Your Mission... (Semi-Open)
WHO: Chloe and Various - Semi-Open
WHERE: The Mayor's Office
WHEN: 5/8
WHAT: Breaking in
WARNINGS: None, other than probably bad mission impossible references or something.
Chloe had been to the mayor's office once or twice, once when getting her citizenship and a few times more recently. She had a rough idea of the outer foyer's layout and where the ventilation shafts met it. So, the idea of getting into his office seemed plausible. She had passed notes to a few people that she knew, reasonably trusted and thought might be interested in joining her. There'd been a warning, though, to keep their phones shut off for this, in case Retrospec might be watching.
It wasn't that she had anything against the mayor. He was a pleasant person, and were it not for the last six months, she would even have said he was a good mayor, but he was always so very pointed in pretending that nothing was wrong, no matter how people came to him with concerns. She was convinced that he might know something, and being only a few inches tall was the perfect time to potentially get in, one way or another. If he had anything that she could find, a few well and carefully snapped photos might finally get the app users some much needed information on Retrospec. His office should have had some records of them, after all, assuming they really existed.
Getting into the building wasn't hard, even on a rainy day like this. The staff was equally tiny, and so avoiding notice while going to the ventilation shaft was a matter of not making a scene. She hovered near the entrance, beckoning the others in with her, a spool of twine now stashed inside of the vent behind her, along with a pair of paper clips as makeshift grapples. Once they were close enough, she slipped in and waited inside the shaft's base for the others. No talking inside.
(OOC: I've received a few interested parties, so I'm going to do this as a semi-open as opposed to a single closed thread. Anyone originally interested may tag in. Chloe will be tagging them, and you can feel free to scene amongst yourselves. The ultimate goal of this thread is to reach the locked room behind the mayor's office. The vent shaft is a tricky climb with occasional bug and dust bunny problems, and reaches a room adjacent to his office. The mayor is currently busy watching the Mighty Muffin Girls on his now gigantic screen in another room. There is a small amount of information that can be found in the locked back room. Information about that from the mods can be found here)

which may be dumb. does she have extra paper clip grapples or is she going to throw down a rope, or? ]

Are you fast enough to get up this without aid? I probably can rely on my skills, but I'm not sure about others.

[She also remembered gloves but forgot her ski mask, but considering she knows two or three people who inexplicably look near identical to her she figures she can get away with it. She turns to Dave after nodding to Chloe.]
I still owe you, and the square-cube law says two of us can probably get up on one string.

I have no idea, but I do trust you on that. The paper clip should hold that well. Nice idea on using the thumb tacks, though. I feel as if we were in some strange novel about tiny people.
(OOC: Just as a note, since I'm not 100% sure how many folks will arrive, replies can be a little free-form to each other. No worries on post order. A little chaos is ok once in a while.)

[ dave has worn...gloves? and jeans and sneakers and a shirt. he is less spy gear than the girls here, but he's pretty sure he's fast enough to trick any security cameras. so. ]
Ready when you are.

No matter what, we should be careful, should we not?

But in the current state of affairs she was in danger just trying to make the (now hours-long) walk to the school; snooping around in an office was, at this point, simply more of the same. This at least let her keep an eye on people, and would, perhaps, on the merest chance, give her something more concrete to grapple with.
Blame some bad walking experiences but her Lilliputian improvised adventuring gear looked more like it was oriented towards the traditional fantasy dungeon delve; she was decked out in a number of disposable blades and what looked like half of a nails scissor, unscrewed from its mate. Just the thing for vermin. For concealment she'd simply worn a painter's mask and some safety glasses and pinned her distinctive hair up under a hat.]
I think care should be a given by now.
[This whole episode was fraught with peril so far as she was concerned. At least they didn't have to worry much about falling at their current weights. Well, unless they were carrying a bunch of sharp stuff.]
If something needs saying better to say it. I don't want someone trying to sign me a warning if I'm about to kick a spider.

[She gets her climbing gear out and starts her ascent.]

If this is to happen again... when this is to happen again, it would not hurt for us to have military hand signs for simple messages. Perhaps we can look into it. [Grunt] for now, speak quietly I think.
Just so you know, I have ordered some of those... decoder rings? A silly toy, but a Caesar cipher is simple to learn. We can use it on paper to speak to each other, at least try to make Retrospec work.
[She was deeply worried that the same fears Catherine had were very true. This could be a complete waste of time, but at the same time there might be something here, and it wasn't a Retrospec building. Any sign, any indication of something was better than nothing. As she crested the heights to reach the top, she waited to help anyone still coming up.]

[ WHY NOT. dave will...wait until all the girls are up, actually, before he parkours up there. so that he doesn't get in anyone's way. ]

So the cryptography club will meet weeknights and the paintball team on the weekend?
[Gotta practice, after all. Call this another idea she's not sold on the utility of, but she did show up for this...]

Mmmm, something like that. But I think we might have a difficult time scheduling the urban spelunking class, no?
[Once she'd seen them all up, she gave Dave a nod of appreciation. The upgrades were ... useful right now. Pulling up the twine, she wrapped it around her arm and started off in the direction of the mayor's office. In theory, the building's layout shouldn't be too bad, hopefully.]
Keep your ears open... in case you hear scuttling. Bugs like to come to places like this.
