( CLOSED ) a stupid holiday
WHO: Marcell, Ichirou, and Yukine.
WHERE: Marcell & Ichirou's house.
WHEN: June 18th, evening.
WHAT: Happy father's day!!!!
WARNINGS: Maybe language? Also sap.
( while yukine might not be particularly good at remembering holidays, he's never once forgotten when father's day comes around. at first, of course, it was just something that he celebrated with his dad because that's all he had for several years. hell, he can barely remember what his mother even looked like at this point and if not for a few photos that have been kept around, he would have forgotten her face entirely. it wasn't all that long since his mom made it official that she was bailing on both his dad and him that marcell—his real second parent for all yukine's concerned—became a more regular part of his life.
marcell isn't his like his mom. he's reliable and always wants to be around both his dad and him. he taught him all kinds of things like how to cook or mend clothes or even how to dance (some of his favourite memories are dancing with his dadmom).
he's grateful.
the same way he's grateful to his dad, who has been a pillar of strength his entire life. it didn't matter how hard things got, his dad never seemed to waver and yukine has always wanted to do what he can to make it easier for him even though that mostly amounted to packing him a super simple lunch before his work shift started for the longest time. he couldn't just do nothing at all. not when his dad always made time for even when he was the sole provider for them. it's because of his dad that he knows how to fix all kinds of things, fish, ride a bike, and even how to fight (a little dirty, but you work with what you got).
yukine loves his dads.
every year, when this day comes around, yukine always tries his best for him. today that amounts to two hand written cards expressing his affection and wishing him a happy father's day, two wrapped presents, and a home-cooked meal for everyone to share. sure, it was just baked fish and rice, but it counts.
one less thing for them to do, right? )

I'm home.
I smell fish.
no subject
Welcome home—!
( it's not breaking in if he has a key. )
no subject
You finally used that key.
Is there a special occasion?
[He loses days sometimes when he does weird overnight shifts.]
no subject
( waving him closer to the kitchen. )
Come here, come here.
no subject
It isn't anyone's birthday, I don't think.
[He's putting his coat up, and removing his tie and vest.]
no subject
( a small laugh, but he's patiently waiting. )
It's not anyone's birthday though! I don't think we know anyone with a June birthday, Dad.
no subject
[He's probably half joking.]
Hmmm.
June, june, june... not Marcell and I's anniversary...
Hmm, you have to tell me when Marcell is here, at least!
no subject
( somewhat serious, but he snorted at his dad's remark anyway. )
I think you'll figure it before then. Unless your brain's already mush?
( waving a hand. )
You don't get to eat or the other thing until Mom gets here though! All of us gotta to be here for this.
no subject
But it must be really important, at any rate...
no subject
( clicking his tongue. )
Mushy mushy.
( . . . )
Oh, what if I said it's a holiday all three of us always celebrate together?
no subject
[Hmmmm.]
FFFather's day?
no subject
( very chipper and approaching ichirou to wrap his around him in a loose hug. )
Happy father's day, Dad!
no subject
[He says that ridiculous thing but he's blushing.]
no subject
I'm back --
[ Oh, Ichirou is back too! And since Yukine is hugging him, Marcell goes over to join in on the hug. ]
no subject
[Time for Ichirou to ABSORB BOTH YUKINE AND MARCELL with his arms.]
no subject
of course, his timing was impeccable and he comes in right during the sappiest moment possible. as soon as marcell is in reach, yukine adjusts to put an arm around him too to fully welcome both his parents into the hug. )
Welcome home! ☆

no subject
[Not that he's complaining.]
no subject
( simply enough. after all, CLEARLY this is all on his dad. lightly tapping them to signal that he wants to be let go. )
He needs a break or something!
no subject
Oh I'm completely fine.
no subject
[ They're both busy, after all. ]
no subject
no subject
( . . . )
So. . . I made fish?
no subject
We can't let our son's food get cold, right?
[He's gonna sit down, then?]
no subject
Hehe, of course we can't. Thank you, Yukine.
no subject
he only speaks once everything is in place, lingering at the edge of the table. )
Happy Father's Day. I was hoping after this we could sit around and watch a movie? Or something? Because it's been a little while since it was just the three of us and Iwokeupwithatattootheotherday so I brought over a couple DVDs and stuff?
no subject
What was that part you rushed through?
no subject
Did you say tattoo?
no subject
okay, wow. that didn't go as well as planned. they're both totally looking at him now. a wild impulse seizes him and encourages him to run, but he tries to push it down the best he can. still, he can feel the urge buzz under his skin. instead of doing anything crazy like that, he takes a deep breath. )
Uh.
( he says very eloquently. )
Something happened to me? Like. . . Uhm. Remember how I said I was remembering stuff?
( rubbing the back of his neck. )
I'm still doing that? Then, one day, I woke up and—
( he pulls at the collar of his shirt to display the bright red "yuki" character tattooed across his collarbone. )
This.
no subject
And then he gently, very gently, puts his hands on yukine's shoulders.]
Son.
Couldn't you have woken up with a cooler tattoo?
no subject
( sputtering. )
DAD!
( what's wrong with him. please, save him, mom. )
It wasn't even up to me!! I don't even want a tattoo period!
no subject
Ahh.
That's weird though.
I know some people have gotten different eye colors and stuff.
no subject
( especially since yukine has been panicking over it. it's probably for the better that his dad isn't too upset, but it's weird! too weird!
. . . but maybe he should have told them sooner if it was gonna be like this. )
Yeah, I know someone like that. He ended up with creepy super blue eyes? They're pretty jarring.
no subject
Like maybe If you lifted your shirt and you had a giant flaming skull on your belly we'd have to have a talk, but it's not like YOU did anything.
[He's relatively understanding. He still thinks this will all go away eventually, when they track down Retrospec, afterall.]
no subject
( as nice as it is that his dad is this understanding, yukine is totally unprepared for how to handle it. as such he makes a broken, choked up noise as he holds back the sudden tears that prick at the corners of his eyes. he had been so convinced that they were going to get mad or something.
immediately, he's wrapping his arms around his dad and burying his face against his chest. )
Thank you.
no subject
Come on.
You're my son. I'm not gonna flip my lid over this even if you got it yourself. Might have a talk with my sister, but..
no subject
Does anyone else know?
no subject
Yea.
( he knows he should have gone to them first, but he was a little afraid to. )
My friend Shouto and my a—other friend Yato.
no subject
[ ...I mean, not that he hadn't figured out that much after that scene at prom. ]
no subject
Yea. I used to hang out with him? He lived in our old town a few years back. He was pretty much my only actual friend back then.
( which is true. )
He's well meaning. He just sucks at . . . everything.
( not true, but that's how yukine feels about him lately. )
no subject
[ Getting drunk at the party you're chaperoning, really? ]
But does he treat you well?
no subject
( there's an obvious face.
and a suspicious pause. )
He's okay.
no subject
[ The suspicious pause doesn't leave a good impression. ]
no subject
He's trying. I dunno. He's just not good with people or social graces, but I do think he tries?
