WHO: these guys
WHERE: laser tag arcade area
WHEN: backdated to wednesday 5/17, early evening
WHAT: time to see which one is the ultimate team at laser tagging
WARNINGS: TBD
A. CHECK-IN
[let's not kid ourselves: you're here because prompto mentioned it to you and bothered you incessantly until you accepted coming. if that's not the case, someone probably told you and you amicably agreed--because why not?]
[or, perhaps, they were short a few team members (or needed a few more people to help foot the bill) and snatched you straight up from the streets into joining their little game of laser tag.]
[either way, you're here now, and waiting for the group before you to finish their match. it's exciting and you're all trying to figure out the best way possible to divide into teams. maybe you're just assessing the situation and not really mingling? the food and drinks being sold on the side seem interesting. maybe there's a cute girl or guy in the group worth trying to impress... in any case, all's fair once they're inside the laser tag labyrinth.]
[soon enough, the teams will be called out, and each team member will be asked to sport either red or blue lit vests, being awarded a plastic (yet slightly heavy) laser gun.]
B. TEAM BLUE
[the TEAM BLUE screen reads the following names: 1) nisha, 2) penelope, 3) duo, 4) chloe, 5) alison, 6) prompto, 7) dante, 8) sora.]
[escorted to a smaller room for the team, now's the time to formulate a plan. there's five rounds to go; if the blue team can win three, they've won the match. time to strategise and work out any weaknesses the other team may have.]
C. TEAM RED
[the TEAM RED screen reads the following names: 1) arlene, 2) aria, 3) vera, 4) tatsuma, 5) tatsuo, 6) lucy, 7) noah.]
[escorted to a smaller room for the team, now's the time to formulate a plan. there's five rounds to go; if the red team can win three, they've won the match. despite being short one team member as opposed to team blue, that's not really any reason for them to have the advantage! time to strategise and work out any weaknesses the other team may have.]
D. IN THE FRAY
[the is dark but full of colour, with walls and hiding spots. each team will enter the arena from different ends of the map; it's a matter of figuring out who gets to who first, and who takes advantage of their surroundings best.]
[via the magic of RNG, the winners of each match will be as follows:
FIRST MATCH: red team wins!
SECOND MATCH: blue team wins!
THIRD MATCH: red team wins!
FOURTH MATCH: blue team wins!
FIFTH MATCH: blue team wins!
SIXTH MATCH: red team wins!
and so it seems we've come to a draw.]
[via magic of coin flipper generator, heads being red and tails being blue... the blue team wins the tie breaker match! by the skin of their teeth.]
[at least there were no lives nor money at stake (unless there was, glances at dante)]
E. INTERLUDE
[your team's ass got kicked! or, perhaps your team did the ass kicking.]
[take three minutes to sit with your team in their respective rooms and either congratulate each other, further strategise, or blame someone for your loss.]
F. GG GUYS
[the time to head home is approaching; it's late, the establishment is closing. perhaps you'll stick around to go grab some pizza or burgers on the way home, with everyone or with some specific individuals? in any case, it was a fun match! definitely something worth doing again some other time.]
(ooc: sorry for the delay! life got incredibly busy the past couple of days and i'm fighting a flighty internet connection)

[Noah really wasn't someone who was into team sports (ie, he's never actually played a team sport), nor did he really know anything about laser tag. But he was fond of Prompto, and he was also fond of the idea of shooting Dante when he heard he was coming along, so he signed right up.
When they get to the arcade, Noah seems less than interested with socializing. He seems much more interested in looking at all the food they have to offer at the concession stand. He's got some weird metal creature riding on his shoulder, and for whatever reason he seems to be wearing long sleeves and gloves- but neither seems to catch any notice by the staff of the arcade. ]
[C - Oh sure, put the red armed on team red]
[Noah doesn't really know the strategies of laser tag, or even who most of his team is, so during their planning session he's just sitting on a chair, examining his gun and how best to shoot it. Curiously that creature is still with him.]
[D - It's not cheating if there's no rules about it]
[Surprisingly, despite Noah's lack of experience or use of one arm? He's actually a tougher opponent than you'd imagine in the fray. Years of experience has given him good night vision and the ability to walk very quietly. He moves fast and got no issue climbing into any hiding spot he can find thanks to his smaller build.
But it wouldn't be Noah without some trick up his sleeve. Sometimes, you may catch the sight of movement in the corner of your eye as something moves past. Or you might hear the sound of someone talking or footsteps from around the corner. Following it? Will lead you on a short chase before you end up face to face with...that golem creature, apparently alone and wandering the field.
You have about two seconds to remember that scene in Jurassic Park to predict what will happen next]
C
Sorry, what is that? Miniature robot?
[He hasn't seen it fly yet. Watch his mind get blown by that.

At the last corner, Lucy waited. And waited, and waited, and ankle please cooperate—
When she turned the corner explosively, there wasn't a person at all on the other side.]
...what?
[Unfortunately she's not as up to date on movies as she should be. Lucy just stood there like a giant target for a moment, blinking.]

Where that thing is, Noah's got to be nearby, so maybe she can get a shot at him. Arlene darts out of her cover, running for the tunnel entrance, and ahead of her the little robot flaps along until it comes out the other end.
She hesitates, leaning just out the tunnel mouth for a better look. Shooting at it won't do anything, but she raises her gun and let's off a single shot anyway. Just to see what happens.]

[Sora's practically bouncing up and down in his seat, excited about the upcoming game. When Prompto asked if he wanted to join, he jumped in without thinking, but now that he was thinking about it, he'd never played laser tag before. Heck, he'd barely ever held a gun before, even if it was fake.
He'd seen this stuff on TV before, of course, but it's different to be actually playing a game. Mostly, he hopes he doesn't let his team down.
While waiting, he spends a few quarters on a few of the arcade machines around. He's decent at some, like the basketball game, but he's terrible at others, like the fighting games. If he sees you watching, he'll stop playing and smile.]
Hey! Isn't this place cool?
B. They need a better team name than just 'Blue Team'
[Looking around the small room as people pull on their gear, Sora realizes he only really knows two other people on his team; Prompto and Dante.
Seems to him like it's time to foster some team spirit.]
Hey, guys. What d'you think our team name should be?
D. Sora's more of a melee kind of guy
[Sadly, Sora seems like he's getting hit more often than he hits other people. At first, his aim is quite terrible, and honestly he's pretty sure that that first loss is his fault. Oops.
However, as time goes on, it seems like he's getting better and better, or at least not sucking quite as hard. By the end, he's at least hitting the other team pretty often. Given more time, he could probably get pretty good at this!]
F. lmao
[They won! The blue team is the winner, and Sora's super hyped that his first time playing laser tag was such a success. As they begin taking off their gear, he'll happily congratulate anyone who comes up to him.
Walking out is a different story, however, as it seems like Sora has finally run out of his boundless energy. Walking towards the doors with everyone else, he's beginning to yawn. He'll try to hide it, but he's pretty exhausted, and he has school the next day. It's likely he'll be excusing himself as soon as possible, but he'll absolutely stay behind if someone moves over to talk to him.]

OTA!
[As usual, Tatsuma's being rather quiet, but...
Today he actually looks kind of glum? And distracted, no less. Anyone who's checked Retrospec a bit earlier today may (correctly) deduce that the whole zombie memory has him feeling a bit down...]
[C]
[That said, far be it from him to bring the whole mood down. Once they're divided into teams, he begins putting on the vest and collecting his weapon in a curious way that basically broadcasts "First Time Laser Tagger."]
How do you aim...?
[D]
[A dark hood up, he braces his back against one of the walls, gun at the ready for the first sign of someone's approach. The music is loud and booming, but despite that, he does his best to listen carefully for any unexpected footsteps, looking for any moving light that shouldn't be...
It sure would be a shame if someone else has spotted him sitting around, waiting to be sniped.]
[F]
[He's in a far better mood by the end of it all, a small grin actually visible on his face again as they finally step out.]
That was a good game. The lights made it tough...
C
See the end of the barrel here? There's a little piece that sticks up. Look down the barrel toward that sight as you aim. But you'll have to be quick or they might shoot you first while you're aiming.

[He's one of the oldest people here, isn't he? All the same... he couldn't turn down Prompto's invitation. Laser tag sounds like fun and he doesn't teach class on Wednesday night, so he's free. Why not go running around a dimly lit room pointing lasers at other people?
He glances around the group of people assembled, most of whom he does not recognize. Well, by the end of this he'll at least know their names. Might as well start learning them now. He looks at the person standing nearest to him.]
Have you ever done this before?
[ D ]
[It took him a few rounds, but Tatsuo is starting to get the hang of this. The extent of his gun experience to this point has been conducting ballistics tests in the lab, which requires neither shooting skills or accuracy. But while accuracy is relatively important in laser tag, Tatsuo is finding that a nice solid strategy is even more useful.
By the end of the second round, he's built a mental map of the room. By the end of the third, he's located the blind spots and hiding places. He has good reflexes and sharp eyes, which make him a little harder to sneak up on. Harder, but not impossible. Mostly because he keeps forgetting about the targets on each shoulder.]

[prompto's easy going, and as a guy living to that reputation, he smacks a friendly hand flat on tatsuo's back in form of greeting.]
Didn't think many people would take the invitation seriously...
[you could say he is mighty pleased with the amount of people that have, so far, arrived. it'll only make playing a lot more fun with this amount of people.]
Not my first rodeo in this realm. I got a bit of a reputation [wiggles eyebrows] when it comes to laser tag.

[Lucy wasn't exactly one for group activities normally. But her ankle wasn't hurting terribly much today through its brace, she'd had an awful day at work, and she recognized at least some of the names in attendance.
So Lucy supposed she'd creep in, like someone debatably on the list wandering into a party.
The party just included guns.
First, though, she was going to get some water.
...shit, she was short some change. Why did laundry machines have to eat so many coins? She turned to the person nearest to her at the concession stand.]
Do you have a quarter?
D. Please no teamkilling
[Lucy was very good at hiding, especially when she didn't have to worry about her hair giving her away. It practically blended right in to the rest of the colors on the walls and the red lights on her vest. She was less good at being a team player, and with her injured ankle she needed to sit and rest fairly often. Plenty of time to sit and listen for the sound of approaching footsteps.
When they got close enough, Lucy uncurled from the wall and spun around the corner, gun raised.]
Boo.
[Are you someone she's supposed to be pointing her gun at, or a hapless teammate she just gave a heart attack?]
D
Chloe blinked and looked down before she giggled, even if her heart was beating a little faster than before.]

Chloe was enjoying this. She was finally getting into this game a lot more, and that fact was kind of nice, since it felt like she'd finally found something better to do with all of those skills than actually throwing knives.
She stalked through the course, moving as stealthy as possible, her black shirt and dark pants blending in well. Her aim was much more confident and she seemed to just be enjoying a little bit of competition. Admittedly, she was starting to get a bit more competitive these days, trying to show off here and there. She never got mad during the lost rounds, but there was definitely a sense of determination as she tried to do the absolute best each time.
E)
Between rounds, it was easier to calm and relax. She was building up a light sweat the more into the night she got and she grinned openly, waving to anyone who wanted to come over, a water bottle in hand. Red or blue, she'd happily speak with anyone, caring little about team designations. It was just a game, after all, right?
F)
At the end of the game, she finally settled down for some pizza. The last offers weren't the best, but playing on a full stomach was never fun. With her food in hand, she lingered a little, making sure if anyone needed someone to walk back with. It was, after all, a little late and not everyone might have rides. For those, she'd be happy to go back to the bus stop on foot with.
Or perhaps someone wanted to give her a ride?

[prompto's the first to arrive (ironically...) at the laser tag arena, having made the reservation initially. he puts down the payment and waits for his friends and acquaintances to arrive.]
[he's excited; he cherishes any opportunity he gets to hang out with the people he cares for.]
[you may find him looking out by the entrance of the place, or trying to fit the bag and helmet he brought into a locker he's renting out.]
[alternatively, he's also sort of looking forward to seeing alison. he's a total fool harbouring a puppy crush, and he just wants to show her just how cool he can be.]
B FOR BLUE
Alright.
[he finishes strapping on his protective wear, the velcro making a satisfying sound after he pulls at it and then places it down again. he's passing around the laser guns they'll be using; they already glow blue.]
It's pretty cramped in there, but I think the best strategy would be to go in pairs. Watch each other's back kinda thing. We got them over by one, but they got really sneaky bastards on their end.
[see: noah. see also: tatsuma]
[easily, he places his gun against his chest. broadens over with a grin.]
Who wants to pair up with me?
D. STAND YOUR GROUND
[three on three]
[this was the tie-breaker]
[prompto held onto the laser gun, tight on his hands and raised up on his collar, breathing in and out as he sneaked through the hallways of the dark arena with an ease that comes to those who have played six matches already.]
[even if this was just a game, he would do his best not to let him team down.]

[She hasn't been to an arcade since she was what, fifteen? But all work and no play made a dull person out of anyone, and for all that she enjoys her job, it's too easy to slip into that weird state of mind that she gets in where she realizes she hasn't seen people in days.
So, laser tag it was. And Prompto seemed like a nice enough guy. It was sweet of him to invite her.
She's one of the last to arrive, lagging a little, breaking into a light jog when she sees the crowd. Her hair has been pulled back into a ponytail; she's wearing jogging pants and a tanktop. Definite running around like a goofball attire.]
Sorry if I'm late. [A pause. Then, a try at a joke.] I hope I'm not on red. [She tugs at a lock of fire-red hair that's come loose from her ponytail.] It'll totally clash.
[Is this athletic looking motherfucker a huge awkward nerd? YOU BET.]
B. WARBOARD
I say we divide and conquer. They're already outnumbered.
[Someone's given her a blue bandanna. It's tied around her neck. She looks like some kind of ridiculous combat aerobics teacher, but that's fine. Go team, etc.
Alison is getting a little competitive. It's tiebreaker time now, and she'd gone from thinking this was an amusing waste of time to being in it to win it.] If we split them off and confuse them, that'll be a good enough strategy to get the upper hand.
D. SNEAK
[For someone who claimed to have never played a game of laser tag in her life, she's caught on fast. She's...well, sneaky's an unfair word. But she's strategic. A lot of her method in the dark, rave-esque surroundings of the laser tag arena revolve around stealth and subterfuge. She uses the high walls to her advantage, sneaks up on people from behind. Moves quietly and quickly.
One tried and true method she's been using: upon catching sight of a red team member around a corner, she'll whistle to catch their attention. But there's no one there when they look until it's too late. 2spooky.
Unless they don't fall for it. She's
sneakystealthy, but she's not infallible. Getting the drop on her is entirely possible too.]F. EYE OF THE TIGER IN THE DISTANCE
[Who knew that would work up a sweat? Alison's pink-cheeked and energized afterwards, the bandanna from before now tied around one of her arms instead. She looks to be in good spirits, and although she isn't much of a socializer, winning's got her in a good enough mood to actually stick around.
She really likes winning!
She's not a jerk about it, though. Whoever passes her by that looks especially ragged, she'll toss them a bottle of water and a:]
Good game. I had fun.
[That, or she'll offer you a ride home in her gently-used Prius with like, a bunch of pop culture bumper stickers. Or just goof around. Anything goes.]
