[closed] My style is rich, dope, phat in which
WHO: Nobu, Koukichi (
5kotai) and Yuuko (
ghostories)
WHERE: Yuuko's place
WHEN: 02/04
WHAT: Koukichi offered to bake pie for these two losers, so they arranged a day for it.
WARNINGS: koukichi is cute, the other two are not (nothing is going to happen worth warning for)
[Reclusive as she is - although she wonders if she can really call herself that anymore, these days - she figures there are worse ways to spend a day off. Koukichi's a cute kid, while Yuuko is Yuuko, so when she was asked to spend time with both of them she didn't feel the urge to refuse.
And since she's the one who knows where everyone lives, she decides to head over to Koukichi's place first to pick him up, then the pair make their way across to Yuuko's home. As they're approaching the front door, she speaks up just before they reach it.]
Yuuko's nice. She's a little eccentric, but she isn't a bad person...so don't feel too anxious, okay?
[Considering how young he is, she feels the need to say something to that effect considering Yuuko's a goddamned stranger. A stranger who has no issue asking a kid to make them pie for free...
Either way, she's ringing the buzzer now. Open up, Yuuko.]

Yuuko hopefully has a stocked kitchen for this, but otherwise, Koukichi borrowed his aunt's baking tools and her cookbook, all stuffed in a backpack. ]
Yeah! She seemed funny, and likes you a lot! I'll be okay... I think. I just have to bake good pies.
[ Maybe? The outside of the house is pretty nice if it indicate sanything... Anyway, they're doing this for Aki. That's not really said out loud but it was how Yuuko convinced him to do it. So, he either was gently manipulated or they're both good beans wanted to treat a recluse.
Well. Time to wait for the princess host to grace the two with her presence. ]
no subject
Which is why, donning an apron over pastel colors she rarely wears, Yuuko throws the door open with enthusiasm. ]
Nobu, you came!
[ She's just gonna tackle her with the biggest hug now. She hasn't even seen Koukichi yet. Hopefully he isn't behind her?! ]
Ooh, I'm so excited! [ RUBS CHEEK ON ] I've been hungry since yesterday, you know!
no subject
Don't make it sound like you're living deprived of food or something.
[SIGH.
Although she does return the hug...]
...Koukichi. This is Yuuko. [She pushes her face against Yuuko's to force her to look his way.] Yuuko, Koukichi.
no subject
It's nice to meet you, Miss Yuuko! I hope it's not to much of a bother we have to use your kitchen.
[ It's kind of hard to not stare at the two smashing cheeks. Also that is a lot of intruded-on personal space, so he tries to smile and hope the pink on his cheeks isn't obvious.]
You two are very close, huh?
[ Water is also wet. ]
no subject
Akinobu and I go way back. She saved me from certain death! I owe her my life! We're practically family.
[ Now Aki looks Cool. Fortunately for her, Yuuko lets go before Koukichi feels awkward. (He already does.) ]
That means you're family, too. And family can use the kitchen! [ It's not like she uses it anyway. ] I could use a homemade pie or two.
no subject
[Not exactly a warm display of reciprocation...
On top of that, she just kinda walks past the two of them and into Yuuko's house, as if she owns the damn place.]
Well, you two can stand out here if you want, but I'm going inside.
no subject
interesting friendship to say the least. But no complaints from the tiny baker. ]
Oh, wait for me, Aki!
[ He'll follow right after her. ]
no subject
Yuuko follows them inside and closes the door behind them before rushing to lead them to the kitchen. ]
We have all the ingredients we need in stock, in case you're wondering. Can I get you anythign before we start? I'll get you water. Oh! Have you tasted Koukichi's pies before, Aki?
no subject
Well, it is still Yuuko's home, not hers.
And at that question, she just shakes her head.]
We've both lived in Recolle a few years now, but we only found each other very recently. [if only nobu ventured outside more often. She looks to Koukichi then.] And you were a little too young to be baking pies when we first met.
no subject
I moved here recently to be with my other side of the family! Um, when the school year started. Aki found me, really...
[ In the abandoned subway, abandoned himself. Also crying. Yep. (This is hilarious now, knowing about FGO Nobukatsu...) ]
Aunt Ryo on my other family's side has been trying to practice baking, since she found out I like sweets. But I like helping her too! This will be my first time baking a pie... so we'll make mini ones, they're easier
[ Yes. "We". Baking is a fun family bonding experience with a fauxneesan and her wife. ]
Also, water would be nice, please!
no subject
Hehhh. Estranged family members having a tearful reunion after years of hardship... Ah, how moving! [ They weren't—okay, whatever. Here's your water, Kou. Nobu gets a glass too. ] I like sweets, too. Maybe Aki should be learning from you!
[ In the kitchen, everything is all set: the ingredients, the mixer, the baking trays... but not everything. She's banking on the assumption that Koukichi might have brought things, too. ]
no subject
What makes you think I don't know how to bake?
[Her skillset is very expansive, okay. Her mother made sure of that.]
It's just easier not having to make stuff yourself.
[But she still came along, so she has no issue with actually having to do it.]
no subject
[ Saving this kiddo's life from the city authorities, and later boredom. Definitely moving! Koukichi unpacks his bag with all the kitchen utensils, so don't worry about that. He was prepared! Also Koukichi cheated and already made the pie crust. PIE CRUST IS A PAIN AND YOU MAKE THAT SHIT AHEAD OF TIME-- ahem. It's in a bag and still cold from being chilled. ]
Ah, I'm glad to hear that Aki can bake! But yeah, it takes time. Do you guys have preferences for filling?
[ He's hoping that Yuko or Aki have an idea what they want to fill the pies with, but the cookbook has different filling recipes if they're stuck. Please, go nuts and disregard when the time comes. ]
no subject
Moving on, yes. ]
I want a unicorn pie.
[ Yes. ]
no subject
Nope, she's lost. Rather than ask Yuuko directly, apparently she decides to look at Koukichi instead.]
Do you have any idea what that is?
no subject
I was hoping for a fruit. What's a unicorn pie made of, Miss Yuuko?
[ Oh boy. ]
no subject
[ A beat. ]
Well, I hear it has mango and strawberries in it.
no subject
So that's what I want to make today! The pie of my dreams!
no subject
[She heaves the most dramatic sigh and rubs a hand through her hair.]
What a pain. Can't we just do apple? Apple's simple.
no subject
[ So simple. Even after all that trauma with the faces and a guy telling him one could die from apple stick overdose. ]
Um... if we make three, we certainly can try making a mango and a strawberry pie too! It's worth a shot to make a dream pie for Miss Yuuko! She asked, after all.
[ 2/3 unicorn, 1/3 sanity. Sound right for this team for pie-nanigans.
...Also since they need to cut up lots of fruit, guess who brought a spare fruit knife, and a big, fancy one (why are they so big)! THIS KID... HOLY CRAP. he is unwrapping the towel off it and checking that it's clean, oh so casually. ]
no subject
...
[ You know, even if her knees are trembling. ]
no subject
Though even if that was on her mind at the time, it's not like it matters anymore. Yuuko's reaction to the knife reveal is a more pressing issue, and when she turns her attention to Yuuko, the exasperation from a moment ago is gone. Her expression's softened and she reaches out to her-]
...Yuuko? [-and attempts to take her by the hand.] Is something the matter?
no subject
Ah-!
[ He sets the knife flat on the table with the towel, folding half over the knife to cover it. Now fretful, with his voice shaking: ]
Miss Yuuko, I'm sorry...!
no subject
And squeeze Aki's hand, too. ]
Hahaha! No, it's okay, Koukichi... I just get nervous around knives. [ But that's normal, right? Everyone is scared of sharp objects.
That's not what she said around Aki's sword, though. ]
Ah, but we can't let that get in the way of our pies now, can we? Let's go!
1/2
And honestly, it just makes her want to drop all this stupid pie stuff. To tell the pair of them there's clearly something more important going on, and that Koukichi should sit in the living room while the two of them talk this out. That it's a higher priority.
But Yuuko's trying to act like nothing's wrong. Like it's all fine, and...
...well.
She wants to do that too, if only for Koukichi's sake. He sounded shaken up by it after all, and they are the adults here...]
no subject
Dummy. [It's a softer word choice than idiot, at least.] At this rate, you're going to make Koukichi cry with all your theatrics, you know. I won't forgive you if you do.
[She reaches up with both hands and pinches Yuuko's cheeks, then pulls on them...
...except, she doesn't pinch them, she's just trying to make it look like it hurts. Her grip is fairly careful, so it might be uncomfortable, but it certainly won't hurt...not like when she usually does it, when she thinks Yuuko is being an idiot.
Not to mention she's standing the way she is intentionally; he might not be able to see her face, but Yuuko can, and her expression isn't really in it despite sounding like her usual hardass self. She still looks concerned, and her eyes seem to say we'll talk about this later, because after a few seconds she lets go and just sighs, as if this is all just a bother.
(Even if it kind of is...how did she end up babysitting two children today).]
So. Apple, yeah? I can cut them if you guys want to do the other stuff.
no subject
[ Koukichi covers his face with his hands. A bit too late to make that sort of odd threat, he definitely feels like this is his fault. He's not close to Yuuko, so the knife trauma might as well be a real thing here. ]
I'm okay, I'm... not crying! Please forgive Miss Yuuko, I just wanted to make things more convenient if we had more to cut fruit.
[ Off he goes to the cupboards to look for the ingredients for apple filling, like sugar and cinnamon. ]
rises from the dead
Fortunately, Yuuko's quick on the uptake. Acting should be easy. She's practiced it in front of her dad's side of the family so many times. Blades are one thing, people are another. As she pats her cheeks, she slips into Japanese, ]
It's alright, Kou-chan. [ Then back to English, ] You didn't do anything wrong. I'm just not used to the kitchen, that's all.
[ And this is true. Her family could afford to have Yuuko focus solely on her studies, but that didn't pan out so well... OH WELL. She pumps her fists! Yeah!! ]
But Yato taught me a thing or two, so I'll make the crust!
no subject
[Neither of them know he prepared it beforehand...maybe they just didn't see it yet, what with all the trouble over his big sharp knife.
What will you do, Kou-chan.]
no subject
[ As he goes over to the refrigerator to grab butter...
He's going to
toss the baggied crust into the freezer.
Just in case something goes wrong here! ]
I know Yato! He's really nice and funny, I like him!
no subject
But aww, Yuuko's just happy she gets to learn how to bake from such a cute kid. Yato's the opposite of cute. ]
Me too! Yato's pretty reliable when the time calls for it, isn't he? Even if he won't use anyone's showers. [ The last part is said pretty quickly... ] He helped me a lot last Valentine's!
no subject
[YEP. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED CLEARLY.
She's assuming, anyway.
But Nobu makes her way over to take the aforementioned knife, careful not to unwrap it until she's out of Yuuko's sight, then makes her way to their stock of apples. They're all dancing and smiling, but she shows no hesitation in starting to peel the skin off, then slicing them up appropriately.
they ain't dancin no more...]

[ The plus side to being a child is being left out of romantic drama unless he is needed for something important. For now though, he is needed for pies. ]
Speaking of, would you like to mix the dry ingredients together? A really good trick is to use a food processor instead of a mixer! I'll show you why when you're done.
[ He's trying to be very hands on with the instruction as he hands Yuuko measuring cups and spoons. Oh and pointing to the book for the measuring amounts. APPLE SLAUGHTER WHAT APPLE SLAUGHTER... ]
