[closed] alcohol is a misunderstood vitamin
WHO: Vera, Dante, Ari, Alison, Yin, Arlene, Pen, Freya, Minako, & Lucy (also being crashed by Prompto and Terra)
WHERE: Pen's place
WHEN: Afternoon/Evening of 7/1
WHAT: 4th of July Weekend Party!
WARNINGS: Underage drinking, recreational drug use and potential PG13 acts
It's Saturday afternoon in the dead of Summer, where the grey grass burns under the bright sun, and you can never quite be sure if it's going to rain or not because the sky is always grey too. This whole colors situation can be pretty depressing if you let it get to you, so a group of college buddies decided to get together and throw a big ole bash to bring everyone's spirits up. Better yet, with the holiday around the corner, they can make it into a cookout to celebrate the old Red, White, and... Grey.
I. - Afternoon
There's plenty of ways to keep cool in the summer heat. The fridge is stocked with beer and spirits, along with tea, soda, and lemonade. Outside, the group work in shifts to cook up a mountain of burgers and dogs. Pen's big back yard offers all the room you need to stretch out and relax, either at the table, or on a blanket on the lawn. Someone brought some Cornhole to play, and eventually someone has the good idea to set up some Beer Pong tables.
So come mix yourself (or someone you like) a drink, grab some grub, and come play some games while the sun is still up!
II. - Evening
The sun goes down and the bugs come out, meaning the party has moved indoors. Not that things have slowed down at all. In fact, with the buzz setting in, things are just starting to warm up. Leftover food is sitting in the kitchen, and the booze still flows.
Everyone's gathered in the common room, telling stories and catching up. A game of Never Have I Ever breaks out, leading into Truth or Dare. Time to show the others just how confident you really are.
III. - Night
Things are starting to wind down, but before everyone conks out for the night (or heads home in an Uber-- Vera's not letting her friends drive home drunk), there's one last surprise. It took a bit of effort setting up, and an ample amount of drunken fumbling, but a display full of imported fireworks has been diligently assembled in the back yard. Though guests are welcome to do more than watch! There's also firecrackers and sparklers for anyone who wants to have some explosive fun of their own. Just don't aim them at anyone else, okay?
After the show, everyone is more than welcome to stick around. Some citronella candles burn outside, keeping most of the bugs at bay. Now might be the perfect opportunity to get close with that special someone, maybe watch the dark clouds roll by, or stare at the big bright moon in the sky. It's amazing how beautiful life can be when you stop long enough to notice it.

BATTLESHOTS
Players place their five ships randomly on a 10x10 grid, then take turns calling coordinates of that grid to try and find the other player's ships. If the player misses, then it is their opponent's turn. If the player hits, your opponent must drink the shot on that grid tile. Whoever sinks all of their opponent's ships first, wins. There's seventeen shots in all, so you might not want to use the really strong stuff. Just a warning!
Players are more than welcome to come up with additional stipulations as well!]

That Person hiding in the back room playing with the cat all night
It took about...twenty minutes for her to decide she'd had enough People and retreat into a room with less or no people. She'd come out eventually (she was thirsty and/or hungry and/or bored), just. People.]
I.
[Occasionally Lucy can be spotted outside making off with the...salt shakers? Particularly when Freya is anywhere near the grill. She doesn't go far, just whisks them out of sight behind a solo cup or potted plant for awhile.
Um.]
II.
[It was substantially harder to sulk in a corner when the party moved inside, though. Lucy spent much more time in the kitchen instead, staring speculatively out of windows (was that a firefly?) or rifling through the fridge for something to drink. She usually timed walking into the room when she didn't hear voices, but with all the noise from the living room she didn't always get it right.]
III.
[Lucy sightings were much more common by now, especially when things spilled back outside again. There was more space, and more things to watch. Like the moon, or the fireworks, or people making questionable decisions with said fireworks.
Currently, Lucy was sitting on a railing near the door remarkably steadily, with a good view of the fireworks to come. There's a little shimmer in the air a few feet away from her, and a firefly rather quizzically buzzing around it. It lands, flashes its tail, then interrupts itself to hover in a circle before repeating the process.]

Rayne couldn't pick a promptshe would've checked in on Lucy multiple times over the night, and her internal clock says it's about time to do it again, Minako wanders the house, calling for her roommate.]Lucy? I
Freya spends most of her time early on fussing with the grill. There's all sorts of food: hot dogs, burgers, black bean burgers just in case anyone's vegetarian, corn, veggie kebabs...
Her hand keeps flashing out behind her towards the seasonings, only to be met with empty air. "I swear, when I find which one of you weasels keeps takin' the salt..."
III
After the fireworks, when things are winding down, Freya wanders outside to lay on the grass. She'd stopped drinking after all she'd had in that Never Have I Ever; she's got one of those candles nearby to dissuade the bugs, stabilized on a plate. Even with the bugs, the warm night was pleasant enough to brave them.
Wildcard
Freya's around for the yard games, during the indoor portion for conversation, and during the fireworks show. Surprise me, I'll roll with it.
II
Arlene holds up her hands, trying to look innocent despite the water balloon clutched in one of them. It really isn't meant for Freya, not this close to the grill; but under the circumstances, it probably doesn't look good.

[So after a. Thing. With Dante last month at Sorey's ghost hunting trip to the schoolhouse, Minako isn't inclined to socialize with him very much. But Pen had invited her, and Minako genuinely would like to get to know Pen and her circle of friends better, so she makes a promise to herself to be civil (and to get just drunk enough to take the edge off her annoyance) before she arrives.
And she arrives! With cupcakes! Because of course she does. It's a little mini American flag's worth of cupcakes. Red, white, and...a faint purple, because she refuses to serve gray ones.]
Here, help yourself! They're strawberry daiquiri.
III. COME ON LET YOUR COLORS BURST
[Fireworks remind Minako of summer festivals back at home just as much as anything else does, so of course she's going to come out to watch them. The sparklers grab her attention the most, though. When she's not watching the others and laughing at their antics, she'll be off to the side with them, phone in one hand, the other twirling the sparkler in the air into random shapes, letters, and swirls.]
...this one came out pretty good!
Oh, hi! You wanna try?
[Otherwise you might find her sitting on the grass with her head tilted back, looking up at the moon and humming a soft tune to herself.]
I
[Vera can't help but take one, picking off the little flag and setting it on the counter before unwrapping the sweet treat. The heiress is also a fan of covering up her lack of blue, as evidenced by the new light lavender contacts she's wearing in her eyes.]

I.
Vera's no chef, but even she can handle flipping burgers. Mostly. Look not all of them are burnt. She'll just keep flipping them until they look done. This couldn't possibly go wrong.
When not grilling hockey pucks, the heiress can be found spread out on a blanket in the grass, eating a burger of her own. No one is going to look at her strange if she eats it with a knife and fork, right?
II.
It's only polite to help keep things tidy when it's not your place. Once everyone moves inside, Vera will be one of the people packing up the food and wiping down counters, stopping every once in a while to pour herself a drink. Nothing makes cleanup faster quite like vodka shots, right?
III.
Sitting on the patio, remote in hand, Vera grins as she starts setting off the fireworks. These are about as close to professional-grade as you can get, so there's no chance she's letting anyone near them to light up-close. The last thing she needs is one of her friends blowing themselves up because they light the wrong fuse. It's much easier to push a button and watch the show.
Once the show is over, Vera will be calling Ubers for anyone who wants to head home for the night, insistent that no one even think about driving tonight.
Even later, she can be found out in the yard laying on a blanket under the stars. In her hand is a solid gold vaporizer pen, which she puffs on every now and then. It would be incredibly rude to be doing this anywhere near Pen's house, so she doesn't plan on being there long. Still, it's a nice way to calm down after an otherwise crazy night.
Wildcard.
Vera running around trying to be a part of every little thing. Feel free to run into her wherever you'd like!

[Growing up with a single outdoorsy dad had lent well to learning the art of grilling. She's even (stolen) borrowed his apron for the occasion. It says "kiss the chef." (Please don't kiss the chef.) Her hair is pulled back in a practical ponytail. She is in her Element.
She's also really particular about burgers.]
How rare do you want it? Anything other than "well-done" I can do. [...] I'm joking.
...Mostly.
III.
[Sufficiently loosened up (but not all the way to the unfun type of drunk, Alison's sitting crosslegged on a blanket, waiting for the fireworks to start and making a game of cupping fireflies in her palms, only to let them flutter away not long after. What bugs are around don't seem to bother her — she's used to it.
She's quieter than she'd been inside, but she's loosened up enough to be amicable about a conversation. At least she's not wearing the apron now.]

[About halfway through the fireworks show, Arlene realizes something.
A couple things, actually. One is that she expected it to look weirder without blue and green. The silver that took their place is kind of pretty, though, especially paired off with gold. For once, she can't complain.
But the second and more important is that this is her chance. Her chance to shine. Thankfully, she's not so drunk as to try and pull anything until the grand finale, when she's pretty sure everything's been lit already.]
Hold this.
[Nothing good has ever come of those words, but she shoves her drink (actually nonalcoholic, at this point! Never Have I Ever was enough.) at somebody and steps forward.]
wildcard
[Prior to all this, she's mostly all over the place. Sunbathing, stealth-water balloon-attacking, and doing all in her power to avoid grill duty during the afternoon, then in the evening, joining in the party games.]

[Penelope isn't the most experienced grillmaster, but she's certainly not bad at it. The whole point of the back yard was for stuff like this as much as for exercise and a place to stretch out. She'll be standing up on the deck taking her turn with a few burger flips, an outdoor TV set up nearby in case people are interested in watching something. Right now she's just got it set on a music station, blaring a mix 80s Hits, Retro-80s style music, and a healthy dose of new wave ska on the side because that's what she had that wasn't going to mark her as the nerdiest person in the room.
Humming along, she flips a burger onto a plate.]
Okay! Who wants the next one? I've got a big one done, with cheese.
II. (This prompt is First Come First Served Only, please)
[It's pretty unusual for the mail to run this late at night, but when a package drops through the slot, Penelope hops up and groans.]
Okay. So...another package from Retrospec...
[Mumbling to herself, she heads outside for a moment with a quick excuse. This could be anything, but it's small...so hopefully not another weapon. Better safe than sorry though. If anyone wants to follow her out, they're more than welcome to do so, though.]
III
[The fireworks are pretty astounding, and Pen is more than happy to just stretch out on a deck chair and let everyone else ignite their inner pyromaniac. She's pleasantly buzzed, and even with the package, it's hard to ignore the feeling of comradery with the other people here. People she might not've given the time of day if it hadn't been for Retrospec. Maybe dumb sometimes, maybe up to no good sometimes, but friends. She'll lay like that a while. Till the fun starts.
Lemonade in hand, she grins as the display starts, her silent mood passing away and she sits up with a laugh.]
Oh wow! That was a big one!
