The text went out Friday morning. JUST SIGNED CONTRACT FOR NEW APARTMENT! HOUSE WARMING TOMORROW NIGHT AT 7! [INSERT ADDRESS HERE]
Come Saturday night, there's a stack of pizzas and 2-liters of soda on Tatsuo's counter and ice cream in the freezer. As for the rest of his apartment... look, it's a huge improvement on his last place.
The entry opens into the living room where Tatsuo has a couch and coffee table. Rather than a table in the 'dining room' next to the kitchen, Tatsuo has set up his office. A desk for his laptop and two bookcases full of various books and science periodicals. There are two tall stools at the counter and though it's a galley style kitchen, it doesn't feel too cramped since there's just the high counter between it and the living room.
The door to the bedroom is opposite the entry and there's a double bed, a nightstand with lamp, and a small dresser. Take a quick right and there's the bathroom. Need more space? There's decent sized patio off the living room.
There is nothing by way of decorations, with the exception of a small framed picture of him and his mom sitting on his desk. Hey, his last place did catch fire after all.
A. SET-UP/ARRIVAL
Did you help him move in earlier in the day? Are you an early arrival or do you sneak in half past eight?
B. FOOD
There are two pepperoni pizzas, one cheese, one Hawaiian, and one supreme. No sneaking off with a tub of ice cream though. Especially not the mint chocolate chip in the back of the freezer. Or did you bring a bag of chips as your house warming present? It's perfectly valid.
C. MUSIC & MINGLE
Tatsuo has his phone hooked up a to a blue-tooth speaker and a selection of 80s classic rock and 90s pop songs are playing. Do you agree with his selection or do you take over with your phone? Maybe now is the time to discuss when country music officially jumped the shark with that guy over there. [occ: legit a conversation I briefly had with coworkers last night]
D. CLEAN UP
The party has wound down. Who's asleep on the couch and who is helping Tatsuo clean up?
no subject
Oh? Well that's no problem! Cooking really isn't as hard as people think it is, it just takes a little practice and someone to show you the ropes! I'd be happy to show you a few things sometime if you like, I love to cook~
no subject
That would be really helpful, thank you. I think I developed a bit of a complex toward it over the years. I can do all sorts of complex things with chemicals in the lab, but I can't cook worth anything.
no subject
The lab?
[See Fai, you're such a great friend you don't even know what he does for a living.]
no subject
[If he sounds a little sheepish, it's because he's just realized he doesn't know what Fai does.]
no subject
Wow, you're a real CSI? That... is so cool!
[He doesn't follow any of the iterations of the show, exactly, but he's seen a few episodes and he understands the pop culture significance.]
A CSI plus teaching at the dojo? No wonder you haven't had any time to learn how to cook!
no subject
[Nor is it as exciting as they make it out on TV, but that's honestly for the best? TV crime shows are much too edge of your seat for every day life.
And they always leave out the reams of paperwork involved.]
I guess I do like to keep pretty busy.
no subject
We can work on teaching you some cooking, but you're definitely going to have to go grocery shopping first. Hm. What kinds of things do you like to eat? We can figure out what you're going to need from the store!
no subject
[Tatsuo chuckles bashfully.]
I'll each most anything really. Though I suppose lean toward what I ate growing up? Spaghetti. Tacos. Pizza. Mac n' cheese.
[listing off the things he was fed at the orphanage b/c it was cheap and easy to make in bulk]
no subject
[He listens quietly at Tatsuo lists off foods, then literally facepalms for a second before grinning again.]
Okay. How about I teach you how to make the adult versions of those, so you'll have something nice to make for when you bring a date over~
[He's obviously teasing on the last part. He even reaches over to elbow Tatsuo a little, just for good measure. But hey, at least it's friendly teasing.]
no subject
Hah, I'd have to find a date first. I haven't been on a date since... college. Though you do have a point, homemade dinners are very impressive.
no subject
[Seriously Fai's friends are almost all babies, how is this even his life.]
They are! And either girls will be super impressed that you can cook, or guys will just love a good meal, whichever way suits you! [He thinks for a moment, pressing his lips together] Tell you what, I'll text you a shopping list for when you go to the store next, and when you're ready you can let me know and we can figure out a time for a lesson?
no subject
[Don't feel bad Fai. Tatsuo still gets carded by extremely suspicious bartenders all the time. Which is why he usually just drops by Majima's club...
He nods at Fai's shopping list suggestion.]
Alright, that sounds like a good plan.

[he grins at the comment about having friends their own age]
But I've been feeling the same way myself. So many of my friends are younger than me. Not that it's a bad thing...
no subject
[He's teasing--but then again that should be pretty obvious by now. Fai teases all the people he likes.]
No, it's not a bad thing! But talking to someone and then realizing they're a decade younger than you are... it just makes you feel old, don't you think? Especially when so many of them are so accomplished. Kind of makes me wonder what I've been doing with my life!
/sob/ Fai, I feel you so much
I think it's really impressive you're going to have three degrees. You're not settling on what's easy or convenient.
I know right ;~;
Ah, you sound so wise! Now we definitely have to be friends, maybe some of that will rub off on me! But it's really not that impressive, trust me. I wasted a lot of time before getting to where I am now.
Re: I know right ;~;
[To be frank, the moment all of the words escaped his mouth, he started feeling a little preachy, so Fai grinning and laughing in response was a relief.]
I'm not that wise...
[otherwise he wouldn't have been living in an apartment that was a fire hazard :|]
But I'm all for being friends.
