It doesn't look like apatite is too hard. If we can find something harder than it, we should be able to either scratch it or, if we're lucky, crack it open.

I don't think I have any tools that would do the trick, but I wonder if some of your art supplies might work in a pinch. An art chisel maybe? We can bring some samples back and see.
