The Springtime Fair Event!

WHO: Everyone!
WHERE: Recolle Square
WHEN: May 20-21
WHAT: The Springtime Fair!
WARNINGS: None, but PM if this needs to change

Springtime Fair Begins! The Booths and Rides! (May 20-21)

As Spring continues blossoming around the city, Recolle Square becomes very crowded for some reason; that reason being the annual Springtime Fair!

As most of the residents enter Recolle Square, they notice many kinds of booths and rides scattered around the park as volunteers and booth owners set up to start the fair. And since the theme for this year is the American Style Cultural Festival, they see many classic rides such as the Tilt-A-Whirl, Merry-Go-Around (with Chocobos instead of horses, obviously), the Ferris Wheel, and much more. Not to mention the carnival games and delicious food lined up in most of the booths as well with booths like "Yamazaki's Paris" and "Satellite's Pizza"!

With all of the booths and rides that the fair has to offer, you have a feeling you will have a great time that Spring has to offer in it's remaining time this year!

The Silent Auction (May 20/Morning)

Due to the Recolle Zoo and Aquarium's Endangered Animal Preservation sponsoring this year's fair, they have a plethora of auctions to you to bid on.

One of the auctions is a silent auction being held on one of the stages in the venue where you can bid on blind gift baskets. The contents of the gift baskets is a mystery, but the announcer did explain what you can get such as a month supply of donuts, some cute plush toys, anything you can think of from the sponsors! However, there is a chance you may get something you actually don't need, so if this happens, feel free to give it to someone who does need it, e.g. when you get a week supply of cat food when you're actually a dog person.

You may be tempted to peek in some of the gift baskets backstage, but where's the fun in that? Don't try to peek if you're not one of the volunteers and organizers or security will kick you out.

The Service Auction (May 20/Afternoon)

At 3:00 PM after the silent auction, most of the residents as well business owners and employees gather in front of the stage as the Service Auction is about to start. Once it does, you see that the tables used for the gift baskets are cleared as the announcer declared the Service Auction as well explaining the rules regarding the bids and the fees are given for their services. If you notice the whiteboard before you take your seat, you can see the list of participants available to bid as well the services they will offer as well the order of their appearance to bid on.

>> Dr. Arataka Reigen (Service: A free homeopathic consultation!)
>> Chloe Bouchard (Service: Yard Work/Gardening, professional level)
>> Rin Matsuoka (Service: One-man Personal Training Bootcamp!!! Get Fit Get Swole 100% On the Grind Etc. Also swimming lessons.)
>> Donald Maxwell (Service: Handyman and delivery services)
>> Terra Mason (Service: Hard, manual labor such as moving your furniture, paint your second-floor bathroom, basically anything! He can also teach you about the civil war, or make you somewhat fancy alcoholic beverages.)
>> Nui (Nadine) Harime (Service: Wardrobe consultation, custom tailoring to make your clothes actually look good on you, and/or sewing for one one-of-a-kind spring fashion item.)
>> Eleanor Lamb (Service: Handyman! Fix your gate, your lawnmower, appliances, electrical junk. Eleanor's good at putting stuff back together. Or...taking it apart, if that's your flavor.)
>> Penelope Raban (Service: Photoshop, Computer Repair, Debugging, or writing a simple program/phone app/etc.)

Judging by the services they offer, you can tell how either useful they be and/or how much fun you will have with them. Just make sure you watch your budget during the auction. Otherwise, you might not able to afford their fees!

Regardless, some of the proceedings (with special conditions from some of the participants) will go to Recolle Zoo and Aquarium's Endangered Animal Preservation, so at least you’d give some help to the cause.

[NOTES: To all of the participants listed above, you are free to decide on the fees as well as who won the bid on your character on your service auction prompts!

To everyone else, don't be afraid to make your top levels about how your character is watching the auction. But if you want your character to bid on your intended participant, make sure you go to their top levels as soon they are posted to bid one of them!]

The Pet Show Preparations (May 21/Noon)

The next day, the stage has been redecorated with bone banners around at the top of it along with some bones and ball props placed around the stage for this year's Pet Show. Not only that, a huge mat has been spread in front of the stage along with a obstacle course for all of the participating small and big pets alike while the audience can watch the events in front of them behind the rope line with several seats lined up for some guests who don't like to stand up all day while watching the show.

If you signed up for the Pet Show, you will spend time in the backstage area before the show, as you not only try to groom your pet for the cameras and the judges outside but try to calm them down before the big event begins. Thankfully, you are allowed to bring anyone with you to help you prepare your little (or big) star, from acquaintances to friends to siblings to other family members.

Let the Pet Show Begin!(May 21/Afternoon)

Once it hits 3:00 PM, the announcer then declares in a showman-like manner, "Welcome one and all to our annual Springtime Pet Show!"

As the show begins, the audience cheers in excitement over seeing some cute and cool pets walking down the obstacle course while the three judges wait to watch and decide on which cat, dog, or another animal will win this year.

Of course, as you are called into the field with your furry friend, you will try to help them out in two rounds. For the first round, you will not only have the chance to show off your pet but to also have them show off their talents or any tricks they learned. For the second round, it's just a standard agility round with the only rule is to pass through the obstacle course as fast they can. However, some parts of the course, such as the tunnel and the teeter board, turn out to be defective for some reason, but that's nothing that your pet can handle, right?

The Mishaps (May 21/During the Pet Show)

Of course, just when you think this pet show will go smoothly, you turn out to be wrong. That because just as the talent portion of the pet show starts, you witness some of the Chocobos run the obstacle course and start wreaking havoc such as pecking on some of the participants and guests' heads, running around the field aimlessly, and of course, causing some of their pets to panic and run away.

As the organizers and volunteers are left shocked and confused by this turn of events, one of the volunteers steps up and explained everything, revealing that the Chocobos were supposed to be for the petting zoo for today's event, but one kid got a little too curious with them and accidentally released them from captivity.

Whatever the case, your only two options are to either run away from the Chocobos or help out the volunteers and organizers round them up before most of the stage and booths are destroyed.

Pet Show Winners (After the Mishaps)

After the chaos has been dealt with, the MC returns to the stage unscathed from any animal hijinks. He is still shaken up by those Chocobos, but the show must go on.

With that, he then opens the envelopes that one of the volunteers gave him and reads it before turning his attention to the audience in order to declare which pet managed to impress the judges and the audience enough to win.

"Now then, third place goes to Zaveid Taleb's tuxedo cat, Fred, second place goes to Hitori Togusa and his white miniature schnauzer, Daisuke!

And now for the first place and winner of this year's Pet Show is..."

With a long drumroll that one of the volunteers is doing (How did he get those drums into the stage in 5 minutes anyway?!), the MC then opens the last envelope and reads the contents.

"Mohammed Hefaz with his budgie, Whitney!"

Once the winners are declared, the audience cheered in excitement for the winners while some of them are a little disappointed that their favorites lost.

As for the participants, they were either are happy or disappointed with the results or cheered their pets up. Still, there's always next year!

[NOTES: Just a reminder of the pet show prizes in case you didn't read the replies:

1st Place: $200 gift card to The Towers, $100 gift card to a known pet food brand, and two tickets to Recolle Zoo and Aquarium
2nd Place: $50 gift card to a known pet food brand, 3 new cat or dog toys
3rd Place: 10% discount to selected pizzas from Satellite's Pizza or Yamazaki's Paris.]

Aftermath (May 21/Evening)

Well, other than a little Chocobo mess back there, this year's Springtime Fair ended off with a bang. With most of the guests start to reflect yesterday and today's events, most of them help out the organizers, volunteers, and booth owners on cleaning and packing up everything.

But despite the chaos that has happened earlier, the organizers and volunteers are happy to hear that raised quite a lot of money for the Animal Preservation Program from the auctions and some of the booths, which can be a happy ending to this crazy weekend.

But no matter how you experienced the fair, at least you have fun, right?

With that, thank you for coming and we'll hope to see you in the next Springtime Fair!

[She laughed and shook a little off of her shoe before shrugging. It was just drool, so she wasn't too worried. Leaning down, she let Iggy sniff her hand, not wanting to try and pet until she'd done that.]

Oh, it is fine. I can't take my cat to a place like that. I'm barely working on getting her trained to use the litterbox. They can be quite the handful, especially when they are stubborn.

[Yes, she'd finally adopted a pet... funny story, that. It'd tried to eat her when she'd been small. This was her vengeance.]
prometheanflame: (hell2me)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Iggy immediately recoils and glares at Chloe. He watches for any movement that can be perceived as hostile.]

No, it's...Iggy always had behavior problems.

[He reaches into his pocket, steps back to the booth, pulling Iggy with him, and sets some money on the counter in exchange for tickets.]

I think he's getting irritated. Can we walk somewhere?
true_noir: (Default)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-21 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[She pulled her hand back and kept a small distance from Iggy, to help in case he was agitated. Nodding to Muhammed, she looked around and motioned towards the attractions.]

We may. Wherever you wish to go. We wouldn't want to make his day worse. I feel for you though. I am having issues with my own cat.
prometheanflame: (hell2me)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-22 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really nothing to be worried about. [He tugs on the leash, and Iggy follows, still eyeing Chloe.] He normally doesn't cause any trouble for me.

[Just more apologies until he can get it out of his system. At least Chloe isn't yelling at the dog in retribution. That would spell a death sentence for her.]

The game stands. I just bought some tickets.
true_noir: (Cloak15)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-22 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pfffft, Chloe wasn't about to yell at Iggy. Her pet was the cat that had tried to eat her while shrunk. She could be really patient with animals when she wanted. She nodded to him as they walked.]

Mmm, you are fortunate. Nadia is taking some work, though I did just adopt her. It's to be expected a stray would take some patience, no?

[While they made their way in the direction of the stands, she eyed them. Notorious for being a little rigged, she could see a few that she was still pretty certain she could do well at even if the carnies tried their best. These skills had to be good for something.]
prometheanflame: (talk talk)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-26 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Iggy's the same. Not a stray, he was taken from his previous owner. He doesn't trust people easily.

[Yet for some reason, this dog trusts him. Animal shelter volunteers thought it to be a miracle. Iggy still isn't sure about Chloe, but he stays close to Mohammed.

The group stops in front of a set of stalls: on the left is the ring toss, on the right is a shooting game.]

Do you want to play a few rounds with me? [He holds out two tickets. It's the least he can do to make up for the slobber.]
true_noir: (Smile2)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-26 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
With dogs and cats... it is harder to break that. If they have learned not to trust, they do not turn back to trust easily. I'm glad that you've been able to build a rapport with him though. [As it meant he wasn't alone.]

I wouldn't mind that at all. What were you thinking? Ring toss or shooting game? [She wasn't going to be nearly as good at either as she was at the darts, so it would be a fun little challenge.]
prometheanflame: (Let me explain you a thing)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-26 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ring toss. [He moves the handle of the leash to his left hand.] I can keep track of Iggy this way.

[He steps up to the attendant and hands over two ticket stubs. The attendant, without changing their expression, gives a set of eight rings to each of them. There are multiple targets on displays of different heights, each ranging from 10 to 100 points. The difficult ones high up are worth more, and there is one prize work 800 points: a giant fat Chocobo plush.]
true_noir: (Cloak5)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-26 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ring toss it is.

[She followed over to the stall and took hold of her rings, looking them over and testing the weight on one. This wasn't like throwing a dart at all. She could get it up there, but targeting one of the various bottles and pegs in the distance was, at best, kind of a crap-shoot. She was reasonably sure that she could get a few, but getting a full eight-hundred?

Oh, that was unlikely.]

Apres Vous, Monsieur. [Nope, no lady's firsts here.]
prometheanflame: (bird dad)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-26 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Merci. [He remembers some French from high school. He picks one up, as his other hand has a leash wrapped around it multiple times, closes an eye, and focuses on the nearest peg. It's worth only 20 points, but he figures if he can make this, he can move onto the next level.

To make the game far, this game has been set up so that lower level pegs were deceptively easy. When he tosses the ring, flies in a high arc before descending on the peg, which hits the metal. However, that doesn't completely knock it away, and it swivels down.

Mohammed smiles to himself. He tosses the next ring, targeting the 40 point peg. The landing is smoother this time. Another ring for the 50 point peg--

It crashes into it.]
true_noir: (Creeper)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-26 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Chloe had a feeling that was what this was designed for. The points were designed so a winner could get a small prize every time or two, but not all the time. As she hefted her ring, she felt the weight and tested it on the 10 point runs.

An easy catch, but as she started to get used to it, she could tell that it wasn't going to be so easy soon enough. Her own second followed up successfully, right on the same ring as his, but fifty was a no dice. She narrowed her eyes, watching how it crashed, doing her best to gauge how they'd missed. More force, or less?]

It is not as easy as they say it is, is it?
prometheanflame: (DETERMINATION)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-27 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
It's supposed to be difficult... [Maybe he should try again. He takes more time setting up, slowly swinging his throwing arm to determine a good trajectory.

He swings his arm faster, letting go of the ring. It sails.

Bonk.

It flies over the peg and hits the one behind and above it.]
true_noir: (Sneaky Smile)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-27 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
True, that. They wouldn't have any prizes at the end if it wasn't difficult.

[The next ring was closer but didn't strike home again. However, the one after that spun and landed on the fifty. She smiled to herself. Yes, she was pretty sure that she could hit it again.

...well, every other time anyway, but that was an improvement.]
prometheanflame: (notice)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-29 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Chloe is catching up to him, bringing out a competitive side. He knows this doesn't really matter, but why let Chloe get an easy victory? He watches Chloe's arm as she tosses the ring, how her wrist twists to give it a spin, how and when she lets go. If he can mimic that...

...It can curve and completely miss the mark. But hey, it ended up on the 25-point peg. It could have been worse.]

I think I'm getting the hang of it. [He totally did that on purpose.]
true_noir: (Peaceful)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-29 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I am starting to as well.

[She definitely had a competitive streak herself, which may have been why she attempted to hit the top peg for 100, and missed. No, no, she didn't have the range on that quite right. Bit if she could get a little more practice...

Maybe on the second set of throws? Ok, third set.]
prometheanflame: (DETERMINATION)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-05-30 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Mohammed has three rings left. He needs to make them count. The 50-point peg is eluding him, but he's sure he's going to get it with practice.

The first ring veers to the fight and catches on the peg, but the angle causes it to bounce in the wrong direction. The second completely misses.

He's getting too emotional to think right. He needs to calm down and just. Focus.]

Can we do a second round after this? [He's stalling for time. If he's striking up conversation while Chloe takes her turn, it shouldn't be noticeable, right?]
true_noir: (Creeper)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-05-30 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I would actually very much like that. I need a few rounds to get the angle just right. I'm lucky to be breaking a hundred today.

[And she threw her second to last one at the top stud, missing and clattering down, but she had a feeling she could get this with a little more practice. Yes, this was actually a little fun.

Throwing it up, it barely missed once again, and she leaned back, tapping her foot while gauging it. She pulled out the tickets for the second round.]

I will pay for this next round though. It is only fair.

[She had enough points for a consolation prize, she was pretty sure. Could points be stacked up? Probably not.]
prometheanflame: (bird dad)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-06-02 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[That should be enough. He can do this. He steps back, takes longer to prepare, and flicks his wrist. The ring sails and...manages to catch onto the edge of the 50-point peg. It is tosses from side to side as it makes it way down.]

Alright. Anything you want?

[The attendant gestures at the cheap toys lining the back wall. Plushies made from thin fabric plastic robots that break apart after dropping them three times, rubber toys that will end up in the dog's collection.

It's not worth it.]

I'm fine. We're going to try for more points. Chloe? [A grin.]
true_noir: (Default)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-06-02 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She clapped when she saw him hit the ring and nodded.]

yes, I think we should try for more points. It only seems fair... though I think anything fluffy would be good. Perhaps a Lion. I know a friend who would like it.

[She hefted her ring and tossed at the hundred again, watching as it clattered off, tumbling down and catching on a 10 by chance. No anger in those eyes. She was gauging distance carefully now.]
prometheanflame: (bird dad)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-06-06 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[He is going to do better this time. Now that he has the experience of a man who has played ring toss a minute ago, he tests his throw - it might have gotten rusty while the attendant set up the game - on a 40 point peg. Once he lets go, he realizes that perhaps he wasn't thinking as clearly was he was before, what if he messes up--

It catches on the peg.]

So I did improve.
true_noir: (I prefer smirking smugly to smiling hone)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-06-06 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You're catching it... and so am I.

[the ring caught on the edge of the peg twirling once before slipping off. The attendant didn't look nervous, but he did notice. It was when the one that came right after caught exactly on the hundred and she smiled triumphantly that he looked a bit on edge.

These two both looked like the sort who could actually throw these for real.]

I have a feeling that by the time if we do a third round, this may go very differently...
prometheanflame: (bird dad)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-06-07 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[He has to catch up to her, and he must conquer the 50 point peg if is to ever defeat Chloe and win the top prize. He prepares his wrist, slow going through the flicking motions, and releases it. The ring soars, catches on the peg, and swings around until it hits the bottom.

Next comes the 75 point peg. Surprisingly, this peg is less difficult to reach than the previous one. It must have been poor oversight on the side of the attendant - or calculated despair for those that hoped for an easier game.]

Now it's an actual contest.

[Iggy walks about in a circle, bored but happy to be left alone, and lies on the ground to take a nap.]
true_noir: (I prefer smirking smugly to smiling hone)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-06-07 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[A miss and another hit on the hundred, and the attendant was definitely getting nervous. They were clearly starting to get this game's number the next game was going to be different, wasn't it?

She grinned over at him and nodded.]
It is definitely going to be a much closer match in the end. Getting the hundred consistently is meant to be difficult.

...I think the rings are not weighted quite the same. [Wouldn't surprise her at all.]
prometheanflame: (listening/neutral)

[personal profile] prometheanflame 2017-06-13 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? [He takes a ring in each hand and weighs them on his palms. It may be confirmation bias, but he feels there is something different between the two.] I'll have to see how they compare.

[The 75-point hurdle has been passed, now it was time for the true goal. Taking the ring that felt lighter, Mohammed closed an eye and went through the throwing motions. Being that far in the back, he'd have to use more force.

Too much force. The ring sailed over the peg and clattered against the display, shaking some of the plastic figurines.]
true_noir: (I prefer smirking smugly to smiling hone)

[personal profile] true_noir 2017-06-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, it was a way for the barkers to try and keep people, even talented ones like these two, from getting 800 regularly. She had two more in this set, but she was ready and waiting to try another time after this, to really shoot for the gold.

One miss, and another, though this time it landed down and onto the fifty mark, netted her enough points for something in the middle of the prizes, though she didn't seem all that interested in it. At this point, it was less about the prize than it was the principle of beating them.]

What do you say we both try to beat them at their game on the last round?
