WHAT: Persona 5: Friendship is Magic returns where our survivors try to hassle rainbow merponies for shells.

[ With the infection slowly (moderately, now) spreading throughout Recolle, Akira has already decided to work on looking for cures or protection charms. Whatever that can help them contain the virus, then work towards dispeling it all on this fine spooky month of October. What a coincidence that they get to meet their favorite pony friends, the hippocampi? This quest is looking pretty easy for the both of them.

With a quick trip, they're in Pesgare, readying themselves with some light scuba gear to make the trip to their cove. Before Akira fastens everything on, he gently pats his own head in a certain spot, a little curious and. Well. Confused? it feels like he has a horn, tough masked by his messy hair. It's concerning, but the urges to infect don't resonate yet. He should be fine! ]

Looks like we're back again. [ Humming, he hopes this makes it an easy fetch quest for them. ] This Encounchtra will really help us—or at least me. I keep running into sirens lately.

[ And Fighting for his Life. A minute, Akira is in swimwear. Time to take a dip. ]

[ How can any of this go wrong. Two men, one infected, scuba diving into a cave with pony creatures that may or may not remember them, and may or may not destroy them on sight... it's going to be a breeze. ]

I feel I am becoming more and more familiar with this place. Dare I say fond as well?

[ One day he'd like to take a holiday here. Just a weekend, to enjoy and not put his life on the line or do something reckless. ]

But the sooner we get more remedies, the sooner we can start curing everyone. So... it's up to us to do a good job, yes?

[ He's ready!!! To go see his buddies, the hippocampi, once more!! ]

[ That is definitely their movie now. Two Men, One Cure: Friendship is Magic. Akira takes in Yusuke's words, thinking over what he feels about the place... ]

We should go fishing here next time we visit.

[ Though he has no idea if Recolle will exist the next time, he's rather confident that things will be fine. Anyway, it's time to dive. Akira makes the first splash, wading through the waters before a single thumbs up can be seen several feet away.

We're good. ]

[ Do they get the royalties of a movie if they go through with this? ]

... I've never gone fishing before. That would be fun. [ HE'LL SUCK AT IT, BUT it'll be fun.

Oh, and there goes Akira. Once he gives that almighty thumbs up, Yusukes wades out after him, hurrying as much as one man can through water in scuba gear to catch up to his friend. ]

The sooner we get there, the sooner we find a cure, yes?

Yes.

[ And they'll swim straight to the hippocampi cave. The majestic creatures aren't necessarily waiting for them, but they're present with all their beauty reflecting against the cavern walls. Akira would admire them if it weren't for that fact they leer at him.

Just him.

Not Yusuke. All wariness and hostility is definitely aimed towards him. This is a little frustrating since he wants to keep this growing infection on the down low. ]

... What did I do wrong?

[ Emerging into the cave, Yusuke is delighted to see the hippocampi again. Beautiful, and elegant... and oh so angry to see them.

Or not just them, more... Akira. Hoisting himself out of the water, he shakes off excess water and glances between the hippocampi and Akira. ]

I'm not sure. Did you say something rude to them the last time we were here?

[ He turns back to the creatures and makes some soothing motions at them, hoping they'll calm themselves long enough to let Akira a little closer. Hello ponyfriends. He has missed you. ]

I don't believe so. They did let all of us ride them to shore.

[ It seems safe to assume that none of the hippocampi were offended that day, but maybe this is a different batch? Akira stays in the deeper waters by the entrance of the cave, keeping half of his face submerged and blowing some peeved bubbles.

The hippocampi are wary of Yusuke at first, but warm up when they recognize him. Once again, they are friends. Akira thinks this is his opportunity to approach, but the rainbow horses are quick to neigh at him.

Literally, BEGONE. ]

I'm hurt, Yusuke.

I don't think they would be acting like this without a reason though.

[ He is surrounded by his beautiful pony children and there is warmth in his heart, but it is tempered and sorrowed by their reaction to his friend. This isn't the reunion he had hoped for.

One of the hippocampi snuffles curiously at his hand, and after a moment, lets Yusuke run his hand down its mane. ]

Did Akira do something to offend you? [ The horse whinnies at him. ] I am certain he didn't mean to...

[ The horses' nostrils flare, chuffing out bubbles when Akira is mentioned. Our protagonist is still in the depths, but motions closer only to get all the merhorses riled up again, so he stays at the edge.

Pony no like. ]

Do you think you can ask them about the shells?

[ He wants to pet one!! And seeing them act like this hurts him so, but he also wants to get this over with before he has to explain himself to his friend. ]

[ Pony really no like. This is upsetting. ]

Ah, yes...

[ They have a purpose here, other than witnessing the sad break up of Akira and the hippocampi's friendship. RIP. ]

We came here for a purpose, as wonderful as it is to see you all healthy and thriving again. People back home have been suffering from different illnesses, and we have been told that you may know the location of some large shells that can be used to mute the song of merpeople.

[ JUST GETTING THAT ALL OUT THERE. One should always be honest with friends. Akira. ]

[ Because the ponies very much don't want to give up their shells (they also have no idea what Yusuke is saying), they only tilt their heads and whinny a confused noise. Why do you look so pained, Yusuke? They understand that you are somewhat distract, so they bump their noises against his hand and see if they can cheer him up.

Akira is still squinting from his dunce corner, before motioning over to the depths of their cave. ]

Maybe it's over there?

[ Deeper in the cave, there may be some purple twinkles in the bottom of the water. ]

[ Why did he have to ask them... if they don't understand...

Alas, there will forever be separated by this barrier, but their hearts will connect regardless, as they do in true friendships. ]

Over where...? [ He cranes his neck slightly. ] There?

[ There's a slightly angry whinny from behind him, and one of the hippocampi nose-butts Yusuke's arm, and he turns around to blink at it. ]

Perhaps so. They seem a little agitated that we are looking there...

... We'll just have to make a deal with the hippocampi.

[ Even though Akira can tell that they can't necessarily understand what they're saying, maybe a little more hand gestures will help them here. Of course, Akira is just looking to scratch that itch in him, one he can't explain... And it has to do with making contracts.

He comes closer, finally entering the cove and getting some surprised neighs out of the seaponies (like they're gasping). Placing a hand over his heart, he tries to show HE'S FRIENDLY and NOT GROWING ANY HORNS. ]

We're looking for a shell that will help our friends.

[ He motions towards that little pocket over there where the shells rest, then to himself posing in a submissive position. ]

If you give us one, I'll stop asserting my demonic presence onto your team.

[ SUBTLe. ]

[ Yusuke just watches, for the moment. Stepping in right now feels like it might be the wrong move, but he does watch to see how the hippocampi react. They seem nervous and wary, and some of them almost seem offended and angered--

Akira does seem well intentioned, but there is something odd about his phrasing. Or the suaveness of his motions. He can't put his finger on what though. ]

Perhaps that isn't the most comforting way of phrasing it. "Demonic"...?

[ Still. He looks over at the hippocampi for a moment... and then gets up and walks over to the pool where the shells are and points at them, then himself and then the exit. After a moment, he adds a universal symbol -- a small motion with his index finger a thumb. They only want to take a few. ]

Please.

[ It is also very sincere. And accompanied by a bow. ]

[ This is definitely more pizzazz that Akira would usually give, even when he's at his most extra... It doesn't last this long without his mask. He merely gives Yusuke a shrug when he's asked to make things more comforting.

The hippocampi seem to chatter among themselves, sometimes giving each other looks before they bat Akira back to the outskirts of their cove again. Yusuke may go is what they're saying, but some are too restless... Showing that they're not sure about this.

Either way, it's up to fox boy. ]

I'm cheering you on, Yusuke. Swim like your life depends on it.

[ Yusuke is tired. But he will do his best. ]

It may be best if you remain near the entrance, in case they change their minds.

[ Aka: don't antagonise his pony buddies. He quickly shifts himself over to the pool and, without much in the way of hesitation, dives down into the water. He doesn't want to leave Akira out there alone for long, or give the hippocampi much time to reconsider their offer.

So he swims as fast as he can into the depths. Taking one shell would be fair, but... he's going to aim for two. So they have a back up one. ]

[ Akira waits by the edge of the cove again, shunned and exiled as usual. This is on par for the course for him, it seems like, so he sulks here in his time-out corner and waits for Yusuke to swim through the jello waters. The hippocampi are still hesitant and watch over Yusuke feverishly, but.

They don't interfere. They trust him. ]

How are you doing over there?

[ He wants to watch, too. ]

[ You are the unfavourite child in this new horse family, Akira. The swimming takes a while, getting deep enough to grab a couple of the shells, and then emerge again, but he does his best.

And then finally, he emerges, folding his arms on the side of the pool to hoist himself up -- and he waves the hand with the two shells to show he has been victorious. ]

Is this alright?

[ It's... more to the cautious, staring hippocampi than Akira, but both options are valid and appreciated. ]

[ Akira doesn't need a horse family!! He just needs the shells! When Yusuke emerges from the jello pool, he perks up from where he is, eyes beaming with delight. He can finally leave this judgmental place.

The ponies look very nervous when they see their precious shells held up like that, but they still don't tackle Yusuke yet— ]

Okay, let's get out of here before they change their mind.

[ Come, fox friend. He summons Koryu for fast transport, who coils around in the water in wait. ]

[ Horse family is lovely!! Yusuke takes a moment to bow respectfully to the hippocampi. Hopefully his gratitude and friendship will come through in his motions and the way he speaks: ]

Thank you for your kindness, and your patience. I hope I will see you again.

[ He wants to hug the ponies goodbye!! But there's a fear of outstaying his welcome, so he doesn't. Instead he waves with his free hand, before scurrying over to where Akira is. It is definitely time to leave. ]

[ It's time for a high five as Yusuke gets back to them. Kohryu seems please as well as he waits for them to grab on. Once they do, he gently swims out of the cove. ]

That wasn't too bad. It seems like they still like us—well, you.

[ And they can ignore Akira's strange behavior, right? Right. Even if he's ogling Yusuke for quite some time, feeling himself succumb to his desire to infect his friend. That trance is broken by beautiful song that resonates through the water. ]

Am I hearing things?
