It's that time of year again. The most wonderful and important time of year, Derek's birthday. Last year, Tatsuo planned his birthday, but this year, due to all the craziness with Retrospec going on, Derek figured he'd be willing to plan his 26th birthday it at as long as he didn't have to buy his own cake, that would just be pathetic if he had to do that.

He decided to have it at The Three Broomsticks. It had great food, it was casual, and it was one of the few places that wasn't all pixelated like a 90's video game. Derek messaged as many people he though would be interested in coming and reserved the a few tables in the back.

A. Food

Party goers are welcome to order from the extensive menu and all that the three broomsticks has to offer. Derek's favorites are the fire whiskey and the turkey drum stick, if you needed any recommendations! Also, don't forget that there is cake!

B. Gifts

Did you bring a gift for Derek? Set it on the table where others have placed their gift and Derek will get to them shortly!

C. General Mingling

For general interaction as you all eat and drink your food. This is a very casual birthday party. Just a time to relax and try to forget about all the crazy shit happening in the city.

Yes, there is cake. It might look a little pixelated, since it came from a local bakery and therefore was made by an B-bit NPC, but it should still taste good! Specifically, it's a chocolate espresso cake. But that's for after they eat dinner.

Tatsuo orders the Shepherd's Pie and garden salad. Which is pretty darn tasty. He's curious about what every else ordered though, so he turns to the person sitting next to him.

"Hey, how's your food?"

b -- gift

In addition to bringing the cake, Tatsuo also brought Derek a gift. A board game, that has high levels of replayability and all kinds of interesting (and horrifying) outcomes. He might have picked it up earlier in the month in that creepy toy town.

c -- mingle

After the singing and the candle blowing and the cake cutting, Tatsuo helps himself to some of that cake. And then heads to the bar for a red current rum. As he's been here a couple times with Derek before, he's happy to offer drink suggestions.

"Have you tried the firewhisky?"

Unless you're a minor. Because then he'll suggest the butterbeer.

[Derek unwraps the board game and stares at it.]

What is this? I mean... it looks cool, I've just... never played it.

Only one of the best board games ever made. I played this a few times back in college and it is wild. Basically, a group of people enter a haunted house and shit goes down. But it's different every single time you play it, so you can play it over and over and over, and never have the same series of events happen twice.

Or something. But yes, the characters you play as can die if their stats fall lower enough. For the first half of the game, you explore the house. Then halfway through the game switches from exploration to fighting.

Okay. That's kinda true. But at least with the game you have a playbook that tells you what you need to do to win.

Mariko perks up from her thoughts, raising her glass a little.

"It's pretty good. You coming over here to get yours started?"

"No, I'm going for a Coke and Rum. It's kinda nice when they make it with the red current rum they have here."

Tatsuo flags down the bartender and gives the man his order.

"Kind of like if you made it with a Cherry Coke, but less artificial cherry."

"Sounds tasty. Might change up once I finish this."

She smiles at Tatsuo as the bartender goes to fill the order.

"It's nice to see each other for a normal reason. I almost don't remember the last time we just talked."

Does it count, their conversation last month? When he hadn't quite been himself? Speaking of which...

"Hey. Question. Last month... do you remember a conversation we had around... I think it was the 12th?"

Mariko thinks, taking a sip of firewhiskey and end ending up with nothing as she tries to remember. It's weird, she's usually so good with dates and numbers and all those kinds of things - she would have remembered talking to Tsu.

Except, she knows why she doesn't remember. Damn body swap.

"Uh, no...I think I was dealing with a complicated ...situation. Why, what's up?"

The bartender sets down his drink and Tatsuo picks it up to take a sip.

Derek had been right. She had been swapped. Which means he had that conversation with a complete stranger.

"A complicated situation. I had a couple of those myself last month. First with Matt, and then with Togusa. It made for an... interesting week. Let's just say I made an ass of myself and leave it at that."

A. Food
If anyone asks Derek what he thinks is good from the menu, they will always get the same answer.

"Either the Smoked Turkey Leg or the Rotisserie Smoked Chicken Platter. If you get the Smoked Turkey Leg, get the corn on the cob as a side also. As for drink, you should definitely try the butter beer."

C. Mingle

Derek of courses is making is way around later during the evening and making sure he thanks all the people for coming..

"Hey, thanks for coming. Did you get some cake?"

"Happy Birthday," Lillian would catch Derek's attention with a nod of her head as he went past, offering him a small smile. She hadn't seen him since the memory stuff, but she wasn't going to skip his birthday. She was in jeans, a t-shirt and a light jacket, her arms tucked behind her back, leaning against one of the walls.

"You weren't kidding when you told me about this place, it's pretty nice."

[Derek was happy to see Lillian at his party. He had sent her a text in hopes that she would come, but he wasn't particularly holding his breath. He vaguely remembered seeing her in a dream... sort of, but they hadn't really talking in a while. He smiles back and leans up against the wall right next to her.]

Yeah, once you can see it and all. The food's pretty good too. Have you tried anything yet? It's on me.

I grabbed some, yeah. [She nodded, shifting a bit so she could still look at him as he leaned against the wall, shoulder against it now, arms hooked behind her, head tilted slightly to the side.]

So how ya been? All this weird computer stuff is kinda nuts, huh?

[Derek shakes his head and sucks in a big breath.]

No kidding, right? I'm managing though... I think. I feel like I'm stuck in my old game boy color. Even my birthday cake Tatsuo got me is all 90's pixelated. It at least tastes good. That's what matters right? And you? How have you been holding up? I feel like we haven't talked in ages.

I keep expectin' things to vanish the way they do in video games instead of actually gettin' to chew 'em.

[She shrugged at his question.]

Gettin' by. Everything is so...weird.

[Derek chuckles at her comment about the food. He then nods.]

I agree. That train station thing we all woke up in and how it could take us to different places was really strange. And then later with the building holding all those people in those glass coffins was just freaky. I actually found a few of my friends in there.

B. A present

Even on her best day, Mariko wasn't exactly good at buying presents. So when she arrives to the party, she comes with a birthday card (complete with gift card inside) and a nice bottle of whiskey.

[Derek accepts the card and reads the label on the bottle.]

Right? With all this crazy stuff going on for over a year, I'm amazing i survived it.
