WHAT: FAMILY TRIP TO RAINBOW LAND!
WARNINGS: Adorable cuteness from Xiaolang and Sakura

When nothing scary or weird happened on the third, Derek let out a huge sigh of relief. See? Nothing to worry about! And with this false sense of security, he decides that the next day he was going to take Noah and Sakura (which of course includes Li-Na, Xiaolang, and Leon. Derek has accepted that his family is forever connected to the Hong Kong House) to the new ausement park, RAINBOWLAND!

They all meet up at the entrance to the park and will be walking around taking in all the new sights. Derek has his camera ready to take pictures of everyone. Eventually they all get hungry and since there aren't any restuarants around, it will be a picnic on the grounds! Hopefully they will have enough food! The day will round out with riding the rides that are there and enjoying playing the carnival games.

[FEEL TARGETED XIAOLANG!]

[Derek follows after Xiaolang and sees the basketball throwing games. He looks through the prizes and his eyes land on the biggest penguin plush he has ever seen in his life. Sakura loves penguins right? He has to get this! He walks up to the game and slams down a bill.]

I'd like to play this game please!

[Derek is handed his balls and he prepares to shoot his first basket. The thing is, Derek's isn't bad at basket ball per say, but it's definitely not his best sport. But he's gonna try again anyway.]

[LOOK, HE'S JUST TRYING TO ENJOY THE PARK WITH THE REST OF YOU GUYS, STOP BULLYING HIM!!!

But the moment his eyes lock onto the giant penguin plush, he can practically feel Derek targeting after it, and he fumbles to get the wallet out of his pocket as well. Oh no. Oooooh no. He wasn't about to drop the ball (so to speak) this time around.]

Me too...! I want to do a round on this game, too!!

[He slaps down a bill of his own with a little more force than necessary, eyes blazing as he spots the toy and then turns his eye on Derek, with a look that clearly says 'you're going DOWN, bro'.

As soon as he's gotten his own basketballs, Xiaolang studies the hoop, judging the best angle and distance. After a few moments, he lets the ball fly into the basket, allowing a small, triumphant smile on his face as it goes through. It helps being a sporty kid at school...!]

[Derek would be lying if he said he didn't enjoy this competitive side of Xiaolang. He sees Xiaolang line up his shot and watches the ball go in. OK, so the kid had some game. Just means he REALLY has to bring it himself. Lining up the shot he lets his ball fly.It goes right in, nothing but net.

Derek lets out a breath. Thank goodness! Now for the rest of the balls.]

[Honestly, competition brought out the best in him, in a weird sort of way, setting aside his usual stoic nature to throw himself whole-heartedly in whatever he put his mind to. Maybe it seemed a bit ridiculous to those looking in on the sidelines, but as long as he found a way to win, he didn't care.

He grits his teeth a little at Derek making in the basket-- so maybe he just had a bad start, after all-- before squaring his shoulders, resolving himself to nail the next shot. The competition hype might be a little too much, though, as his next shot winds up bouncing off the hoop, his aim just a tiny bit off. There's a small 'tch' in annoyance, scrambling to retrieve the next ball, expression ever determined. It looks like they were even for the moment, but he wasn't going to let it be that way for long...!]

[Derek sees Xiaolang miss the basket and just looks at him.]

Oh come on, I know you can do better than that! Give me a challenge kid!

[Derek carefully aims and the ball hits the back board and then goes right into the net.]

[Derek's goading gets him to visibly bristle, much like an angry wolf, and you can almost hear the low, threatening growl in the back of his throat. If he's not careful, he could pop the ball with how tightly he's gripping onto it-- and possibly pop a vein, too.]

You missed the first shot yourself, you know...!

[Just because he's mature doesn't necessarily mean he's above sniping back at other people-- at least, not yet. But Derek's scoring more shots, and petty arguing isn't going to get him anywhere, so he sets his jaw and focuses his eye back on the prize. This was for Sakura. He couldn't mess this up. Double checking his aim, he lets the ball fly, watching it swish effortlessly through the hoop, and he turns to Derek, expression a touch smug.]

You were saying...?

[There's that competitive nature Derek likes playing against.]

Don't worry kid, I'm just getting warmed up.

[His next balls hits the rim and thankfully falls in, scoring him more points. He was going to win that penguin for Sakukra!]

[Not if he wins that penguin first!! As much as Xiaolang doesn't want to admit it, there was something... energizing, when it came to going head-to-head with someone. Of course, he got frustrated when he fell behind on things, but fighting fairly with everything you had, and knowing you put your all into it... it was sort of fun? Kind of? ~~How very shonen hero of you, Xiaolang....~~

Xiaolang's next shot goes in as effortlessly as the last one, and his points continue to pile up... but, alas, it looks like he's running low on balls. Without missing a beat, he yanks out his wallet and slaps another bill onto the counter, eyes still trained on the hoops.]

More balls, please...!

[He wasn't entirely sure how many points were needed for that huge toy, but he'd spend all of his allowance if he had to in order to get it.]

[Derek sees Xiaolang slap down another bill and realizes that this kid had been making a few more baskets than him. Realizing he needed to catch up, Derek quickly aims and shoots. The ball bounces off the rim. Shoot. He grabs his last ball and concentrates a bit harder this time and safely shoots the ball into the net. He reaches into is wallet and puts down another bill. Even if he missed a few shots, he was going to get that penguin!]

More balls please!

[The booth runner is only glad to comply with their wishes, the sweet, sweet cash from their competition making a pretty penny for them. After getting his next round of basketballs, he shoots a fierce glare at Derek, the competitive energy almost crackling off of him. Without turning his gaze from the older man, he takes one of the balls and shoots it towards the basket... and it goes in. By some sort of freakish luck, it actually goes in.

... it was incredibly extra, and unnecessary, but he's trying to make a point-- the point being 'Don't mess with him, Derek Marlowe.']

[But Xiaolang makes it so easy to mess with him!

Derek's eyes brows raise as the ball goes in. Well... that's impressive...

Derek turns back to his hoop and starts aiming again. He makes two and then misses another one. His arms are getting tired. Wow, needed to exercise his arms more.]
