching for ladybugs.]

Hmm, so I guess we should figure out where we're most likely to see them first, huh? Do you know off the top of your head?

[posidon]

[The Olympic swimmer seems to be particularly excited for something as mundane as catching ladybugs. Maybe because he never actually considered it before, but that's besides the point. What matters is that they're going to catch some!

He even went onto the internet to research where to find them. This was very serious and it would be sad if they came up empty handed. Not that he's going to keep whatever they catch. That'd be cruel.]

I looked it up online and it said lush plant growth. Alfalfa, clover, and grains like wheat and corn are apparently popular to attract them. I don't know what alfalfa is, but finding clovers shouldn't be a problem. Right?

[complementing]

Alfalfa is this weird tasting stuff that I'm pretty sure doesn't grow here...but yeah, we can definitely find clovers instead! I know just the place!

[She gestures to him and starts heading deeper into the park. The pathway leads to small clearing connected to a field, with patches of clovers dotting the whole space.]

Tada!

[Cedric seems rather enamored by it all. It's still kind of unsettling with the lack of colors. It's still pretty regardless and Cedric fumbles to take his phone out so he can take a picture. They'll eventually get colors back anyways. He assumes.]

You mind taking a picture with me? This is great!

[Minako hopes the same, which is why she still devotedly takes selfies around the park and beach whenever she visits, even if everything is gray gray gray.

Snap! And then she's peering at the picture, gasping.]

Ced, there's a ladybug in the picture!

[Cedric kind of just loved taking selfies. It was fun to look at all the different people he had taken pictures with even if they're complete strangers.]

You're right! They're easier to see among all the gray. [Convenient, but still kind of unsettling.] I think we'll be able to catch plenty here.

Hopefully next time we do this the clovers will have regained their colors though.

I cross my fingers every day, hoping for either green or blue back. Though I'm a little biased and would want blue first.

[She's stepping into the clover field now, keeping an eye out for ladybugs and occasionally reaching out to try and cup one in her hands. Even with their vivid red against the gray of the foliage, they're tiny enough that it's hard to see them until they've already zipped out of your reach.]

No, no! I agree. I would love nothing more than to have blue back. I would want both back, of course, but I'm sure everyone would like to wake up with a sky that isn't grey. I, personally, would like blue back for the water. It's a little disheartening to always swim now and the water is what it is.

[Cedric crouches low so he can sift through the field. It's easier to find things if he's this low to see them, right?

He never realized how small they were before. He's seen ladybugs before, but it's different when he's looking for them. They're so tiny!]

This is harder than I had expected it to be.

[She hums in soft agreement to everything he said, basically, and tries in vain to catch another ladybug before huffing and flopping into the gray grass.]

Maybe we just have to let them come to us?

[Cedric lets out a laugh as he drops down next to her. He hasn't managed to successfully catch one himself. Maybe they should have invested in nets or something. That would probably have helped them out. Hindsight.]

I'll be honest. I had expected this to be a little easier, but that isn't the case at all.

Does it count if we have them come to us?

[complementing]

Probably? We're still the ones catching them, in the end. And it's easier this way! We can relax a little bit.

[Lying down like this is so much more comfortable! All she has to do is reach out and try to catch any ladybugs that fly close to her head instead of chasing them. Like so.]

Aaah, almost had that one...

I guess that's true! I always imagine it being a pretty active thing, but it doesn't have to be, does it.

[Just laying in the clovers is pretty nice. He's so used to being a busybody that he doesn't relax a lot. Ironic given Siestas exist and his mother had always been pretty laidback.

He glances at Minako and-]

Minako! One landed on your shoulder.

[complementing]

[She tenses up and veeeery slowly turns her head to try and get a glance at it. It's still there? Good!]

Try and catch it, Cedric!

[posidon]

[Oh no. What if he screws up? Oh crap.

He carefully reaches out towards her before pressing his finger against her shoulder where the ladybug is. He doesn't think he'd be very successful just trying to grab it, so maybe he can just kind of nudge it a bit.

It ends up working though and the little ladybug crawls onto the end of his finger.]

It's so small!

[Minako's face splits into a wide grin, and she pulls her phone from her purse to snap a picture. There's just something so endearing about the scene, how big Cedric and his wonder is in comparison to the ladybug.]

Aww, it likes you~

[Cedric just seems completely enamored by the small creature. It would be so easy to kill it, but here it is just crawling around his finger. How cute... Imagine how small it would seem if he were eight feet and not like five feet right now.]

We did it though! We caught one.

They're really cute though. When you can see them up so close.

[More like Cedric caught one, but she smiles for the fact that he included her.]

Right? And they're supposed to be lucky!

[posidon]

[It landed on her! She helped. By...being there. It was very important that it landed on her!]

Ladybugs weren't really something I saw. I usually saw cicadas, but I spent more time on the coast. I imagine ladybugs aren't as plentiful. [He also didn't really go looking for them.]

I think getting to do this was already pretty lucky. I wouldn't have done this if not for the bingo card honestly.

Right? As ambivalent I am about Retrospec, the bingo game isn't that bad...it's given me a chance to talk with new people and do weird things I wouldn't have taken the time to do before.

[She smiles peacefully and closes her eyes.]

Do you have the firefly bingo space? We could do that too, I think the river deeper inside the park will have some fireflies around, later tonight.

There's a lot of things I wouldn't typically do that I ended up doing because of the bingo card. It was a lot of fun for the most part! [There were some squares he couldn't do. Like slapping someone. Why would he do that? Jeez!] I got to meet a lot of new people through it, so I'm glad.

I don't. [He looks completely enamored at the mention of fireflies though. He didn't even realize the ladybug had decided to take flight and flutter away. It's alright though. They technically caught it and he has no reason to keep it.] I have never seen fireflies before though. I'd like that.

Fireflies are just as cute as ladybugs, it'll be great.

[She glances at her wristwatch.]

We still have an hour or so until dusk, though. Do you just wanna stay here catching ladybugs until then?

I look forward to it!

[He seems pretty excited. Even if he is kind of just laying in the clovers. But still excited!]

Yes! I kind of like this. I usually do not get to relax too much during season, so this is a nice change of pace. [He's always pretty active that he forgets to just take a moment to relax a lot.] I didn't even realize this field was here despite visiting the park so much.

Yeah, the park is bigger than it seems, huh? I think the whole city is like that...

[Definitely pretty suspicious. But! That's not the point right now.]

Hmm, wanna have a competition? Let's see who can catch a lady bug with the most spots!

It's exciting to travel through the city. I feel like I find something new everyday about it. It keeps things, what is the word, alive? [Lively or exciting is probably what he was looking for.]

Loser has to treat the other to lunch. [If they're making it a competition; gotta have a wager, right?]

You're on. Since we have an hour, why don't we make it a thirty minute competition? And then we can head to a better firefly catching spot after.
