recolle | kaede's not surprise party

WHERE: Makoto Naegi's apartment
WHEN: Around August 12
WHAT: Kiyotaka and Makoto wanted to throw Kaede a surprise party just because. Unfortunately, it's ruined by a bodyswap, but they're still holding a regular party for her. Come join for McDonald's catering, card games, Marco Kart, and Makoto and Kaede in swapped bodies still trying to celebrate. Also, it's potluck, so bring food if you want or just eat McDonald's.
WARNINGS: Typical teenager shenanigans?? Join the party as a bodyswapped person and ruin someone's reputation forever.

What was supposed to be a surprise party for Kaede Akamatsu, has become a regular party. A quick text from either Kiyotaka or Makoto has explained the situation, where Makoto and Kaede has switched bodies and a surprise party is no longer valid. But a regular party will still just be fine! So, the date is moved later on in the afternoon with everyone attending being asked to bring a food or drink if they can. If not, it's no big deal, because there's this:

(pretend there's hamburgers there too. and soda.)

This is all thanks to Byakuya. Also, looking into the fridge for other food won't help because Makoto only has stale bagels and beans.

There's no sofa... but there's chairs to sit on, along with a beanbag chair and a really nice oak table. If there's no more seating area, then sitting on the floor or standing with your plate will just have to do. Most of the party is just people hanging out, but there's a Ultra64 with Marco Kart and other multiplayer games, along with poker and other various card games.

Also, beware of Makoto's crane that is sometimes at the door, pecking at anyone that comes in. They'll try and shoo the bird away if it becomes too much.

[ Kaede still has no idea that the party is supposed to happen, and since she and Makoto have decided to try to live their lives as normally as possible to prevent any confusion or stress for others, she's currently sitting on the beanbag chair fiddling with her phone, trying to decide if she should go buy groceries or clothes and if it's worth the hell she'll get from Makoto if she does either. ]

[As part of the plan, Kiyotaka was supposed to meet up with Makoto in the morning to help set things up for Kaede's surprise party. What sort of friend would he be if he made Makoto do everything?! Besides, he wants to be as involved as possible.

So, dressed in casual, but still rather nice clothes, he knocks on the front door. Everything will go off without a hitch, right? As long as they get started on time!]

[ Kaede is a little surprised to see him standing there when she opens the door. He's dressed nice, and she almost compliments him before she stops herself. Naegi wouldn't do that, so she definitely shouldn't. ]

Hey, Kiyotaka. What's up?

[ ...Is that something Naegi would say? She's already overthinking this. ]

[Ishimaru's head tilts slightly at the question, a frown forming before he points his finger straight at Makoto's face.]

Have you already forgotten, Makoto?! Today we're throwing Kaede a surprise party! We agreed to meet at this time to start our preparations!

[How odd that he'd forget this! But admittedly, his friend can sometimes be spacey...]

[ Kaede pauses before laughing sheepishly. The fact that they were going to throw her a surprise party makes her feel warm inside, though. ]

Oh yeah, I guess I did forget.

[ ...He's totally gonna notice that Naegi isn't acting right. ]

So what should we get started on?

[Ishimaru looks about two seconds away from ranting to Makoto about how important Kaede is and how could he forget such a thing!! But he decides to let this go for now... since they should get started!]

First we need to clean and get this apartment ready for the party! I said before I'd help you with that!

[He soon rubs the back of his neck, suddenly embarrassed.] Y-you already know how important Kaede is to me...

[ That catches Kaede off guard, and she tries as hard as she can to not turn bright red. ]

You know... she would probably be really happy to hear that from you.

[ Which is most certainly true! ]

[He talked to Naegi before about his crush on Kaede... and he's honestly been thinking about confessing to her soon. H-he's just so nervous! What if he says the wrong thing or make her uncomfortable?! Ishimaru doesn't want to ruin the friendship they have now...

Although, he did have that strange dream with her.]

Y-you think so? Maybe I should confess my feelings to her... I-I know that you recommend it, Makoto.

[ Just. Give her a second to short circuit.

Maybe more than a second, actually.

Sorry Ishimaru. ]

[He takes Makoto's silence as encouragement to continue on! It's not like his friend has tried to stop him from talking about this before!]

I've been thinking about it more, especially with how strange things have been lately! [Maybe he should take that step forward.]

Should I say you're important to me and I care about you? O-or I feel happiest when I'm around her? I'm not very good at this...

[ She can't fight the blush and can feel Makoto's cheeks getting warm. She really hopes it's not noticeable. ]

I-I think those are really good things to say! It would make her really happy.

[Ishimaru finally notices the blush that's forming on his friend's cheeks. ...Wow, were his words that moving?! They must be nice if Makoto is reacting in this manner! This is good, now he definitely knows that he's on the right track!]

So I'll say all that! O-okay, and maybe ask... ask if she would...

[Now Ishimaru is becoming flustered, because just saying this out loud is a little embarrassing!] G-go out with me...

[ Before she can even stop herself, Kaede yells out: ]

Yes! I'd love to!

[ Oh god did she really just say that... Kaede puts both hands over her mouth.

She's really doing a terrible job pretending to be Naegi. Honestly, she might as well just give up. ]

[ She takes a deep breath, her cheeks getting redder by the second. ]

Sorry. I... should probably tell you the truth. [ This is so embarrassing. ]

I'm actually Kaede. We woke up in each other's bodies for some reason...

[.......that's the last reaction he'd expect from Naegi--

oh.

Oh.

Immediately, Ishimaru's face turns bright red and he looks partly mortified. Is this some sort of joke? No, Naegi wouldn't and he's heard about the switched bodies.

Which means...]

K-KAEDE?!

[He doesn't mean for his voice to be so shrill, but someone end him now, he's going to die from embarrassment. He said all those things to her and he didn't even notice!

...But doesn't that mean she just said yes?]

W-wait, did you really mean that?! Y-you'd go out with me?

[ Kaede nods enthusiastically. ]

Yes, definitely! I... [ She can feel her cheeks getting even hotter. ] I really like you too!

[He feels his heart jump when she says that, his throat suddenly feeling thick as Ishimaru looks at her with a flustered expression. While he's normally articulate, he can't utter a single response now, nothing aside from a couple of stammered 'ohs.'

But despite all that, there's hope and a certain amount of eagerness coming from him.]

R-really really?! [What started as a mess has become something very different and Ishimaru isn't going to complain. ...Even though he's confessing to Naegi's body.] I didn't know you felt that way towards me!

[ She nods. ]

I have for a while actually... [ It's embarrassing to admit that but they're being totally honest now. ]

[Even though it's a little strange to hear this confession in Makoto's voice, the words still matter the most. So in an almost shy manner, he reaches to take Makoto's hand-- her hand while a small smile begins to spread on his face.]

Same here... I've always wanted to tell you how I feel, but I didn't want to ruin the friendship that we had.

[Especially if she didn't return those feelings.]
