WHO: Ardyn Izunia, Grell Sutcliffe & Prompto Argentum
WHERE: Tribunal Terrace
WHEN: 6/7
WHAT: Ardyn and Grell run into Prompto and his pupper.
WARNINGS: None!
[When their schedules allow for it, Ardyn sometimes (though with subtly growing frequency) meets with Grell once she’s free from work. There are days when they’ll wander off to find someplace to sit and chat, or to otherwise find an idle form of passing entertainment in the meanwhile. And sometimes, like today, they’ll just walk, enjoying the fresh air and sights all around them, conversing about everything and nothing all at once.
Such is what’s happening now, strolling down a path that edges along the perimeter of a park. Ardyn reaches up to adjust the hat on his head (yes, he has the hat today; sorry, Grell), and continues the line of conversation as he does so.
(In the distance, there’s a figure that he would recognize approaching, but neither of them have the fortune of noticing just yet.)]
—it’s that or a parasol. [He says jokingly. Apparently, yes, they were talking about the function of his hat and the travesty that he feels so inclined to wear it. It’s nice weather today, but it’s also exceedingly bright and sunny. Thus, the hat to shield his eyes.] Take your pick; one or the other, Grell.

[making fun of the hat is routine. any of the barbs she fling at it lack true venom, and it has the feel of an old back and forth that will never end up with a different outcome. teasing for the sake of it, really.
she's happy to meet with Ardyn after work - it gives her something to look forward to on those days, and no matter what happens it's time well spent with excellent company, in her opinion. picking up whatever topic, putting their spin on it, letting the conversations end up in the strangest places. the weather being good is a bonus - a sad downside of working where she did was the absence of any windows, and so this is time also to take in sunshine. she's not blocking herself with some ridiculous hat or parasol, she'd prefer to have the light on her.
someone is coming - two someones, as it turns out - but she would recognize neither of them. might as well fix that.]

[he's so sorry to interrupt this very interesting talk about fashion disasters, but consider that in his excitement he bit down on the pop and is now trying to speak while biting down on ice and waving the remnants around in his hand]
Hey, Pwofessah!
[says the young adult in sweaty clothes, probably a bit smelly, accompanied by an excited rufus who is pleased to see ardyn, too!]
no subject
Hello, Prompto. [-he returns the greeting, and to the pup, the latter of which is just as familiar to Ardyn has the boy himself.] And Rufus.
[lord the boy looks sweaty]
Enjoying the blistering heat? [As if by habit alone, Ardyn reaches up to adjust the hat on his head again. He's exaggerating -- it's warm, but not blistering. Though it might as well be, if someone wishes to run around in it.]
there are no rules in tagging
[he replies, smugly, going back to his ice pop. but there's no bite in prompto's remark, as usual, as instead he's having a playful reconsideration of what's actually going on here.]
[(prompto's an active kid. if he isn't working, he's moving around from place to place, doing something. that much should be known by now.)]
Vitamin D's good for ya.
[a twinkle in his silver orbs (no longer cerulean...), and prompto's grinning]
S'rry for interrupting.
[mostly... to grell. :9]
no subject
[she shrugs the idea of needing to be sorry off, and smiles at both boy and dog. friends, certainly, but where has she heard a name like Prompto before...eh, it'll come to her.]
And it'd be less blistering of heat if someone thought about dressing for the weather. But then you'd need to find new things to lament over on days like this. [beat.] No, you would anyway, what am I saying.
[because she knows him, and she knows herself, and people like them can always find things to lament over in the most dramatic of ways.]
Anyway - Prompto, was it? And Rufus.
[because we don't forget the dog! who is the most innocent party in this scenario.]
no subject
I really have no words for Ardyn's choice in clothing most days.
[a teasing jab]
[but he proceeds to introduce himself, because he knows good manners]
Prompto Argentum! Nice to meet you--and yeah, this is Rufus. We just finished our daily run. I need to really push him so he gets tired.
no subject
[and for as fun as bonding through dissing Ardyn's clothing is, she can only be so teasing at a time. it's his choice if he wants to overheat. (the fact that she will shove a water bottle at him and tell him to stay hydrated still remains.)]
I'm Grell Sutcliffe, but just call me Grell. Pleasure to meet you both.
no subject
[prompto offers a bit of a bow, dramatic as it may be, but this only means that rufus does, too, lean over his front paws and bows in tandem. just a fancy little trick from your resident sunshine boy]
You guys out for a stroll, or heading somewhere?
no subject
Yes, yes, poke fun at the hat and the Too Many Layers. Ardyn's heard it a thousand times before and will hear it a hundred more before the month's through. But as always, he's unaffected. Even more so because it's Prompto and Grell, and so the thread of humor doesn't escape him, even if it is at his own expense.
So, he chuckles.]
Well -- ignoring all the attacks on my wardrobe -- yes, we're just out for a stroll. No particular place to go.
[Did you catch that Chuck Berry reference, Prompto; always checking ur hipster music knowledge]
no subject
as long as Ardyn knows it's humor, then it's fine. neither of them actually think anything they'll say would ever truly change him - if that involves him wrapping himself up like it's a winter evening when it's June, well...]
The attacks would cease if you chose to not bake yourself during summer. But what do I know, hm? The sun is still your enemy who will fry you with his rays.
[oh, but Prompto asked a question, and Grell nods to confirm what Ardyn said.]
We're enjoying the weather and free time, really. It'd be a shame to let it be wasted.
no subject
What can I say? I'm a fragile creature, withering under the sun.
[let him live, let him have his layers]
no subject
[he finishes his ice cream with one last bite, chewing onto the stick]
Cruisin' and playin', then.
[prompto and ardyn are having one of they're conversations outside a conversation, sorry about that.]
Do you need a recommendation on where to go? There's a nice place with a veranda overlooking a fountain. Picture perfect for this kinda weather!
no subject
But in any case, it sounds like Prompto is suggesting that they take the scenic route. Ardyn has no qualms against this.]
Sitting in the shade under a veranda does sound very tempting. [A glance at Grell.] What do you think?
no subject
[not that ardyn needs a wingman, but.]
no subject
I think if I said no, I would regret it. Do you know how to get there?
no subject
[he just delivers food all over the place, nothing shady about it]
It's down this way...
[stepping between them, he begins walking down the street, towards the crossing. he pulls out his phone.]
And since it's such a picture perfect area, I can take pictures for you guys, too!
no subject
[is he serious. he can't be serious. she needs to check her hair or something, make sure she looks fine if he's going to take a picture. she didn't prepare for this, even as they can follow along.]
no subject
Prompto's something of a talented photographer. You'll find he never passes up a photo op. Even if the weather wasn't quite as perfect as today.
no subject
[soon as they approach an area with a lot more people, prompto seems to remember he has a dog with him]
[turns around on his feet a couple of times, unwrapping the leash from around his waist (like it was a belt??), and finally buckling it onto rufus' collar]
[you guys are having a good stroll, yes?]
no subject
Never? Have you know each other long then?
no subject
Ardyn doesn't notice the selfie, but he's not self-conscious enough to care even if he did. Instead, he seems more amused at Prompto unravelling himself from Rufus' leash as he speaks.]
For an entire semester, and then some. [Yes, maybe not deserving of the use of the word "never", but since when has Ardyn been one to not over-exaggerate.] He sits in my class sometimes, just to listen to my lectures.
[As he speaks, though, he's giving Grell a wayward glance. She may be covertly trying to fix her hair, but Ardyn notices. Keep doing it and he'll place his hat on her head and distract her from it completely...]
no subject
His lectures are fun! Ardyn has a way of talking, you just wanna hear him for hours and hours, it doesn't get boring.
[he's trying to hint at something here, hoping to find some sort of social cue...]
Unless he's talking about financials and legality. That's boring no matter what.
no subject
but that doesn't mean she's not listening to the two of them. there's something in Prompto's honesty that means she ends up nodding - not about the financials, though.]
Lectures are all well and good, and I've no doubt captivating when you hear a man speak on a subject he's both educated and passionate about. But there's equal fun to be found in discussion and conversation, at least I've found. Enough to keep you occupied for those hours and hours...or maybe I just get carried away, and he's kind enough to humor me. That ever happen to you, Prompto?
no subject
[he hums, then grins at ardyn. despite his quote unquote shit talking, it is clear that there is nothing but fondness in grell and prompto's exchange. he proceeds to walk backwards, rufus a bit confused.]
I don't mind hearing him talk. He puts up a lot with me in any case.
no subject
His smile widens, self-satisfied. No big deal, he just continues as normal.]
I wouldn't say you're all that difficult to "put up with", Prompto.
[A shrug as he walks.]
Lectures are no good without a big of flourish behind them. I need to keep the attentions of my students somehow, after all. Already are too many prone to taking a nap during class.
no subject
Hey!
[-she's not taking it off. not yet. he'll have to wait to get it back, and maybe ask for it gracefully. (she's not going to make him sink to complete dramatics in front of his friend, because no one deserves the both of them operating on the next level of dramatics in public.)]
This is why you're the professor. I'd have too much mercy, remembering the trials of attending a lecture when you've been on too little sleep for the past eight weeks and knowing homework cares not for the concerns of mortals.
[there's a remark to be made here about the icy heart of the law already something to be endured, but she's already turned her attention over to Prompto, and Rufus' concerned expression.]
If putting up with you is anything like our meeting, then it can't be less than enjoyable. Call it the unbiased view of a relative stranger.
no subject
[it does seem the two of them are used to this kind of banter, pleasant and coy in many ways.]
[aspiring, in general, to capture these moments of fondness between people, he raises his phone and snaps a couple of shots of the couple (not quite realising they are a couple). his phone is down before grell locks eyes with him again.]
[and her words make him smile, even though he's flushing]
Thank you. I've enjoyed meeting you too! As-- as has Rufus.
[the dog barks, once]
no subject
He chuckles, unaware of having said anything that might make Prompto falter. Heaven knows that Ardyn wouldn't ever mean to do so.]
You cannot be merciful if you're a professor. [Which is not at all true, but for the sake of amusing conversation, he plays along.] One must possess a heart of ice, and their soul must be dark and twisted. And their humanity, completely evaporated into nothingness.
[So dramatic.]
I hope you're making us look flattering in those pictures, Prompto. [Yes, that last time he did notice the candid shots.]
no subject
No wonder you're so averse to the sun, Ardyn. You fear your heart melting away in its rays. [though she can think of a few professors who she'd say had questionable humanity...] Will we be able to see these pictures once you're done? Just curious.
no subject
Of course! And I'll print out the ones you prefer the best so you can keep them. Not to brag, but I'm kind of really good at this photography stuff.
[he looks over at ardyn as if expecting some support for his statement, but then stops by a traffic light]
[he points out, straight ahead]
The place's just crossing the street.
